soil to PON transfer experiment + 2 week update✨ calathea jungle velvet🌱
I love a good experiment.
I recently purchased my second calathea ever and thought why not transfer from soil to pon right away.
Better yet, can I transfer from soil to pon without the intermediate water period?
That’s what were find out in this video.
On this video I transfer a calathea jungle velvet or calathea warscewiczii directly from soil to pon and provide a 2 week update on how the plant has adjusted to the transfer.

my 🌱Alocasia Collection🌱 common, rare + unicorn | 18 varieties🫶 22 total✨
Переглядів 2,7 тис.День тому
So excited to finally share my entire Alocasia collection. For the longest time I stayed away from any and all alocasias in fear I wouldn’t be able to grow them well (and spider mites), but once I got my first once it was a deep dive into many more. I’ve been successfully growing alocasias for 1.5 years now and the more I see and learn about the more I want. Over the last 1.5 years I’ve managed...

This is what I wish/should have done differently when I chopped repotted my monstera albo a few weeks ago: -I would have started with a newly hydrated plant -either chop first and acclimate the cutting to its own pot and then pot together later OR -repot and once acclimated to its new pot, chop In hindsight I did too much to the plant all at once causing it to go into major shock that led to ro...

    My perlite and water prop rotted after 3 days 😢 Idk what I did wrong. I was trying to get a stronger root system on my Alocasia Frydek starter and after about 3 days the 2 leaves started going floppy and some of the roots started to soften. I’m desperate to save it. I trimmed the soft roots and removed the water and I’m going to try and let it dry up a bit. I’m a plant newbie and this is my first Alocasia. Ugh, so frustrated lol.

    I've been transferring ("pon-verting") many plants to semi-hydro over the past 4 years. From the top of my head, I have 5 Hoya, 3 Calatheas, 2 Marantas, 1 Stromanthe, 5 Alocasia, 1 pot with 3 Ficus Tineke, several Syngonium, Monstera Peru and Monstera adansonii, 1 Homalomena, 1 variegated (Jet/Diamond) Peace Lily, 1 Raven ZZ, several pots of snake plants, a couple of Aglaonema, and a handful of ferns. They are loving life!

  • @carineds
    @carineds 8 днів тому

    Great video as usual...I am at this moment putting all of my Aglaonema's into pon, but i am doing it your other way... first into water, a week or two and then do the transfoer to pon. last week i bought about 20 Hoya's still small ones though they already have long tendrals (don't know the right word sorry. All the hoya's are all in soil. I am breaking my head over it how to transfer them to pon. They are all in that sticky soil like your calathea. Yesterday i removed the soil from one Hoya. It was very difficult to get it out of those tiny little roots. It wasn't possible to get it all out, i would damage the roots to much. Then i put it into stratum. My plan is to keep it in this substrate for a few weeks to see how it's going. Is this a good way? If you got small Hoya's in soil, how would you transfer them? Don't ever stop making those videos there just great for people like me who are still learning ;). Love from Belgium. Take care, stay save 🥰😍🤩

    Your collection is beautiful. I only have the polly. I had one plant that I had no clue what I was doing. It started to die so I decided to throw it out. I heard someone on UA-cam talk about corms, so I checked and found 11 of them. All but 1 continues to live. They began their journey in moss,then stratum, and I just planted them in pon. They struggled at first, but I moved them into my screened in porch and they all seem to be doing OK. A few got spider mites which I let go to long. New leaves and more corms. I can't seem to find anyone who wants my babies. Oh well, my porch looks great with them hanging out. Love your videos.

    I have a few Alocasias that I moved to PON, but will move back to a nice aroid mix with biochar, compost, and castings because I like to keep my plants in as natural of a media as I can. I love PON but I killed my first Thai Constellation with it and almost cried. The Constellation loved PON and the roots went crazy. Silly me didn't know moving it to an aroid mix with cocopeat would kill it because the roots are lighter when grown in PON. If you put a Thai Constellation in PON, fine, but leave it there. I purchased a second constellation and a day after watering, the roots and original soil from the vendor came off my plant and I freaked. Thankfully there was a growth point. I was scared the plant would rot since it did nothing in water. I moved it to PON and the magic began. Today I have a beautiful healthy plant with multiple large leaves. I have also grown my Albo node which was struggling and corms in Fluval! The stuff is magic for plants so long as you don't let it dry out. My one question is...Do Alocasia's give corms like when grown in soil? I also have set of those second pots you used and those are great. I just learned to remove plants from it once the roots start to grow through because I have ripped a lot of roots and I don't like to do that.
