It’s not about the write off - this is clearly a Harbor Freight promotional video. Given the size of their audience and the fact the whole episode was dedicated to HFT’s highest margin tool line (ICON), they likely got everything for free and they may have even been paid by HFT as well.
Crows foot is a great tool for someone like me who works on kitchen equipment. I use them on fryers, stoves and flat tops when I can't get a wrench on a flare fitting.
These are a tool that are not widely needed, but when you need one there is no other tool that will work. I use them to teach bolts that are hard to get to on an engine.
I typically don’t buy merch. Ever. So I guess not typically at all. However, the fact that you not only are selling made in USA shirts but are highlighting how important it is convinced me. Well done, boys!
I've been back to harbor freight and had them discount an item I purchased. They looked up my phone number to see that I purchased said item and still honored the new sale price. They'll work with you
If you bought something in the past 30-60 days and there’s a sale, they’ll refund you what you would’ve paid at the sale. So they can go back and get some cash back.
As a shop veteran who spent a decade wrenching on cars and now works on industrial machinery, this video is pretty spot on about must-have's. The only change I would make is the digital torque wrench. If you need a torque wrench, and you can afford it, always go with the digital ones. Saves a ton of hassle and eliminates the need for extra stuff to find angle readings. Hell, I have one in 1/2". 1/4" and 3/8" for different use cases. That 1/4" one comes in real handy if you are working on a diff and need the final torque to turn readings on a pinion.
Agreed. I'll add though, don't buy low end digital torque wrenches. If you look at a cheap digital torque wrench and go "Oh, neat, I can afford a digital torque wrench." you'd be better off buying a nice click wrench. Be prepared to drop $$$ if you want a digital one that won't just make you toss it across the shop. I've used some cheap ones and they've done nothing but get me confused; beeping randomly or getting stuck beeping or not beeping until I've gone past the torque or what have you. Poor calibration and shitty electronics will get it to an appealing price point, but will work worse than if you just use a mechanical one at a similar price point.
@@OnlyForThePriceOf999 agreed - better to have a good mechanical one vs. an inexpensive digital one. You won't worry about it until you are doing the last head bolt on a huge rebuild and think.... is this thing right? Full time automech here: If you are just starting out and need to work on your own things. Buy just the 1/4 no skip from 4mm-15mm and 1/2 no skip from 10mm to 27mm. The longest and shortest ratchet for both sizes and assorted adapters. Should be $500 all in and if bought on a discount day you should be able to afford the small shop cart with the money you have saved. Side note, medium deeps from almost all manufactures are just the shallow socket length of the next size up. IE the medium deep 1/4 is just a 3/8 shallow and the 3/8 medium is the 1/2 shallow.
I STRONGLY recommend their Pittsburgh vertical socket organizers. Game changer for finding the right socket quick. Also, don't forget to notify your insurance of your tool value (home or renters) and document that receipt. It's a big investment, you need to protect it.

I was 100% ready to buy an Icon toolbox this year, but then my uncle died in July. He was a restoration mechanic and a master fabricator, he had a full size snap-on toolbox full of snap-on tools, fabrication tools, welder, I have so many things that I don't even know how to use yet. Having these tools is life-changing, it opens up the doors to so much more creativity because I don't have to spend time searching for tools or dicking around using ghetto solutions to make things work.
People are gonna talk smack saying "This is just an ad, bla bla bla" but I've always been genuinely curious what mechanics keep in their toolboxes and how they go about choosing each part. Great video for someone who isn't a mechanic.
I been getting into fixing cars and I got my first socket tool and electric wrench recently, and I was overwhelmed with all the other tools that I needed for my garage appreciate you guys for coming up with this video
I'd say a thread restoring set it more useful for a normal mechanic than an tap and die set. Taps and dies are designed to cut new threads in virgin material, thread restorers are designed to fix and clean threading that already exists, along with thread files. Might only use those every few years but they save hours of extra labor when you need them
this video was made and posted at the most perfect time. i recently took a deep dive into cars, and tools are something i’ve been needing, so knowing what to get is very important so i don’t waste money
Advertising a product that gets rid of UA-cam ads in an ad that you’d still see if you had UA-cam premium is crazy, can’t believe we’ve reached that level on this platform.
Because you bought everything, you've got a serious oversight in your consumer value proposition in the needs and nices list. Icon has several kits that include the other pieces shown. So a savvy buyer who doesn't have BigTime dineros to throw at their box can skip a lot of these purchases by getting the kits.
Those big S-Jaw pliers are awesome for a ton of stuff. Even when working on cars. Good for holding suspension components. Doing alignments. Pulling hoses you'll be replacing. Pretty useful overall, especially when you need good holding strength or leverage on round objects. But works on all types of bolts too.
Lol remember when everyone wouldn’t shut up about how this channel was going to “take down donut”? That sure aged well. Maybe next week they’ll review the Amazon competitors!

I was privileged to have a CNC lathe at my previous job and I made Lexie knock off hammers for my father and father in law. I used an aluminum handle and a brass head to keep the weight forward and matched the thread and recess of the standard Lexie replaceable heads. The soft blow with the weight of the brass is so nice to have. I gripped them with tennis racket grips too so it feels like leather but is super easy to replace when worn. My father in law said he uses it in almost all of his projects and I see it laying out whenever we go over. It has soft on one side and hard on the other. Nice to have, but once you have one you won't go back. Machinist trade secret.
For anyone interested in the comparison to snap on - their guesses are close but I’d say it’s still a bit more. The snap on comparison to their box is 10k+ & the scanners are about 4k+ with a subscription as well. Ratchets are all about 100 or more and socket sets go for like 300+. Wrenches are like 400 starting if you get full sets. Pliers are around 75 and up. Shit adds up fast and that’s not including the special tools like bj press, pullers, or tap and die sets. You can use the HF app to compare list prices also
The icon 1/2" breaker is the best icon tool I have ever bought. And for those who work in cold climates. The Pittsburgh composite ratchets are a blessing at like $12.
I love youtube premium. I'll never live without it again! Yes, this is every Dad's dream, and it's one that I have almost made come true. I own just about everything Harbor Freight has to offer. Everytime they offer a 20% off coupon I have a hard time finding something to buy. I like Icon and Hercules and occassionally some Baur products. Overall, I have been really happy with HF Icon for hand tools and Hercules brushless for the power tools. Thanks for some great content, glad to see that you're filling your drawer with Icon! ;)
EVERY tool set MUST include crescent wrenches and vice grips! Also, a small rolling cart that allows you to bring your sockets and wrenches with you. Big boxes are great if you want to spend the afternoon walking back to it every time you need a different size socket/wrench. You'll thank me later.

Having these tools is life-changing, it opens up the doors to so much more creativity because I don't have to spend time searching for tools or dicking around using ghetto solutions to make things work.
The rock, paper, scissors game for who pays is the pinnacle of best friendship. 😂
Semi-deep.. that was my nickname in college. 🤔🤣
More like “is it in” was ur nickname

@@KruthikNandan I got 1 month trial, youtube is scamming people.
1:25 10000% a dads fantasy- creds I’m a dad
Yes!!!!!
Not a dad but yessss and I wish I was a dad. Nice
Correct mrboggs
Getting hornier the more i watch this... ugghhhh
Spending big money on tools you don't need could also be a dad's nightmare.
Split Beam > Everything.
Awesome video. You guys are really hitting all my interest.
3:23 the way Jobe is holding his lighter ☠️🍁
My car incorrectly identifies this channel as "The Notorious B.I.G." and shows his picture. I think it works.
What in the heck kind of Harbor Freight is that? Here they're all in strip malls.
Super crazy because here they are all big box stores
The newer stores are stand alone.
We’ve had a standalone store in my town in Tennessee
The Harbor Freight in my city has been it's own building since it's opening long before I was born. I was born in 93 for context.
In Oregon half are free standing, one is where a Costco used to be
People are gonna talk smack saying "This is just an ad, bla bla bla" but I've always been genuinely curious what mechanics keep in their toolboxes and how they go about choosing each part. Great video for someone who isn't a mechanic.
Plug for Toolbox tours, he’s got some cool videos @ToolBoxTour
I been getting into fixing cars and I got my first socket tool and electric wrench recently, and I was overwhelmed with all the other tools that I needed for my garage appreciate you guys for coming up with this video
I officially don't skip a second of your videos, I know that everything will be smooth and well written as well as well executed!
HF is a staple for me. Close by, decent price and a hell of a warranty. Let's go boys!!
Harbor freights missing out on a great opportunity here
The fart drawer is wild
I'd say a thread restoring set it more useful for a normal mechanic than an tap and die set. Taps and dies are designed to cut new threads in virgin material, thread restorers are designed to fix and clean threading that already exists, along with thread files. Might only use those every few years but they save hours of extra labor when you need them
These videos just bring so much joy back into our lives. Thank you!
This is a vid we soooo didn't ask for... but sooo needed.. ✌️😁
Yall should have just got Harbor Freight to Sponsor the vid, would have saved a trip to the store.
They have!
This is actually a really great video to teach people about the basics of automotive tools
this video was made and posted at the most perfect time. i recently took a deep dive into cars, and tools are something i’ve been needing, so knowing what to get is very important so i don’t waste money
First channel in a while that I make sure to watch every upload and like all the videos. Keep up the good work. Love these goofy guys.
I’m more of a Pittsburgh tool guy lol
I love any bigtime upload. I don’t care if it’s not about cars. They’re just fun personalities to watch. Thanks guys
Please buy every Lego car at the Lego store next! 🏎️💨
They don’t have THAT kind of money
They just spent 14grand on tools brother they have money/had money
one of the best episodes!! definitely informative for people starting to work on cars. Keep up the hard work guys!!!!!
S jaws are an absolute savior from heaven when it comes to seized tie rod ends on alignments. As a bmw tech they are very much appreciated.
The in video commercial ends at 4:08 to skip over it.
why would i want to skip it? it was hilarious!
This is now my favorite video to date. This is just freaking amazing. Thanks guys!!!
General Herculean effort for iconic mid level Pittsburg quality product placement.
Lol remember when everyone wouldn’t shut up about how this channel was going to “take down donut”? That sure aged well. Maybe next week they’ll review the Amazon competitors!
140k views in 7 hours. Donuts last video is 400k views in 4 days. I don’t think anyone expected this to be the end of donut, but these guys are doing fine bro.
Big Time episodes will just be one long ad in a few months…
Love the jazz music, 10/10!
Slams credit card on the desk at hobo freight, and says "give me the BIG TIME package"
I quite enjoy chill Jerry
I would absolutely love/hate being the counter guy lmao as an ex-parts guy a $14k sale is the DREAM
you guys are killing it with these video ideas.
I've never even been inside a Harbor Freight, but for some reason I'm compelled to watch every minute of this!
Icon and Harbor Freight are so underrated.
Happy to see a video like this, tool party on donut was one of my favorite series!
Very helpful! It was good to see someone actually talk about all the common tool variations and how much you actually use them.
Thanks for some great content, glad to see that you're filling your drawer with Icon! ;)
10:52 I was literally typing out this question in the comments as they answered it. Thank you both for recognizing the newbie questions.
This took me back to late-night infomercials The rotating platform was the thing that put me over the edge. Amazing please make more of these
EVERY tool set MUST include crescent wrenches and vice grips! Also, a small rolling cart that allows you to bring your sockets and wrenches with you. Big boxes are great if you want to spend the afternoon walking back to it every time you need a different size socket/wrench.
You'll thank me later.
The channel has officially hit its stride with this video. 🤙🏼 Also your best videos are where you’re both in them!
Now we need a hi-lo build video where the teams have similar parts budget, but one team can only use cheap generic tools and another gets the icon and specialty tools.
