Eh, huge difference when you try to scale it up and legitimize something like this. There's a reason stuff like hardware repair shops have all shut down. Biggest issue is experience, there's no easy way to learn all the little things and especially electronics without experience which doesn't come easy or cheap unless you're already in an industry where you can mess around. Not to mention parts aren't always easily accessible and getting harder to find, or tools are designed to be not easily repaired, along with technical/electrical details not being easily found a la cellphones/Apple as well. All in all, it's simply not profitable at a larger scale but certainly something you can do as a hobby.

As a assistant manager at home depot I can say 10000000% I am not surprised with the items returned completely salvaged and/or complete trash inside a different box. My favorite is a dewalt tool with a few rocks and newspaper stuffed inside.

@dynamiscr it's more of taking care of the customer compared to not being able to tell them no. Many of our vendors will give us credit on some items but not all. I've had store managers who are strict and some who will do anything for the customer.

I like finding tools that don't work Diagnosing the problem in side them and fixing them. Most of the time in returned tools that don't run the problem is in the trigger. It's a fun hobby.
Those resin/plastic shelves are great for air flow if you're storing boxes on concrete and have moisture issues. So even if they are crap as a shelving unit they can be useful.
They are common as dirt in trade shows for closets inside booths. Half the companies throw them out when the show closes because it costs too much to ship it back. Lots of Ikea Billy bookcases get thrown out because you can't disassemble them without breaking them. They have to pay 2 union carpenters to assemble them. (2x $140hr x 5 hours) you do the math

The paslode is great. Used their trim nailer for almost a decade now. Got their new model about 3 years ago... So handy for running trim without tripping over a hose or dragging a compressor around
I worked at a retail store that sold gladiator while in college and all the gladiator tool chests and cabinets come super dinged up and bent all the time. The metal is super thin and cheap. The gladiator reps would get pissed at us all the time saying we were messing them up by unloading them improperly and dropping them while stocking it. They never took the blame for their crappy quality products.
The best part of that whole thing was the fact that the mini truck said m12 on the back...that is just the chefs kiss to that beautiful tiny machine haha

That husky rack that's beat to hell around the 57 minute mark is pretty good when they don't look like that. I've had one in my living room with a 55 gallon fishtank for 3 years now. I took the lower shelf out to use it's supports at the top for the tank but it supports the 900 lb filled tank strong with no bowing.
The short time I worked in retail, saw the customer switch and return all the time. You know the purchase was made with cash to prevent tracking the thief (AKA customer). A customer purchased an OTC microwave, returning a few days later. When checking the return to complete the return to manufacture, as a defective product, we found their old, greasy, dirty microwave sealed in the box.

They return the Christmas lights Halloween. They return after Halloween ended. It’s not surprising at all. They returned stuff after they used it because they only needed it one time.

Paslodes are the lightest cordless framing nailer by far, and fun to shoot. Because of the gas cartridge they don’t like the winter very much and you have to keep buying them. Nothing beats pneumatic for a framing nailer in my opinion.
As someone who has a ton of experience in transport, this dude is not telling you real price of that load. Just ransport to get that load can easily be over 2 grand, depending from where it is coming from. On top of that there are a TON of hidden fees (sometimes) which brokers somehow "forget" to mention. Detention pay for unloading etc. Depends on a lot of factors. Considering he got handful of pallets, that's barely half full trailer. Again, depending where load comes from, add easily 3-4 grand on top of price of which he mentioned. On top of those expenses, im sure broker company selling those is probably taking a cut, something like salvage yard to a crashed car, hope you get the point.... (big companies always give to 3rd party to resell to avoid liability) Never saw this guy before, but this dude looks like one of guys from storage wars. The yuuuuup guy. His stuff is most valuable, and he never looses money. He maybe wont loose any, but that will take a ton of time to get rid of.
My dad has one of those DeWalt 4.5" saws, they're really nice for sheet goods, and can cut 2x lumber. They handle really well. The blades are more expensive than for a 7-1/4 though.
We used to do buys like that back in the late '80's. It was trailers full of returned Alltrade tools from Home Depot. Asan example there would be say three pallets of bench grinders that had a single wire in the wrong place. Simple fix. Sell at a swap meets for $20. We made a sh*t ton of cash. Great fun too.
Last year I bought a pallet of oil, anti freeze, cases of spray lube and in the middle of it all was 6 cases of Expired fish tank conditioner. I was so pissed but still made 600 bucks off it.

We used to do buys like that back in the late '80's. It was trailers full of returned Alltrade tools from Home Depot. Asan example there would be say three pallets of bench grinders that had a single wire in the wrong place. Simple fix. Sell at a swap meets for $20. We made a sh*t ton of cash. Great fun too.

Last year I bought a pallet of oil, anti freeze, cases of spray lube and in the middle of it all was 6 cases of Expired fish tank conditioner. I was so pissed but still made 600 bucks off it.
The most unbelievable thing about this is the Home Depot website working long enough to find all the prices.
