Wrong. Such decisions are made by managers who, by a happy coincidence, do not play games, do not care about art, etc. But they are concerned about legal issues and scandals. (And perhaps there are restrictions with age categories. The game will lose sales if, due to the heroine’s outfit, it falls under the 18+ rating in some countries)

One of the biggest advertising points for this game was that it wouldn't be censored, everyone all around the world would be playing the same game.
Day one patch immediately censors things.

Literally nerfed the main draw of the game. Most reviews already pointed out the weak writing and bouts of repetitive instances. One of the remaining draws was character design, and they said, "Nah. Keep your money."

Shift Up said the game would be uncensored. They shipped out a disc that was uncensored. Then all of a sudden a day 1 patch censored it. Sony absolutely pushed that.
Those 2 versions of that one piece suit are completely different tonally. They aren't both sexual. The one with the massive amount of cleavage and side boob is obviously the original intended costume and Sony forced them to change it to that Grandma wear with the patch.

I wouldn’t care if the post-patch outfits were the original ones promised. But we were led to believe that the original trailer outfits would be left untouched, as Shift Up “promised” that the game would be left uncensored. This of course, did not happen, and it’s right that people are mad about being lied to.

Well yes and no.
Gore is still as it was in the game - they only changed the blood splatter on Eve herself. This was done most likely to make her stand-out even more against the background and the enemies during a fight.
So this isn't even cencorship - enemies still bleed out like they originally did.
Now that they wasted money and resources to do those changes and sencor stuff, they should add toggle button in options to change in uncencored or cencored and then use that information how many players uses which one option and release that information.
i'll just wait for the game to be on pc and have those outfits modded back in lmao

The outfits did get censored. There's no debate. My disc version installed 1.0 while disconnected from the net, and has the uncensored versions shown in trailers. I'm not so bothered about less skin shown, as long as it was what the devs intended, but the precedent being set lately, with post release censorship is scary. It's also been shown that gore has been toned down, and blood splatter on eve was greatly reduced. This precedent is what I'm really bothered by. As an adult, I don't need protecting from busy body mommy sony. And when you can retroactively censor a game based on whatever the current line your publisher decides is too far, it just feels dirty. Also the amount of sexual repression in 2024 baffles the mind, while no amount of murder and violence is too far.
Not to mention the devs tweeted like a week ago that the game was releasing uncensored in all regions, and making a big point about it, and yet the day one patch literally censors multiple aspects. I think the dismissive comments of people saying this is just one more dumb ragebait issue really lack any sort of ability to think bigger picture, long term, and probably don't understand the concept of precedent, or have any knowledge of the history of censorship in media going back hundreds of years. If we don't push back every time they start censoring relatively mundane things like digital cleavage and red pixels made to look like blood, then the line gets pushed a little further. Who knows what will be over the line tomorrow, maybe political humor, maybe religious tones, maybe any sort of sexual diversity. Being ok with censorship because it happens to not tread on your personal morals, or what you deem important historically doesn't go well, and people who are offended by things and want to control how we are allowed to express ourselves in art or life will often find their way into positions to do so. Don't be the frog.

It's only the last few years that everyone's devices are assumed to be always online, and so your single player game, even physical copy is, no longer is safe from the ever changing whims of the offended. Dismissing censorship because it's "no big deal" or "has been happening forever" is being the frog. Getting pissed and speaking out is not. Simply existing in a world of censorship does not make me a frog. If I didn't voice my objections you'd have a point.
I'd love for people to be able to speak more honestly about these things without fear of burning bridges. It's interesting how often in these cases a more revealing version "they never wanted" exists as if it just wasn't possible to cover them in the first iteration and they're ashamed it exists at all. Once or twice maybe but it happens way too often.

The game goes golden (gets finished) a while before it ships (weeks or more), so the fact the physical disk shipped with the uncensored version of the outfits simply means it IS the intended version, the censored one was a last minute change most likely with some Sony involvement.

However changing things about the game after they are sold can be very frustrating. Lets be real. This game is rated M, and was advertised with a very sexualized way of the character. The fact they are basically going back and censor it is a very bad move. Just to be clear, i dont own or play this game, as im not even a consol player.
I remember SHIFT UP having a similar problem in Nikke back then.
A character known as Modernia is about to be released but when players saw her updated artwork from the leaks, the community didn't like it and the devs had to scrap that new artwork.

This is dillematic. Realistically speaking, Shift Up is still a small company compared to the giant that is SONY. If Shift Up won't comply to SONY's demand, it will definitely get sued by SONY to the court and lost millions. If gamers refuse to purchase Stellar Blade, the wokes will rejoice since it proves to them that having an attractive female MC means that a game is unliked by many. But if Stellar Blade becomes a hit, the wokes will still rejoice since it means that a censored game can still be liked by many. Neverthless, I still think that supporting Shift Up is still the best course of action so that it can get bigger and no longer dependent on SONY that has been infiltrated by the wokes.

But Shift Up is not a mega corporations like SONY, imagine all the lawsuits that SONY can take towards Shift Up if it decides not to bend its knee to SONY. For Shift Up, it is most likely a matter of survival. If Shift Up is unwilling to make compromises, Stellar Blade may get cancelled instead.

Nikke, Shift Ups other game has suffered from the same issue believe it or not. Shortly after release they announced some christmas themed characters of which pictures had previously been leaked and they were significantly less revealing in the official version than what could be found in the game files. This lead to them severely cracking down on the leaking scene to the point where people were facing legal threats by them because they didn't want more attention on the censorship problem. The current characters are much less suggestive than what you might think, especially considering what they used as promotional material when the game was still in beta. All of this is to say that it isn't the first time shift up has used severly more revealing characters during the promotion phase of the game only to censor stuff after release.
