I remember when everyone was hunting for an ex Police interceptor VL. Stories of legend on what you could with with the RB30E engines. Sammut brothers managed to get some amazing numbers out of the RB engines.
Awesome work mate. Love seeing anyone restore massive projects such as a classic VL. I recently finished up restoring my dads VR Acclaim. By no means it was terrible condition but it has been a 3 yr commitment to this project of scouring the internet, wreckers and stores for certain parts and totally agree with your comment of don't start letting that commitment die and make that promise become a hollow bunch of words All the best \m/
Thanks mate for the nice comment! I Bet the VR r is amazing now , keen to see it ! Inbox me a photo on insta if you can be bothered , love seeing what people do
Stunning VL mate, my old man had a venetian red Executive Turbo wagon back in ''87-88, one of the strongest memories of being a kid was us doing a family trip from Sydney to Brisbane for Expo '88. That little reminder and the nostalgia it gave me totally made my day, so thanks for that.
Job well done. This is quite a rare car. An auto in an SL was special order. Most people who wanted auto would've just bought and executive. What set the SL apart from the Executive was mainly the transmission and the power steering. I think in the Series II, which this is (black door handles and larger HOLDEN badge on boot) the AC was standard in the Executive. I bought a VL SL in April 1986. Ordered it in February when it was released but the first cars built were mostly Executives, Berlinas and the odd Calais for the rental car industry. Cost me about $14,500 drive away.
Ah ! Wow great insight , this one has power steering / AC and auto ! It was my understanding ( I could be wrong) that the SL was the earlier model then exec was released later in the years
@@georgeauto On the contrary. I nearly bought a VK that was on the showroom floor. That showroom floor shared space with a just-released VL Berlina. That was February 1986. I eventually ordered a white gold SL sedan expecting to take delivery quite soon. That's when the saleman told me about how both Holden and Ford pumped out cars for the rental car market first. The first SL I saw was mine, which was in April. I can't imagine why somebody would order an SL with ps/ac/auto which matched the Executive specs (that was the only difference between the two). The following year they changed door handles from chrome to black and made the HOLDEN boot badge bigger. That was pretty much their "Series II update".
Really good video mate. Inspiring, positive and really well done. So good to see an '87 VL restored to it's former glory - not turned into yet another drift or drag car with oversized rubber. You've inspired me to do something with the VY Berlina wagon sitting in the driveway, so nice one! Congrats on the twins too "-)
Thanks a lot! And glad you enjoyed it , yes I think you can’t go wrong bringing it back to original style , then it’s up to the winner to do as they please with it
Much more than the build itself, I so admire you George for your commitment to getting the job done. I've watched a few of your vids and to me you'ee a straight up, no bullshit, friendly and very helpful bloke that has indeed got skills as a motivational coach. Not just when it come to vehicle builds either, although I can see that you are passionate about this. Your son is a very lucky young man to have a father like you. These commitment skills relate to life as much as building and restoring cars. You are an amazing human George!
@@georgeauto Looking at a VL Berlina turbo that a mate owns at the moment, happy to sell to eventually needs some love care but definitely a path I would like to take and get it back on the roads after a decade of covers.

@georgeauto thank you no I do not as I have zero experience as a panel beater, spray painter or mechanic and it would cost far to much to get it outsourced and most places that do it here I perth are very reluctant to take on a build of such a big scale.
@georgeauto I used to dabble in photography a lit but due to financial reasons sold my set up with much regret as to replace it all now would be well in excess of 12k I have a cannon EOS5D mk3 beautiful camera with all accessories tripods filters spare lens etc hoping to get back into it I loved it I photographed cars mainly and bikes I loved photographing rat rods and rat cars more to detail I love showcasing the small things people over look thanks again..

Thanks so much for this comment , it’s motivating me to do more , I love motivational speaks I have a whole other channel dedicated to it , I listen to a lot too that’s where it comes from
Absolutely beautiful restoration. Thank you George for sharing your journey and the words you have spoken in the video have true meaning and can see are genuine. I’ve entered the competition and hopefully I can win this car as my little boys would love it. They are 7 and 9 years old and they love VL’s like their dad. Once again beautiful restoration well done and credit to yourself and your son. 😁
G'day George, I'm sorry I haven't been around for ages. I have been absolutely flat out busy on my UA-cam channel lately, Bill's Channel 1987. I do have quite a few AU Ford contents on there, too. Since from August 5th, 2024, I have then purchased myself a new car . It is a 1998 Toyota Corolla Conquest hatchback twin cam inline 4, 5-speed manual. The colour of my car is also Metallic Purple. Cheers George all the best to both you and your son, plus your family. From William. Mount Gambier South Australia.
Awesome job GG. It was clearly a big job, well done on sticking with it, I’ve seen so many builds or restorations stall when it starts getting tricky. Nobody asks how many hours work went into it, they only ask who did it, and you can be proud to put your name to it. Nice work

As well as the satisfaction of finishing something thats HARD. I've been struggling with a project this past year and its on a turn around at the moment. So i can see the finish line.
