    *Fun fact - The reason why the Odometers break and stop working is because people push the reset button whilst the car is driving at any speed. It just crunches all the cogs and they stop working. If you don't want to break your Odometer, always push the trip reset button whilst the car is stopped and parked. You will never break an Odometer if you do this while the car is stationary. This is 💯% true. Trust me I know.*

    It's a good old car, we had a 1990 white executive sedan in our family from 1992 to 2007. Ours was an ex government special, and was reliable as a nail, only problems we ever had was the water pump not long after we bought it, and the coil packs when it was about 14-15 years old.
    Okay it had some weak points, the paint wasn't great, the interior was a bit cheap and tatty, the rear could be a bit scary in the wet (a feature or a bug?!) and the panel under the steering wheel has a tendency to fall on your legs while driving.
    The car also drink like a fish, supposedly you can get 12-14 liters per 100ks, reality is 17-18 liters.

    • @victorpeirce4753

      *Yes. 💯% true, but it isn't noticeable. The Fuel injected 5.O V8 (4.9 to be exact) have a lot more power and torque than the stock 3O8 Carby V8 5.O litre. The Carby VL 5.O V8 has only 122kw out of the factory. The low output coincides with the VL Commodore having to use Unleaded petrol and had to use Catalytic converters, so Holden had to rush things to get it to comply in time for release.💯%*

    In nz the arse has dropped out of vn/vp again they were high prices after covid but they are basically being given away or maybe 5-7k for an SS. There are people trying to sell tidy restored ones for 20-30k but they never sell some have been advertised for 18 months. I had a vp ss stroked and worked (5.4l offset crank grind) 230kw ATW. That was a low rpm torque monster and in a 1400kg vehicle it embarrassed most of the LS1 and XR8 around.
    Love for the 304

    I had a white series II V6 VN Executive and I sold it to my dad a few years ago, it's been collecting dust in his shed ever since. Although it was a little rough around the edges aesthetically, it was mechanically quite sound. I got sick of the rattles in the front end so I had Nolathane bushes installed. Same problem with the odometer so I installed VP gauges as that was all I could get at the time. The driver's seat mounts cracked so a more solid VP seat fixed that problem too. I also had the tail lights filling up with water but that's an easy fix if you know the right place to drill some discreet drain holes. I replaced the tail light looms so that both the upper and lower brake light globes would light up. I also put 15 inch VR/S rims on it. I was actually given an interior rear louvre for it. They do rattle a bit but nothing the volume knob wouldn't fix! When I sold it, the only mechanical issue that I was aware of was the clutch in the A/C compressor was slipping. Overall it was good car to drive and an easy car to do an oil change on.

    imo you shouldnt buy one unless you got money to burn you missed the boat when the really nice examples of these cars were still under 10 grand. so many got quick paintjobs when the prices went up and there value trippled there still average cars under all that new gloss. and many out there are filpper cars. i own 2 from this era and although i think they the perfect daily driver there not amazing by todays standards. then again if you want a simple relatively quick reliable car you can do worse for the same $

      @@AusOpenBodybuilding Awesome mate. I've had 4.11 diff gears in a VY SS with the 4L6OE that was shift kitted and heavy duty clutch packs and it was so much fun. Plant the right foot off the line and it would lay 2 black lines all through First and Second gear.1st gear was so so short. It would do a burnout on the spot in 3rd gear smashing limiter. Nothing would get close to me taking off from a set of traffic lights. I mean NOTHING. People would say it's way too short, but I say it was so much fun. Even with 4.11 diff gears and 4L6OE at 11Okmh it would sit at about 27OO-28OO rpm which I didn't care about. It was such a fun daily. The 4.11s sure do wake them up big time. 💯💪💪👍👍

  • @noelgibson5956
    @noelgibson5956 4 місяці тому +5

    I recall the first time I ever heard one drive past. It was noisy and very harsh.
    When the VS came out, Holden engineers had finally quietened them down.
    The V8's on the other hand, were too quiet in standard form, much quieter than previous Holden V8's. You think they'd do it the other way around where the V8 makes a loud, sweet noise whilst the sixes, which nobody is interested in listening to, would be made more silent.
    To the VN's credit, it brought back some loved models; the ute, the Statesman and optional six seater capacity. It gave Holden another 20 or 30 years by returning them to profit and No.l sales status. For that, I'm grateful.
    I was never much of an actual VN fan, much preferring it's spinoffs; the VR and VS utes and V8 VS Caprices which looked fabulous. But the earlier VQ Statesman was a styling shocker! 🤦
    I just hope all remaining Aussie built cars, regardless of make, are loved and preserved for future generations to see, admire and possibly own.

    the most popular is the VK, VR, VS, VX, VY/Z, VE, VF they are the ones that are worth the most, every SS are the ones you want to buy for investment VE/VF SS/SSV will be the models that will be worth the most buy low KS, and not messed with vz 6lt are rare and are the most value in that range and HDT's (genuine) are very collectable worth more than HSV simply because the HSV's are not very rare

      @LSturboguy Місяць тому

      @@commodoreman1 I think you misinterpret my comment, I'm coming from an investment side of it and the VL never really had a sports model, the VL that is sort after is the genuine VL Calais with the factory Turbo 6 not a VL some dude put a turbo on it doesn't count as genuine 1s numbers matching are very rare, VL was a great car I owned a 5lt wagon I purchased new but they’re not as sort after as a VK 5LT, VN and VP were the ugly duckling soon as the VR came out. no one wanted them and that is still true today, put a VN up for sale and a VR/VS up for sale you have 3 times as many calls for the latter one, let’s not get confused with which are the MOST popular with the lesser models, I coming from the investment side you need the top end of each of the models i.e. 5lt VK, the SS in the earlier commodores
      it’s like the VH Calais 5lt was an excellent car popular but not as popular as the 5lt VK, and take the VT it was a great car but the VX was a better car, I'm not saying the VN and VL aren’t popular in their own right their just don't make the MOST popular series which are going to appreciate over time, don't get mixed up with some clown of Facebook asking stupid money for a base model, he to thinks it’s worth what an SS is worth. The thing is unless some total moron comes along it with still be for sale for years, I'll quote my son when we got him a VP for his 1st car I repainted it for him but he said its not cool can he sell it to buy a VS S model true story, the same is True for The HSV they dont pull the money a HDT does because of the Brock factor he been dead almost 20 years but he's not forgotten
