    Even though I’m a Ford guy still like watching any Aussie car having a helping hand back from the dead is always satisfying, you never stop learning and I’m 64 with a panel beater brother and I can still learn things from you man, keep up the good work, so satisfying to see rust just go away and there you have it, a new panel, magic.

    Good vid dude, I saw a guy on YT recently pull those stainless gutter trims off with an alloy bottle opener from rear to front, looked easy and no damage, never tried it myself because i don't need to, just thought worth mentioning if anyone needed. Blessed are the HQ's may they live forever.

    Love the channel - always entertaining. When I was a teenager growing up in the 80's, HQ's were plentiful. Nowadays they are so hard to find, and have become a very rare beast indeed. Keep up the great work, and best of luck ! 😀

    Yes, I am a Holden & the HQ is my favourite model Kingswood, my dad drove a metallic lime green 1972 model HQ Kingswood wagon home after he bought it in 1980 when I was 2 1/2 years old & too short to see above the dash, my mother drove his old LC Torana home with my 1 year old brother in it which car my dad sold.
    It shone & glistened in the sun because it was painted in a metallic lime green colour, the first owners wife apparently had an accident in it which resulted in a tree branch poking through the front grille & the radiator so they got it fixed up.& Sold it to my dad.
    It ended up with less rust than the HQ in the video & my dad was cutting rust out of it & welding plates into it in the 1980's , he ended up gas axing it in the late 1990's after selling the engine, seats,ROH jellybean mag rims, etc out of it.
    I would say that my 1986 model Holden VL Commodore which is fitted with a twin cam 3 litre Nissan RB30 engine has about as much rust as that HQ sedan in the video does
    I do plan on restoring it & yes, you can do that if.you put your mind to it & it's a car that you love ❤, I am tossing up on replacing the doors or repairing the rust in them.
    I do plan to tow it to where I am going to move to next year, there will be much more room to work on it there.
    I currently drive a 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore & I began cutting rust out near the right hand side tail light along the pinch weld for the boot seal which was rusted out which was in 2026.
    There was a rust hole just beneath the right hand side tail light which I cut out then I welded a metal plate over, that rust repair is still holding up strong.
    There was a 1/2: inch long rust hole underneath the passenger side trim cover which covers the spot welds between the rear 1/4 panel & top section, I.just die ground the rust hole out, peened it in slightly then I roughed up the surrounding area with the die grinder.
    I etch primed that spot then I filled it in with fibreglass reinforced body filler, I sanded it back then applied normal body filler to smooth out the low spots then I primed and painted the repaired surface !

    Just curious but why is this so rusty? I live California USA and thought Australia had a climate similar to ours. Our cars are mostly rust free. I have a 1978 GMC pickup and not a speck of rust on it.

    • @TheRestoShed
      @TheRestoShed  Місяць тому

      Much like the US, it differs from state to state here in Australia. Our inland cars usually hold up a lot better than the coastal areas.

    I wouldn't, but good luck. I remember when HQs came out. I couldn't believe that Holden had reverted to a part chassis like a 1964 Pontiac. HQs weren't good to drive. Horrible geometry. But they did look good compared to what else was around at the time.

    Do you know the full history of this car? This car looks exactly the same as the HQ they had at Bathurst TAFE in 1993. Same Colour, same interior and same mismatched Drivers white door! If this is the same car it's been pulled apart and put back together by students half a million times...

    • @TheRestoShed
