    DS3 has been proven to be peak.
    The overhyped ER DLC was DS3 REPAINTED!
    Radahn and Miquella are the Twin Princess. Renalla is Sullivan, and I sure as hell noticed a few more references.
    NAMELESS KING IS THE POSTER CHILD OF THE NEW ELDEN RING GAME!

    BB was my first, but I bounced off it after finally killing Father Gascoin. Ironically if I had kept pushing forward I think I would have hit my stride. But the difficulty of the games had been talked up so much that I thought Central Yarnham was just a 'tutorial level' and the REAL difficulty was going to ramp up after so I ended up not going into Cathedral Ward.
    Then I eventually gave the series another go with Elden Ring. Got frustrated at Margit and quit. But something pulled me back, and when I gave the game a second go things started to click. So I ended up beating ER and going back to finish BB. And then moved on to the DS trilogy. PLaying 1 remaster, 2 Scholar version and DS 3.
    BB and DS 3 are my favorites in the series by a wide margin. If I were to look at them just as games, I think that DS 3 would edge out. But I love the setting/atmosphere and trick weapons of BB, and BB plays explicitly into the highly aggressive and dodge heavy playstyle I prefer in all souls games. So they end up about tied for me.

    • @KIPHLAVOR
      @KIPHLAVOR  10 днів тому

      The setting/atmosphere in BB are some of the strongest in gaming overall. That's what I love the most about the game. DS3 surpasses BB for me because of the bosses, as I believe DS3 has the best bosses in the series. Old Hunters really does BB justice in that department.

    • @MalzraAirwynn
      @MalzraAirwynn 10 днів тому

      @@KIPHLAVOR Yeah, while I think BB was a step up in bosses, DS 3 took it further. Looking at them purely in terms of gameplay like that DS 3 pulls ahead and I never minded it being linear. It probalby helps I only got into the series a couple years ago so I have no nostalgia for DS 1 or 2 so I didin't really mind DS 3 being much more linear. Linear isn't inherently bad afterall and I honestly like DS3's linear and shorter nature over ER's massive open world but that's another conversation entirely.

      @@MalzraAirwynn I personally value the world design/story/lore over bosses because you spend about 90% of these games not fighting bosses and only get to face them once per playthrough. But, it’s hard to overlook how good all the bosses are in ds3, basically every boss from the abyss watchers on is amazing except for a handful like the demon king, wolnhir and ociros. For that reason I like Bloodborne a little more because it feels extremely unique and I find the lore to be more interesting than the dark souls trilogy. As far as level design Bloodborne is almost as linear as dark souls is when it comes to progression, the levels just have a bit more connecting paths, it’s almost like a perfect middle ground between ds1 and ds3.
      I’m in the comment section as I’m watching the video so he might mention this but a huge thing about ds3 that a lot of reviews/critiques don’t mention is how much better the multiplayer systems are compared to every other souls game they’ve ever made. Each covenant is significant to the lore, offers unique rewards, and has unique multiplayer interactions from both a cooperator and invader standpoint. I love playing through these games without engaging with the multiplayer especially now that the older games have very little multiplayer activity, but I played ds3 for 6 whole years and it’s the multiplayer that allowed me to do that for so long without getting bored. I know a lot of people don’t care for the multiplayer but I do, and that combined with the incredible bosses and the well thought out level/world design is the reason ds3 will always be my favorite souls game unless they make a better game in the future. Unfortunately with the success of elden ring I don’t think they will.
      I hope they take a step back with their next souls game and go back to this focused world/level design and don’t double down on the open world.I also hope they don’t continue to make these bosses and weapons and spells more anime and over the top. It’s not like dark souls doesn’t have its insanely epic and over the top bosses and weapons, but the games still feel much more grounded than Elden Ring. It would be awesome for them to make a game even more grounded than dark souls imo.

    • @MalzraAirwynn
      @MalzraAirwynn 10 днів тому

      @@DreyfusLagoon That's fair. We all have our preferences. For me, while the interconnectedness of DS 1 is a neat novelty, it doesn't make or break the game though. For me, DS3 has good individual levels even if their order is (mostly) linear so it's not JUST the boss fights, but they are a big draw of the game. The moment to moment combat and movement also just feels best to me in DS 3 in general compared to the earlier games.
      Bloodborne is also very linear yes. In fact, when it comes to the strictly required levels and bosses, it's even more linear than DS 3. Kill Gascoin, kill Amelia, kill Shadows, kill Rom, kill One Reborn, kill Micolash, kill Wet Nurse, roll credits. I think though, aside from the being more connected with most levels linking to Cathedral Ward, is that BB has a lot of OPTIONAL content. In DS 3 base game you have what....consumed king's garden, untended graves, demon ruins and archdragon peak as optional levels? In BB you have Old Yarnham, Hemwick Lane, Pre-Blood Moon Yarhar Gul which is so different from the required version I basically consider it a different level, Upper Cathedral Ward, and the Nightmare Frontier. More areas but also spread more throughout the game, as untended graves and archdragon peak are both locked behind the king's garden which is at the end of the game unless you sequence break with early Dancer. So while they are both very linear games I think that's a bit part of why BB doesn't 'feel' as linear even though its core story objectives are even more linear than DS 3, where you can do Lothrric castle early, can do abyss watchers or Deacons in either order, and can do Yorhm or Albrich in any order.
      For me, while I'll dabble in multiplayer on occasion it's not a big draw or focus.
      I do agree that ER went a bit overboard. DS 3 pushesd things to a peak for me in boss fights. But a lot of the ER bosses kind of go overboard to the point where, while some of them are great, a lot of them are a bit over the top for me like Maliketh. Also the vast open world leads to bloat. Here's another dragon but his breath is BLUE! This drgaon has rot! Here's a guardian watch dog. Now two. Now one with four imps etc. Here's astel or a fallen star beast but in a much smaller mini dungeon boss room etc.
      Ultimately I hope that they go back to a world around the size of the Dark Souls Trilogy or BB for the next game. But with the massive success that Elden Ring was, basically being the Breath of the Wild of Fromsoft, I'm not expecting them to go back to their roots in world design.

    On the "it's just gray" people really don't realize how ds1 was a lot of browns and sickly greens with sharp yet muddy textures. Ds3 and ds1 are not different games in that regard. I think it's disrespectful to both to just say it's "colorless" they both get their atmospheres across beautifully. My favorite vista in ds1 brown castle, brown swamp, brown sewer, brown and dark catacomb, green forest getting creative there. I can easily dismiss what the art direction in ds1 accomplished with ease. At least ds3 had the decency to make its swamp purple and make it the worst level in the series (love you ds3)
    Honestly I disagree on the combat. I find myself using R2 as much as I did in 1 which isn't much but I do use it. I have no issue finding uses for it whatsoever.
    Most of my defense is just ds1 isn't as guiltless for a lot of "sins" ds3 commits.

      DS1 you got Undead Parish, Lost Izalith, New Londo, Anor Londo, Dukes Archives, Darkroot Garden, Ash Lake, Kiln of the First Flame, Northern Undead Asylum, Sens Fortress, Painted World. It's funny that when you bring up the brown locations in DS1, there are only a few of them that account for much less than half of the game. Everything else, like the things I mentioned, are very colorful and unique looking. Dismissing the art direction of DS1 isn't as easy as you thought.
      DS3 you got a swamp that is, contrary to what you mentioned, barely purple, you got demon ruins which have a bit of bright lava (of course surrounded by gray), you got the rooftops of lothric castle whose sky is orange, and you got Irithyll whose sky is blue. Everything else is gray or dark in that game, it's not even funny. You can like DS3 and it's locations, but you can't make stuff up and pretend like 90% of people who come to the conclusion that DS3 is almost completely a gray game are all wrong for using their eyes. DS1 has some browns and grays, but its colorful locations are plentiful and there is a reason why out of every single Fromsoft soulslike game, only DS3 has the record of being a game with barely any color- because it has earned it. And I feel like ignoring this fact is disrespectful to what DS3 and DS1 wanted to portray.

    I don’t think ds3 is a love letter to the fans or anything I just think it’s the natural way the series needed to end. It wouldn’t make sense for the game not to take place in a kingdom built on top of lordan and it only reinforces the main focal point of the story which is the cycle of fire and the decay to which it brings. Seeing how different most areas are to their original version in ds1 shows just how long the cycles have been going on for and why they need to end

    • @KIPHLAVOR
      @KIPHLAVOR  10 днів тому

      I totally agree that this was just the natural progression, however the cycle repeating itself is also kind of a love letter to linking the fire one last time

      @ I feel like the story of the trilogy as well as the decaying world should push the player to not link the flame so for me personally I think letting the flame die out is the cannon ending to ds3. Obviously the cannon ending is whatever the player chooses for themselves.

    To be honest I kind of have a soft spot for the gimmick bosses. They aren't my favorites, but I do appreciate them breaking things up and adding a bit of variety. And while they aren't my favorites, I don't actively dislike any of them.
    Same with the levels. The only level I kind of dislike is the faron swamp. As unlike the other swamp areas in the game I feel it's a bit too big to fully explore while slowing your movement so much. I don't even care about the actual poison part. I just wish it was less of a litteral slog to traverse and fully explore. Where as the king's garden, the swamp in ringed city etc all seem much smaller and not as annoying to fully explore and loot. But even then I don't hate the area it's just a bit annoying.

      Lorian Horizontal Swing
