Thank you for the tips! I never new I could spread with gamsol - I can't wait to try it!
Stephanie Oplinger Yes, you can do that with oil, like linseed, or even baby oil, too, but takes forever to dry
So fantastic Lucy! Loved watching this! I have the oil pastels sitting in my amazon wishlist just have to decide which set to get first!
the 48 colors one is best if you hvae the budget
Thank you Lucy! That’s good to know! 👍🏻
If you make some oil pastel artwork, please share?
i really love your artworks💖You’re so amazing!🤩
julliamazing 123 thank you so much 😊
very beautiful!
I’m doing a oil pastel drawing on 16x20 canvas because my rabbit is very sick and old and we might lose him soon but I do not have enough of the oil pastels I need because there not jumbo sized and the pastels like the 48 color set are small . I also want to varnish it. Any tips how with that size pastels and canvas? 3:56
When you are using Sennelier oil pastels, do you pay any attention to whether the colors you're using are transparent, transparent/opaque, or opaque, when applying them?
Also, because of the softness of the Sennelier, do you pointedly try to limit layers, or does this not factor in?
Thanks!
Hi Amanda. I don't pay too much attention to opaque or transparent with oil pastels. Most of them are quite opaque, only a few in the purples I find are quite transparent, so it's not a big factor I consider. I also don't try to limit layers. The sennelier oil pastels are very pigmented and texture quite buttery, so naturally I don't need many layers.
Just found your channel on oil pastel. What liquid did you use to blend the hair. Thank you for sharing.
gamsol
1:17s Is the black hair brush dipped in water or oil blend?
dipped in Gamsol, a solvent for oil paint
Hi Lucy
Loved your painting style and art work
I am a beginner in oil pastel and found your video very informative. I have been trying and making few oil pastel drawings from tutorial since a month. I want to learn from you how u have done this piece step by step completely. So if i become a patron will i have access to this paintings complete tutorial? As the present one is very fast and incomplete
Looking forward to your reply
Hi Shweta, thank you very much! I have shifted my Patreon to give patrons physical prints of my work and digital wallpaper since this video was made. However, I do have a very detailed step by step demo of two oil pastel works. Here is the link if you want to check it out. They are different paintings, but the techniques are similar lucymorningstar.art/kuanyin
