This has been a really informative *and relaxing* video! I've been into impressionism for quite some time now and I would really appreciate a video dedicated to how you use colours! I still can't quite get the concept of using colours such as purples and greens and blues in depicting humans (considering the fact that I'm only a beginner) and I would want to know how to do them just like you do :D you're really an inspiration
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video☺️ took me a while to learn about tools for oil pastels, so I'm happy that I could finally share my knowledge to everyone❤️ I'm planning on making another video like this again, I'll make sure to include some techniques for colouring in a future video☺️👍
I got a set of oil pastels for Christmas a few years back, and I tried using them and got frustrated. Today, I decided to use them again, and this video was super helpful and I think my art turned out well!
I have started doing oil pastels thanks to you ! It's been a journey of trial and error and your tips have been so useful. Without you i would never have thought of using supplies like linseed oils (which make drawing so much easier and relaxing). I have even discovered an art store that makes traditional handmade oil pastels where I study (l'artisan pastellier). I am so thankfull for what you do ! I hope you know you have inspired many to start oil pastels and get back to drawing ! Thank you
Hi, I'm willing to start drawing with oil pastels, and I'm having a hard time finding any review or thoughts on oil pastels by L'artisan pastellier, which I am really interested in. Have you ever tried this brand? If so, what do you think of it? :)
Your art, to put in words, makes me feel things i rarely feel. It awakens a warm feeling in my heart and makes me forget about all the things and i can just sit back and enjoy your videos. You make wonders with colours on the paper. Your art makes my eyes twinkle and helps me dream more. I will forever support you❤️
I don't use oil pastels, but it's really nice to see your work progress, i love to see you painting, your videos and paintings are always well done and i really appreciate it❤
oil pastels are my favorite type of materials, I really enjoy watching your videos, they're so relaxing and inspiring. I've moved into France this year and I'm so exited to buy senneliers pastels
I have used acrylic paint for years and years. I have wanted to try oil painting but it always seems so intimidating. I completely forgot about oil pastels! This already seems so much more accessible to the space and budget I have. Not to mention, your art, as well as the effort but into making a video of it, is simply inspiring ❤ Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful work. You have Picasso to thank for the Sennelier oil sticks. He asked the paint company to create them so he wouldn't have to pull out all his supplies. 🎉
I bought a new pallete of oil pastels last night and im so excited to learn from you how to use it, i used to watch your videos since i was 13 last year, i really love your content😍😘💗💗
While searching for more information about oil pastels I found your channel. You have inspired me so much and now I am slowly learning how to work and experiment with oil pastels. At frist I thought this material was only for kids but wow it's fascinating so thank you so muchhh. I love your artwork ❤
I just started oil pastels because an important friend of mine bought me a whole set and had me experiment with them for a few weeks. I became intrigued with it. I have been a watercolorist for years but it is always nice to work in other mediums, and discover. Thank you for everything you have revealed to us so that we can figure things out a little faster
Absolutely beautiful work! I’ve been struggling to find the art medium most suited to me and I think oil pastels may be what I’ve been searching for. Thank you for posting such wonderful information and I look forward to more of your videos.
This video was so beautiful, I could cry! I’m fortunate to be taking a trip to Paris soon and after learning the history of oil pastels I knew I had to go to the Sennelier shop and try some out for myself. Your video popped up on my feed at the perfect time!
Hi, thank you for this lovely video. I am learning, late in life, to paint and decided to try pastels. I didn't realize there are more than one type and each time I watch a video or tutorial I learn something new. Once again thank you.
I stumbled on your video because I am a hobbyist trying to figure out if I should try oil pastels as a medium and I am absolutely blown away by your work. Wow wow wow!!! Thank you for sharing your process and results, your paintings are incredible. ❤
Thanks for the advice. I’m ordering the Skin Safer. I was under the impression that oil pastels were not that bad but I would rather be safe. I do wear gloves when oil painting. Using oil pastels were easier while recovering from a broken wrist this past winter. Peace ☮️

I haven’t seen a video on UA-cam for a while, then I was looking for a tutorial on oil pastels as I always use them wrong. This is not only the most useful but the prettiest!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for such a beautiful and calming video. It’s so hard to find good information about oil pastel painting and I really enjoyed watching this. They are one of my favourite mediums to use despite seeming not all that popular. It’s so lovely to see a channel that shows the true beauty of what can be achieved with them
I'm in love with the setup of the materials in the in initial shot. So artfully composed and arranged. I can't stop looking at it, it's just so ✨pleasing✨
I have been watching your channel for months now, and I just recently got oil pastels because of your beautiful artworks. This video has come at such a convenient time to help me practice, and learn how to use the materials properly. Thank you for sharing your tips!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I paint with acrylic and oil. I was given a set of pastels and having them lay around for a while I have decided to experiment with them and see how far I can get. This was a very good tutorial. I already have most of the material, this helps make the start a lot more fun.
Incredible video, thank you! I’ve always loved oil pastels but your tips and recommendations bring even more freedom to this great medium. It has given me some confidence to work even more with oil pastels and get results I love.
If I can add something, for the "sealing" part, maybe it can help people. You have to let the drawing dry before apply anything on top (just like oil painting, so, depending on the thickness, it can be take few weeks, or maybe months) Also, on the market, the only "oil pastel fixative" is the sennelier :/ But you can use any oil painting fixative (you can have different finish like glossy or mat because they are many on the market) To use a fixative, it's like a spray painting, only little "pression", line by line (so press the spray, do a "line" on top and release) do it again as much as it take for cover all the surface. Turn your drawing at 90° and do it again on all the surface, to be sure it's well sealed. And like every other spray bottle, turn the bottle, and spray in the air for clean the "pipe" of the spray before put away. I hope my explanations are understable and not to messy (english is not my mother tongue, sorry).
Good advice. From a conservation framing point of view, if you're putting it under glass though, I question the need for fixative. I'm not sure, but I would compare it to watercolor where you do not spray it with fixative, and you want it under glass, preferably UV protected glass like say True View or something like that. If you're selling a 'painting' for hundreds of dollars, then it's worth it. :)
@@iri5505 It really depends of the thickness of your drawing and the oil pastel you use. For example, sennelier's one are very smooth beacause they are very oily, they need more time to dry than mungyo's one. You can gently touch your drawing to see if it's dry (but one/two week seems "short" to me for dry) I don't really know how much time mine take to dry because when I finish it, I place it somewhere and someday I'm like "oh, it's been few weeks, lets check if it's good"
@@flavie.3826 Yes, good point. From my side, I like to share framing and conservation information because it seems like largely people still don't know much about it. To me, artists who sell their work in particular, should have some knowledge of the subject. So I make a lot of comments to help share some of the information, and it's not even necessarily directed at anyone in particular, but just to get the knowledge out there. :)

Really it was a detailed and very informative video, thank you👏 I paint with soft pastels and never use oil pastel. After watching your impressive video, I definitely want to try oil pastel.🙋♀️
9:48 After properly cared with fixative/varnish, it cannot remain sticky, it must be rock hard, even when I use impasto with thick layers or 3D pastel blobs here and there. Don't hesitate to spray it 12 times (thin gentle layers), if needed. With the Talens 060 Varnish one layer is enough to make a parfect finish. Your artwork is fantastic, and a joy to watch your paintings and process videos.
@@attheranch873 Enough on itself, you use a soft flat brush to paint varnish liquid on top of your painting. Then clean the brush with mineral spirit. Yeah, it is more hassle, and takes time, but the result is fantastic.
@@miklosnemeth8566I didn't know that Talens makes a varnish for oil pastels. I definitely need to try it, since I hate spray ones because of toxic fumes. Thank you for the tip ❤

I drew an autumn landscape with cheap pastel paints that can be found in every stationery store. It's worth a try for those who haven't purchased professional paint yet.😍Thank you for your hard work. It was a very useful sharing 👏👏🌺❤
Thanks so much for the video! I was nervous about using brand new oil pastels I got as a present, but now I feel like I have some idea of how to better work with them. I also enjoy watching process videos, so this was really a win-win situation for me.
Such great content...I love your videos...so inspirational and showcases oil pastels as I've never seen before. I would love to see you write and publish a book on oil pastel techniques. Thanks so much for sharing your process, supplies and work!
I'm so happy your channel came up on my feed!! I also am in BC, but not on the lower mainland if that's where you are.. I'm a white girl, lol, not Japanese, but I do have somewhat of a fascination with things Japan, for instance I order from ZenMarket, I can't wait till I get to watch the new Studio Ghibli movie, I love Totorro, and I'm watching new Japanese releases on Netflix, etc. :) Growing up it seemed like there was always a dried up box of Reeves oil pastels kicking around, I was always fascinated and wanted to try, but they were so bad! So watching you compose masterpieces is pretty awesome, and I will look forward to watching more of your videos. I've recently been stocking up with watercolor supplies, and I actually bought the Nicker paints, and Muse paper, too. In fact I have a little Totorro painting I need to do, but there's something that keeps getting in my way... Anyway, I think I'm going to have to add some oil pastels next time I place an order, along with a Baren, some acrylic paint, gosh I think I'll be able to open my own store when I get finished, lol.
Descobri seu canal hoje, e estou encantada com sua arte, seu trabalho é lindo e emocionante, estou começando com giz pastel, e você já é uma enorme inspiração, obrigada ❤☺️🇧🇷
I use to paint with oil pastels/soft pastels and have been wanting to paint again. Sometimes I would do the underpainting with soft pastels and paint acrylic medium to seal it. Also used watercolor and gouache to start the background at other times. Never had the extensive collection of colors and that was sometimes a frustration but I would work in more limited palettes and buy colors as I needed them. Your paintings are beautiful! Really like your technique of liquifying the colors. Didn’t realize some of the pastel colors are toxic, good to know!
I enjoy your videos so much. They’re so relaxing and informative. I look forward to more of your oil pastel videos in the future. Thank you for sharing your process.
I just found your video here and I did not know all the techniques and stuff you can use with oil pastels! Your art is beautiful,I have wanted to try painting portraits for a while now. I am blown away by how beautiful your portraits are. Anyway I only have one thing to mention about the video is that the words at the bottom of the screen move to fast and I couldn’t keep up with the explanations at times. I’ve gotten older and I have been on a chemo maintenance for 10 years, I know now that chemo brain is a real thing. 😅 otherwise great video! And I am looking forward to watching more. New subscriber here! 😊
That's not a question, only a comment saying how much I love the texture that oil pastels have! I love their final appearence and how creamy they look when we are using them. I love when my fingers get all colored because of them 😊❤
YAYYY ANOTHER VIDEO! I was so excited 😭😭This was so informative! I think it would be really cool if you did a sketchbook tour next! I always kinda struggled with portrait sketches and I kinda want to see how you do them so well. Anyways, hope you have a great day, look forward to seeing you again!🥰🥰
I loved this video so much. Thank you a thousand times. I don't consider myself an artist, but I'm always floating around and I've been in love with oil pastels since I was a little girl and I'm discovering what I can do. Seeing your process is inspiring and meant a lot to me! I have many difficulties, two of them: 1. with regard to drawing itself, how to get depth, learn about colors and how to be able to create layers and colors with small palettes. I would love to know more about your depth techniques with pastel oils and how you go about creating color when you don't have many options! 2. I have the Mungyo professional 36 colors and the Pentel of 50 - but I don't really understand what to achieve with each of them - the pentel is less creamy, but I know it can be useful, it's just frustrating not knowing how to combine with the Mungyo, if I should combine... I would love to know more about the pastel oils you use, what you learned from each one... I think that's it! I can't wait for the next video!
Your art and this video literally soothed my soul! Thank you for sharing how you achieve greater detail and a oil painting like effect with pastels, this is information I was desperately seeking (even though it will take me a while to get to that point as a beginner) I just wanted to know it was possible!
I’m so inspired by your work! I absolutely loved and really appreciated this video. It was beautifully done, relaxing as well as informative. Hope to see more of such videos from you

Great video, perhaps the best intro to oil-pastels that I've seen. I see you didn't mention my favorite paper for oil pastels: sanded paper. It allows for lot of layering and works especially well mixing with colored pencils.
Thank you so much! This was really great! I’ve done a little bit of pastel, watercolor and oil, but never really done oil pastels and I’m excited to try them
Thanks for another calming and inspiring video. Clear gesso is mentioned as primer in the description box, but it's use is not clearly described in the video. Could you please tell on which drawing surfaces do you use it? Is it just on canvas or do you also use it for other surfaces? Thanks in advance for your response.

I am taking a drawing class with pastels and this video was so informative. Thank you so much for making this. Your artwork is very beautiful!
Glad it was helpful!☺️
I found your channel days ago because I have oil pastels and I was lost about how to use them. Not anymooore! Arigatou, merci, thanks!!!
Such great content...I love your videos...so inspirational and showcases oil pastels as I've never seen before. I would love to see you write and publish a book on oil pastel techniques. Thanks so much for sharing your process, supplies and work!
THANK YOU SMMMMM this was very helpful
Such an informative, beautiful and inspiring video. A piece of art in itself. Thank you!
Growing up it seemed like there was always a dried up box of Reeves oil pastels kicking around, I was always fascinated and wanted to try, but they were so bad!
Thank you so much for watching my video☺️❤️
Thank you so much for waiting my video☺️
Thank you for this video. It’s really informative and interesting. Looking forward to the one about the oil pastels
Very pleasing to watch, I think I will come back to this video many times. Subscribed!
thank you so much❤️
That's not a question, only a comment saying how much I love the texture that oil pastels have!
Thank you❤️ I'll include some sketchbook tours and portrait drawing next time I do a “sketch with me” video!
I loved this video so much. Thank you a thousand times. I don't consider myself an artist, but I'm always floating around and I've been in love with oil pastels since I was a little girl and I'm discovering what I can do. Seeing your process is inspiring and meant a lot to me!
I have many difficulties, two of them:
1. with regard to drawing itself, how to get depth, learn about colors and how to be able to create layers and colors with small palettes.
Very informative. Short but packs a great punch. Thanks so much!!
I’m so inspired by your work! I absolutely loved and really appreciated this video. It was beautifully done, relaxing as well as informative. Hope to see more of such videos from you
Thank you so much! it means so much to me! I'm excited to work on new drawings🥰

thank you for sharing this with us, your paintings are absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!❤️
Hi and thank you so much. This knowledge continues to push me forwards using oil pastels. A big change from my soft pastel experience. 🍃
Just got a beginner oil pastel set, this video helped a lot!!
glad it was helpful! hope you enjoy drawing with oil pastels🩷
Thank you for this video.. You really inspired me to learn
your artwork is so special. this video has been helpful for me! ❤
Great video, perhaps the best intro to oil-pastels that I've seen. I see you didn't mention my favorite paper for oil pastels: sanded paper. It allows for lot of layering and works especially well mixing with colored pencils.
Thank you so much! This was really great! I’ve done a little bit of pastel, watercolor and oil, but never really done oil pastels and I’m excited to try them
Found video informative. Can’t wait for the next ones! Thanks
So glad to discover your channel! 😊🎉❤
Thank you for a wonderful gift on a dreary Monday morning!
