  • So I finally had to try the "most expensive oil pastels" ! I know I got a good deal on these but dang they are expensive! I know you are probably thinking $150 is not expensive! Well for me I haven't spent more than $40 on a big set of oil pastels so this was quite the spending. Plus I'm a frugal qween! Anyways they are definitely worth the purchase if you are able to spend the money! I will definitely be using these conservatively! I gotta made them last!
I really hope you guys liked this review! I had so much fun trying them! If you guys have any ideas on what I should do next let me know! Love y'all! stay creative and don't forget to like and subscribe and click the bell so you know when I post next! :)!

Wow, what a relief to hear you say you don’t use the expensive supplies as you don’t want to “waste it”. I’m exactly the same. I’ve got beautiful soft pastel paper that cost $71 for ten sheets, and I use cheap sketch book paper because I don’t think I’m good enough yet. I hope I can get over this block someday, because the high quality art supplies get a far superior result, usually.

One thing I have learned and I wish someone had told me earlier on...Use professional grade art supplies because they act differently, and they are more pigmented so a little goes a long way. I now have mountains of student grade or mid range art supplies that I practice new techniques with and now I building my professional grade stash. Invest.

Always buy the best art supplies. Your customers will appreciate that 100+ years from now great, great grandma's old painting still looks as fresh and bright and colorful as the day it was made. Good to spray a finished work since oil pastel never truly dries, fights dust too. Cheap pastels or student grade don't have the same amount of pigment or inferior pigments and lack the archival qualities of professional grade oil pastels. Cheap supplies may have toxic binders such as lead or other heavy metals and the pigments may be fugitive and may even disappear or shift color over time. Use the best materials. You want your art to live on.

I have always been an artist and even when at war I drew and painted when I could. I have been looking at your videos on UA-cam and I like them very much. Your artwork is freaky as hell! But that’s what I like about it. Your use of color and form us unique and masterful. I wish I could purchase one of your originals eventually. Keep up your fine artwork. It is amazing! I currently live in Texas after moving here from Oslo, Norway and London. Texas is freaky also but not in a good way. It’s full of Trump loving real estate salesmen wearing cowboy hats and driving Escalades. Your work as I said is freaky in the best way and amazing. I will keep watching your videos. the second I clicked on this video and saw you, I already loved your personality; I vibed with it so well and you are just an incredible artist. I am also an artist but haven't done much art lately and watching how you incorporate color and blend them together with these boujee ass oil pastels was a magical experience; it made me want to make more art centralized on colors and color theory. I'll admit that your caricaturized style isn't like what I would do or what I usually see other people do but it has a great uniqueness to it; keep up this amazingness my dude! I'm new here but expect me to be back on this channel seeing you and your lovely face. I hope to one day own senneliers and bring back working with oil pastel because the only oil pastel set that I've used was my cray-pas from a third grade georgia o'keefe project lmao. sending all my love from one art hoe to another

You shouldn't be approaching it with the concern of its pricing at all. That is how you are holding yourself back. Plus you can offer your paintings for more $$ than your crayola based ones. So yea if you are selling art on the regular, that shouldn't be an issue at all.

Price of materials matters even when selling your work. Because the average artist, even when they're making sales often, isn't rich. And you have to factor in that cost to the price of your work and unfortunately, higher price equals less opportunity to make sales.

@@calmcuke6865 Not when they price their works properly. If they are selling them for cheap....that is their problem and they are not doing the art world any favors. They are also the reason why everyone wants $500 piece for $50.

I use Sennelier fixative but let the paintings harden for a couple of weeks. Then give 3 light sprays letting each coat dry for 24 hours. You’ll be amazed. Sennelier oil pastel pad is another super winner. Enjoyed your review very much.

I also just bought a set of Sennelier - all 250. My darling husband wiped the box with bleach so I could have it ASAP (otherwise we let all mail and packages sit in the front hall for at least three days to decontaminate). And yeah, this was pretty much my reaction, too: SQUEEEEE! I am finding they work excellently for pointillism - intense colour, ability to be accurate about dot placement, wonderful range for each hue. Not so good for colouring in large areas - poof, half the stick is gone! But fortunately, this brand sells individual pastels. Love your art, love your self expression, love your use of colour - your portrait pieces are so powerful! Hope you never stop!!!

gahhhh i LOVE THESE PASTELS! i copped the 24 pack a few months ago.... and I don't use them on their own due to the sheER POWER. they're vital due to the pigmentation, but i use harder pastels like craypas specialist and neopastels which i find creamy but also tackier than sennelier's lack of self control when it comes to marks on the paper. ooof i could go on. the mix of harder and softer oil pastels lets me control the marks and texture a lot more.

Sennelier is pronounced Sen-nel-lee-eh (the last is said like the letter A). It’s French. The pastels are expensive because of the higher cost of pigments used in them. As you noticed, they are buttery and rich in color. They will also be more lightfast than less expensive pastels - better for display work. Hope you enjoy them!

  • @ordinaryradiance

You’re so talented! I love Sennelier pastels. I have about 10 which I bought as open stock at Blicks. I’m shocked you bought 72 for $150. Why do I think it would be hundreds. When I first got them and discovered that it was like lipstick it freaked me out. They scared me being so professional and I am so not. Now I am taking a couple of tutorials. Don’t be afraid to use them - that’s nuts. It’s like having beautiful dishes that are too good to eat off of everyday. WHAT?!! Enjoy the best stuff - we are worth it. Your drawing is gorgeous and delicious. BTW - I did use one of the red ones as lipstick- only once.
Can’t believe you got all of that for $150. Also expensive for me but still. Sennelier also makes a larger size oil pastel stick bigger than a cigar.

I really enjoy Sennelier also. I started little by little collecting the Sennelier oil sticks because they come in larger sizes and are really smooth just like the oil pastels and oil painting never became easier. You can use your palette knives, brushes or make marks with the sticks and combine both the oil pastels and oil sticks.
