This was awesome and your tips were great! You sold me on mixed media! I’ll stop being such an oil pastel purist and stop fighting to get skinny tree branches in the distance with a thick oil pastel. I loved the hints about throwing in opposite shades to make a color richer, too. It really does work.
Yes! As always, you pack your tutorials with advice about composition, media color/theory & the best way to save money while still getting the desired results. ( Your "frugal crafter" title still holds, LOL!!)
I have seen Marla Baggetta and Alain Picard carve out trees with “sky holes” in soft pastels, I believe that you can do the same thing with oil pastels! So those twiggy details are not an impossible feature with these mediums!
I like the term "visually stimulating." One day I'll be able to paint loose and impressionistic but today I'm still a bit too tight. That's okay though, it's part of my artistic journey.
It's hard for me to be loose too but I needed to try to break away from the crazy detailed things I've painted in the past. This one took me 2 days and I'm reasonably happy with it. Good Luck on your journey.
I think the best thing is don't fuss. I found my best work is moving fast just letting go. When I don't care an start out as just practice I end up doing my best work.
I just bought oil pastels and followed along with your tutorial. All your tips about blending and using contrasting colors were just enough to help make my first pair a success! Can’t wait to keep going with this medium!

Please continue with more oil pastel videos! I enjoyed this a lot, and I have the Paul Rubens pastels that were on super discount on Prime Day, so I’m happy for the inspiration. Thank you for all the artistry and teaching, Lindsay! Your lemons perfectly glow with translucence- maybe have a video about how to achieve that in watercolor, colored pencils and oil pastel media?
Beautiful! Thanks for all the tips, you are always great about giving them. I've struggled with oil pastels in the past and given up trying to use them but you've given me inspiration to try again--thanks Lindsay!

LEMONS.....reminds me of the long, glorious days of summer....and, the short season it truly is. Your beautiful mixed media picture also brings to mind organic lemon juice in water....SO HEALTHY...the pretty lemon wreath that I never bought....and the positive quality of sunshine.😃🍋😃
I've tried oil pastels many times and could never get it to work for me. I even have some Senelier's thinking a better pastel would be the trick. Not sure why I never thought that a mixed media approach might be the way to go. Thanks for the great ideas. Great painting.
This turned out great! I love the luminosity of the lemon pulp!!! I haven’t tried oil pastel and don’t know if it’s in my future but the mixed media tips and watching you make this beautiful art work was a joy!
It’s so fun! I have both the PR and the mungyo, of the two I favor the mungyo the formula is more consistent than the set of PR I have is. That being said I love love love the colors I have in the PR set and was thrilled to get them at an absolute steal when I bought them. I’ve used paper blending stumps and the rubber tool and I love how little mess there is with the rubber tool over the stumps. I cannot for the life of me get them to blend with my fingers though, lol maybe I’ll try her glove tip as it’s totally possible it is a texture issue, I don’t even touch soft pastels or chalk for that very reason lol.
I liked this so much I watched it twice! I haven't used oil pastels since High school, but can't imagine any colored pencil would work over them, but somehow you make it work!
I love your philosophy with mixing media! Thanks for all the tips. Loved when you added your prisma. I’m looking forward to following along in critique club. Thanks Lindsay!

Gorgeous! My husband who is a muggle -) loved it too. Have you tried the Winsor & Newton Studio Collection Colored Pencils? Blick has them for $25 for the full 48 set. I imagine so. You will need to use the white quite a bit but I don't see why not.
@@thefrugalcrafter I guess I just didn't know whether they'd have all the colors you used (well, close enough to count, at least). But I might just give this a try after all! I've got plenty of watercolor paper lying around, so why not! I can hang it in my kitchen later. 🤣
Amazing! Loved it.
