He ain't human he's from the planet Zog, I lived three doors along from him. He'd remember me from the big bonfire I had when I burnt all my guitars after hearing him play...😎
Any one who can play like you do does not deserve the epithet “normal human,” you are gifted. Thank you for sharing this moment of inspiration, I am encouraged to enjoy a few more years of life if only to listen to your performance of Mona Ray again, and yet again. I was fortunate enough to hear Leo live in the Bay Area and in Portland in the 70’s and 80’s and still listen to recordings of his work. Your rendition stands up to his work from those early years without apology. Thank you, and thank you again.
very, very, clean and beautiful. Kotke deserves someone like you to carry on his wonderful melodies. These are pieces of musical art just like a mozart, brahms, chopin, or handel concerto.
Probably my favorite LK piece. btw, we flew to Milwaukee from Philly to attend your 3/19/10 recital....and we had the chance to meet you, Mr. Stropes, Andrew Lardner, Macyn Taylor, and other students. The UW-Milwaukee program is a national treasure.
Absolutely beautiful playing, one of the most, if not the most melodious songs Leo Kottke ever performed. You played it beautifully, I could listen over and over, wonderful!
This is probably my favorite piece by Mr. Kottke. I know I played my Dreams and All That Stuff album to death back in the 70s. I like your slightly slower interpretation. Very nice. You do the song proud.
I love the base line it's so special I also have that whit ring intro Love his style, he is realy diggin in to those base strings. He is one of a kind he is funny and realy down to earth to. At least my opinion. Sorry for my bad english i am from the netherlands.but you know what i mean i hope.
Just looked up Leo Kottke because I'm figuring out all these amazing layers. I'm picking up my Taylor guitar and taking a few lessons. The less I think hard and let my brain figure it out the more fluid it gets, and the more emotion the more intricate things I figure out. Instead of seeing you play that beautiful piece and being intimidated I'm going to keep on playing. Thank you very much for sharing your playing for all of us!
Benjamin... This is such a beautiful rendition of Leo's tune. I keep coming back to it, as well as your version of Ojo. Such superb musicianship! Thank you!
I've been playing this and Ojo (learned by tab) for years, but never sounded or felt quite right. Your smooth and crisp technique has helped bring it into focus so I can better capture the feel and actually finish the song. Became #500 subscriber today!
OUTSTANDING!!! I learned this tune in 1989. You hit all the notes perfectly (and the vibratoes on the hammer-ons, which give it a Spanish-ness). All I would ask is that you speed it up by a 1/4 note or so. It's the difference between Mr Rogers and Robin Williams. Ya feel me? Nice work!
It's inspiring to see that regular humans can play this stuff, too.

+jimmydutwo Many thanks for the kind words! I couldn't agree more--these are pieces of musical art.
"Mona Ray, the most beautiful name" and the most lovely melody. I hear Michael Johnson in here as well as Leo Kottke.

Possibly as close to "The Master" as any of we lesser mortals can get. Great job on one of my favorite Leo masterpieces!
Superb rendition of a beautiful tune. Dare I say it's right up there alongside Leo's own version. Huge respect

Ah, that's it! Just a sublime rendition of my favorite LK tune. Thank you!
Always nice to see and hear folks that have a passion for the interesting music of Leo Kottke !
Lovely quiet piece !
This song and "Here Comes the Sun" are probably some of the prettiest tunes that were ever written around a D-chord. Very nicely done!

That was beautiful! Even though you played it a full step down, I think it actually sounds better in that key. Great stuff!

Slow it down about a couple of hole notes and that is about where I am at. LOL
I disagree the tempo is perfect, qny faster and you'd lose some of the beautiful subtleties.
I say ignore the peanut gallery and wannabe critics. Play it as you feel it. Beautifully interpreted and played. Perfect
Well done. From a 60 year player, well done.
Well done , nice larivee
Wow (:
Nice ! Great sound. Regular tuning?
Drop D.
Thanx Benjamin, If I can later afford lessons I will let you Know. !!
OK, I'll have to try it again. My fingers are not smiling.
nice
YIKES!!!!
You play like Kottke and look a bit like Michael Hedges. Nice job!
Can I just say, I hate you so much. You play beautifully, don't get me wrong. I'm just ridiculously jealous.
faster...
