- Courtesy of the Donnie Sutherland UA-cam channel comes this final upload from Donnie's extensive archives, a wonderful 1983 interview and live performance by American acoustic guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke, performing Mr Fonebone from his then just-released album Time Step.
I just love the entirety of this video - the interview, the impeccable playing, Leo being Leo. Incredible.
A true national treasure
This was the year I was born. This guy oh my GOD. Leo. Much respect ❤❤❤
Never tire of Kottke.
Got the chance to open up for him at t he Quiet Knight in Chicago when I was young.. Played the night he got a call his wife was having the baby and he had to leave early, so we ended up playing his slot too. He was a super nice guy...
Hello six!
How are you doing?
It's nice meeting you here!
40 years ago! Oh, the passing of time...
Interviewer: You're the world's best acoustic guitarist
Leo: I recently learned how to read
Mr. Fonebone...finally see the live performance of it. Priceless!
You are totally awesome I remember you in the 70s believable lie fabulous
Leo Kottke is a god
Nobody does that beat like Leo!!!
Mr Fonebone…….somehow I just knew he read Mad magazine. Great sense of humour and some talent.
Evocative performance. I can see the foot.
First time I ever heard him in the 70s i swore it was 2 or 3 guitar s
Genious
Amazing
I have been trying to transcribe this cut so thank you. Priceless.
Keep us updated on your transcription? What a wonderful Kottke melody. I hear teases of a few of his other tunes in there. 😎🎸
How is the transcription coming, Bertrand? The one currently available on tabpigs is quite inadequate
Poetry in motion... not much more...
More reverb than you usually hear on him? Perhaps it's the way the studio did the sound?
On his Hoffman Guitar, no less!!
Donny was such a gay intervier
God bless his soul
He did his best
Do you have Leo Kottke and Schulyer, Knobloch, and Bickhardt on Austin City Limits in 1988?
Just realized he looks like Tony Dinozo from NCIS.
Just so everyone knows, the person commenting as "Leo Kottke" is NOT Leo. Just some troll with a fake name and email address.
Wicked!
What kind of animal would dare trespass on a guy as beloved & humble as Mssr Kottke, the King of creativity; unrepreduceable on any flat-top with 6-12 strings!!
I guess it goes with the territory, huh?
They say the greatest compliment is when others try to copy-cat...
At any rate, he's a model, even for the best of us...🤍💯🕳👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@TennesseeMethuselah, the classic saying is "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".
More reverb!
Mr Fone Bone lol
