- In this video I show my method of mounting houseplants that I use at the plant store where I work - Urban Jungle in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thanks for watching!
Supplies needed:
• Cork bark / rot resistant wood
• Epiphytic houseplant (Hoya, Fern, Epiphyllum, Rhipsalis, Bromeliads...)
• Sphagnum moss
• Preserved sheet moss (optional)
• Fishing line
• Malleable wire (Bonsai or Florists Wire works great)
• Scissors / wire cutters
• Drill / hammer (to create hole for hanging wire)

I really liked your demonstration . It looks pretty simple to do and I like the use of sheet moss to finish it off. I think that will also help hold in moisture as well. I want to mount some bromeliads and ferns on my patio wall to save space and add interest , and this technique will give me some versatility .
You are the absolute cutest.
I have staghorns busting out of pots I really need to do this with! Thanks Nick!
Awwwww so cool! Now I must run out to get supplies lol thanks for sharing!!

Good & clear demonstration of securing the plant 👍
Very interesting demo. Thanks. Definitely food for thought.
Your videos are brilliant, great to watch your passion for plants 🌱
Simple to understand. I'm looking forward to my first mount. I think I'm going to go with something small the first time. Much appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Nick, I have never heard of this technique before- and I LOVE IT! ❤️ I’m a total outdoor food grower (veggies, berries, grafting fruit trees). Houseplants have never been a favorite of mine, having only a few. THIS looks amazing to me- with all the outdoor elements look to it- I totally want to go for it and cover my walls! I just love these mounting videos you make! Thank you for sharing your ideas and talents with us! 🌱🌟

I was wondering if you had mounted the Hoya that I saw in Urban Jungle when I was there around thanksgiving. So great to see a video. Thanks Nick!
You could also use some burlap for the roots if you have some loose soil you want to keep.
Thank you so much. I love this😍🌿🇦🇺

You are living the dream, Nick. You really should come slumming up to the Skook to hang out with me, though. I have plenty of wire cutters.
Great channel and I just watched the best informative video on UA-cam! By the way I'm from Philadelphia too I'm right on Christian behind Rittenhouse.

Cool
Im sorry for say this because I really love plants.................but you are so handsome and cute!!! so I subscribed because of you...
Ty so much
Great video! Do you put anything behind it to protect the wall from moisture from the plant? I know when you take it down to water it well and let it dry before putting it back up, but I’m concerned there will still be moisture in the wood…any tips about protecting the wall? Thanks!
Brilliant. i am so trying this & I had no idea about Hoyas. can you show us a Hoya plant demo next time.
Gorgeous! Nick, I purchased a small Japanese birds nest fern that was mounted on a board and I think I didn’t water it enough. If the leaves are still green but feel dry and, sadly, bordering on crunchy, is my plant dead or can I revive it? It’s in a hallway with far indirect light in NYC. Thanks for any info (if not you, any other gardeners reading this).
They need a decent amount of humidity. Consider placing in a bathroom near a window
Thank u brother
I usually use a hair net to tie the moss, LOL
Can you do a video about soaking the mounting plant Nick? :)
Just soak in a bucket of water 🤷♂️😂
Thank you for this video! Is that New Zealand sphag moss? Is there a difference? Also, how do I buy one of those tetraserma plants behind you?
Great video. @nick pileggi Which rhipsalis do you have mounted?
Thank you so much for your demonstration. I got myself some cork bark and sphagnum moss as I have a Dischidia Platyphylla to mount. However, I'm not sure what size of fishing line I need. Can you kindly advise. Thanks
Nice Video! How do you water them? Do you take them of...
😍😍
I would love to purchase a few. I'm in Philly suburbs.
seeing you cut that wire with regular scissors caused me physical pain
How do you water the fern if its walready mounted on the wall? Can i use spray bottle to concentrate on the moss? Can you recommend any easy organic fertilizer thay can help better healthier? Thank you
I maybe attempting mount a huge (3’) Platycerium, any tips ?
What do you use for mounting wood for orchids, ferns, etc..
Hye, what compost should be used for replant the Bird s nest in a pot?
What type of sheet moss do you use?
Hi I couldn't find out sphagnum moss can u plz tell me how to grow moss by myself...
I’m from Philly as well where is this store located?
we can apply this to other kinds of ferns too right?
Next time put the fishing line in a heavy bowl and it can just flip flop around as you wind it. Its a trick from sewers.
That's great to know about, thanks!
My hoya mauna loya is broken (not quite severed) at the bottom near the soil. It is wilted. Since I discovered it, it seems to be absorbing some water, so it appears to have a connection to the root. How do I save it. I need a link to propagating these plants. PLEASE help.
Is this what you did to your orchid? If so, how do you water it? I'd love to make a mount for my orchid too :)
Soak it, in a bucket or in the shower, and mist it every day.
Please help my bird nest fern is browning and turning yellow as well. Water only when dry. Plant had no care instructions when I purchased it.
instead of hanging it, can i put it on a flat surface after i mount it thank you
I was thinking the same! I'm sure its just as well 😊
Can I do this with anthuriums?
Great and really helpful video! Just a tip! The "ph" on sphagnum sounds like a "F", instead of a "P". Latin, I know... 😅
Perhaps it's "Latin à l'anglaise" 😉😄. But, fortunately, Nick Pileggi is one of those nice and thoughtful American and British UA-camrs who kindly put the botanical names of the plants on the screen or in the description box, so that a poor foreigner like myself can identify them 😊.
@@cleliac.2470 oh yeah, probably is, and agreed! Nick is such a dear, I do love his videos 💖. Funny fact, Anglo speakers don't say "epiPytic plants", but "epiFytic" for epiPHytic 😅
@@fabiocarvalho2105 Of course they do 😄. I know that your "tip" was meant in a kind way and that there was absolutely no arrogance to it. But I really find it fascinating how the botanical Latin used by, let us say, Russian, German and even French florists and plant lovers is mutually intelligible, whereas the English version is something very… special 😁.
@@cleliac.2470 😅😅😅
@@cleliac.2470 what happens to me is, since I speak a Latin language (Brazilian Portuguese), the way Anglo speakers say stuff in ancient Latin kinda screams in my ears 😅😅😅, for example, adansoni-AI
What do you do to the wood so it won't rot with all the watering?
He said the cork bark won’t rot.
Where can I get this cork online
🖐🏆🏆🏆🏆❤❤❤❤❤
So your boss doesn't watch any of your videos? haha! i was so scared you were going to cut your finger off. whew! Thanks for sharing!
Is that birds nest fern?
lucky me i got a bark from my garden
Can I mount any kind of plant ?
Nope
I will try to do it with Woodglut plans.
After it's mounted, how much is it worth now?
It depends on the fern
HOW LONG COULD THIS PLANT LIVE ON THE PIECE OF WOOD?
forever
Forever
I enjoyed your video but I would like to give you a good special tip on a couple things if you wanted to text me you can't you will enjoy the information I give you
