VERY cool and informative video. THANK YOU! Despite your shaky start & a tongue that did tricks, you rocked this post, which - I just noticed - appeared on my birthday. I'm doing research to save my Crocodile fern. (Was just finally able to properly name it this afternoon after nearly one year of companionship! I purchased it as a Bird's Nest fern...) I appreciate you re-potting before our eyes AND showing your propagation results 14 weeks down the line. You do good work. Again, thanks for the assist!
Ohh that's beautiful. I have two little ones that are not doing well. I had them in bright light but I think they were thirsty....I'll put them back in my indoor greenhouse.
Good Morning....Sean. This is a lovely Fern....i love it so much. I have this Fern too...and now a large Fern. In our language we called LUKUT. Thank you....Sean.
Hi Sean. This is my favorite indoor fern so far. I do have one but it’s not that big. I will place in a brighter area for it to grow larger. Thanks for showing us how to propagate. I had no idea how to do this. Great video. 👍
I wish you could help me demystify my crocodile ferns. I bought them as one-leaf cuttings with the crown root or whatever that's called, and I've had them for over a year now. They're still just one leaf each! Based on what you said in this video, I'm doing all the right things. I dunno what the heck is wrong with these. Granted, the leaf on each has gotten bigger, but that's it. Wut the heck? LOL
@@onlyplants I did pull them out after a few months of frustration. I changed the media to include coco husks. Out of the three plants, only one grew a baby leaf that took about a month to get from a millimeter to an inch, then died off. Waaah! I tried putting one in direct sunlight and it burned it, the other one in full shade grew bigger but no new growth, and the one (control subject) that I left in the same spot that got bright indirect light, didn't budge. Most recent thing I did was cut off the leaf of the second one to see if it will grow a new frond like the other one did - I had to cut off 80% of the frond because of mechanical damage to the leaf. so far nothing. Nada. I've decided to just let it do what it wants for now. LOL
I just recently got one of these. I just think they're absolutely gorgeous. I actually got this to put into my snakes enclosure and I do hope it does well in her enclosure. This whole video I'm almost crying lol. Have a good day.
I found mine at Steins garden center here in Wisconsin. I was reading that they live under the canopy of other trees in their natural habitat (similar to epiphytic holiday/Christmas/thanksgiving/Easter cactus) …so bright INDIRECT light is probably best. Direct light can burn the leaves. The texture of the leaves IS really stunning which is what drew me to this plant in the first place, but the bright green coloring is just as beautiful and I love how it brightens up my home. I did not know they grow so large, now I’m even more excited. I used Sungro black gold standard potting mix, and I add perlite for extra drainage and I make sure the soil is never sopping wet and the container drains well. I never let it dry completely between waterings. All these comments before I’ve finished watching your video lol. And now I will watch the rest of your video.
I have 2 and the have both been static for over a year, so I took it out under the patio, watered it more regularly and it seems to be looking healthier. Still yet to throw out new fronds though.
As for the pests all of my ferns do invite scale like no other plant. But scale is easy to get rid of with systemics so it's not a big deal. Your fern is gorgeous! I've never seen such a big specimen :)
@@Stoneylfm round brown bumps. On ferns it's sometimes mistaken for spores but it often attaches on the stem. There is also a sticky reside on the leaves if the scale attacks it, it's the dew they secrete, like aphids.

Hello!☺️☺️ your fern is very beautiful!!😍😍 I also have one that doesn't grow much I would like to know what type of substrate you used thank you so much for all your videos💚💚💚💚
That’s incredible that it’s grown so large. I’ve had mine for 9 months and it hasn’t grown much larger than 8cm in length. I know it’s in good care, but I have to seriously wonder why it’s growing so slowly
@@onlyplants Okay. I switched it to a more epiphytic mixture. The original that it came with was nearly just pure potting mix which maybe constricted the roots a bit. I also got a bit of sea soil to add in small amounts periodically for instant fertilization.
@@taraschweizer It's not any bigger. I bought a second one just to see if I had gotten one with bad genetics. It's been over a year now and the pictures I took from last february to this february is... Maybe a few mm taller? You can't tell any growth has happened honestly. Not even rhizome spreading.
How much humidity do you grow this fern in? It looks beautiful there in Indonesia, but you have a great deal of humidity there, right? I watched one of your videos with HUGE SAGO PALMS, growing outside..I was envious as one of my favorite plants, but I live in very high altitude with low humidity and cold snowy winters.
Love It just got a baby one, also I don’t actually enjoy you struggling to get them out of the pot hahahaha there is a better way to do it so you don’t have to struggle with them hahaha, the way I do it is pushing the soil out from the bottom of the pot with a stick to soften it up a lil bit, then pull the plant out lol, good day sir I really enjoy your videos. Saludos from Charlotte NC USA
Oh my goodness! I have one of these but it's still so incredibly small. If starting with a 2-4" plant, how long does it take to get to this size? Anyone know?
They love more light than you think. A bit of morning direct if you can give it, otherwise bright indirect. Do fertilize lightly but often. Itll take about 1 year to get to this size 🥰
@@onlyplants Good to know! I have another two to four months to go, here in Louisiana (USA South). My fronds are more coiled and not nearly as spear-straight as yours, Sean. My looker's are also a darker green. Starting today I'm looking to see what I can do with a more generous watering schedule.
Saw so many here in Thailand where I am visiting now. Unfortunately I killed mine from overwatering… the new ones coming into the market are really hardy, I assume they are coming in from tissue culture.
Hi! I inherited a croc fern with possible root rot. Soil was sopping wet with molded over egg deposits I removed as much of the old soil from the root ball as possible, but it is so tightly compacted and I definitely suspect some root rot. This is my first time so I’m not sure how resilient they are. Is it OK to cut off the root ball? What do you suggest?
Those eggs might be dangerous fungi. Spray it down with fungicide or neem oil to be sure. This action can also help to slow down rot. You can divide it at the root ball zone and wait. Even without leaves it can sprout babies

I've seen this plant at our stores and had no idea they grew so big. Thanks for the video Sean.
I literally just got one of these today! Much smaller but its gorgeous. Definitely an underrated plant.
