Danny Carey, the drummer, is one of the best drummers of all time. His time signatures are unique and unexpected, and that's what makes TOOL, TOOL. He is also an accomplished Jazz drummer and infuses African and Middle eastern rhythms into his music. If you want to see him in his true glory, you have to check out his live performance of Pnuema.

Long pause..... the answer is no... he didn't say that but he realized what the interviewee was saying and they switched subjects...

@@Sanjayadhikari1 I agree that drumming you can bop your head and vibe to is great in and of itself, but music that keeps you guessing is definitely a lot of fun for people who feel like they've heard it all before. It's kind of like the difference between simple poppy sing-along lyrics and complex rhyme schemes that require a little more attention.
Also, Maynard sang on a Rage Against the Machine song called “Know Your Enemy” from their 1992 album, and it is an absolute BANGER. He did a song with the Deftones called Passenger that people go crazy for.
I’ve seen Tool 3 times in concert and they never disappoint. All members are some of the best. Maynard’s voice is so unique and recognizable. One of my favorite bands of all time!
Schism is an awesome tune, just takes a few listens. Their times are weird, not always a typical 4/4. Give it a chance, trust me, some of the best music gets better with each listen.
You should have started out with The Pot. Its the gateway drug to Tool. Schism is like dropping off a grade school kid in a Calculus class. You are into the lyrics and the change ups you will dig it. You cant do the head bob because they change time signatures all the time. And also Maynard is the frontman for 2 other bands and they each have 4 or 5 albums.
Ha ha ha, I love this comment because it reminds me of my favorite TV show The Venture Bros. when a father is trying to introduce his son to prog rock and he's like "whoa, no King Crimson. You're not ready for that yet" lol.
Vicarious by Tool was the song of theirs that threw me down their rabbit hole. I had heard their popular songs as a kid and liked them ok but never really thought about them again. Then I heard Vicarious as an adult with life experience. It blew my mind. I had to go find the lyrics to read the rest of that message, because what I did hear and understand was scathingly honest and true!
Tool is one of the few bands where it really helps to go in order. Start from the beginning and work your way through. Their whole jive is about cycles of growth, relapse, and rebirth. You miss a lot by jumping around
Or at least go album by album. Might be better to draw someone in with “The Pot” and 10,000 Days and either jump to Fear Innoculum or work back to Lateralus then Aenima etc
The song that put them on the map back in the day is Sober from the Undertow album. If you want to do another Tool song, do that one, and watch the music video.
the pot is where most people start their tool journey. another starter for a lot of people is danny carey pneuma drum cam, it’ll give you a better appreciation for the complexity that these guys put into their music. tool for many is definitely a grower band, you can’t just drop in and like a bunch of their songs. listen to your commenters recommendations cause they will guide you down your tool journey should you take it!! schism is their top song on spotify for a reason! these guys put real soul and spirit into their music and not just through the vocals
Since you have listened to this song, you owe it to yourself to revisit Schism in the future. Tool are definitely progressive rock(complex rhythm and time signature changes) Maynard is definitely an awesome lyricist. The whole band is crazy talented. Its a rabbit hole getting into this band. Cheers
I feel so validated. Everything I love, you have loved. Everything I hate, you have hated lol. This is my favorite Tool song of all time. I’m not really a fan of the band in general but this song slayed me and it’s on my playlists regularly almost 20 years later.
If you want more Maynard Keenan try one of his other bands. A Perfect Circle. Start with the song "Judith". Young woman named Paz Lenchantin lays down one of the best bass tracks I have ever heard in this song
Fun Fact about Tool's guitarist Adam Jones: Jones was offered a film scholarship but declined and chose to move to Los Angeles to study art and sculpture. His interest shifted to film, and he began to work as a sculptor and special effects designer, where he learned the stop motion camera techniques he would later apply in Tool's music videos, such as "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Stinkfist", "Ænema", "Schism", "Parabola", and "Vicarious". He graduated in 1987. After graduation, he went to work at Rick Lazzarini's Character Shop. During the next two years, he worked on the TV show Monsters. He designed and fabricated a Grim Reaper makeup and a zombie head on a spike (later used in Ghostbusters II) among others. After that, he went to Stan Winston's special effects workshop, where he worked on Predator 2, sculpting a unique-looking skull for the Predator's spaceship interior. Jones worked on several other films in Hollywood doing makeup and set design, including Jurassic Park, Batman Returns, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dances with Wolves, and Ghostbusters II. He did the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, as well as work for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. He also worked on commercials for salad dressing (never aired), Olympic Paints & Stains (Albert Einstein makeup), and Duracell (boxers and taxicabs).
I was lucky enough to see Tool live in Sacramento circa...2002 ish. H is my favorite song and when he hit that "I don't Miiiiiiinnnnd" and all the instrumentation cut out....man. When I tell you I felt that in my BONE MARROW! I literally wept. Like my body couldn't handle whatever freaking vibration he was sending out....for real. Core memory. Check out H ❤
I don’t think he’d like that one since it’s a little bit more ambient and not as bop-worthy. I love the song, but judging from his Schism reaction, he ain’t gonna like it (at least not yet).
Personally, I would call them progressive heavy rock. They seem out of place when compared to "typical" prog metal bands. But what genres but a bunch of made up words anyway lol
honestly my first album was Aenima. i always thought it was a great introduction to actually diving in. I mean i had heard undertow prior, but only bits and pieces. and none of opiate at that point
Rob! If you do more Tool and want something with some biting lyrics, I recommend "Aenema" "Hooker With A P****" or "Ticks and Leeches" (though that one has an extended "jam" you might not dig) IF you want to have your MIND BLOWN, "Lateralus" or "The Grudge" And if you want to take a deep dive, do "Parabol" and "Parabola" back to back.
Interesting fact, Maynard James Keenan, the vocalist for Tool, also collab'd on a track with RATM on their debut album, which is a song I'd put on the listen list if you haven't already. The track is called "Know Your Enemy"
Came here to say this. It's such a killer song. Two of the best bands, and those talented folks had connections despite differing genres, cross-pollination at its best. Both really made the 90s for me.
I second this. They are definitely one of the bands where going in order is key, especially if you're new to rock or prog rock in general, otherwise you're going to get very confused and not understand how their music works. Tool albums also work best when played from start to finish. Jumping around can really mess with the flow, heck some if their songs are literally meant to be played back to back. Us Tool fans will be happy to guide you on your journey. Just hit us up. Definitely please do go back to Schism in the future. It's a masterpiece of a song and your ears simply weren't ready for such a complex prog song. I think you'll end up loving it once you've explored Tool some more.
Tool also has arguably the best drummer alive in Danny Carry. The band is very impressive. seems like they are always doing new invective things. The more i learned about music theory the more impressive they became. As far as comments about their lyrics; when they were starting out the would refuse to put lyrics in the info sleeve of the CD, which a lot of bands did, because they didn't want the lyrics to ruin anyone's individual emotional response to the music as a whole. Or at least thats what ive always heard
Highly recommend having the lyrics up. Adds so much more depth to the journey. Maynard is both an instrument and a guide through the song. Embrace it, and you'll have a band that gives you more every time you listen.
I’d recommend checking out “Vicarious”. A slightly different style than The Pot but on the same album, and it’s my 2nd favourite Tool song (this being the first)
I literally subscribed just to get this “stinkfist” listened to…. Been a girl from that time this was everyone’s song and what got them out and there PERIOD!!!! The original shit let’s gooooooo
Progressive rock/metal oversimplified: they fit in the constellation of metal bands, but they're the sort of group that is always sailing out in uncharted waters, pushing out the edges of the map. They play around with time signature, rhythm, instrumentation, lyrics and vocals to do neat and weird things. Personally, I think of them as a metal parallel to bands like Rush and Yes. It is a band where every single member is an absolute master of their instrument, with vocals and lyrics to match. In a way it's like watching a master chef at work; what they put on your plate could be a new twist on something old, or something completely new, and it may not always be to your taste, but always interesting.
If he's getting into Prog and guitars, lets put a spin on the white people music series and introduce him to Animals As Leaders. Get some Tobin Abasi into his life!
@@thewarhamster8139 Not much into Animals as Leaders, but they sometimes appear in my shuffle and I can immediately tell it's them - quite a distinct sound they have.
Tool stuff can be very varied and quite challenging musically. I think "the pot"is one most people appreciate right away. Glad you liked, I think they're one of the most interesting bands still playing out there, so unique. Vicarious next, definately 🤟🤟
Most of Maynards lyrics are phenomenal. Schism is a good tune just give it a listen after you've heard a few other tool songs. Aenima if you want some crazy lyric content.
There is nothing quite like Tool. Top of their game musicians with great lyrics and vocals from the one and only MJK. There are so many songs that many of us Tool fans can recommend. That said, listen to the lyrics of each song and let the music take you on a ride. Enjoy brotha because there's a pretty good chance you're gonna go down the rabbit hole lol
If lyrics are important for you, 'Vicarious' and '10,000 Days' have some very heavy undertones, but 10,000 days def one of those that takes long to build up. Also Maynard sings for A perfect Circle, and I would recommend Pet and The Noose from that band. Hopefully you will get to other bands like Disturbed, Slipknot, Korn, Tenacious D, and much more cause I would love to see what you think of their music.
You enjoying this one has me rolling. This is why your reaction to Schism was so hilarious to everyone, because Tool truly has some crazy, amazing music. But yeah, it's way different.
As others have said, Schism was not a great one to start with, The Pot is much more "accessible". As you mentioned, they are a really unique band, and use such crazy time signatures that even classical musicians can't figure it out 🤣🤣. Again as others have said Vicarious would be a good one to go for next; I was going to suggest Sober, and working you way through chronologically is good because they do get more complex as they mature on the whole. Enjoy the ride! 🖤🖤
...How? Schism is much more of a "normal" or "standard" song, and has good melodic emotion as well. Whereas "The Pot" is pretty "straight" and "hard" in comparison. That's like saying someone who doesn't like metal should listen to Load before The Black Album lol. Quite an insane claim! Just because this one single individual liked the worse and more snoring song better then a good song doesn't mean that it is somehow "more accessible" when it literally doesn't even have a single melodic part and when the lyrics are incredibly non-metaphotocal even!
Hey Rob found your channel through your Chop Suey video and I just wanna say I really enjoy your reactions and your honest reviews. Was cool to see you give this song a chance and love it especially coming off of Schism. All the best man
I love that you're doing this series. Your reactions are exactly the reason why I never restrict myself to one style of music. There so much good to be had in every genre. Keep it going!
Maynard is a beast. Fronts 3 bands, and has a winery. Tool is an experience. They have evolved over the last 3 decades. Danny Carey is one of the best drummers of all time. Their sound is going to be very different depending on which album and which decade it's from. They have so many great songs, though.
Tool can be a tough listen, especially the first time when the boys are throwing all this shit at you at supersonic speeds. I have to confess that I still haven't wrapped my head around their latest, "Fear Inoculum". I think I have a (very) minor sensory processing disorder and if shit gets too complicated it just sounds like noise. I've been listening to Tool since "Undertow" and I still find new stuff every time I listen to these.
@@zburnham that makes sense. I loved learning the drum parts to the album. It took me so many listens to figure out the timing but now that I do know the songs, it's obvious that the album is a work of art.
The outro made me so happy -- the eagerness to listen to more. Tool songs put you into a different head space. Schism is great if you give it a more critical listen -- the time signatures are weird, but when you pick them up, it's stunning.
schism is a really amazing song, for someone who’s used to tool, it’s a bit more complex side of grooves cause it’s meant to throw u off with the off beat rhythms
The thing you seem to be most driven by is groove. Tool has a number of power groove tunes but they will often incorporate other. complex and nuanced techniques in their songwriting that imbue what you sort of described as a more cerebral experience. Measures in music will have count called a time signature and when that time signature is outside a four count it can be harder to feel the “natural flow” you’re used to... this doesn’t make it good or bad - just a different wavelength or feel. Progressive rock often does this. You might look up Tom Sawyer by Rush for a classic progressive rock tune with a cool groove and some odd time signatures. Another fun song with a cool groove and strange time signature is Never the Machine Forever by soundgarden. I think what you’re after is power groove. Check out Becoming by Pantera or for a hip hop collab - Just Another Victim by House Of Pain and Helmet. Another song by tool I’d recommend is hooker with a penis. I’m not sure you’ll like the music because it’s pretty hard but you’ll love the lyrics.
This is probably the most accessible tool song. You should do more. I'm confident you'll even come around to schism again. It's somewhat difficult to get used to the odd time signatures and switch ups if you've not listened to alot of similar. I also love the lyrics of this one, so many double entendres
Tool will grow on you if you give them a chance. Fantastic musicianship and lyrical prowess, a band to experience with a great sound system or pair of cans.
Every part of this band is exceptional. They ARE unique, nobody else like them. Gotta try 46 and 2 next, and definitely Pneuma (Danny Carey drum cam)! Talk about fire 🔥
there's an old saying in the metal/rock circle "Tool is your favorite artist's favorite artist" they are pretty legendary and have arguably never released a bad record. they play with time signatures and polyrhythms (Danny Carey is the best drummer alive and its not close) like nobody else, Maynard's lyricism, vocal range and body of work (check out A Perfect Circle and Puscifer) is the stuff of myth. Adam Jones on guitar is always killer, and Justin Chancellor has some of my favorite bass-lines in all of rock music. the music they make is very nuanced and extremely hard to replicate but somehow still sounds incredible and often hits the mainstream whenever they come around to releasing new music. the only downside is that the fanbase can be pretty zealous and cringey at times - i would know, my Myspace page was clown-circus type shit lmao. keep up the videos Rob love seein you have fun listening to new shit. check out The Mars Volta if you wanna hear some more crazy experimental stuff that slaps for no reason. Cicatriz Esp is a great song
The greatest band of all time that nobody knows about. Never streamed their songs until recently, and not radio friendly because of length of songs and some lyrics.
If you want something that really fits "greatest band of all time that nobody knows about" check out Failure. Maynard has said he loves them, and has even covered one of their songs in APC
Definitely. They pull no punches and give zero f*cks. By the end of listening the first time, you feel pulverized and positively bewildered, because WTF was that?! I had no idea music could *be* like that, and I was desperate for more.
Im kinda floored that more rappers dont sample this song. Every god damn mf moment of the song could be sampled in endless ways. When this song came out was a huge turning point in my life. Huge nostalgia vibes.
schism definitely not a great song to get introduced to Tool with, a lot of their stuff is super experimental and not the easiest to listen to. if this was more up your alley I would recommend Vicarious, Lateralus, Sober, and Forty Six & 2

@@johnnyb6067 I've listened to a few of their songs and haven't yet found any that interested me much.
@@PongGod I finally KIND OF like it after like the 10th listen lmao. The chorus is too simple and not that great, I think thats the problem.
TOOL's music is all over the pace, it's impossible to label them and that's what makes them so appealing.
I’ve seen Tool 3 times in concert and they never disappoint. All members are some of the best. Maynard’s voice is so unique and recognizable. One of my favorite bands of all time!
Okay so... I officially need "Tha f*ck is THIS!?" merch, lol. Specifically on a mug please 🤣
Yes!!!!
Yes!!!
Schism is an awesome tune, just takes a few listens. Their times are weird, not always a typical 4/4. Give it a chance, trust me, some of the best music gets better with each listen.
They do a bunch of stuff with the fibonacci sequence too. Definitely adds more layers than just words
"Which time signature is this in?" "All of them."
I love the lyrics of Schism
@@boogalo781 I think you're thinking of Lateralus
@@JessesanMan that's the song I had in mind
You should have started out with The Pot. Its the gateway drug to Tool. Schism is like dropping off a grade school kid in a Calculus class. You are into the lyrics and the change ups you will dig it. You cant do the head bob because they change time signatures all the time. And also Maynard is the frontman for 2 other bands and they each have 4 or 5 albums.
Ha ha ha, I love this comment because it reminds me of my favorite TV show The Venture Bros. when a father is trying to introduce his son to prog rock and he's like "whoa, no King Crimson. You're not ready for that yet" lol.
@@AuspexAO End of your comment made me choke on my coffee god damn you lmfao.
It’s like getting into Radiohead by way of Pyramid Song. It’s not a bad song, but it is not a good representation of the catalog.
You're not wrong. But he should listen to hooker with a penis. Just sayin.
It's about a fan interaction. Rob would love it.
Tool is a very instrumental band and the lyrics are well thought out. I’ve listened to them for years one of my favorite songs is right in two.
This right here. This is a very good footnote for ANYONE getting into Tool.
I have yet to see a more accurate description of their music. You can't appreciate Schism without everything that comes before it
Or at least go album by album. Might be better to draw someone in with “The Pot” and 10,000 Days and either jump to Fear Innoculum or work back to Lateralus then Aenima etc
Absolutely agree!
Kangaroo court - the result is inevitable - decided before a jury even heard the facts.
Bro, you're like one of 8 people on earth that can knod their head to an entire Tool song without getting lost.
Tool is so unique, I'm 49 and will always love them... I saw you in the trance that every fan gets watching this review, you are a fan now!!!
Going from Schism reaction to this
The song that put them on the map back in the day is Sober from the Undertow album.
💯
I started my journey through Vicarious, as my dad was learning it on guitar, now I seek to learn it on bass
Glad you like it Rob! Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer are all fronted by Maynard. All different sounds, but collectively the best bands ever!!
Oh he would dig A Perfect Circle as well.
I prefer Puscifer over A Perfect Circle; it’s more straightforward rock and fun.
@@jeffus yeah I like that there is no particular sound they have it’s just whatever floats their boats at that period and time of making songs.
A Perfect Circle is so good, took me years to realize it was fronted by Maynard
Since you have listened to this song, you owe it to yourself to revisit Schism in the future. Tool are definitely progressive rock(complex rhythm and time signature changes) Maynard is definitely an awesome lyricist. The whole band is crazy talented. Its a rabbit hole getting into this band. Cheers
I feel so validated. Everything I love, you have loved. Everything I hate, you have hated lol. This is my favorite Tool song of all time. I’m not really a fan of the band in general but this song slayed me and it’s on my playlists regularly almost 20 years later.
So glad you gave them another chance. The ultimate diss track is Aenima. You gotta check that out for real
I agree with the Aenima call, so good.
Agreed. Aenima is a perfect song
I'd actually say HWAP is their ultimate diss track...lol
Yeah HWAP disses Hard! So too does Anima though.... it's tough to say which burns hotter.
If you want more Maynard Keenan try one of his other bands. A Perfect Circle. Start with the song "Judith". Young woman named Paz Lenchantin lays down one of the best bass tracks I have ever heard in this song
Agree with this 100%. Please do a reaction video for this!!
Tool is one of a kind. There isn’t really any other band like them, unfortunately. They’re my all time favorite band.
they are the pink floyd of metal
@@makebadchoices Exactly!
Tool was actually influenced by King Crimson which was an earlier progressive rock band. Tool made it a little heavier though.
Look up Rishloo, Porcupine Tree, and The Pineapple Thief. Just a few bands that sound a lot like Tool. 🍻
You should listen to the mars volta if you havent its prog metal like tool
Fun Fact about Tool's guitarist Adam Jones:
Jones was offered a film scholarship but declined and chose to move to Los Angeles to study art and sculpture.
TOOL IS DEM BOYZ...
Each of the 4 is super talented at their job.
They put more into every song than most can get on a double album.
RIP Jay Briscoe
Tool is one of the few bands I listen to regularly that can still give chills when I needed to hear the song.
Tool is one of the greatest bands of all time, hands down. They're easily top 3 in terms of talent and catalog.
EZ Top 10!❤
@@tnightwolf #1
Agreed. I’ve seen them 10 times ( I’m kinda a huge fan) they are ridiculously good. Live performances are incredible.
This is progressive metal (Style of music).
Check out the drum cam Of Danny Carey doing the song Pneuma.
Crazy. Schism is one of favorite songs of all time.🤣
10,000 Days is a good album to meet Tool with. Jambi, The Pot, Vicarious excellent for interesting beats and Maynard's lyrics are always quality.
honestly my first album was Aenima. i always thought it was a great introduction to actually diving in. I mean i had heard undertow prior, but only bits and pieces. and none of opiate at that point
Rob! If you do more Tool and want something with some biting lyrics, I recommend "Aenema" "Hooker With A P****" or "Ticks and Leeches" (though that one has an extended "jam" you might not dig)
IF you want to have your MIND BLOWN, "Lateralus" or "The Grudge"
And if you want to take a deep dive, do "Parabol" and "Parabola" back to back.
I totally second the parabol/parabola combo. I’d also love to see a Rosetta Stoned reaction
Hooker with a penis is a bad ass song
Interesting fact, Maynard James Keenan, the vocalist for Tool, also collab'd on a track with RATM on their debut album, which is a song I'd put on the listen list if you haven't already. The track is called "Know Your Enemy"
Came here to say this. It's such a killer song. Two of the best bands, and those talented folks had connections despite differing genres, cross-pollination at its best. Both really made the 90s for me.
please, please, PLEASE react to their songs in somewhat of a chronological order (at least on camera), then revisit Schism once you get to that album.
Def check out the live version of Pneuma. Danny’s drum kit will blow your mind. Total GOAT drummer.
You should check out 'one armed scissor ' by 'at the drive in'.
This has got your lyrics and musical switches that you are into.
He ain't ready for that tune lol
Relationship of command is a great album
Highly recommend having the lyrics up. Adds so much more depth to the journey. Maynard is both an instrument and a guide through the song. Embrace it, and you'll have a band that gives you more every time you listen.
I’d recommend checking out “Vicarious”. A slightly different style than The Pot but on the same album, and it’s my 2nd favourite Tool song (this being the first)
You should see Tool live, best concert I've even seen hands down.
The "it's like watching a master at work" analogy is a perfect way to describe it. You may not always understand, but either way it's mesmerizing.
If he's getting into Prog and guitars, lets put a spin on the white people music series and introduce him to Animals As Leaders. Get some Tobin Abasi into his life!
@@thewarhamster8139
Not much into Animals as Leaders, but they sometimes appear in my shuffle and I can immediately tell it's them - quite a distinct sound they have.
I’ve seen Perfect Circle live. They sound as good in person as on the Album. Maynard is an amazing singer. Also, give Sober a listen.
Tool stuff can be very varied and quite challenging musically. I think "the pot"is one most people appreciate right away. Glad you liked, I think they're one of the most interesting bands still playing out there, so unique.
Vicarious next, definately 🤟🤟
And sober. If ur going thru addiction that mf will put a tear in ur eye
I love the immediate turn around on tool! Lol the honesty is palpable. Love these reactions! I'm watching all of these.
you honest. This was so fun and interesting to watch, hear your commentary
Most of Maynards lyrics are phenomenal. Schism is a good tune just give it a listen after you've heard a few other tool songs. Aenima if you want some crazy lyric content.
Try Sober
If he couldn’t handle Schism there’s no chance he could handle 10000 days at this point. He needs a Tool frame of reference before going there.
You enjoying this one has me rolling. This is why your reaction to Schism was so hilarious to everyone, because Tool truly has some crazy, amazing music. But yeah, it's way different.
Bro, the singer from this band was singing with rage against the machine in "Know Your Enemy".
I do Sober at karaoke when I'm not in the best of moods and it leaves me and the whole room crying in our drinks every time 🖤🖤🖤
Every Tool song is not for everybody...but there is a Tool song out there for everybody! Do What Thou Wilt, all you stars out there...
This ❤👏
Hey Rob found your channel through your Chop Suey video and I just wanna say I really enjoy your reactions and your honest reviews. Was cool to see you give this song a chance and love it especially coming off of Schism. All the best man
I love that you're doing this series. Your reactions are exactly the reason why I never restrict myself to one style of music. There so much good to be had in every genre. Keep it going!
I love your reaction so much. Tool is my favourite band and is so excited to see someone who enjoy at this point this kind of music
Maynard is a beast. Fronts 3 bands, and has a winery. Tool is an experience. They have evolved over the last 3 decades. Danny Carey is one of the best drummers of all time. Their sound is going to be very different depending on which album and which decade it's from. They have so many great songs, though.
You forgot his BJJ gyms as well
Tool can be a tough listen, especially the first time when the boys are throwing all this shit at you at supersonic speeds.
Fear Inoculum improves with each listen.
@@ilikeutubejustfine It's intimidating, and I've also got poor short term memory from an injury. Haven't quite wrapped my head around it yet .
@@zburnham that makes sense.
I loved learning the drum parts to the album. It took me so many listens to figure out the timing but now that I do know the songs, it's obvious that the album is a work of art.
It's called prog rock, or progressive rock but in my mind, they are their own genre. Most talented group, been that way for a long time.
Some of their more ambient tracks are post-metal sounding. I've died on a hill saying that Ænima is a great post-metal album (I'm ready to fight)
My favorite album, by far
They are their own genre
I've seen people react to Tool and ask "what time signature is that?" Simple. All of them.
If he likes grooves, I'm really curious how he'd react to Gojira :D
This is probably the most accessible tool song. You should do more. I'm confident you'll even come around to schism again. It's somewhat difficult to get used to the odd time signatures and switch ups if you've not listened to alot of similar.
I also love the lyrics of this one, so many double entendres
You're bringing me back to the best of times that fueled me to start playing music. Back when real music was on real radio!!
"Is this alt rock shit? What is this considered?"
We all ask that man, we all do
Tool will grow on you if you give them a chance.
Talk about fire 🔥
there's an old saying in the metal/rock circle "Tool is your favorite artist's favorite artist"
they are pretty legendary and have arguably never released a bad record. they play with time signatures and polyrhythms (Danny Carey is the best drummer alive and its not close) like nobody else, Maynard's lyricism, vocal range and body of work (check out A Perfect Circle and Puscifer) is the stuff of myth.
Melvins are your artists favorite artists.
The song is about judges who put others in jail while they're doing the same, if not worse, things.
wow - what do they sound like - something that no one has said - i call them: MYSTIC METAL
Happy you enjoyed this one. And finished it lol 🖤

Tool is a music experience and that what sets them apart imo. You go on a journey and it is magical and haunting all at once.
Im kinda floored that more rappers dont sample this song. Every god damn mf moment of the song could be sampled in endless ways. When this song came out was a huge turning point in my life. Huge nostalgia vibes.
"Eye-hole deep in muddy water" is still one of my favorite lines ever written.
Rage against the machine

Trust it's worth it!
schism definitely not a great song to get introduced to Tool with, a lot of their stuff is super experimental and not the easiest to listen to. if this was more up your alley I would recommend Vicarious, Lateralus, Sober, and Forty Six & 2
Lateralus is my favorite and this is my 2nd. Schism is still a decent song but agree is not their greatest.
Definitely give Lateralus a listen incredible breakdown towards the end and the Bass player goes off. Absolute GOLD
"Schism was ass" hahahahaha i love the emotion from that line
