Fred Lee well, different people learn differently. some learn better with diagrams and decorations in their notes, and some learn better by keeping their notes simple; without decorating them. of course, it’s not wrong if you like adding extra diagrams or this and that in your notes, if that works for you. some people just prefer a simpler note taking system. this is just my opinion, but i think aesthetic looking notes on social medias are overly hyped (not to mention they can be very time and money consuming) and it became such a huge influence towards others to do the same, even though it may not work for them. i’ll take myself as an example; i used to love looking at aesthetically pleasing notes on social medias and it made me want to do the same, which i did. until i realized what i was doing just defeats the purpose of note-taking; i was making aesthetic looking notes not to revise with them, but only because i think they’re pretty to look at and fun to do. what i mean is that, aesthetic looking notes doesn’t necessarily work for everyone. but if pretty and aesthetic notes with many diagrams and decorations work for you, then good, carry on.

Fred Lee I think that if you wanna do that while revising your note fine good for you, but my teacher isn’t gonna wait for me to take out my different colored gel pens and washi tape and brush pens and stickers etc, no he’s gonna move onto the next slide. I think the notes are really pretty and fun to look at, but it’s very hard to do in class, although I’ve seen ppl do some really cool stuff with pen pals and I wanna try that out, but that’s just my two sense.

    Subjects Discussed:
•writing notes for 1 class per batch of pages (keep notes separate for classes)
•reference classes easily by noting the class at the top and put down the date
•write with only 1 color (you can write your notes with 1 color pen, then when revising, you can use color to pick out key points and make them look nicer) (going back in with color when revising will help with active writing)
•indent topics (general notes on left, more specific details are in indented form)
•write on blank paper (note: Cornell Notes are good for revising, but very time consuming when writing notes)
Thank you, Mariana! I love your videos and you inspire me

I also did very # aesthetic notes. But as I’m going to high school, I realized it’s like the worst thing you can do to yourself. I mean I used to have tons of pens and markers on my desk in school, and I sure didn’t write something down during changing pens. Like literally, switching pens is the worst thing. My notes are like pretty much same as yours. I absolutely love this video, and I also love you. Thank you for everything. 💘

Parijat i do that.... I’ve never posted my notes.... I’m doing that bc when I put effort into my notes I actually use them, bc I think it would be a waste otherwise ( other people can just do it but I need motivation 4 it, everyones different. Which is also the reason everyone does it in a different way)
If u don’t like it that’s fine but how about u don’t put people down that do it... it’s unnecessary
I don’t do fancy stuff that’s unnecessary (like washi tape, I do coloured titles... but with a system 4 example that economics is blue... so it’s not unuseful 4 me)
Anyways my point is... if u dont do it it’s fine but how about not badmouthing it?

I’m about to graduate from university and this is my advice:
I like to only go once or twice over my notes: one for slowly reading, understanding, highlighting and noting extra stuff and another one just very quick before the exam. Always take side notes while studying notes! Even if it’s just an index or just key words or formulas, it helps you stay focused and keeps you from getting bored fast.
If i just passively read already highlighted notes without writing anything i get SO bored so fast and its not really productive for me!
    Good luck everyone

Oof- why are all the comments hating on the "pretty, slow, aesthetic" kind of time consuming technique just because they like this one better their both great if you like this one that's ok but the others who take time on their notes...well take time on their notes and the videos they make help them make money. I myself am a little bit of a perfectionist so I like pretty notes, because it makes me want to study and doesn't make me cringe at my messy handwriting. But I use this video's method for when I'm in class, because as we all have seen it saves time and it's simple. But everyone chill and get along :)

    • @safala
      @safala 3 роки тому +16

Yes! I don’t get why people are getting so hateful towards the colorful notes. I love those notes as well but that has more to do with how I process information than anything else. Pretty colorful notes motivate me to study and actually retain the information. This note taking method is good, don’t get me wrong, but for me it’s just a huge block of text rather than legible study material that I can remember.

    • @georgeforemangrills8104

@@TurtleDuck7060 I agree. Normally, what I do, is I take some short, messy notes that get the job done on a piece of plain notebook paper with a pencil. After school is when I take out my higher-quality graph paper and fancier pens to re-write my notes to look more presentable and easier to read.

I can't count how many videos are similar to this where I feel honestly the REAL objective is to 'inspire' rather than adding anything new. It's already a given that you need to write in one color to save time, highlight during revision and indent. Unless you've never taken a single note in your life you might find it enlightening. I think the ONLY reference that I can think of that really added something new to 'note taking' was a book I read waaaaaay back when I was in college called What Smart Students Know by Adam Robinson. That book was practical to the point where it actually went deep into 'how' you actually take note, how do you digest the information in order to rephrase it to make it easier to write, remember and then retrieve. It wasn't dealing with note-taking on the surface.
Having said that, your videos are always inspiring. So great job.

That’s how I’m writing my notes since begining of high school, only I use lined paper and underline in slower parts of lecture (if they exist, some lectures are really intense so I underline at home)
Also I used to use 6 colors, 1 for title (new topic), 1 for subtitle, 1 for important terms, 1 for numbers (constansts in science classes, years in history, any numbers in geography etc), 1 for title “practice”, 1 for homework
It worked really well, but now I prefer to use 1 color per subject, but I have skinny and thick marker of each color, so I use thick one for titles, subtitles and most important terms, and skinny for other important info

I annotated my questions & concerns in a different colour, or box it in the right corner. Id get back to it during consultation or develop it into a theme for essay.
I specifically used red pen during revision. It helps me remember better.
And bcs i did literature for my undergrad, i always drew mind maps for all the texts i read. It helps to ground the issues related to them. Pretty useful to refer when you have 10 assigned novels per semester 😂

I do have a comment about your take on the Cornell method:
The left column is often used differently by different people. The way I use it is to for repetition and quiz practice. I take my notes in class only in the main note section. Then, after class when I study, I create questions in the left column and I write them next to where on the page I can find the answer in my notes. Then, when I study again, to increase repetitions and thereby increase my level of retention of the information, I write the summary so that when I review my notes, I have a quick description of the main ideas.

Adore these minimalistic notes , so aesthetically pleasing and really does seem like it saves time. I myself am guilty of pen change and making them pretty and it takes me an hour to do one topic which should take 20 minutes

    sounds good...
the point is I really need grid/lined paper. I prefer grid.
But I think it's an amazing way of note-taking. Simple, and effective. Plus you won't spend tons of money on cute stationery.

Through out my life I used two pens...one for heading and other for main note. This way I can easily skim through topics. And I agree it takes time to change pens during class. But using one can be effective too as I can see we underline your heading more or less.
On the flip side you started using blank pages now. And I decided to ditch blank pages and bought a ruled copy instead. I realised I waste a lot of paper because in the way to make notes readable I give too much gap between lines. I don't know how it will work out but I am going to give it a try

i used to use one highlighter and one black pen. i recently added a thicker pen (for key terms) and a thinner pen (for writing in general). writing in abbreviations and separating texts context wise has worked the best for me. not only is it easy for me to find something im looking for, but i also remember most of the notes without having to look.

I take my notes in the same way! In black pen. I do use highlighters, but just 1 color/topic. For example green for economie, pink for management and so on. It helps me visualise :)

Hello ! I just wanted to thank you for your advices regarding studies I really love your videos. (I put them like twice each time I want to see them again) because they inspire me A LOT! You are by far the BEST source of inspiration and organization and so on.. I also really liked your social media and Web site before but since like 2 weeks I can't access anything of it. Anyways. Please keep making videos. ( sorry for the mistakes, I'm French 😊) have a nice week 😙😙

Although I have gone completely paperless in my 2nd year of UNI, drawing principles from Ali Abdaal, Alicia from Studycollab, etc., I can still appreciate this style of notetaking. Doodling, caligraphy, highlights, although not evil by any means, theyre very inefficient. I love the minimalism of this notetaking system.

I love the way you do this I don’t have hundreds of fancy pens I have simple erasable pens and only use 4 colors for my subjects ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies. Organize by subject in those subjects on my paper in my journal then highlight information that will be key answers to my end of unit tests and things I need to remember to be able to understanding the next unit. Slightly complicated but works for me, and easy enough for my friends to understand if they need me to show/help them with homework

This is very similar to the note-taking system I used back in high school, and I had pretty good grades at the time. Recently I discovered the studygram and studytube world and saw the beautiful notes people were taking and I thought to me "ok, let's try this". I tried writing in two columns as I saw a lot here. It saved a lot of space and looked really pretty but it was inefficient, I was unable to get a decent mark. So I went back to this note-taking system and guess what? Much better. Better having minimal and efficient notes than "aesthetic" and "too tight" notes only to save space. The only "aesthetic" thing I do is writing the subject name in lettering. The rest is pretty much the same as you do. Great job Mariana, you are in no doubt the BEST studytuber here.

Ps: I still love using post it when I need to write down references in books, or just examples and comments.

Sometimes simple is better for productivity! I agree with you, changing pens for color coding takes too much time, especially when in class! I do something similar to you, write all my notes in one color and then highlight or underline when reading them again, it works better for me too.
