  • First of all, the first tip is to pick a notebook that is pleasing to the eye, efficient and sturdy enough to hold all of your notes, for a long time. I picked a single notebook for all of my semester's notes. The notebook I picked is a Moleskine Pro A4 notebook with dotted pages and it has two key features that make it so functional for notetaking - numbered pages and a table of contents. Since I am using a notebook for all of my classes, it was very important for me to be able to number the pages and index the different class topics and subjects in a table of contents and the fact that this notebook already has these two components make my job much easier. Although this doesn't count as a tip for the note taking in itself, it is definitely a big part of the organization of my notes and I suggest you to apply the same concept in all of your notebooks.
The second tip is to use two columns instead of writing across the whole page. It allows me to have much more flexibility when taking notes during class, since I am never able to fully anticipate the lecturer's speech. The fact that I can write horizontally in two different spots allows me to add comments, examples and corrections instead of having to worry about cramping all the information I am hearing into the same space. The way you use this method is really up to you, but I think you should try it out at least for one day.
The third tip is to use color but with caution. As a rule, I only use two colored pens for each set of notes. On the other side, using only two pens makes note taking in itself much more efficient, since I don't need to lose time choosing between too many different colors when I should really be paying attention to class.
The fourth tip is to learn how to arrange the space in the pages of your notebook. If you are using your class notebook as a transitional source of information, like if you are going to rewrite all of your notes when you get home, this might not be a problem. However, if you are thinking of your notebook as the ultimate source of information when studying for an exam, it will be important to think of your handwriting and, most of all, of how you arrange the space in the page. If you want to use the column method, sometimes you will not have information to add in the second column. Although this can leave a blank portion in the page that you desperately want to fill in, leave the blank space in there. This can be beneficial for two reasons: first of all, your page will look cleaner and reviewing for a test or exam will be much easier if you give your eyes an easier time looking for specific information. Secondly, allowing yourself for some blank space between notes also lets you write your own personal comments in between in future study sessions, something that I highly suggest if you are into active reading.
Finally, learn how to efficiently cover up mistakes. Tons of people ask me how I am able to take notes without ever making mistakes. Well, since I am currently taking English courses and my first language is Portuguese, believe me when I say that I make mistakes, and a quite a few of them, actually. However, since I am the only one reading my own notes, if I make any grammar or vocabulary mistakes, I will either leave the word as it is, as it will not compromise my learning of the subject, or I will rewrite it in front of the wrong word and underline it. If my mistake compromises my knowledge on the topic if I read it in the future, as if I wrote down wrong information, I will strike it through as neatly as I can. Overall, this will result in notes as spotless as they can be, and it will not make a difference at all.

it's impossible to have a "naturally ugly" handwriting! you should plactice and develop muscle memory by writing really slow. also, look up inspirations on pinterest. it's really helpful! I've been writing with an illegible handwriting for 8 years and now, after slowly writing and practicing for 2 months, my handwriting is super cute and kinda similar to Mariana's. go girl, I believe in you! if you practice slow writing a lot, you will quickly get the hang of it and you will write quickly and beautifully effortlessly!

This is so unique! I love it! If my teacher has PowerPoints online or follow the text book really well, I prefer to take my notes at home and at my own pace. While in class I'll jot down certain things that may be important. (ie formulas, key terms, outlines, ect) so it won't look like I'm just sitting there, but won't go into detail since some teachers just move too fast for my note taking

I really enjoy watching your videos. In this video you mentioned learning English, which I have noticed because you are practicing English in these videos. It is great you are practicing, what I would recommend is to try to speak more say more things without being afraid of making a pronunciation or grammar mistake. No one will probably screw you for sounding wrong. As it is, I was learning Portuguese last summer, which I really enjoy, even though I am not a Portuguese speaker I can understand it. Also I have seen your Japanese pens, they are so cute. Any way I am also learning Japanese and seeing your pens made me keep watching your videos. Are you learning Japanese?

They've even gone online to try and find the "font" that you're using. It was a big to-do. They even tried to say that you printed out your notes using the "font" you downloaded and then had the notes bound in a moleskin book cover. I, then, showed them several of your other videos of note taking and organization, especially the one using the iPad. It still did not end the discourse. Therefore, I told them that I'd write you to ask if you'd do a quick handwriting video to show your unique style of writing and note taking. Btw, it has inspired me immensely. Thanks in advance!

so I recommend that you use a larger notebook to do it in and write smaller (if possible)

I just have to ask...do you ever make a mistake in your note? I see not scratch outs or white outs, etc. And how you keep it all so neat when taking notes in a lecture is beyond me. Impressive.

How to you take notes during class and at the same time change your pen color to write the important things since you don’t know what is going to be important when the teacher says it? I also have to hurry to keep up with taking my notes so also changing my pens to highlight stuff is too difficult

    • @ryanpaterson1579

I don’t know how she does it but for me I know that typing my notes in class takes away that issue, then writing them out at home can mean I know what I’m dealing with. As well as this, I record the lecture so that I don’t miss anything out. Personally, I find typing class notes then rewriting them helps me remember, as well as using a notebook for any additional studying or research I’ve done

You could get a multi pen, that is, a pen with different colors in it. I used to love using those when i had them.

    • @justjazdraws2183
      @justjazdraws2183 5 років тому

Typically I just... know when something is important 😂 a lot of the time the teacher would put an emphasis or a reminder to a certain point. On top of that if you have reading for the class and u can read ahead, write down what you find important, and then take notes from the class. Idk I think it’s like finding your style! ~

how do you take all your notes in one notebook? does all your classes relate to one another? I understand you have a table of contents but I don't think that would be enough for me, organization-wise. Thanks for the column and two pen tips!!

Is there any chance you could provide us with a template of your alphabet?
Just a few rows with all of the letters of the alphabet (capital and small letter) and numbers from 0 to 9? Maybe also the classic "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
    "?
I would LOVE to have my own writing like yours and that template would really help.
Thank you in advance and also keep up the great work you are doing with your blog and YT channel.
