There "Stairway to Heaven" is the best. I saw them in 1972 at an outdoor concert. About 11 PM , rain sent most people home so I was able to get right up to Nancy playing. Fantastic. Also from the 70's Rare Earth playing" I'm losing you. " on Ed Sullivan with 20 ice skaters with colored afros while they play a great song. Very 60's. Great show Thanks.
A rarer track by Heart and is my fav. I think many have forgotten about this tune. Ann's vocals are amazing in this track. Heart - Rockin' Heaven Down. - ua-cam.com/video/MLaboPJctus/v-deo.html
You should react to the live video version of "Sing Child" from Heart's debut album. Roger Fisher plays a brilliant lead guitar and Ann played flute. Like a cross between Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull.
Whenever I hear or read someone say that Ann has one of the best female voices in rock I like to correct them by saying she has one of the best voices man or woman!
It's a dangerous road to go down if you like to be surprised, but there are currently over 80 full-length 1970s episodes of The Midnight Special on UA-cam. The thing about the show was that all the performances were live, as opposed to the lip-synching that these kinds of shows usually did.
It was on from midnight to 1:30. I was just a bit too young to watch it in it's early days. I do remember trying to watch Olvia Newton-John's performance.😂
@@visaman it was past mine, but my mother didn't care. I was the one who had trouble staying awake. I too am an ONJ fan. I recorded the episodes on my tape recorder. I watched it regularly.
❤🎉❤ Wilson sisters, in my youth were goddess factors to us!! Ann's voice "sultry" and Nancy was "wicked good"!! They were above and beyond rocker babes!! 💕 👍👍👍
The TV shows are a double edged sword for bands IMO. They give great exposure to the masses, but bands are always rushed due to time constraints. I recommend the "Crazy On You" concert footage from 1978 because it gives the band room to relax and explore a bit more as they play. "Magic Man" live (1976) would be the next great live concert footage to check out. Ann Wilson has amazing control over her voice making her (IMO) one of rock's finest vocalists. Sister Nancy Wilson is a talented guitarist and can sing pretty well herself. I grew up a fan of Heart back in the 70's. They started out as a progressive rock band. 70's Heart is my favorite. Their first 5 albums are solid. You will find hidden gem after hidden gem within their first 5 studio albums. Heart underwent some line-up changes over time. Their first split with Roger Fisher (guitar) after their 4th album was a huge talent loss due to his unique guitar sound (He and Nancy broke up as a couple). Heart evolved from 70's progressive rock to more of an 80's commercialized pop rock style. Basically, they signed a corporate contract and lost a lot of creative control in the 80's. Heart had some strong hits in the 80's but each album as an entire compilation didn't pack quite the same punch. It was the corporate formula to only concentrate on pushing 2 or 3 "corporate approved" hit songs and the quality of the rest of the album didn't really matter to corporate. The corporate idea = fast produce and pump out great selling albums efficiently rather than crafting complete albums of actual art.
Ann and Nancy have always been sensational live. For some of their best live performances, track down videos from the 2002 Live in Seattle concert which was published on DVD.
I've always been haunted by this song, along with Magic Man. They both transcend mere music and turn into something greater and higher. One of the finest 70's songs without a doubt by one of the greatest American bands of that era, that tended to be dominated by British bands.
You must listen to what I think is their most haunting song that builds and builds to an incredible climax It is from their Dog and Butterfly album and is called Mistral Wind . There is an incredible Live version on on UA-cam - Mistral Wind ( Live in Seattle 2002 ) .This is one the hardcore Heart lovers know is one of their best , although never released as a single . You will thank me later !
The guitar Nancy was playing was an Ovation. It was very popular in the '70s. ELO and other artists used it in their recordings and live performances, and it has a unique, crisp, clean sound. I still have mine.
Their first album (which this song is on) was one of the very best debut albums ever released and is still one of my very favorite favorite albums. This might be my favorite live version of any of their songs.
Agree 100 about Midnight Special. Great vault of live performances. "Barracuda" and the Zep tribute at the Kennedy Center - "Stairway To Heaven" - are standouts. Female rockers were few and far between.
I was at their breakout show October 24 1975 when they opened for Rod Stewart and the Faces at the Montreal Forum! And almost 50 years later I will be at the last show of their current tour at the Bell Centre in Montreal April 2 2025!! 16 days before they get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame April 18 2025!!! On hell of a band live!
Magic Man!!’ Bro!…Ann has an extremely powerful voice and is considered one of the top 3 female voices in rock history!!! Get to know them more.. they are monster legends!!!!!
Love the midnight special one of the best legendary live rock/music shows in TV history. Love this song from Heart. Heart is one of my all-time favorite Rock bands....Heart has influenced a lot of bands and female artists today like Amy Lee of Evanescentce, Lzzy Hale from Halestorm and Pink.
Haha, She is totally a siren. Oh my God I had such a crush on her in Junior high, and my slightly older cousin who lived in Bellevue Washington actually knew them, although they were a couple years older than him. They would come back and jam in the high school music room at lunch, and the word would get out: You better get your ass over to the music room, because the Wilson sisters are here and they're tearing it up. ❤
Awww ❤️ Heart IMO the best female rock band ever. They always entertain. Love this very much. I am so happy to see heart here. Those vocals are insane. There's just so much to love here for all the Band
Ann has fantastic range, although this song doesn't require it. There is a live version of Unchained Melody floating around on UA-cam (audio only) in which Ann's range is on display. Give it a try sometime
I doubt anyone else will recommend it but how about "How Deep It Goes" from the same album as Crazy On You, their debut album? The softer side of Heart. Right there with the title track.
I have seen them about ten times Ann has an incredible voice and Nancy on guitar was inedible but I loved the way they closed their concerts with at least a couple Led Zeppelin songs truly worth seeing
Love the opening guitar, Nancy kills. Another great band that started in Seattle. Ann's voice cuts like a knife. Great picks Maureen, thank you. Love all that you do, Lee. Blessings all. Peace.
@visaman I was counting their start in the 60's, not when they released "Dreamboat" in 1973. Plus living so close to B.C., I've always felt half Canadian, lol.
Great band that's still overlooked. Greatest lead female Hard Rock Rock N Roll band of the 70s imo. The female version of Led Zeppelin if ever there was one.
Hometown music royalty. So lucky to have grown up in Seattle. 🤷♂️😎 Thanks for reaction sir! Not sure if done "Say Hello," but I just love that track. Studio version. 😊
Ann and Nancy both opened the Kennedy Centre with Stairway to Heaven. Ann did a fantastic take on Robert Plant’s vocals. They both have great vocals with operatic octaves in the 6 octave range. Along with Freddy Mercury, Meatloaf to name a few…. Not forgetting Pavarotti.
Ann has the range to go from a sultry whisper to a belt in an instant.I saw this song performed at Cal Jam 2 in 1978 at The Ontario Motor Speedway in Riverside ,Ca. ANN has power . even from a distance ,you felt it.
It was in Ontario CA. I used to live by it. A few years after Cal Jam 2, they tore it down. Now there's a convention center and a bunch of hotels and huge industrial buildings in it's place.
I would like to thank you for leaving a screen large enough to actually see the talent. Nancy was playing the acoustical right beside Ann in the Zeppelin dedication.
The small microphones were considered more modern because microphones were originally as big as a dinner plate. Now they were small and captured sound so well.
An AMAZING video is of the Wilson sisters doing a cover of The Battle Of Evermore live at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame concert inducting Led Zeppelin. In my opinion, it's better than the original!
Both ladies are Heart. Nancy is the blond who plays awesome guitar. Ann is the dark haired power house voice and plays guitar. Ann ran into Robert Plant who told her that she made him cry at the Kennedy Ctr. Band changes.
I saw them on August 16th, 1977, about 3 1/2 months after this broadcast. Let's see, Magic Man, Barracuda, Little Queen, Kick It Out, What About Love, These Dreams (Nancy sings lead), All I Want to Do (Is Make Love to You), to name a few.
You've seen them do the Stairway to Heaven tribute with Led Zep in the audience, yes? (About 40 years after this.) If not, you definitely have to give it a watch.
When Rick Beato did his 20 greatest acoustic intros, this was on it but he wouldn't play it. Nancy refers to it as "Silver Wheels" and it's very difficult to get right. She's up there with Paul Simon as one of the greatest finger style players of Rock and Roll.
We've only done a handful of Heart tracks so if you have another good one like this, I'd be very grateful if you left it here! Thank you!
Magic Man, Barracuda, White Lightning and Wine, Battle of Evermore (Led Zeppelin cover)
"Alone" is my favorite newer Heart & "Magic Man " for the older one😊
A rarer track by Heart and is my fav. I think many have forgotten about this tune. Ann's vocals are amazing in this track. Heart - Rockin' Heaven Down. - ua-cam.com/video/MLaboPJctus/v-deo.html

Ann's voice has a special tonal quality. Kind of a sexiness about it. And then there's that awesome range that she has.
And I love her hard rock music and voice hell yes❤
@@fineasfogg1461
Absolutely Ditto!!!
She has one of the best vocals in Rock n' Roll history. Period.
Amen!
Whenever I hear or read someone say that Ann has one of the best female voices in rock I like to correct them by saying she has one of the best voices man or woman!
Do "Magic Man"
Fantastic! I was drunk in Atlanta GA airport, stuck there for 3 hours, just played Magic Man on a loop and kept drinking 😂
Yes!
Yes
Yes, Nancy was on the acoustic, playing next to Ann during the "Stairway to Heaven" tribute at The Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin

Anne... Dreamboat Annie.... Provocative and powerful. She was perfect. And Nancy was a guitar god.
Ann
Dog and the Butterfly (ballad)
Couldn't agree more! Nancy's voice is magic on this track.
it's "Dog and Butterfly".
I'm going to search for this, I've never heard it before.

Nancy was there playing at the Kennedy Center Honors
I love them ❤ beautiful sisters ❤
Ann Wilson and Pat Benetar are both such strong voices!
Ann and Nancy have always been sensational live. For some of their best live performances, track down videos from the 2002 Live in Seattle concert which was published on DVD.
Amen! IMO, that's their best live album. Ann's truly at the top of her game in that one. I don't know why it gets passed over so much by reactors.
I've always been haunted by this song, along with Magic Man. They both transcend mere music and turn into something greater and higher. One of the finest 70's songs without a doubt by one of the greatest American bands of that era, that tended to be dominated by British bands.
They were so young. So was I. Too bad we can't go back. It was magical.
“Soul of the Sea” is a hidden gem from the same album.
You must listen to what I think is their most haunting song that builds and builds to an incredible climax It is from their Dog and Butterfly album and is called Mistral Wind . I second this request!~ Fantastic song and performance!
@ Thanks 🙏
Barracuda and Alone.
The guitar Nancy was playing was an Ovation. It was very popular in the '70s. ELO and other artists used it in their recordings and live performances, and it has a unique, crisp, clean sound. I still have mine.
You left out the distinctive round back
@ you are right, damn I’m old!
Their first album (which this song is on) was one of the very best debut albums ever released and is still one of my very favorite favorite albums. This might be my favorite live version of any of their songs.
When they started out, people used to ask Nancy if she could actually play that guitar. Yeah, she could. She really could.
Love the kick by Nancy the sexiest guitarist of all time:) Great acoustic work as well this is 1 of my favorite live performances by anyone ever
A favorite sleeper deep cut of mine is "Love Alive" especially live. It just builds and builds.
Agree 100 about Midnight Special. Great vault of live performances.
"Barracuda" and the Zep tribute at the Kennedy Center - "Stairway To Heaven" - are standouts. Female rockers were few and far between.

Heart did the Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin and sang Stairway to heaven. AMAZING!
Magic Man!!’
Bro!…Ann has an extremely powerful voice and is considered one of the top 3 female voices in rock history!!! Get to know them more.. they are monster legends!!!!!
My daughter loves Supernatural. She's constantly calling me in the other room to listen to a song!
Heart is awesome! Her voice is powerful indeed! Great reaction Lee.
My first concert. ‘75-76. A favorite still. ❤ Thank you!
Her voice is wild!
I will come back for this.....one of my all time favorite bands and songs.
Heart❤
Loved Dreamboat Annie as soon as it dropped. Also saw them live in a small gym like venue opening for the Doobies in the mid 70's, fantastic.
The Wilson sisters are criminally underrated
magic man ! by heart
Ann's voice is magic, man! Sorry, I couldn't resist! 😁
Drummer is Michael Derosier.
Haha, She is totally a siren. Oh my God I had such a crush on her in Junior high, and my slightly older cousin who lived in Bellevue Washington actually knew them, although they were a couple years older than him.

I've seen the video of them pretty recently and her voice just gets better and better.
Nancy's guitar solo intro is actually titled "Silver Wheels". Like it does here , it precedes "Crazy on You" on the "Dreamboat Annie" album . 🙂
I doubt anyone else will recommend it but how about "How Deep It Goes" from the same album as Crazy On You, their debut album? The softer side of Heart. Right there with the title track.
Yes
Killer song with beautiful phrasing and melody! Ann can kick your butt, or soothe your soul!!!
Ann plays the flute beautifully on this one.
I have seen them about ten times Ann has an incredible voice and Nancy on guitar was inedible but I loved the way they closed their concerts with at least a couple Led Zeppelin songs truly worth seeing
Watch the Kennedy Space Center their, with both of them, did a tribute for Led Zepplin. Made Robert Plant cry and got a standing ovation.
Thank you, Maureen. It’s nice to see Heart from the ‘70s. It brings back memories. Thank you, Lee.
That was amazing. I wish it was longer 😢
Love the opening guitar, Nancy kills. Another great band that started in Seattle. Ann's voice cuts like a knife. Great picks Maureen, thank you. Love all that you do, Lee. Blessings all. Peace.
They started in Vancouver BC actually. Evading the Vietnam War.
@visaman I was counting their start in the 60's, not when they released "Dreamboat" in 1973. Plus living so close to B.C., I've always felt half Canadian, lol.
An AOR staple. What a freakin' rock band!
I have no recommendations because I am not that familiar with early Heart but I want to hear more!
I've seen them live four times from '77 on. I caught a pick from Nancy at the second one. Yeah.....I'm a super fan.
I would have guessed you did this song before..but here we are!! Nothing like Anne and Nancy!
Ann Wilson, one of the top 2-3 female vocalist's of all time, and she was pretty easy on the eye's back then.🤣🤠👌
Great band that's still overlooked.
What a voice! Still to this day Lee!!
So much talent ... really enjoyed that
Heart is what I listened to as a kid. But usually on the Walkman while walking to school. Up hill one way.
She's playing an Ovation Fibre-glass Guitar very early one beautiful!
Ok, i admit i might have loved that even more today than i ever have before. It was great to finally make a premiere! Lee, you rule!
glad you finally got to this one.
Alone and Magic Man are definitely worthy of reactions.
Ann and Nancy both performed at the Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin. Nancy played acoustic stand next to Ann. 😉
Never Go Wrong With Heart!!
Need to do Magic Man and Barracuda for sure. Sing Child Sing is a cool deeper cut ,funky rocker.
I think you would absolutely love Magic Man.
One of Seattle’s best for sure. Adore Heart ❤
Vancouver actually.
I saw them on this tour. So very good!
Ann has the range to go from a sultry whisper to a belt in an instant.I saw this song performed at Cal Jam 2 in 1978 at The Ontario Motor Speedway in Riverside ,Ca. ANN has power . even from a distance ,you felt it.

This is their best!
Heart - Bebe Le Strange
Heart - Magic Man
Heart - Barracuda
Heart - Straight On
Heart - Even It Up
Did we do Barracuda?
Both Nancy and Ann were at the Kennedy center for the last video you did. ❤
Yea man.
You’ve so got to do the whole of their Dreamboat Annie album. There are classics and there are CLASSICS and that’s one of the latter.
Thanks!
WOOOOOO! ROCK ON BROTHER!! THANK YOU!
I like the way you critique the songs, I saw heart in concert in 1977 in Bloomington,Minnesota. Ann Wilson’s voice is amazing!!!
It really is amazing! I bet that was an incredible show. I’m jealous haha
Fun trivia....the Wilson sisters and Jimi Hendrix attended the same high school in Seattle.
It's an Ovation. Also love seeing a Travis Bean LP copy!
The small microphones were considered more modern because microphones were originally as big as a dinner plate. Now they were small and captured sound so well.
Yes you know it's live when they actually sing INTO the microphone!
Barracuda and Magic Man are their 2 most famous 70's songs
It would be great to do the Dreamboat Annie entire album. The songs flow along with each other. Anne’s voice is pure power.
An AMAZING video is of the Wilson sisters doing a cover of The Battle Of Evermore live at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame concert inducting Led Zeppelin. In my opinion, it's better than the original!
The other must-hear Heart songs I can think of are Barracuda and Magic Man.
Barracuda and Even it Up Rule!
"Even It Up, "Dreamboat Annie" (first album)
Both ladies are Heart. Nancy is the blond who plays awesome guitar. Ann is the dark haired power house voice and plays guitar. Ann ran into Robert Plant who told her that she made him cry at the Kennedy Ctr. Band changes.
HEART - Magic Man (1976), Best live version.
Hi Olias
I saw them on August 16th, 1977, about 3 1/2 months after this broadcast.
Let's see, Magic Man, Barracuda, Little Queen, Kick It Out, What About Love, These Dreams (Nancy sings lead), All I Want to Do (Is Make Love to You), to name a few.
"Never," ""Alone"
Magic Man live (early Heart)…Fire!’
You've seen them do the Stairway to Heaven tribute with Led Zep in the audience, yes? (About 40 years after this.) If not, you definitely have to give it a watch.
James Ito's mother blew up my stereo at a party in Chicago.. 1994? I think... ha
Yo!
Just discovered you. Love the content 🙌
