You missed Stevie’s intro comment when the song started, saying that Rhiannon is “an old Welsh witch.” Rhiannon was a Celtic fertility goddess.

Rhiannon "Welsh mare horse goddess Rhiannon", its' a very long mythology story. Part of the story is she was punished for something she did not do, and her punishment was to 'stand guard at the castle entrance and to "carry anyone who wanted to enter on her back..she was also punished for falling in love with "a human".. Rhiannon was always surrounded by "three birds"..

Not entirely accurate. Stevie called Prince and asked him to help her write a song. She was inspired by "Little Red Corvette". He came by and wrote "Stand Back in 15 minutes and she said he walked out of her life forever. She also said it was one of the most magical things she'd ever seen. She wrote the whole story and included it along with her cd.

😂 She “sang lead on some of their songs”. Uh, at a MINIMUM, Christine wrote/sang lead on at least 1/3 of each Fleetwood Mac albums songs. There isn’t a single Mac album with this lineup where Stevie had more songs than either Christine or Lindsey. TBF, you never claimed otherwise, but too many routinely dismiss or minimize Christine’s role - as if she was primarily just a keyboardist (backing Stevie, like the other unmentioned band members) and occasionally wrote/sang songs (perhaps to give “lead singer” Stevie a break so she could dart backstage to change, take a bath or “other stuff”! 😂 Christine also coincidentally wrote about a dozen top 40 hits for the band. Not bad for “that other woman”. 😮😅

Rhiannon - Welsh goddess, in fact 'Rhiannon' means goddess. Mythology has it that she chose a human over a god as her lover.
Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen
    Woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
    Will you ever win?
She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is to darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless
All your life you've never seen
    Woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?

"This is a story about an old Welsh witch..." are the words Stevie Nicks said right before she started singing.
She wrote the song herself, inspired by a novel she had just finished reading.
This the first public performance, the unveiling, of Stevie Nicks and her boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham (in the blouse you loved), after they joined Fleetwood Mac together. This is one of those unusual instances, in my opinion, where the live performance far outshines the studio version of the song, even before considering the visuals. I never listen to the studio version of Rhiannon -- only this particular live performance.

@@frankingenito Well, Christine had a very good point though. 2 women feuding makes for drama and pressure that 2 men don't. 2 guys may disagree, but can (usually) still find a way to work together for the benefit of the group as a whole, but two women? They literally can't hold it together and keep their lips shut, especially when in a highly personal creative environment like music. As a musician myself I understand how powerful it is and how personal an experience it can be. Men and women DO think differently from the most fundamental ways up to high consciousness. We experience life differently so we react differently. It's literally hard wired into us. Can you imagine what a cat fight it would have been between those two powerful, talented and independent women if they had begun fighting? I am STILL amazed that Lyndsay came out of that with his testes intact after he screwed around on Stevie. I never did hear WHY Chris and John split, but figured they had their reasons and who am I to question someone else's life when I don't have a clue about what has been going on. I know that it got ugly at times between the members of both couples and that's what led to their periodic "times off from the group". Thankfully they were all able to find a way to get past it and work together, but it couldn't have been easy. Too bad Lyndsay just kept pushing boundaries (with everyone, not just Stevie) until it all came off the wheels. I mean, have you ever REALLY watched the live version of Silver Spring and noticed some of the looks that Stevie gives him? Talk about "if looks could kill". Wow

Rhiannon was a Welsh witch burned at the stake by "helpful" Christians (the smoke 'taken by the wind'). The story then elevated her to goddess status, because she actually helped people, but the lords and the Church continued to denigrate her. Nicks was one of three lead singers- the other two sang backup here... but that was always the case: whoever sang lead, the other two backed up. btw the keys lady (Christine McVie née Perfect) (R.i.P.) had just broken up with the bass player (John McVie, the Mac from their name) and Nicks/ Buckingham (the guitarist/ co-lead singer) also had just split. In 1975 After losing another guitar player, Mick saw Linsey in the studio (a year after the album Buckinham Nicks came out) and asked him to join as a guitar player. He said sure, but my girlfriend Stevie has to join too. So It was Linsey on guitar, Stevie on vocals, Christine McVeigh on Keys, John McCveigh on bass, and Mick Fleetwood on drums. 5 people is not a lot of people in a band. It only looks awkward if you need 5 dancers and a choreographer to help sell a song. This was bare bones musicians doing all the work.

There were several changes before this core Fleetwood Mac had commercial success. Stevie Nicks is lead singer here, the guitarist you mention is Lindsey Buckingham, keyboards is Christina McVie, John McVie played Bass and Mick Fleetwood is on Drums and is the founding member. Rhiannon is a woman's name, actually a witch based on a character in a book Stevie Nicks read.

The original Fleetwood Mac had commercial success...sold a lot of albums, especially in Europe. They didn't have top 40 success much and didn't sell as much as this iteration of the band. Tge original band didn't break apart because of lack of success but mental issues and drugs.

Major teen crush on Stevie. She says Rhiannon was an old Welsh witch. It's kind of a mythical entity in any literature and it's more about Stevie dreaming about stuff with that witch as the premise. Mysterious and full of hope and adventure, it's a theme Stevie returns to often. I saw these guys in 1984, I think. I know Joe Walsh opened for them and he was awesome, as well. You should check him out, too. He formed The James Gang and was with the Eagles when they were at their best, in my opinion. He also has a vast solo career.

Rhiannon is the Welsh goddess of horses, song birds, and the moon. She is Queen of the Fae. She was also the wife of the Welsh king. My pagan practice revolves around Rhiannon and the Goddess Archetype, going back to Sophia in the Sumerian tradition. This song, especially this version, is my hymnal. 🤍🤍

Stevie Nicks is one of the greatest women in rock music.
    Her voice is so sweet.
    Her presence is so ethereal.
    She never needed auto tune.
She never needed to take of her clothes.
    She never needed sensual dances.
    She was always pure talent
    A woman to be admired.

Stevie Nicks, the lead singer in this song, was the writer of this song. Stevie is MAJOR into her "Welsh witch" persona, and Rhiannon personifies this persona. The guitarist, Lindsay Buckingham, was Stevie's lover at one time. The two of them sing in unison in this song. The harmony was with Christy McVie, the keyboardist, who departed this Earth just a few months ago, God rest her soul. There is a LOT you can learn about the members of this band. Their history as a band and as individuals in relationships with one another runs deep. I love that you love them, cuz I love them too. I saw them once live in concert...

In the video for Everywhere, there were a number of other people on stage, but they weren't official members of the band. They were there to fill out the sound for the taping of that event and on tour. The core group consists of the three leads, the bassist, and the drummer. Back in the 1970's it was considered kind of uncool to do that, to have extra people to fill out the sound.

Stevie sang and wrote this song. Notice her vibrato, rare in rock singers. She was Nicks girl friend, but became the lead singer and even writer. Most talented group of their type ever! Mystical and mythical song. Stevie is sort of a latter day Flower Child. Wears wispy clothes. Group reached it's peak when it was fighting and sleeping with each other. Stevie left the group in a few years to go solo, and make hits as duets with other rock greats. Check out Landslide and Edge of Seventeen, of course, covered by many, and now a standard.

Fleetwood Mac started as a 3 piece blues band back in the 60's. The bands name comes from the drummer Mick Fleetwood and the bassist, John McVie, hence Fleetwood Mac. The original lead guitarist Peter Green, named the band, because he said "Fleetwood and McVie were the best rhythm section ever". Then they added 2 more guitarist Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan. The stayed a blues band for a while, then Peter Green left. They hired singer, guitarist, songwriter Bob Welch to take over lead singing and guitar. Finally, a woman named Christine Perfect, opened for the band and then joined them and married John McVie. Spence and Kirwan eventually left the band. The Fleetwood, McVie, McVie, and Welch had a few years together then Welch left to pursue a solo career.
This is when the magic came. Fleetwood heard an album playing while in a recording studio, called Buckingham Nicks. He found out Lindsey Buckingham was the male singer and amazing guitarist and manage to contact Lindsey to offer him a job. Lindsey said "Stevie Nicks (the beautiful blond singer in the video) were a package deal". Mick relented and added them both to the band against his better judgement. Mick said "That was the best mistake I ever made."" Stevie Nicks wrote this song "Rhiannon" and the rest was history. This lineup recorded the Fleetwood Mac album, self titled (also known as the white album) not to be confused for the Beatles album. Then the next album was called "Rumours" the best selling album until Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
The band has changed players many time since, but this is considered the best lineup. Mick Fleetwood (Drums), John McVie (Bass), the late Christine McVie (keyboards, vocals, and a songwriter), Lindsey Buckingham (guitar, vocals, and songwriter), and Stevie Nicks (vocals and songwriter).

This group of 5 was the most successful commercially of the various lineups. The 1st incarnation had a guitar focus and was not commercially motivated. It produce some legendary guitar works. When Lindsey and Stevie left Mick replaced them with 4 people. This group had 3 lead singers and songwriters. Lindsey and Stevie had been a duo and worked together for yrs. There is a video called The Dance which is a reunion of this group after about10 yrs in the 90s. I recommend the whole thing. I knew Stevie and met Lindsey when they lived in Houston fro a few months. They disappeared and they had gone off to Nashville which was their plan. They did a great album called Buckingham Nicks. Then they hooked up with Mick Christine and John.

FM started in 1968. when Stevie and Lindsey joined in the mid 70's, John McVie (Bassist) and Mick Fleetwood (Drums) were the only two members of the original band.
Christine Mcvie (Keys) joined in album number four. The original vocalist and guitarist, Peter Green left after a few albums. Bob Welch did vocals for a few albums and left to become a solo artist. Lindsey Buckingham was asked to join the band when Bob Welch left. He said he would, if they brought Stevie on board as well.
    The rest is history.
Cool touch of history. "Black Magic Woman" was originally a Fleetwood Mac song before Santana had a big hit with it.
{edit} I really hope you react to "Big Love" from the Fleetwood Mac reunion concert called "The Dance". Just him and a guitar and it is mazing.

Hi Britt 👋. I used to love watching the Midnight Special all the time back then. Had crush on Stevie also and loved her hair too. No it wasn't a Farrah Fauset cut. Christine McVie (on piano) was the lead female vocals, then Lindsey Buckingham (lead guitarist) introduced Stevie Nicks to the band, for CM was looking to focus on family and not on full time band. Mick Fleetwood (the drummer) heard her voice and liked it. Said she will be the lead voice and their new sound. And as they say the rest is history. You really should react to more of them also react to Stevie Nick's "Landslide" she has 2 version one when she was still young with FM and the other when she's older and solo. You mignt also react to her with FM singing Dreams" and so much more.❤ God bless you sweetie 🙏 🙂👍❤

Christine McVie (born Christine Perfect) was a highly sought after Blues Keyboard player and singer in England. You picked up on her talent with the Blues. She joined Fleetwood Mac, a well known Blues band with a long history. She married John McVie the band's bassist (also a great musician). What you are looking at is the band's first TV performance with 2 new members, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham (formerly of the duo Buckingham Nicks). It was an experiment. After this performance they skyrocketed and sold millions of records. Christine was not underrated, it's just that the new R&R fans didn't recognize her talent and fame in the music world. But as the song says, love is a state of mind and the two couples brock up and in the process made one of the greatest albums. If you have time you should look up their history. Great job on this and I loved your reactions, not unlike my young daughter's reactions when I showed her this video a few years ago. Thanks.

A little history lesson, London based Fleetwood Mac went through many band mates from the late 60s through early 70s.
But mid 70s, they were looking for a guitarist, and asked Lindsey Buckingham. he agreed on one condition, that Stevie Nicks could join also as a vocalist. but they already had a vocalist in Christie McVie. Lucky for them it all worked out, as the bands next album went straight to #1 in the US. If you could not tell by the invitation, both Lindsey and Stevie were a couple.
Their second album, Rumours stayed at #1 for 31 week, but it was the start of something crazy. 3 couples Fleetwood and his wife, John McVie and Christie McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks all broke up while creating this masterpiece, but vowed to stay together until they finished it. who knew it would be #1 for so long, and every time the band went on stage to perform, they had to endure the breakup madness like nothing happened. They made it work for 3 more albums, but in the early 80s they hit a wall and Lindsey and Stevie both left the band. they would rejoin years later at different intervals but the band already made its impact.

Mic Fleetwood (Drummer) was in the band with John (Bass) and Christie (Keyboards) Mcvie - Later divorced - They wanted Lindsey (Guitar) to join but not Stevie(Vocals) - Lindsays girlfriend at the time. He refused to join without her. They were a couple for quite some time but he was an abusive drug user. Actually they all were but he never seemed to be able to kick it. They seperated numerous times and he was kicked out of the band several times and I think he is still out. -- “It was just a stupid little paperback that I found somewhere at somebody’s house, lying on the couch,” Nicks says more than 40 years on. “It was called Triad [written by Mary Leader] and it was all about this girl who becomes possessed by a spirit named Rhiannon. I read the book, but I was so taken with that name that I thought: ‘I’ve got to write something about this.’ So I sat down at the piano and started this song about a woman that was all involved with these birds and magic.

Fleetwood Mac had many lineups and some great artists who went on to achieve solo success. Most consider this their heyday, with three primary vocalists and songwriters, Stevie Nicks, Linsey Buckingham and the recently departed Christine McVie. Stevie and Lindsey are Americans. The others are Brits.
