Thanks Jamel two new songs, new to ne today, and I love Floyd and Steely Dan! Please react to Nanci Griffith she passed last week and was slept on all her life 💜 also our band Foxzen , Ways Out is a song. No one has heard us much either. Thanks and it was awesome to meet your mom, too!
David Gilmour is a mind blowing, soul bending maestro... he's virtually flawless, and one of the most emotional, melodic guitarists on the planet, ever.
This is the only song they won a Grammy for. It just goes to show what a load of garbage the Grammy's are, that Pink Floyd only ever won once. The album "Dark Side of the Moon" spent 917 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 200, from its release all the way to 1988. It dropped off for a while, and bounced right back on. Greatest band ever, and only one Grammy. It's why nobody pays attention to the Grammy's.
Pink Floyd is so based they dont give a crap about awards, they know what they created and what they stand for. Roger is crushing and I love this guy, he tells it how it is.
Gilmour's haunting guitar sounds but my gawd, Richard Wright on the keyboards! Richard added so much to their music and he wrote this song with Gilmour.
So many chills during this song. I always get mad knowing Pink Floyd's only grammy was for this song. Just more proof that awards don't really mean anything.
As a drummer, it is one of my favorite drum tracks ever. I know, is very straightforward and simple pattern, but it has tons of feel to it. I love how it goes from hats to ride and back to hats, just when the song requires that, and the groove is such a delight thing to play with (heck, even air drum this).
I saw Pink Floyd for the first time at this, their Division Bell album concert at Foxboro Stadium (Mass.) in '94. I didn't want it to end! Flying Pigs and all! It was INCREDIBLE!
Take it from an old guy this was referred to as HEAD music back in my day.Pink floyd is a thinking man's band, and I did alot of thinking in my younger day.
When I really need to relax, unwind, and take a nap, I put on The Endless River. I'm not saying it's bad or boring, it just relaxes me every single time, and puts me in a calm mind set and I drift off to sleep.
I’ve always thought of this song in the literal sense. Marooned on an island, the enormity of the situation setting in, looking around and wondering what the heck I’m going to do.
For the majority of their albums it is best to listen to them as a whole. I do think The Division Bell lacks the flow when compared to the Waters era concept albums. Don't get me wrong though, there's still flow on the DB album and I love this album! I'm not bashing it by any means.
From his more modern stuff I feel like “In any Tongue” and “Girl in the Yellow Dress” are pretty rad. Especially with the official videos. But No Way Out of Here is one of my all time favs!
I didn't mind vibing out with you. It's one of the best "headphones, close your eyes" tracks. I think people will interpret the title with their own definition of Marooned.
Oh yeah. I’ve been waiting on you to do this track. This cuts deep for me. I emigrated to the US when that album came out. This song may be my favorite PF track ever. This moves me to tears. This song is about all of us being one. And we are all marooned on this planet alone in the universe. All we have is each other. You should check out the official video. It’s a masterpiece man.
Pink floyd just Ooze the most intence vibes of nostalgic memories and out of this earth feelings...tripping out to Pink floyd is like dessert for the soul, feels like your being held in Gods hands as your being catapulted to some heavenly paradise with green grass, blue skies with a cool breeze.
Gilmours' guitar playing has made Pink Floyd's music and his solo work......... well, there's only one word I've ever used to describe it and it's 'transcendent' -beyond or above the range of normal or merely physical human experience. So yeah I know what you mean.
The Grammy was indeed for this song, also in the official music video there are scenes of space and a town that was destroyed by the Chernobyl meltdown with some scenes showing the past when people lived there
Please react to more from The Division Bell!! *_High Hopes,_*_ Wearing the Inside Out(Rick Wright), Poles Apart, Keep Talking, Take It Back, What Do You Want From Me, Coming Back To Life, Lost For Words, A Great day For Freedom_ ...Sheeeit, just listen to the entire album!! It's a push play and let it ride type of record. Such a chill, underappreciated album from their catalog
Love that you chose this song, Jamel. In fact, there's an actual official video for it that is quite stunning as a kind of story, and that might be worth reacting to as a video. In the video (which starts with a view of a satellite in orbit--maybe taken from the International Space Station, I don't know for sure) after the drums enter in the song, the setting is in the ruins of the town around Chernobyl, the Soviet nuclear power plant that melted down in 1986. (It's still considered the greatest nuclear disaster in history.) The video is eerie, but also hopeful in a lot of ways. Here's the UA-cam link to it: ua-cam.com/video/P7YMI39sObY/v-deo.html
One of these days is, I think a sequel to Careful with that axe Eugene. Best version to start out with is the studio version with that eerie wind. In fact he should react to them back to back
Your point is well taken. This is a piece you have to ride. A magic carpet held up by Gilmour's strings but kept aloft by Wright's keyboards. Yah, relax and absorb.
This song brings me back 20 years in the past. I'd be at my friend's house and we'd smoke a little you know, and we'd listen to that tune and just get lost in time. Those we're innocent days where we were discovering music, hearing things for the first time. It makes me feel very nostalgic.
@Jeffrey Hinkel give a listen to Sound Chaser by YES and then tell me Steve Howe isn’t on a par with Page. I don’t put Hendrix as THE GOAT because of what he did before he died, I put him there because of what he never had the chance to bless the world with. Hendrix did everything on and with an electric guitar before anyone else did. Wawa pedal, using feed back as a tool/instrument. There ain’t nobody that played guitar in a band of the 70’s and 80’s that doesn’t credit Hendrix as an influence.
I love this song and nobody was doing a reaction... Thank you Jamel!!!! by the way, they made a videoclip, is in Pink Floyd's official channel, watch it if you want, say a lot about marooned, in a international space station, and in pripyat the city near Chernobyl
David Gilmore doesn't shred on the guitar but he does make every note progress so beautifully he is one of the greatest guitarists ever and he doesn't have to shred but glides smoothly from one note to the next
Gilmour's specialty is sustained notes, and note bent in unique ways. Pink Floyd is the best band ever. There's never ever been another like it, but there's many bands that were obviously inspired and influenced by them.
The official Floyd video of this track is far better. It juxtaposes the outer space theme with scenes from Pripyat, the abandoned city near Chernobyl - a very different sense of marooned.
Jamel my favorite PF track is Atom Heart Mother . it's 23:41 and I listen to it every single morning when I shower. Some chants and such but also instrumental. It's part of my being now after 10 plus years of doing this .
Jamell i watched you react to Frampton comes alive AND laughed so hard i cried at your enjoyment . REMEMBER you asked if theres a live version THERE IS BROTHER, Try Frampton comes alive In Detroit City, The video was done like 27 years ago, But its FANTASTIC , You can see him using the talk box tube, Jamel there you go , The song was done ORIGINALY IN 1976 When that ALBUM Came out in the 70s Jamel It was so so huge Most teens had that ALBUM And wore it out
There's a great 25 minute video of a live performance Gilmour does, called "David Gilmour: Guitarist Extraordinaire," where he performs Marooned, Coming Back to Life, and Sorrow.
Jamel, you reacted to this in the only way it is possible to react to it. Beautiful. Definitely best listened to in the dark, lying down, and having partaken of your substance of choice.
I agree with you that it’s not really a reaction song, but I’m so glad you did, because that’s how I discovered it today. One of the most beautiful pieces from Pink Floyd I have ever heard. 58 years old, and I’ve never heard this one before. Thanks Jamel, I appreciate it🙂
I personally like that you DIDN'T listen to this one by yourself, I've never heard this Pink Floyd. Thank you young man. I enjoy your cast all the time. Peace.
Man you finally hit it, I love this song, if you don't like distractions you enjoy it more when he plays it life, it brings it to another level, David Guilmour one of the true Lengend,
David Gilmour uses Digitech's "Whammy" guitar effect pedal a ton in this song (which is different from a whammy bar, also known as a tremolo or vibrato). He mostly uses it for shifting a note up an octave (and back down), which is what causes a lot of the "trailing off" sounds at the end of a phrase. Another player known for its use was Pantera's Dimebag Darrell, although he used it more for quick pitch shifts than the smooth way Gilmour utilizes it.
@Scott Green I was wondering if someone was going to mention the whammy pedal used here. He uses it to perfection imo. Great that you put it out there for everyone!
You had me at Marooned (in your video title). There are live versions of David Gilmore performing this song live. Amazing technique how he gets those super high notes that don’t normally exist on a guitar.
During their 1994 tour, Pink Floyd did two shows in Oslo, Norway and those two shows were the only times they performed Marooned live; it wasnt part of the regular tour set. They played it as a form of protest against Norwegian whaling (the high pitched guitar bends is sort of reminiscent of whale noises, and they also had footage of whales on the backdroop screen I believe), Norway being one of very few countries that hasnt outlawed whaling. I attended one of the shows, at age 14, and it was my first proper introduction to Pink Floyd (I think I had only heard Another Brick In The Wall before then)
David possess the ability to take you from any room, any bed, any office, and desk any sofa and take your spirit through a journey of masterful bliss transport you along a ride you'll never forget.

That all being said I know one of your favorite bands is the Beatles. I don't know if you've done this but I would love to hear your reaction to two songs from the Same album. It demonstrates how many tangents The Beatles actually went off on. The first is Within you ,With out you and the second is Rocky Raccoon. I don't want to give you any more information about the songs. But they are way over 180 degrees apart. Hope you enjoy and peace out.
First and only Grammy won by Pink Floyd. This is an amazing solo from Mr. Gilmour. Well deserved. An Interesting fact about the grammy winning is that this instrumental beat another great one, and it was Leave that Thing alone by Jamel so-far-favorite band, Rush.

David Gilmour is a mind blowing, soul bending maestro... he's virtually flawless, and one of the most emotional, melodic guitarists on the planet, ever.
Put that on his tomb stone when he passes. I hope that aint for another 30 or 40 years.
Some say Gilmour's guitars are plugged into to his heart and Amp.
I saw a quote once that said “Every guitar hopes he gets David Gilmour for Christmas.”
A genius
David SAVED Pink Floyd after Roger Waters left
This is a Gilmour/Wright piece and sounds like it. They were magic together.
Absolutely!
Dave Gilmour is the only person on this planet that can make me cry with his guitar...
He makes that guitar cry with you

I just posted that how come PF only one Grammy despite of the all amazing music they created. Not sure what is the criteria for Grammy’s 😂😂
I'm so proud of you Jamel. You are "getting it". The more Floyd the better.
He already had it
Gilmour and Wright, showing once again how sonically beautiful Pink Floyd could be.
They had it from the time of Syd's dream until current day
Pink Floyd is definitely listen and vibe out music.
Gilmour's haunting guitar sounds but my gawd, Richard Wright on the keyboards! Richard added so much to their music and he wrote this song with Gilmour.
Dude whoever put this request through is takin' you on a RIDE with this one. Deep from the archives. Really glad you just listened.
One of the greatest instrumental of the last period. So emotional, so relaxing, and those notes from David, waouh!
So many chills during this song. I always get mad knowing Pink Floyd's only grammy was for this song. Just more proof that awards don't really mean anything.
@Shaman196I’m able to get high off of this song without taking anything. Life itself is a trip, literally and metaphorically.
As a drummer, it is one of my favorite drum tracks ever. I know, is very straightforward and simple pattern, but it has tons of feel to it. I love how it goes from hats to ride and back to hats, just when the song requires that, and the groove is such a delight thing to play with (heck, even air drum this).

This song won a Grammy for "Best Rock Instrumental Performance." Their audio engineer won a Grammy for The Wall.
You nailed it on Pink Floyd. It's more of a personal experience.

100% turn all the lights off and do whatever it is you do to travel into the void and let this masterpiece melt your entire essence and being.
