This Marooned track - in my opinion - shows how irresponsible and pompous humanity can be. On the one hand we are able to fly into space and send sophisticated objects outside the solar system and on the other hand we behave terribly irresponsibly at home (on Earth) and are able to destroy our planet with modern technology (see Chernobyl - Pripyat). Pink Floyd have always made music that has something to give to every person with common sense. Not only the sound content and not only the lyrical content, but the combination of both together often gives some message or at least a reflection. That's what Pink Floyd have always been brilliant at. They evoke emotions and make you think. And that's not at all obvious in today's music. The lyrics are stunningly shallow and say nothing, the music is machine-like and impersonal. That's why Pink Floyd has been my favourite band for almost fifty years.
This song has a great atmosphere. If you close your eyes during this song, you can imagine being stuck on a space station alone. Marooned. Pink Floyd won a Grammy for this song as best instrumental of 1994. The last half of the song is showing you Chernobyl before and after the meltdown of the nuclear plant.
I find this song best by itself without a video. Just staring off into space, or eyes closed relaxing somewhere quiet listening to this song lifts me off this planet in a way few songs do.
The image or soaring above the Earth let's you brain know that it is OK to mentally roam wherever it wants to on future listenings. Of course, listeners of Pink Floyd at some point figured this out along the way any way.
Hello Romanians 🇷🇴. Good reaction as always. When I saw this video for the first time, at the beginning I didn’t recognize the place but………. later on when I watched those children playing in the playground and related stuff from that past, the abandoned buildings and the ghost town hit me hard in my whole body. Many Cubans in 1985 felt that disaster as your. I witnessed those children at that time. Many of them were placed in a hospital really close to my house. So anyone could see those kids watching the streets through the windows in the morning. They were there for years recovering from the radiations. I really don’t know how many survived, I was so young and for me it was something really new at the moment but later on it was so normal to hear about the Chernobyl victims. If I remember the victims were hospitalized in other Eastern European countries too. But now after almost 40 years those images put tears on my face. How the time flies.
Hello my friends! I've been away on business so haven't checked in for a while. This is another truly remarkable piece by Pink Floyd that takes you to another place, another feeling, another dimension. And you guys get it perfectly! And that;s why I'll always come back to your reviews. No guitarist can move your emotions with a few notes the way David does. So many reactors get no further than saying "oh what a solo", but as I said - you guys GET IT. And that makes me happy
Personally I'm not interested in someone "analyzing " Pink Floyd's music. It's seeing your first "reaction" that is fascinating and nostalgic. Because it takes me back to my first listen. 50 years ago or so. Your "reactions" are sweet and respectful. Don't worry about not finding the right words. Your facial expressions are better than words. I'm looking forward to much more. Thank you.
I think PF won its only Grammy award for this song. It's a great song--with or without the video--and it can sound like being marooned either on the earth, at sea, or in space.
Awards are the yardstick by which we try to measure success and achievement, but they are superfluous in the face of genius like these guys had. Been listening for half a century and I thank the good lord that I lived to experience this.
Don't fight it, don't be frightened of how it makes you feel, just surrender to it and let it fill you. The most beautiful things bring tears to the eyes, sometimes crying is good. I understand about feeling like you want to listen to it alone. Although I enjoy PF in many contexts, I like it best when I have some solitude, maybe just lying on the couch with my eyes closed, or going for a long walk in the woods. Then I can let it carry me far, far away - and deep inside. Shine On!
Best without the video (IMHO), just lying down in a quiet, semi-dark room and good headphones. One of my favorite pieces of guitar music ever!! Cheers for the great reaction!
I think that it is good, that are things in this world……that there are no words for. That we can feel things that are beyond description. I like a comment someone made in another PF reaction….they said, David Gilmore plays with “space” in his solos. Most guitar solos are frantic and busy. They bombard you with high levels of sound and noise, but David plays beautiful notes…..and then gives you space to appreciate them. I love it.
Fat Old Sun live in Gdansk should give u happy feelings, and the solo is one of best imo. In Any Tongue live Pompeii is another of my many favorites, but not happy at all because it's about war. Great reactions today, Thank you.
The second half of the video was filmed in Pripyat, a town of just under 50,000 that was evacuated overnight due to the Chernobyl accident is why everything looks like it was just left there, which it was! If you're from Romania or Poland then you possibly know about where pripyat is? Of course I could be completely wrong!!! One of Pink Floyd's most eerily beautiful songs that they got one of their few Grammys for!!
@@lynnhoffmann247 they had just two nominations with The Wall nominated for album of the year but lost to the Christopher Cross album "Ride Like the wind" which was an okay album but really! Losing with an epic album like The Wall? And of course a total snub with "Dark Side of The Moon" Nominated for nothing! I suppose one Grammy is better than none?
@@jonhenke1504 I agree that they should have received more Grammy awards (my favorite band!), but nominations aren’t the same as receiving them. So your original comment is misleading, as they only received the one. ✌🏼
Dave said that Rick ( Keys ) came to his houseboat studio on the Thames and record must of this one on one day. People asking for "Echoes" at Gdansk but it's longer than 15 minutes, It actually a 2 part song. 1st is about humanity anti-empathy. then there is a part that means the new beginning , 2nd half is a reborn of humanity having empathy so the world can survive. Maybe that would work unless you can do it all
From one of Floyd's best albums, 1994's The Division Bell, their second album recorded without founding member/bass player/singer/writer Roger Waters. All the beauty, without the beast.
comme quoi, on est pas tous du meme avis, un des moins bon pour moi... waters etait l ame creatrice du groupe apres l eviction de barett... reste le genie de gilmour a la guitare mais sans l ame de ce qui a fait PF
I lost a lot of faculties to retain memory. But, there's an article about this song and the images from the video, specifically that swimming pool. I guess the song tries to put you on the mood along with this video on the vanity of life. We see there was once life, and now life has abandoned this particular place. I don't know, maybe it has to do been happy when you were young and the results of what you have done with your life.
Marooned with your wife? You take that back, she's a sweetheart, lol (am teasing) This song was great live, from the Division Bell album that when it was recorded live was called Pulse as you've seen many times.
It's that super high note about a minute in that really opens this one up. Personally, I'd like a bit less treble in the mix, but I still enjoy it. I think you should try 'It's What We Do' from their album, 'The Endless River' (another instrumental). The only other one worth listening on that album (IMO) is 'Louder Than Words'. I'll leave you to research the history to the album.

Watch the video of song "Take it Back" if you cam find it.
Well not the technology, but the implementation of the technology. Like Pink Floyd implemented available technology like no other.
Perfect words “you need more than ears “ ……. That’s so true 👍
Can you imagine actually being in space with Pink Floyd in the headphones! The ultimate trip possibly?
Pink Floyd is like no other band, and David Gilmour is an extraordinary guitarist.

Completely agree, no distractions.👍👍

Sad thought indeed that someone would need an "OK" from a video to allow their mind to feel free.
