    3 Things I learned Being 100lbs Overweight - Thomas DeLauer
    I wanted to be able to address three things that I've learned in my transformation. Three things that are a little bit different from what you might normally think and normally you think, oh I learned that the keto diet can help me lose weight or intermittent fasting can help me lose weight, or this and that. The reality is those things changed my life. They saved my life quite honestly, but you hear about those in every single video that I do.
    I used to sit in my car and just be quiet and be sad and kind of wallow in my own pity simply because it was me and the food and that was it and my relationship with food was superseding every other relationship in my life.
    So the first thing that I learned through my transformation was that I had to come to grips with my denial. They say that perception is reality for a reason, right? It's like whatever you look at with something. However you see something is however you make it. And I realize that once I changed my perception, things could change. But until then, my perception of myself was sad and depressed. I needed to understand what was going on and honestly this is so cliché, but I mean, accepting and understanding that you're in denial is probably the biggest step towards anything.
    The next thing that I've learned or that I couldn't stand okay was that how much intimacy played a role in my healing. when I was overweight, my libido was just garbage. I was destroyed, I had no libido. Now the question was, was my libido down because I was physically unhealthy and didn't have good libido or was my self-esteem so low that I just didn't have libido? The world may never know. I mean, the blood work shows that I was pretty unhealthy and I'm sure that played a role, but I actually like to think that it was more mental than anything. The intimacy, it just allowed me to feel better about myself and then it's perpetual, right? It's again, perception is reality. As you start seeing yourself in a different light, that becomes reality and it just compounds and compounds and compounds until next thing you know, you look down and you're not even the same person.
    Stress causes inflammation. Stress therefore causes you to eat more and the certain kinds of foods or obesity in general triggers inflammation.Inflammation was the root of everything. When you have two neural synapses or two neurons, okay. And there's the synaptic cleft in between them. You got two neurons that are sending a signal to each other. They're communicating. We have so many, just a labyrinth of different neural connections in our body. That's what creates just a network of so many different decisions and thought processes. Think trillions and trillions of these right, that just can dictate which path we go and when there's inflammation in your brain, these neurons can't communicate with each other. Their signal is disrupted literally by inflammation and that's what people don't understand is unhealthy foods and fast food and things like that, we are living in a cesspool of inflammation and we don't make the right decisions.

      Mrsandmom5 watch more of Thomas’ videos, also Dr Berg is good for beginners, he has a channel too. It will be one year in July since I went on the Ketogenic way of eating, I’ve lost 60 lbs, no longer T2 diabetic and my High Blood Pressure issue is resolved. It’s a very doable way of eating and is best combined with Intermittent Fasting. If I can do it, you can, too. I haven’t felt this good in literally decades, good luck!

      Also watch Dr. Ken Berry. I started by cutting out sugar and carbs.i have myself a goal date to have my sugar gone. I was addicted to sugary coffee. Then I did tons of research. Followed many channels. Joined some keto group's on FB. Unfollowed all of them. Too much judgment. I forgave myself when I messed up and started over when I needed to. We are only human.

      @@wtglb I agree, Dr Berg also gives great advice to get healthy. It is not about "diet" it is about changing. And actually pretty easy way to start.
      I have lost 50 lbs in the last 3 months, but that is just how my body works. I gave myself permission to take a while and not fad diet, and after I took that pressure off of me, the weight just started falling off. Doing the right things, eating the right things and not living from cheat day to cheat day, which so many do, making getting healthy just a way to fad diet.
      I eat well, and I eat plenty, I don't count calories, but I do stick to lowest of carbs, no cheating, which not eating carbs makes it easier to not cheat. You don't feel starving because you are not restricting calories to starvation levels.
      I have about 30 more pounds to lose, but I have not weighed myself at all to keep score, I did measurements at the beginning, but now just rely on my clothes getting bigger to tell me that I am doing the right thing eating wise.
      And Thomas is so right, this isn't about a "diet" fad or otherwise, but a good change to living healthy and not starving to do it.

      @@phines9 A generic low carb diet is more similar to an Atkins diet than a ketogenic one. A keto diet is about getting your body into ketosis and staying there for the duration of the diet. A keto diet can be more difficult than a regular low carb diet because you have to constantly monitor if your body is in ketosis, much like how diabetics have to constantly monitor their blood sugar levels. Atkins allows for an unlimited amount of protein while Keto limits it to 20% of your daily intake. Ketosis does happen during the first phases of an Atkins diet, but once you hit phase 3 you can start slowly reintroducing carbs whereas Keto always limits carbs.

      @MrNobody989 4 роки тому +2

      ineedhoez you know you can only lose a certain amount of weight per day depending on your body fat once you pass that amount it’s just water weight and muscle. There is 31.5 calories in 1 pound of fat, if a 300lb person has a 40%body fat he has 120lbs of body fat, you do 120x31.5=3780 calories/body fat, 3780 divided 3500/ amount of calories in 1 pound = 1.08lbs of body fat you can lose per day and that number goes down as you lose more body fat. Another example is 200lb person with 25% = 50lbs of fat, 50x31.5=1575calories, 1575/3500= .45lbs of fat you can lose in a day. I wish you can you lose 1 a day but you just can’t do that without losing muscle mass when you get to those lower BF%

    This is literally who I am right now.. I walk around everyday feeling like a failure... in every aspect of my life. I went from being 200 lbs to around 292 lbs within a span of less than two years.
    The way you describe yourself going to fast food chains where people wont recognize you.. I do that almost every day. If I feel like im going to get recognized at the place Im going today.. ill drive across the city to the same chain of restaurants but, where the employees wont recognize me. That's how embarrassed I am. Its gotten to the point where I don't even look in the mirror anymore, and if I do.. or have to .. I will blur my vision so that I cant really see what I have become. I avoid everyone, and have lost a lot of friends because of this.. because I walk around everyday feeling guilty that I let myself become this person. I know you probably wont see this.. but, you struck a cord with me today.
    This whole video hits home with me in the worst ways. This is me to a tee.
    I'm glad you got through it, and became the success and the beacon you are today to so many people. Hopefully one day I can do the same.

      I'm really similar too. I had a fair bit of success doing keto last year, and one of the reasons I think was the mental momentum. once you do keto for a full day, see if you can do a second. once you do that it makes you feel kinda powerful .... and you will want to go further. the results are pretty quick on keto and that's where you get the rest of the momentum feeling, which can really carry you through avoiding drive thrus and such.

      Thomas DeLauer and Dr. Berg are the two primary people I follow on UA-cam, and they have both changed my life and helped me to lose 40 lbs.

It means alot to know your journey. I was 4 yrs ago a very unhealthy 250lbs at 6ft tall. So many body pains from top to bottom. At 43 I felt 83. By going full on SCD/Keto diet with zero sugar or flour or gluten etc extreme for 5 months I felt 25 again and dropped 60lbs of unhealthy lifestyle. I've since kept a clean diet and kept most of that off for almost 5 yrs now. Thank you for all of your amazing content. It is the BEST channel on UA-cam. And kudos to your crew behind the scenes. • @betelgeuse68
      @betelgeuse68 5 років тому +2

      With respect to "control over food," when an individual eats lots of foods that turn into sugar, ghrelin, a hunger stimulating hormone, isn't cut off as readily. Endomorphs have it worse though, the effect is even more pronounced. But it turns out, when you lead a low carb lifestyle, ghrelin is cut off much, much more quickly. And I can say that when I switched to a LCHF lifestyle 7 years ago, the difference for me personally was pronounced. In the old days, I could go to a buffet and the signal to stop eating would be my pants pressing against my distended stomach. Now, no matter how hungry I am, there's a distinct "switch" that's turned off much more readily and it doesn't matter how much good food is in front of me, I stop. There's no self-negotiation involved either, neurologically, I'm sated. It's like an invisible hand reaches in and turns off the circuitry in my brain that involves any desire for food.

    • @ShellBAtoms
      @ShellBAtoms 4 роки тому

      YES! Same with me! Before keto, as someone who was insulin resistant, I was obsessed by my carb cravings, and never felt sated! But now that I can curb my carb cravings (thanks MCT oil!) I can make much better fuel choices. In addition, by body now feels the effect of leptin, which indicates that I've had enough fuel!

    • @ShellBAtoms
      @ShellBAtoms 4 роки тому +1

      @@glenrisk5234 I've been watching and reading a lot about the history of sugar, which has also helped me properly demonized my former love addition! It's so shocking and sad to learn about how our foods have become so laden with sugary-substances, and the pain and cost that it wields. Like you said, Glen, it's about taking control of ourselves!
      (I'm surprised at the number of people who are criticizing me for gong on a keto diet! I've been researching for 5 years, and finally took the plunge! ) And it feels amazing! I'm finally burning a fuel that my body doesn't resist! --- and my brain loves it too!

    I was 230 lbs at 170 cm (5' 7") at Christmas 2019, I'm now 175 lbs @56 years old. Your channel, and advice, have been a great source of information and inspiration since I started down this path a few months ago. Keep up the great work!

    Wow, similar thing with me Thomas. I would hit the drive thru at McDonalds but switch locations because I was embarrassed about the same employees or people I knew recognizing me. Some days I'd hit Krispy Kreme donuts too and always ate in my car away from people. Anyway, I'm 6'2" and weighed in at 286lbs August 29th 2018, started following you and started keto that very next day and as of today May 18th 2019 I'm weighing in at 202lbs. The leanest I've ever been.

      Just giving you some reassurance that the same employee thing is very real .
      i was 145 at 6’1 doing the same thing switch between locations or go around different times trying to avoid the same employees
      Under-underweight .. still had bad gut bacteria/blood sugar & pressure/ IBM , circulatory problems.. everything wrong
      Im pretty sure im doing much better because i stopped eating high salt & low grade meat

    Thanks for this Video Thomas, I did the same thing i would wake up and have 5 burritos from McDonalds, lunch would be a whole pizza from little ceasar and dinner would be another fast food restaurant. Back then I used to be 260lbs. The struggle is very real. Eventhough I'm down to 175lbs. I still struggle with stress. Its great to have a partner that understands what you are going through and can support you throughout the process.

      Good job brother! I did this routine too. I used food to comfort my stress then I'd feel unimeasurable guilt after. I'm an athletic physic of 6'3 and weighed 368 at Christmas. Now I'm down to 317 w a goal of 120lbs. I'm done living a lie! congratulations on your success and I wish you well with handling stress.

    My eyes are sweating! You really really struck a nerve when you talked about days past, sitting in your car, eating and sad. That was me too! Im a ICU nurse and I work the night shift, plus desperately trying to be a supermom, but inside i was dying. I developed type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, depression, and I was on so many meds- for the diabetes alone; metformin, januvia, jardiance, bydureon. Ive been in my keto lifestyle for 6 months, and im off ALL of my meds. More importantly, i realized im worth fighting for, and in so doing, i believe im setting the best example for my children. The quality of my life and theirs has improved immensely! I wanted to thank you for the guidance in this journey. It means the world to me.
