I challenge anybody to find one single artist of the modern era who can stand in front of thousands of people singing their song back to them in such perfect unity that every word is clear and distinct! And look at the front of that audience. No distractions. No "socializing". Everyone is unified in their purpose for being there. To see greatness unfolding before them.
Amen !!
Omg yessssss
It’s impossible
Think about an audience of about 100,000 in Brazil, non native English speakers singing in perfect unison. Beautiful uplifting music that gets into your soul breaks every barrier. Freddie was always meant to be that performer and Queen was always meant to be his band. All 4 members are epic legends.
Joel, Autotune didn't exist when Freddie was around, to be honest, even if it did, if a studio engineer tried to use it on Freddie's voice they would probably be beaten to a pulp lol.
Oh! Absolutely, tossed on their bum for sure!
‘Who wants to live forever’ live at Wembley is beautiful.
Agree. Although that song is done beautifully also in the official.
Oooh yes!!!
I kinda prefer the Budapest version, still love it tho
A must watch, absolutely❣️
Definitely watch who wants to live forever and these are the days of our lives which is the last video he made…both songs make me cry every time
Brian May the guitarist, plays this song alone to a huge crowd, while paying tribute to Freddie Mercury .
Just as in this performance, the fans sing along with appreciation and love for a man who never failed to entertain and include his audience.
That performance is very moving
@@rozhunter7645 a 12 sneer gitaar love it
1 guitar and 1 voice and everybody in trance of this masterpiece. So beautiful to see how hit hits you as a young guy that has falling in love with queen
This song is so haunting and beautiful. You're absolutely right, Queen is one of the very few bands who actually sound better live and no, Freddie certainly needed no auto tune. He is one of the greatest singers that ever lived. This song was recorded at Wembley Stadium in the summer of 1986, about a year after Live Aid. It had a capacity of 70,000 people and Queen sold out the *entire* stadium *two* nights in a row.
There is nobody on this planet who could get a crowd going like Freddie
The way Freddy performs this version, it feels like he is singing just to you.
Weirdo
I'm 66 now and I was there! I was there!
I’m so sorry for younger generation that can’t see concerts like this anymore but glad they are discovering the genius of Freddie with Queen on video. 😢❤
She also loved him. She was there till the end. The relationship was way too complicated for her. This gave me goosebumps absolutely beautiful. Freddie is one of a kind. Your reaction is also beautiful. Try to watch the “ Greenday crowd sing Bohemian Rhapsody July 2017, watch the footage from the stage. 65,000 people singing every word in sync. The track was played to hype the crowd up before they came out on stage. It’s pure magic to see and hear
I was married to an openly gay/bisexual man for 23 years, we had two sons and after our divorce, we remained best friends, our friendship lasted for 44 years until his sudden unexpected passing late last year...this song meant so much to us, as you quite rightly say, love can be complicated....very few truly understood our relationship, often thinking he married to 'hide' his 'true' sexuality...when questioned he'd say 'I may have been born gay but I just happened to have fallen in love with a woman, I don't have a problem with that so why should you?' lol....his sons knew and adored him, as did his grand children, we all miss him terribly.
@@lynnhamps7052 thanks for sharing such an inspiring story. God bless.🥰

Mary was not his only love. He had a male partner named Jim Hutton, who had been with him since 1985, before he was diagnosed with HIV, who stayed with him, and cared for him until he passed. Hutton later also died of Aids.
Freddie was so INCREDIBLY TALENTED...it's almost painful to watch knowing he's gone 🤣
He was a ONCE in a lifetime Gift
Never seen before or since....
What a loss....
Great reaction Joel, I was there that night and consider myself highly honoured..... chills, stunning, unrivalled, unequalled, the greatest show on earth. RIP Freddie.
Your are so LUCKY to have had that experience!
I cry every time. Long live Freddie. The world is shit without you. 😞❤
I think that's a perfect demonstration of how to create a heartfelt, intimate moment with a massive stadium crowd.
Brian may has a video of him doing this song since Freddie's death and they show a hologram of Freddie in part of it makes me cry when I see it
The next recommendation I suggest is Freddie and Montserrat Caballe singing Barcelona ! Amazing performance 🙌🏽
Would love to see his reation to that
@@edinguy36 yes, I have been going on about this in the comments quite a bit 🤭 and hopefully Joel will get around to hearing Barcelona soon; he will love it, I am sure of that....
And '' How can I go on ''
And '' Innuendo''. Both are amazing
That is
That is amazing
And this is why I love older music. No autotune in live or studio performances. Autotune really only took of in the 2000's.
I love Queen, but plenty of todays artists don't use autotune, check out Harry Styles concerts, he is very influenced by Freddie, he also connects to the crowds on a very personal level, I am 66 years old and listen to as many new artists as old 😊
I'm a 61 year old Australian gay guy and had the privilege of seeing Freddie live. Queens concerts with Adam Lambert are stunning. I just wish Adam would stop apologising that he's not Freddie. Brian and Roger chose you because you're brilliant. Long live Queen.
I don't normally comment on UA-cam but this is one of my most favourite performances Freddie/Queen ever did. I absolutely love this song and I am glad that you knew the meaning behind the song before you watched it. Even over 30 years since Freddie passed he is still loved so much by so many people. Freddie didn't need auto tune either his voice was amazing, even though auto tune wasn't invented until long after he passed.. good reaction my friend you have earned a sub.
“Under Pressure” Live at Wembley is amazing! Freddie was and still IS The King!
Freddie was the master of bringing an audience along with him, but also having them in the palm of his hand.
With Freddy, live or not, you can never ever go wrong
A lot of of the time Freddie didn't ned to sing at their concerts because the crowd could do it for him. That's the thing about Queen, their lyrics are so good and so clear you seem to instinctively know them.
No autotune back then, J. Real singers don't need autotune
You should watch the audience in Hyde park from the Greenday concert singing Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s amazing.
This performance is used in their live shows now, with Brian alone on stage with his acoustic guitar and Freddie on the screen behind him. So moving.
This is at the old Wembley Stadium in front of his home crowd , we always had a special relationship with Freddie i was there at this concert absolutely amazing .I was in tears singing this then and im still in tears now watching this and thinking how this world lost a beautiful soul in Freddie .
Yes London shows always had a little bit extra.
Wow, Joel, this had me in tears. I knew, theory, that this song had been written for Mary but I'd never really listened to the words properly before. Knowing now, from your reaction yesterday, about how and why she left him it makes the words so much more poignant and heartbreaking.
Oh, also have to say... autotune didn't exist when Queen were recording their songs. Autotune was only officially launched in 1997. Loooong after Freddie had passed away. Of course, there are rumours that some artists used autotune before it's official launch, but only by about a year or so. So, autotune was not available but then, Freddie and the rest of the gang really didn't need it, did they?
She didn’t leave him.He told her he was gay,and that ended the relationship,as far as the physical side was concerned. But,of course,as everyone knows, they continued,,to his dying day, loving each other,in every other way.She was the main beneficiary,in his will.
Written by Freddie and no doubt Mary was watching off-stage. They barely left each other's sides. They just knew of the deep love they both felt for each other.
Thete was no autotune back then...Freddie was an extraordinarily gifted singer with a vast range. Is is considered the best rock frontman ever!
Ah Joel, this was so cool! If you want a few suggestions for other performances, then I would recommend Freddie's duet with Montserrat Caballé on "Barcelona", and his crowd-controlling appearance at the 2012 Olympics, 21 years after we lost him - he still had that power over us...
Also, the George Michael tribute of Somebody to Love - an honest and beautifully respectful rendition.
Sleep tight, Freddie... And you too, George. Sweet dreams. x
The power of Freddie.
The studio version is completely different, w/lots of harmonies. This displays their talents. Brian & Freddie stripped it down for a live audience and ….this is what happens. So many great live performances of this one.
Their Montreal performance is one of the best from a vocal & musical standpoint imo.
This is my favourite song of all time.
My advice is to watch first the video of I want to break free. Due it was very controversial in the USA and was censorship. Also, it is an entertaining video to watch
The music video was great and most of the UK were shocked at how prudish the US was over what was nothing more than a bit of fun!
@@neilpickup237 Same thing here in Spain. There is nothing really polemic in it for us.
It wasn’t “America” that was prudish and banned the song. It was MTV in a mistaken belief that it would be rejected. Partially only because at that time most were not familiar with the British tradition of dressing in drag. I think it would have been enjoyed and even a hit if there had been any effort to explain it, but MTV didn’t bother and everyone moved on.
White Queen at the Hammersmith Odeon is another fantastic live performance from their early days (1975).
OK Joel, you have earned the right to sit back and be amazed, we Queen fans (and there are millions of us) believe there is a right of passage to new members. You have covered some studio stuff and some live, now you must take the next step, LIVE AID 1985 @ WEMBLEY, this will not complete your journey, but it will move you along towards that goal.
Saw Queen live in Germany in the early 80's and being from the UK I was amazed hearing the crowd sing along, 40 years on that has stuck with me. Universal.
Just Brian on Spanish guitar and Freddie singing. Magic. You are right he was better live. It was at Wembley. You should review him singing the same song in Rio with a much bigger audience. They all sing and English is not their first language. Freddie was loved the world over.
Great post.
This is one of my favourite Queen songs. It always gives me goosebumps ❤️💕♥️💖
Queen & Adam Lambert - LOVE OF MY LIFE - Vancouver 2019 Freddie still has them. A must watch. It’s just Brian, his guitar, & Freddie
That voice, that voice, it was a gift from God for sure. You know he never took voice lessons and never had a voice coach!!
Please react to Its a Kind of Magic live at Wembley 1986, Play the Game live in Montreal 1981, Save Me live in Montreal 1981. Also, you should hear them do Bohemian Rhapsody live in Montreal 1981. That’s a good start.
I’ve never grown tired of hearing Queen. Freddie’s voice is absolutely the best. Roger and Brian’s voices blend so well with Freddie’s. Their group was just meant to be. They were together with Freddie for 21 1/2 years until he died.
He just makes you smile Everytime you hear his voice 🥺
You should probably watch the songs you think you know, because you probably have only heard a small part of them. That's what happens when you know songs from TV shows or ads, you get a few bars, often recorded by someone else.
Well, there's no one greater than wonderful Freddie and Queen!!!
You are correct about Mary and Freddie, the song was written from what Freddie thought Mary's perspective would be. Beautiful song. Great reaction
Dear Joel, it is such a joy to see you discovering Queen and Freddie Mercury,. Your obvious enjoyment and astonishment at their/his performances is utterly wonderful. Imagine if you had ‘been there’...... just imagine........! Those of us who were have forever been touched by the magical experience. It is wonderful to see your participation and joining the ‘club’ of fans and admirers.
One of my Top 3 Queen songs. As part of his estate, Freddie gave Mary his house, and she raised her family there and still lives there today.
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, but Brian May (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums) are still performing with Adam Lambert as front man. The first thing everyone has to say is he’s no Freddie, which is true. He’ll be the first to tell you that, but Brian and Roger are beyond thrilled to still be performing at 75 and 72, Adam is great in his own right, and they’re still filling stadiums and arenas all over the world. Brian performs this song with the audience and a special surprise at the end.
Freddie Mercury had a beautiful voice, he sang with an opera singer that’s how good he was.
I’m crying watching this there was only one Freddie Mercury his like we will never see again. One in a life time someone comes along with this talent to write perform and sing songs that touch you. People like Freddie George Micheal Buddy Holly and many more have written songs that are timeless as your proving by watching and commenting on. Whilst they are no longer with us their words and music live on. RIP Freddie singing with the Angels now.👼
In this string, one commentator said Love of My Life was actually written by the band’s bassist. That is incorrect……. It was written by Freddie Mercury. It should not be confused with “You’re My Best Friend” written by Bassist John Deacon.
I've watched this a million times and every time it sends shivers down my spine. Shear perfection.
Freddie was and still is magic. I am a keyboard player and had the honour of playing a gig at a venue Queen and Freddie played in during their 1976 UK tour and even 20 years after their performance, during our show my bandmate and I could feel something special in the stage's floorboards. We performed Bohemian with me playing a full piano part over an orchestral backing track and I never played it better than I did that night. Thanks for your video.
Please listen to the official studio version, with lyrics of "You take my breath away". This is my favorite version...the live version is straight to the heart, ,...but without the beautiful flourishes and harmonies that only Freddie could make in the studio. It will knock your socks off!
The best version of You Take My Breath Away is the almost impossibly delicate performance live in London's Hyde Park.
His magic was involving the audience which made them feel it was personal - like friends having a jamming session. Wonderful.
It was the live aid concert at Wembley stadium, Queen was the last act and rocked the whole concert
What an Artist he was
This is such a beautiful tribute ballad to Mary, when he says “I still love you” he’s actually saying it to Mary, but you feel he’s also saying it to you as well, I’m so glad you are reacting to Queen one of the greatest bands ever in my opinion….
That bit always brings a lump to my throat - those were Freddie's last words on video at the very end of "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" - ua-cam.com/video/oB4K0scMysc/v-deo.html
The song was not written for Mary.
It's soo lovely someone your age is listening to Freddie. He is my idol and I'm sad I never got to see him live, I was 8 when he died and I was and I still am in love with all their music.
I miss you Freddie x
This video is a performance at the (former) Wembley Stadium Btw, this is also where Live Aid was held the year before this Queen concert (the British venue of Live Aid. There was also a US venue in Philly). I’m a 5-decade Queen fan and I agree with you that Queen does not need auto tune, but that’s not why they didn’t use it. Autotune wasn’t released until 1997 and Freddie died in 1991, so it wasn’t available to them even if they had wanted to use it for some crazy reason. Whether they realize it or not, autotune is a big part of why so many people prefer music released before the late 90’s. Really talented singers with incredible abilities to hit the right pitch without autotune almost never sing every note exactly on pitch, even if it sounds to us like they are. The sound we perceive as ‘dead-on’ the pitch probably isn’t quite that accurate in reality. Freddie was well-known for being reliably accurate in hitting pitches, but you can analyze his singing with technology and you’ll find that he would blend the exact pitch with an entry to and/or finish of the note, either consciously or subconsciously, with subtle variations of the pitch (slightly flat or slightly sharp) to express emotions or intensity or moods or whatever he was trying to put into the song. The better the singer, the harder it is for the listener to actually hear those subtle differences without technology to analyze the minute variations of the sounds for us. And I am not referring to the vibrato-that’s yet another mechanism a singer uses to fill the sound with intangible qualities. Autotuned music can be enjoyable, but, especially with certain types of music, it can leave us feeling like something is missing. Because it is. The technological “perfection” created by autotune can obliterate the uniquely human aspects of a good singing voice. I think that the lack of autotune-plus the existence of so many incredibly talented musicians-are why people listen to songs from the 60’s, 70’s, and even the 80’s and sometimes wonder why those songs affect them in ways that newer music doesn’t. Those older performances, even the studio versions, have depth and texture to them which is lacking in most newer performances. And Freddie was a master of varying his singing voice to get the song’s message across to the audience. The rich layers of his voice, not stripped by autotune, are responsible for millions and millions of goosebump moments which touch the soul.
Want to hear his amazing voice even better? Now I'm here live at Wembley,
Wembly Football Stadium England July 11/ 12 July 1986. I was there on 11th to witness the greatest band, lead singer and front man ever. Rlp Freddie 💜
Teary eyed here....miss you Freddie ❤
When you watch Live Aid, you can spot Mary on stage from time to time. She is in a dark blue shirt, light blue jean with white belt. You can't see her the first times you watch because Freddie draws you in to his performance. Mary was always with him. There is plenty of photo evidence even though she stayed out of sight. Live Aid was daylight and the stage was too small to hide. She is on the right side back by the white wall/curtain.
FYI Auto Tune did not exist back then.
It was first used in 1996, 5 years after Freddie Mercury passed.
So glad you finally got to this. Freddie is the ULTIMATE showman. Really looking forward to your Bohemian Rhapsody movie reaction..
I must say: I saw sooooo many reactions of the queen-songs, and you seem like the only one who does not stop in between to really feel the music…. Thumbs up dude, you kinda really feel the harmonies….
This song makes me cry every time I hear it ,I miss my husband of 57 years so much .
I enjoyed it 50 yards from the front in 86. Great to see people still enjoy it!
Yeah, this was played at Wembley stadium in 1986.
You know though if you watch this performance in Japan, he doesn't even have to sing.
The Croud knows all the words and could chant it with Brian Rodger and john just doing there thing.
Japan loves queen.
I can never hear this without a handy box of Kleenex! Beautiful. I’m so pleased you found Queen.
Mary was with him till the end. She has protected where his remains are. He was the godfather to her son. She loved him as well.
when Freddie sings this it always makes me cry
This is an emotional song. Freddie is so much better live.
You should listen to Freddie and Montserrat Caballé singing Barcelona live….. just amazing 🤩
Wembley 1986, the year after the band’s legendary performance at Live Aid. I’m glad you’re getting into the live versions as the band were very much made for live performances. It’s so much more enjoyable seeing a band playing in real time and interacting with the audience. Studio versions are often so over produced that the raw live energy is sorely missing and they often sound flat and contrived compared to the live performances. Looking forward to your reaction to Live Aid and specifically to see how the performance totally drained Freddie at the very end despite it only being 20+ minutes long (It's thought that he was in the early stages of full blown Aids during the mid 80s). You simply can’t capture that energy in a staid, studio performance.
Freddie wasn't well at Live Aid, which is why he was knackered after only 20 minutes. IMO the studio versions are wonderful and do not sound flat at all. He could keep doing the vocals until he got it right. Like, "Another One Bites The Dust". He had multiple takes at that before he nailed it. Consequently, it sounds miles better than the live versions.
@@79BlackRose Have to disagree 100% Freddie was so much better live , hitting perfect notes means nothing in the studio a monkey can do that. The authenticity in Freddie's live vocals are what made him THE BEST LIVE PERFORMER EVER PERIOD .
@@MARTIN-bd7gm So Freddie was a monkey in the studio if you say so. Anyway, if voice cracks made his voice more authentic, then why did he not record them like that for the albums?
I absolutely agree! I've commented on several Queen reaction videos that to me the studio versions are too polite and over-produced. Bands of that era didn't need "auto tune", even if it had existed, because they could sing and play.
@@79BlackRose further to your comment that Freddie wasn’t well - I seen two re actions to Queen at live aid by professional singer coaches, and both could see that Freddie was not well, and they commented how he controlled the effort of his singing within the limits of his stamina. Despite this the Average man in the street wouldn’t have known that he was I’ll.
The film Bohemian Rhapsody showed that Freddie was very I’ll at Live Aid.
Makes me cry everytime I hear it.
At the same concert Freddie and Brian also played Is this the world we created. Very apt for the times we are living in now. X
If you enjoyed this then you've got to watch it live Rock in Rio 85 it's amazing 😊 The crowd 👌
This was from their 1986 concert at Wembley Stadium, London. It was recorded for a live album. And this was Queen's final tour with Freddie, their final show being Knebworth nine dates later, as I think by this point he already knew he was ill. Songs you've still not reacted to:. their first hit Killer Queen, Radio Ga Ga that is on the Liveaid setllist, I Want To Break Free with its "controversial" video, It's A Kind Of Magic from the album of the same name this 1986 tour was part of. Leave the two songs The Show Must Go On and These Are The Days Of Our Lives for later, both quite sad as Freddie was seriously ill by that point.
Was at Knebworth, the last performance ever. Thank God I got to that show..it was amazing.
It is .I suggested he add live at wembley dvd to his collection it's absolutely phenomenal
I was at knebworth....it was amazing..❤❤
I saw them at Knebworth. Worth all the horrendous hours it took us to get out of the carpark! They were magnificent.
It was a soccer stadium in England, Wembley Stadium!
✌️ Мне всегда нравится Ваша реакция на Фредди и Queen.
I believe Freddy trained as an opera singer which is why he is so good.
Freddie and Mary were soulmates. They may not have been romantic soulmates in the end but there was always a connection there. When he died he asked her to cremate him and bury his ashes but not tell anyone where. Wherever she did it, it must have been their own special place until she too died.
Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Cabellle - Barcelona. It will knock your socks off. Enjoy.
You need to watch the whole thing, Live aid at the old Wembley (how can you not know Wembley!).
Queen totally stole the show.
Watch some more of his and their work, not forgetting Barcelona, and, when you are ready for his ultimate goodbye song, These are the days of our lives. Listen to the words, and see him shine, especially the very last line.
Tissues ready.😢
He used to throw the best parties. Ery proud to have known him
Yes, Im crying my eyes out, what magic he had to touch the soul...What a precious soul and amazing talent...RIP Freddie
He and Mary Austin lived together for 6 years. He proposed and gave her a ring before he realized that he was actually gay, but they remained best friends for the rest of his life. He said he considered her his common-law wife, and that no one would ever replace her in his heart.
Me parece fantástico que personas jóvenes y no tanto podamos ver a Queen . Rabia de que se marchara ya pronto. Su voz ❤ un cantante completo .
IMPRESIONANTE
The final music video that Queen made for the song 'these are the days of our lives' is poignant. Freddie at the very end of the song looks directly into the camera and whispers to us all I still love you... it is incredibly moving... This was filmed at Wembley Stadium where they played for two nights, the same stadium where they performed their Live Aid set the previous year before. This was to be Freddies final tour with the band which makes it even more moving.
You actually make me cry with your reaction to his beautifull voice
One of my absolute favourite songs
How cold where the shivers down your back, slightly damp eyes, the more you watch the worse it gets. 😢
You can’t go wrong with any of there live performances.
It’s great to hear you did some background work before listening.
My all time favourite Queen song.
Agree, so much better live.
Who wants to live forever - studio version. Absolutely fab. So moving. x
Joel - Freddie was never Auto tuned because quite simply it did not exist whilst he was alive . Not that he would have needed it anyway. I think one of the amazing things is how Freddie could control the crowd it just shows how much he was loved and respected.
As you have learned from reacting to the Freddie AIDS Story Freddie inspired by Mary Austin wrote this song. IMO it’s written from Mary’s perspective & heart break “Love of my life, don’t leave me .. you’ve taken my love, and now desert me”. I’m a big fan of Mary and her unwavering devotion to Freddie “When I grow older .. I will be there at your side to remind you .. How I still love you”. And she was at Freddie’s side when he passed away! 💔 😢 🥀🥀
This is a beautiful song, Please watch full concert Live Aid 1985 ..you will love it !!! 🤩
