This is one of the most deserved golden buzzer I have ever seen. A 50 year old janitor who seems shy and nervous with a beautiful voice. This to me is what this show is about.
Richard is my hero. I am French and I am 65 years old. I've been watching Richard's videos since this video was posted. He gave me back my confidence in life and I thank him for that. Congratulations Richard, you can be proud of yourself! Thank you because your videos on AGT allowed me to regain my self-confidence. Thank you so much Gwandhal
I watch several Got Talent clips, mostly America and Britain though. One thing I do notice is on BGT the judges hit the golden buzzer in the moment of emotion, like after the song when everyone is cheering, and on AGT the judges hit the golden buzzer while giving their summary of the performance, thus taking part in the emotional moment instead of giving the emotional moment to the performer.
On Canada's Got Talent all Golden Buzzers receive $25,000 (tax free) & top prize is $1,000,000 Canadian (roughly about $730,000 - tax free). Pretty disappointed that AGT buzzers don't win anything, He really deserves $25,000!

I’m a 59 year old surgeon in tears watching this wonderful man… I was only able to become a surgeon because my grandfather came to this country… and was a career janitor giving my mother a chance to a better life than they had God bless you
I think you would enjoy Brian Kiley(Dry Bar Comedy). Like Richard here, I’ve watched his ‘One Liner Video’ at least a dozen times. He talks about his grandfather coming to this country, looking for a better life. Then he says, grandma caught up with him and put a stop to that. Most of Dry Bar is great. I’m 72 and get choked up watching Richard 😎
Yeah I remember that time you spilled all that chocolate milk and when he attempted to clean it up you jumped in it splashing him and making him cry. Then u proceeded to go on him and his family... wow
I'm a 48yo guy choking back tears for this man. Can just tell he's a humble, gentle soul. As a former musician I love seeing someone get a break that truly deserves it. 👏
THIS is what this show was originally about ... no sob stories, no semi-professional entertainers, etc. Some random, humble guy with a hidden talent. Geez, that gave me chills ... so dang happy for Richard for getting the nerve up to do this. Team Richard!
100% …. The to show is full of semi pro or full time professionals and half of them come from overseas. I always thought it was about finding ordinary gems like this fella … seems I’m mistaken. Our recent series even had semifinalists from other countries comps which the judges seemingly didn’t know about thinking they were appearing for the first time. 🤦🏼♂️. Hope this guys goes on to win… Journet themselves could it have done a better job 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Just sad he sold his soul to be there... Anything he produce is now owned by the Got Talent corporation... Wish these people could catch a break without having to be hin creative slavery for most of their life afterwards.
This dude seems and looks so humble. Most people on this show don't know what it's like to be humble and have humble beginnings like him. Dude seems so genuine and like he's worked hard and finally gets a break.
@@signalfire15 yeah that is somewhat true, but I also mean more like the fact that he's probably worked hard his entire life and he finally gets a major break at the age of 55

@abstracttricker2297 how is a man who gave 23 years of his life to cleaning up a school for children a sob story? A lot of hard working people who put their dreams aside will relate to this dude.
He was almost in tears before he even started singing. That in itself made me want to cry. I love the support he got from the judges and audience right from before he started singing, straight through his whole performance. He is such a genuine person with a big heart. You can tell. That voice is unforgettable and so is he. He deserved this moment, and he deserved winning it all. So happy for him!!!!!
Wow My school janitor is on TV! I told a million times when he was cleaning my class and singing: Richard you got do something with your Voice! He is him! Way to go my Richard!
I love it when someone who is humble shows up and shares a little bit of themselves with others. No flash, nothing put on or over the top, just pure talent in jeans and shirt. Loved that he got the Golden Buzzer.
His upper register is amazing. All of us older people who had to take honest work to pay the bills are proud that he stood out and sought some limelight. Congratulations.
Richard, You Sir are absolutely the meaning of the Journey song "Don't stop Believin"! I'm 46, a disabled Military veteran and my daughter, family and friends have been telling me to give it a shot at singing too. Cant imagine being a janitor for over 20 years, walking the halls for all that time, living day to day not realizing that your voice could literally shock the world. Brought me to tears just hearing him sing such an apropos song. Blew me away!
I suspect he knows exactly how good his voice is. He is very confident with a microphone in hand and projected well into the back rows of the crowd. I suspect he has low confidence and self esteem which has held him back. You can't be that fuckin' good and not progress on the stage of life. I appreciate I am making some assumptions, but I feel it from my own experiences.
That’s what you call real raw talent. Got that 80s voice, no gimmicks, auto tune or anything sexual or about appearance. Just pure talent. Hope he gets far or wins!
I am a janitor at a restaurant and im currently going through a rough patch in life. So much so that i feel like giving up every second of the day. My hope and dreams are crushed and shattered, until yesterday when I was going through one of my roughest panic episodes yet, this guy came on the t.v. and suddenly hearing his story and seeing his confidence just fully out on stage for all to see. Some of the best passion vocals that ive heard in a while. Made me tear up but not one of hollowness per usual but one with hope✨️Cause if he can go out there and not give a crap about what others think of him and just show his true self/talents; then i can to. Richard Goodall stole America's hearts last night on "America's Got Talent." I had the chance to have breakfast with Richard at the hotel on the morning I was on my way out after my previous night's taping, and he had just come in for his. The simple, genuine, and unassuming man I had the opportunity to get to know was just humbled to be there and had no lofty expectations. This weary nation needs a hero-it needs a dear soul like Richard Goodall, and he has stepped up to the plate and given it one. So many people feel as if they are without hope these days. Richard Goodall, a janitor from Indiana, just gave it to millions of them.

Teacher of 24 years here and when in college one of the best pieces of advice my Prof told me is to quickly befriend the janitorial staff as there will be countless times that you will need them.
My Dad was the Custodian at a middle high school for 2 decades back in the 70s/80s. When he had a heart attack, several kids went to the hospital and said they were his kids in order to see him. They made a card that was 3 ft tall by 2 ft wide, and most of the school signed it with well wishes. I had the best Dad ever and I was so proud of him. He got better and went on to live another 30 years before passing. The kids at his school had a huge welcome back party for him, and they even all cleaned up afterwards. He was very popular in our city as he also did tons of charity work. I never felt shame of his job. Besides, here in Canada, he was making good money at that time since he was in a Union. 😊
I have never voted for anyone on any of these shows but I figured out how and voted for Richard. Knew i had to do so. Hes already won and I still came here to watch his audition again. Much deserved win for a deserving person. GO Richard.

Could not hold back the tears. Such a great voice. I was a janitor for 32 years also and wish I was as humble as he is. A good example for us all. Super job!!!!!
Mr. Richard if you see this I want you to know I appreciate everything you did for me and my friends. When I accidentally spilled a drink, you were there and you said to me that it is no big deal and to hurry to class so I wasn't late and that means the world to me that you care so much and I loved having you as our janitor. Thank you Mr Richard
As a father of two beautiful children, I just wanted to say that that was an absolutely beautiful thing to say to Mr. Richard. I'm so glad that he has an entire community who love and encourage him. You all inspired him to follow his dreams. 🙂
As someone else said, the reason his fiancé wasn't there was probably because they couldn't afford tickets, or both of them taking time off work. It warms my heart to know that his family will never have to miss another performance of his because of money.
I'm a 44 year old warehouse manager in tears right now. That man just gave a performance for every single person that their fears stopped them from going after whatever "it" was. That was absolutely beautiful.
Truth. There’s a little Richard in all of us but sometimes the cards just don’t ever line up, so seeing it happen for someone doesn’t make you feel jealous it makes you feel wonderful, coz it feels like he’s there repping all of us, and it’s so rare. 🤧
"Until you actually do something, you don't know if it's right for you or not." Very well said, Richard! Sometimes, we have to step out of our comfort zones to face the unknown and chase our dreams, whatever they may be. Kudos on the Golden Buzzer, sir! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Janitor for 23 yrs! He has seen a lot of change. A chaotic comfort zone yet stable as he said. Kids throw away their entire meals now a days. Need 4 trash cans to carry all the waste. Milk runs out the bottom of the dumster. And a lot is all over the floor. I did it for a year. No fun. Only in America is there a mountain of jackets, sweaters, etc. left in lost & found at the end of the school year. Government su subsidized waste. They getting rid of books and libraries everything online.😢

I am Taiwanese and Australian. Watching this makes me believe that the world is still great, and America is still great, despite seeing too many foolish people on social media. Everyone who cheered and teared up for Richard represents the goodness of the world resonating together as one. Love to all who find happiness in this video. ❤
The story of Richard is the whole package. It should be a movie. There are people, yes, that never go far from their hometown. This gentleman lives an honest life, works a hard--often thankless--job, but it's his courage to get on a plane, something he's never done even at age 55, fly to California to be on America's Got Talent to pursue a dream of singing. That right there is the American Dream come true.
I think Simon was supportive of Richard making him feel comfortable before he sang because after all Simon started out work ing in a car wash blue collar job anyway this guy can sing! Brought a tear to my eye
Your time has come Richard , now go and fly like an eagle doing what you like best. God gives us all gifts and talents you find yours now so use it. Now use it.
The more I thought about his courage to get on a plane, it wasn't just that, it was to get on a plane to go to a national international TV show and stand up before a crowd of what 3,000 people and judges and all the sound and noise and everything in a television production you are not used to? I can certainly understand his nerves but aside from that he gave an incredible performance. I just hope that he takes his experience as far as he wishes it to and I hope he enjoys the experience. But more so I hope that people don't take advantage of him. He's in a very elite group of people that include Paul Potts and Susan Boyle and maybe one or two other people that came from nothing to be on that show and their whole life changed from all the attention and the accolades. I really hope he does well and enjoys his time in California and on the show. There are thousands of people rooting for him. Well done, Richard!!
I'm 20 years old and this video gave me hope. I clean houses every week and I'm also a musician. This guy waited 23 years to get his moment and HE deserved it. ❤ Edit: I started teaching classical guitar and I got three students so far. God is good! Also, who's here after Richard's big win? I only watched his performances and he did it!

No we don't. This is what you call "A dime a dozen" Nothing original just a great impression of someone else's song and voice. Imagine a comedian gets up there and starts doing an impression of Jerry Seinfeld and all of his jokes..Same thing
America NEEDS Mr. Richard. A supposed nobody. Someone most people would walk by and pay no attention to. Someone many likely look down upon and give no respect. A man with a simple dream and no expectation - just blew us all away!!! The best golden buzzer in AGTs history. Thank you Richard for dreaming and for daring to follow that dream! The thing I love most is he didn’t try to tell some sob story even though he could’ve. His wife died of cancer not too long ago. But he didn’t use it to get votes, he let his voice do the work. This is what a golden buzzer is for.
i saw that when looking through his instagram; you could feel the pain in his voice, the emotional release, i've never been so happy to see a guy do so well, what a sweet man and now his life is going to be changed for the better, forever. Hope his departed wife can see him.
This is what "humility" is. It's understanding that while you may have disappointments and problems in life, there's always somebody worse off than you. I cried (AGAIN) when he thanked Sofia for her evaluation - he said "Thank you ma'am".
From his first note he had every single person in the audience, both in the room and watching from screens, 100% in his corner. Even the comments section is nice! That never happens!
It was definitely the first note, and a lot of times for me that's how it is with certain singers. It's actually very rare to start that way and them also to keep it up. There was hardly any moments that he swayed. He lacked a tad a few but overall he kept that momentum going and you could tell it was the crowds reaction that helped him feel confident to keep going strong. He's one of the strongest feeds off the crowd I've ever seen.

Love this comment, 100% agree! Keeping it real! 🎉
Well said mate this feels real.. the uk show an American one now feels so fake
Absolutely!
This dude seems and looks so humble. Most people on this show don't know what it's like to be humble and have humble beginnings like him. Dude seems so genuine and like he's worked hard and finally gets a break.
Almost everyone on the show comes from humble beginnings… so many of the people who audition are from third world countries.
@@signalfire15 yeah that is somewhat true, but I also mean more like the fact that he's probably worked hard his entire life and he finally gets a major break at the age of 55

Notice how people immediately stood up after the singing started? His voice is truly one of a kind, god bless his soul ❤
So sad to hear about that. But I'm glad he didn't tell that. I like that the crowd cheers for him just for his talent.
❤❤❤❤❤
I couldn't agree any more with this comment than I do now. His voice is impressive. He's the undiscovered Steve Perry.
"Even the comments section is nice! That never happens!"...TRUTH!!!!
So true❤️❤️❤️❤️
He was actually the best audition of the night!
I was thinking the same thing about the comments
Been crying through most of them. He was amazing
This is the most deserved golden buzzer. A 55 year old janitor who is shy and quiet, but when he sings has an epic voice. This to me shows that American Got Talent makes dreams come true.
Finally found him. I've been telling him to go to a talent show for 3 years I am proud to be one of those kids who told him you should go ... U deserve it sir .best school janitor ever .
He’s soo humble. I’ve rarely ever seen a man who’s so humble. He deserves the world
100 percent!!
Even adressed terry with sir
Props to Simon for making Richard feel comfortable before his performance too
I am 62 years old and grew up listening to music like this one from Journey. Always loved it. Watching this humble janitor sing it I am in love with it all over again. Sir, you deserve that golden buzzer and so much more! I hope you win AGT ! Much love sweetheart to you and your family! ❤
This gentleman can sing Steve Perry, and that's saying something! I'm so happy he gathered his courage and got up on that stage. Bless him!
From a fellow school janitor - you have been blessed with a wonderful voice. May God bless you in this amazing chapter in your life. ❤️
May god bless you also Sir. Im sure generations of kids appreciaye your hard work ❤❤
Thank you! Janitors make a big impact❤
May god bless you too mister I appreciate ur work
To the kid, who screamed Richard's name cheering for him before he started singing, i hope that all of your dreams come true because you are an awesome human.
👏👏👏
Amazing the camera operator was able to get them in frame.
❤❤❤❤
Im so proud of you!!! Thank you for being at my school! It was always amazing having you around!
Truly an amazing man and singer
It's such a beautiful story isn't it?
Well deserved! Everything is real here. Heartfelt. The audience and judges reaction. I'm glad you decided to do this Richard.
You inspired! We owe you that! In my book you've already won! Can't wait to hear more!
This isn't about you. Why try to make it about you?
@@tylekerry1480you are weird. And, re-read the comment 🤔
He really enunciates EVERY word. That is what makes him different. I’ve sang in several choirs, and the emphasis was always on making each word heard. Even if you over emphasize it.
Richard works at my kids school and also works with my Dad @ the school! We’ve been super excited to see this tonight! All happy tears!! He deserves this 🙏💙 West Vigo sure is proud of you !
Your school needs to find a new janitor. I think Richard is now taken!!!❤ he was amazing. Just sad that it's been this long to share his talent with America but his time is now. What a humble man who has a great voice!!!
He totally deserves this.. even if he doesn't win he's going to go so far in singing
I'm down the road in Vincennes. Sooo awesome!
Could you please tell him it was great, amazing & spectacular, from japan?Thank you.
He is amazing 😍🤩
Shout out to the guy in the background loudly cheering Richard on ..before, during, and after the performance…I hope we can all be like that ..for strangers who share their dreams ❤️
Yes, that was great.
That’s the truth we all need it. It’s seems that we have been waiting for someone like Richard to come along to open our eyes and hearts to remind us how we should judge a book by its cover. Reminds me of Susan Boyle and how she shocked the world with her phenomenal voice. I’m team Richard
Should my I mean
Should not I mean
@@kathleensass854 ..I think readers understood what you meant :) If I might add...IMO...2 other women performers who shocked the world besides Susan Boyle....Nightbirde, and Putri Ariani.
I am a 37yr old male and this guy brought tears to my eyes.
What an amazing human being!
So am i
Watch this many times but always bring me to tears..
You are great Richard👏👏👏
I’ve been in the business all my life and as a Broadway professional I can say this performance blew me away. This guy represents every American with a dream the little engine that could God bless you, Richard I watched your video over and over and it brings tears to my eyes every single time, I can honestly say this is probably the most incredible performance I’ve ever seen or heard. Regardless of the outcome from here on out just remember you have already won. You’ve won the hearts of millions of people around the world. I think the world is thrilled. You never stopped believing enjoy the ride. You deserve it.
Make Mr Richard win AGT this year ❤❤😊
Man felt the same way. People give up on their dreams everyday. He is proof just to keep pushing and believing. Tears streamed down my eyes from this performance.
You look the guy in the audience after he was done signing lol
I'm 81 yrs old and watched AGT and BGT for years and this had me in tears, such a Humble and talented man he deserves all that they can give him. fantastic Voice. one of my favorite groups. song, and lead singer, and now he's equal to Journey, he did them proud God speed Richard! ECF!
People like him don't seek attention or approval and in this world today where everyone needs both...he's a hidden gem. Thanks Richard.
I havent cried for couple of years, but happiness of this man make me cry like a baby
