Constantly. I play his songs over and over again. He put so much love and joy in hs songs and the way he sang them. He had a wonderful voice and such a loving way of presenting them. He died so tragically and so long before his time. He is one of America's and the world's great treasures. I miss him still.
John Denver will always hold a special place in my heart. When I was a child (in fourth grade, to be specific), my class sent him a list of questions. The man actually took the time to send us a video recording of himself answering the questions. Bear in mind, this was pre-internet, so I mean he recorded a VHS and sent it to our school for us. Great man.
Agreed - this only makes me love (and miss) him more. Thanks for sharing. As a child in the 70s, I lay on my living room floor listening to my older sister's copy of "Back Home Again". And then there was the Muppets 😊
Every time I see this song, I am amazed at the upper register that John Denver had. Not only that he could hit those notes at his age, but that he hit them pitch-perfect, and kept them completely in-tune. What a truly gifted performer and musician. The world was a better place for him being in it, and is a little less bright and free in his absence...
My wife says maybe you want to open you heart to the artists of today and remember God speaks to us through music still. But you're right, the music was completely unique as was Mr. Denver. God bless.
Yeah, John's range was truly amazing! I am soprano, & I can't hit some of the notes he did. What a God-given talent he had, & what an i credible person he was. 💖😊🌍🐋🐦🎶🎸🌞👍✈💖
@@KathleenGreene-h3f Thanks. I love discovering what is going on in life outdoors. This song is a good start for that. It motivates one to tackle each and every day.
My dad was a skin diver and knew Jacques Cousteau. It was a great excitement for my siblings and I when he would go out with him. Just watched this vid and the Calipso vid. Very moving🥹
My absolute favorite of John's songs. I'm a born sailor. The opening line, the entire song just speaks to me. "To sail on a dream, on a crystal clear ocean, to ride on the crest of a wild raging storm". I've done that and when he sings that line it brings so much back to me. My boat's have always been named "Windsong" after one of John's albums. In fact, the very first boat, I took the album cover to the painter so that the name, when painted, could look on the sides of the boat like it did on the album cover. I'm without a boat now but I have my eye on one and 40 years later I still have that 33 1/3 album cover and that name will be painted on the side of the boat the same way, with one difference. This last boat will be named "Windsong, Forever".
I absolutely loved reading your story; I'm envious of the career, freedom you must experience. This is a gorgeous song, too! Merry Christmas, friendly Stranger. RIP: Mr. John Denver.
Actually, yesterday i was at a Cape Cod beach, Nauset Light, with some of my family. I was singing this (mostly to myself) as i was looking at the ocean, waves, beach erosion. It was FANTASTIC, even though there were no dolphins, and more windy than a breeze.

This is the best version of John's classic song; and its message now more relevant than ever. Let's take care of Mother Nature. God bless you John, love and peace.
It's such a joyous, reverent song...I can just barely remember watching The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau when I was very little. I hope the crew knew how happy they made all of us who were fascinated by their discoveries. I hope Calypso knew, too.
i remember those shows, also as a youngish child. I wanted to BE Jacques Cousteau, but it was the 1970’s and being a girl, “you can’t do that, you are a girl.” RGH!
I'm a classic rock fan and always will be but I have to say John Denver was one of the most talented performers that ever sang and had an Angelic voice...
Without a doubt one of the most talented singers and song writers ever. Such a pure voice and the poetry of the lyrics is beauty embodied. Thanks for the awesome music John. Gone but never to be forgotten!
Was fortunate to see him sing live in a small club in Georgetown, Washington, DC right before his career took off. What a talent! His music touches the soul

Hey Jeff. Lost my mom last year. She plays JD's music constantly in the house in the 70's. You said it perfectly. I now show my 11 year old son the same you do with your boys. Miss my mom. Thank you Jeff for saying it so perfectly!
Unfortunately he was no angel. At the time of his death he was flying under a suspended pilot's license for being arrested twice for driving drunk. He definitely had some demons in his life.
So was I. My Father and I danced to Annie's Song for our Daddy/Daughter dance at my wedding. I played this for my Dad at his funeral. He loved sharing John's music with me

There has never been another singer that can come close to John Denver and there never will be!!! My absolute favorite of all time hands down!!!!! Sure do miss him!!!🎼🎸🎶❤️🐺🐺
Where on earth did the music go? There was so much talent from the 50's through the early 80's, it's so very hard to pick a top list in every genre. Now, it's hard to find anything worth listening to that can be called good, let alone great. I wonder how many more great songs this man would have written if he had not left us so soon.
Unfortunately, I was too young to have had the pleasure of seeing John Denver before his death, but boy do I wish I could have seen him live. At least UA-cam is able to preserve these moments.
Then you missed a great singer and song writer I saw him live back in 79 it was a great concert John had a way of making you feel good about your self he made you feel welcome where he played
I just got a rescue cat named Calypso and it reminded me of this song, so I listened to it again. I find old songs revisited are either really bad or really good. This is just amazing. Timeless classic. In the past, as a fun question I've asked people "what's the most uncool song ever that you actually love?". I'm 49 and John Denver has never been considered cool in Australia to people my age (teenager about 20 years past his prime). My answer has always been Calypso. I've just always absolutely loved it! Tbh, I don't find it that meaningful personally (Cousteau's boat), but the lyrics "I sing to your spirit" and the yodelling are just so irresistibly uplifting I can't help but just feel my heart glow! So now I have 2 Calypso's I love 😊
His energy was just amazing. John was an amazing man, an incredible musician. He was one of the very best singers and songwriters I’ve known of. I was on the road, in North Carolina when the news came on the radio. I broke down.
I searched for the live version of this as i didn’t think he could do the yodel as well as the studio version but i was wrong .A great talent that was taken way too soon .
I always with certain songs get tears in my eyes. Yes I close my eyes and visualize the ship gliding along in the ocean. Then I remember Jacques Cousteau is dead along with John Denver and grief wells up in my heart for the loss of two greats. My husband and I loved them both.
John Denver was the best in every way! His voice was one of a kind! I loved when he hit those high notes, they still send chills down my spine. But, even more than that his songs touched my heart and soul!! I will never stop missing him. We need him in this world, I don’t know why God called him home. Rest in the loving arms of God!
One of the greatest voices in music. I listened to his songs when I was in High School. So sad he passed away. I think he would still sing just as well now like he always did.
Came upon John Denver again and played Calypso, followed by many more wonderful songs then returned to this one. How can one artist make me both smile and cry so much?
He could sing!! His high notes remind me of Randy Meisner on Take It to the Limit. When you think that he can't get any higher there he goes again. I sure do miss John Denver and am so grateful that we have access to his live performances because I never got a chance to see him live while he was here with us.
Sara I agree with you, and I never saw him live either. If you haven't heard him sing Stevie Wonder's If Ever, you have GOT to listen to it. Phenomenal!
There is nothing like being out at sea in a storm being tossed around onboard a ship. It was an experience I shall never forget and this song always reminds me of it.
I played this song for my Dad at his funeral. He was a Navy man, but he made me love John and he always told me this song wasn't the right version without the bells. For you John and Dad with love
Does anyone else still get a lump in their throat whenever they hear John Denver?

My answer has always been Calypso. I've just always absolutely loved it! Tbh, I don't find it that meaningful personally (Cousteau's boat), but the lyrics "I sing to your spirit" and the yodelling are just so irresistibly uplifting I can't help but just feel my heart glow!
So now I have 2 Calypso's I love 😊
Just quite simply perfect
This is my favorite song from John Denver. You left us way too soon John and are sadly missed.😢
His energy was just amazing. John was an amazing man, an incredible musician. He was one of the very best singers and songwriters I’ve known of. I was on the road, in North Carolina when the news came on the radio. I broke down.
I searched for the live version of this as i didn’t think he could do the yodel as well as the studio version but i was wrong .A great talent that was taken way too soon .
miss this guy
Excellent natural voice no effort required this man is a Legend. He left such a beautiful footprint on this earth. Thank you John.
What a beautiful and gentle soul. Forever thought of and missed.
A rare, ethical talent taken way too soon, his likes l fear we will never see again.
Vocally, one of his best versions. But in particular the absolute joy on his face throughout the song and at the end is heart warming.
An angel got his wings.😇 Hugs dear, sweet and beautiful John. Thank you for all you did for humanity and the planet 🌎 🤗💖
One of the finest to ever walk among us
One of the greatest voices in music. I listened to his songs when I was in High School. So sad he passed away. I think he would still sing just as well now like he always did.
Came upon John Denver again and played Calypso, followed by many more wonderful songs then returned to this one. How can one artist make me both smile and cry so much?
Imo, the greatest singer/songwriter of all time.
LEGEND!!!
Wow when he hit that last last note I got goosebumps! RIP John. Gone way to soon but at least you left a great legacy of music
It was amazing to hear such a voice from that tiny person! Missing him in 2021.
That was awesome! R I P, John.
This was such a great concert! What a voice!!
🎶💞
I played this song for my Dad at his funeral. He was a Navy man, but he made me love John and he always told me this song wasn't the right version without the bells. For you John and Dad with love
He is a singer/ composer for “all time and all generations, now and in the future! His music transcends time!!!
What a concert. It stands the test of time. Never forgotten Mr. Denver. God bless.
