It is 2023, and it has been a while since hearing this song. I started to happily sing along, but it is very difficult to sing when the tears are flowing and the throat chokes up because your heart is so full of the wonder and beauty of the images on the screen and the beauty of the words of the song. This video needs to be put into the hall of fame. I was always mesmerized by the Jacques Cousteau TV specials, and always loved hearing and singing along with John Denver. This video brings together two people who were brilliant at what they did, and loved and cared about nature and life.

John Denver was a true lover of nature. He went to the Whitehouse at least twice asking to campaign to preserve more than 100 million acres of wild public land in Alaska.
And asking to be careful with oil pipelines

Legit teared up with this one. I can vaguely recall watching Jacques Cousteau as a child (I was 4 when it first aired), and "Calypso" is such a beautiful song. RIP Jacques & John; you are both truly missed, even all these years later.

Crying right along with you. Goosebumps arising from hearing a song are proof enough there is a part of us inside connected to something bigger than us, though I see no one religion as being right but rather the Goosebumps connection as all the extra sprit I need

I remember the year that Calypso was released John was on his annual tour. He came to the Scope in Norfolk, VA. He has a back screen projector showing this video as he sung for us. 11,000 people became completely silent and watched and listened. When it was over the place literally erupted into a standing ovation and lots of praises being sent to John and Jacque. Now almost 50 years later I sit and watch and listen and the same feelings came flooding back. RIP John and Jacque for your spirit and caring.

My father deeply loved and respected the ocean that we were blessed to live by. He was an avid scuba diver and was like a kid glued to the tv set when the Jacques Cousteau show would come on (circa, late 1960s), whereas he ordinarily would have no use for 'the box.' We watched alongside him because the show was pleasant, informative and Mr. Cousteau had an inspiring method of imparting his own love of the ocean and all that is within it. Good memories!

Sadly the family has splintered badly over ownership and rights to the J C foundation. Fabian the grandson, he just does his own conservation work,he doesnt seem get into the family politics, he does lectures , and organises clean ups and has the cool unflappable jacques grit and determination. He also built underwater research station

As for men / women today, the world is full of greedy people who think immaterial things are important .

Jacques Cousteau - environmentalist, oceanographer, inventor of the aqua lung - was joyful in spirit, along with his crew, as the song lyrics say. They explored with awe and respect for all living beings. May Jacques Cousteau's legacy live forever and John Denver's lyrics too!

+Darth Belal The Calypso was wildly popular. Jaques Cousteau had his own TV program called "Undersea with Jaques Cousteau" He was the first person to make land dwellers aware of what went on in the ocean. So no, it was not really a far stretch back then, Now yes.

Jacques Cousteau was the first to show us the undersea world. He invented the "aqua lung" and the equipment that could take us as individuals under the sea. (Previously, there were submersibles, but not personal breathing aparatus like what he invented). In the 60's he had documentary shows showing where he went and the world he explored. John Denver went on a cruise with him and this was his tribute to Jacques Cousteau and his ship, the Calypso. FOr those of us who grew up with his documentaries, we share this passion so incredibly expressed in this song.

While in the Navy and sailing in the Pacific Ocean, a whale surfaced about 100 feet from my ship.
It swam next to us for about 10 minutes and the entire crew got a good look at it.
I don't know what kind of whale it was but it was very big and had barnacles on it. It was looking at us and just swimming along.
Then it sounded and disappeared beneath the waves.
All of us were absolutely awestruck by this magnificent creature.
To this day it remains the most incredible thing I have ever seen.
Sailing on the surface it is easy to forget what life lies below.

So inspiring and uplifting. I remember watching every episode of Jaques Cousteau amd calypso when I was a boy. It was great and for some reason have just watched again calypso being rebuilt and some episodes. Curiously I went on to dive and became a recreational instructor. I worked in the Caribbean as a dive guide. I also went on to become a singer songwriter and played country roads in my sets. John Denver was a huge inspiration. I wish I could be part of this somehow 😢. This song is incredible, it all sad he died as he did. I’m not a very successful singer songwriter but I did work at it and got commissioned to write a small piece for radio station and could hardly believe I did live dream if only for a very short time. The British government actually are blocking me from both activities and my struggles go on. Peace to both these amazing people and calypso 🙂🙏👋🔥🔥
