I actually think the theater experience was amazing because it made me feel like I was in the audience watching it all live. If you want to feel like you're in the audience watch it in theaters. If you want to experience as someone who was watching the show at home then watch it at home.

Michael Ironsides narration was the cherry on top, for the budget they had, they will reap the rewards for years to come. I can see this becoming an annual Halloween tradition.

Idk, early 2000s had Jeepers Creepers, House of 1000 corpses etc. Now most horror movies have been a consistent stream of like possession and exorcism bs, this one included, this one at least looks good though. I'd say early 2000s was the best, later 2000s is full of garbage.

The first main antagonist you see in the movie is a Spanish speaking, Hitler-esque little people screaming digs and obscenities at our 4 captured protagonists, who aren't much better people than the antagonists in the story. And then it gets weirder.
I'm a huge fan of David Dastmalchian, and I always look forward to seeing his projects. I love that it's deliberately filmed to resemble a real 70's broadcast.
They admited they used AI just to expirement with. Not to save money. And they absolutely have the budget to hire some one to make 3 illustrations that would of looked better then what we see in the movie. @@thehaydenroper
I think because it's a low budget indie film it can't afford to fight for the little guy. Makes sense to me to save money where they can. Though I understand the criticism
Same reason my parents are learning to use AI for their projects, it’s cheaper then paying an Artist for custom work when you don’t have the money to pay an artist for custom work. It’s kinda like saying “how could you go to McDonald’s when there’s the local restaurant scene” When all the local places have to charge $20+ a plate to pay rent. Only issue is some of us have to pay rent too.
Why are you holding a remote? Because that gesture is a time-honored symbol that has survived the technological revolution! It’s also why everyone (who has any class) moves their hand in a circular, cranking motion when they want someone else to roll down their car window.
One of the best original movies I've ever seen. It was just too good at really taking us back to the 1970s. The grainy 70s look, the voice, the acting, the costumes, the set design and everything was stellar. The end was a brain fuck, It didn't go the way I expected and atleast it was a surprise to me. I couldn't tell after a certain point how it was all going to end. The movie feels so incredibly fresh and its entertaining from start to finish. Great Job!

Not really. Theres a reason these aesthetics have value- same as found footage types- it evokes feelings of older, better films. Its not ballsy. Its hack now.

Good flick. Had the chills. Dastmalchian was great! But the scariest part was the character Carmichael Haig's wardrobe. People used to dress like that back in the '70s, you know. I was there. Still gives me nightmares.

@@ribottostudio Well I think it's completely opposite especially with horror. In 2020s we have bangers after bangers, 2022 was probably one of the best years in horror movie history, with many great horror movies coming out that year. I think horror is really on the up in this decade
Got to see this in the theater when it premiered with a sold out showing. The crowd got so into this it was like we were part of the studio audience. People in the theater were reacting just like the people in the movie 😂. When it was over people were clapping and cheering. Great movie.

5:07 I’m pretty sure the CGI effects were meant to have an almost comically ‘70s-style look, in keeping with the rest of the set design and the period. It’s too ‘70s-schlock to not have been a deliberate choice.

Agree on all points; this was a great hidden gem. Only other minor complaint I'd add is that it could have used a bit more cohesion. Some of the bits seemed like random ideas thrown in.
he’s such a dynamic actor, he played the polka dot man who is troubled and insecure of his abilities perfectly, and then perfectly played a charismatic evil talk show host perfectly, my new favorite actor 100%.

The feeling of being part of the audience was brilliantly done, such an original idea which is refreshing bc lately we've been getting a lot of cookie cutter movies. The actors did a great job. I will give it points for being somewhat unique and for finally giving David Dastmalchian a lead role. But if it was trying to be scary, it simply didn’t work out for me.
Loved, loved, LOVED this movie. And I think that "Cronenberg" scene was necessary to help re-enforce the idea that you can't trust your eyes. The main theme of the movie is about exposing phonies who do what they do for personal gain. Not to spoil anything but this movie is really a revenge movie. And I hope more people see it because this is the first horror movie in a long time where I want to discuss with people.
This would actually be excellent on vhs. That little bit of extra graininess would be like the finishing touch. And who knows, maybe, by sheer coincidence, your vcr will start having some troubles of its own when demon-possessed girl comes along...who's to say...

Fully agree, the *only* complaint I have with this movie is the CG special effects stood out to me in a bad way, not just in the finale but any time they were employed.
A new classic that I’m gonna be revisiting VERYYYY often. Oh my god, as an analog horror fan I think this is the closest we’ll get to what people experienced that night in their living rooms…
I loved the way this movie was shot. Found-footage movies can be great, especially when they do something different with the premise (e.g. CHRONICLE), and this excels in giving you the feeling that you are watching something we were never meant to see.
I'd love to watch a cut of this movie without the behind-the-scenes footage so we can also experience it how an audience would've experienced it as it was airing. Also, I'm curious of what they saw during the ending.
Part of me hopes for the day the VHS format makes a comeback... but then I blame that mostly on my love for the Alien franchise. Isolation made me fall in love with it again.
One of the most unsettling character introductions in Horror Movie history, imo. It’s a very interesting film, demonstrating again and with vigour: Good ideas and stories stick with you. This little flick really sticks.
My sister and I both loved this movie and on the drive home we could not stop talking about it .. Also! It made it even extra amazing that the lady 2 seats down from us brought her beautiful cat with her ❤❤❤❤❤ it was soo well behaved and never made a sound, we didn't even noticed it until after the movie had already started.. I was actually worried the cat might get scared with the movie 😅.. it was even wearing a vest or some sort of warm cloth.. it was just mega adorable!! I prefer people bring their well behaved pets to the theater instead of their children 😒😤😤😤 (like the lady who brought her infant to a 10pm showing of Evil Dead 😡😡😡😡 wtf) Anywho! Great video 😊
I got sold to watching the movie off a 5second IG ad and decided to not look anything up. Went in completely blind (aside from the premise) and it was great
My roomate and I watched this with a near empty theater. It felt like I was in front of one of a living room tv screen watching everything happen live. Few cheap looking shots but overall 8.5. It draws you in
So happy I saw this in the cinema last night, and without seeing any trailers! The audience was so engaged, felt like we were the audience in the movie!
Sounds interesting - I don't watch a lot of horror movies, but the descriptions of the retro-style filming, the acting, and the increasing suspense make me want to see this one.
Shout out to James Randi, Lengend and absolutely helped push me to realize all phycic phonomonon is probably BS. Doesnt stop me enjoying a BS inspired movie though :D
Dude what a REFRESHING movie for the horror genre right now. I loved everything about it, the campy acting, the uncomfortable undertone, the twists and even just the way they go about the cinematography was just a breath of fresh air in genre crowded with so much of the same stuff
From the acting, to the story, I felt so immersed into the story it was unreal. So good. The Lead actor was amazing, the whole feel of the film is out of this world. So good.
Perhaps this isn't my cup of tea. It feels like something out of Goosebumps but worse. Overly cheesy and mediocre in my opinion. I would've been more impressed if it were a student film or something.
my theory is that the weird electricity effects looked off on purpose because they may not necessarily have been "real". *spoilers* ... but that crazy ending paired with the skeptic proving that hypnosis can make you see things that aren't necessarily there i think lends credence to the idea that much of what we saw may have been an illusion created by the demon, with the whole halloween episode itself being an elaborate ritual started way back when Jack Delroy made the pact in the grove. i think the first signs of this actually start with the man in the skeleton costume sitting in the audience that refuses to speak, who then later shows up in the "ritual" part at the very end. We see all kinds of bizarre things right up until the part when we the audience and Jack "snap" out of it at the same time, thus releasing the demon into the world through our tv sets. Jack wished for nothing more than to be famous... but always be careful what you wish for. Just my tinfoil hat theory!!

This movie makes found footage as a genre almost useless, this is a better way of story telling while achieving the same effect for the audience
Slight spoiler but the ending where the aspect ratio and camera quality changes is legit an insane goosebump moment for me

Fully agree, the *only* complaint I have with this movie is the CG special effects stood out to me in a bad way, not just in the finale but any time they were employed.
It’s good to see David Dastmalchian receive lead roles for once. The man has talent.
A new classic that I’m gonna be revisiting VERYYYY often. Oh my god, as an analog horror fan I think this is the closest we’ll get to what people experienced that night in their living rooms…

WNUF Halloween Special did that about a decade ago.
I loved the way this movie was shot. Found-footage movies can be great, especially when they do something different with the premise (e.g. CHRONICLE), and this excels in giving you the feeling that you are watching something we were never meant to see.
I'd love to watch a cut of this movie without the behind-the-scenes footage so we can also experience it how an audience would've experienced it as it was airing. Also, I'm curious of what they saw during the ending.

i love horror movies like this where they don't use cheap jumpscares but focus more on building a scary and horrific atmosphere.
Part of me hopes for the day the VHS format makes a comeback... but then I blame that mostly on my love for the Alien franchise. Isolation made me fall in love with it again.

One of the most unsettling character introductions in Horror Movie history, imo. It’s a very interesting film, demonstrating again and with vigour: Good ideas and stories stick with you. This little flick really sticks.

My sister and I both loved this movie and on the drive home we could not stop talking about it .. Also! It made it even extra amazing that the lady 2 seats down from us brought her beautiful cat with her ❤❤❤❤❤ it was soo well behaved and never made a sound, we didn't even noticed it until after the movie had already started.. I was actually worried the cat might get scared with the movie 😅.. it was even wearing a vest or some sort of warm cloth.. it was just mega adorable!! I prefer people bring their well behaved pets to the theater instead of their children 😒😤😤😤 (like the lady who brought her infant to a 10pm showing of Evil Dead 😡😡😡😡 wtf) Anywho! Great video 😊
I got sold to watching the movie off a 5second IG ad and decided to not look anything up. Went in completely blind (aside from the premise) and it was great
I worked with the guys from Sharp FX on this film. Everything worked out fantastic and fit the film perfectly.
I think this movie will be an even better experience at home in the middle of the night.
This definitely sounds like GhostWatch by the BBC from Halloween night 1992. Really excited to check it out

My roomate and I watched this with a near empty theater. It felt like I was in front of one of a living room tv screen watching everything happen live. Few cheap looking shots but overall 8.5. It draws you in

5:03 For me it was the CGI vomit. Which doesn't scare me at all. Just makes me think "I don't want to see this". I shut the movie off soon after.

Sounds interesting - I don't watch a lot of horror movies, but the descriptions of the retro-style filming, the acting, and the increasing suspense make me want to see this one.
A James Randi reference! If you don't know who he is, you will definitely enjoy the UA-cam rabbit whole, as Jeremy said.
There's a great documentary about him called An Honest Liar. I went into the UA-cam rabbit hole for hours upon hours after that.

Dude what a REFRESHING movie for the horror genre right now. I loved everything about it, the campy acting, the uncomfortable undertone, the twists and even just the way they go about the cinematography was just a breath of fresh air in genre crowded with so much of the same stuff

From the acting, to the story, I felt so immersed into the story it was unreal. So good. The Lead actor was amazing, the whole feel of the film is out of this world. So good.
Perhaps this isn't my cup of tea. It feels like something out of Goosebumps but worse. Overly cheesy and mediocre in my opinion. I would've been more impressed if it were a student film or something.

my theory is that the weird electricity effects looked off on purpose because they may not necessarily have been "real".
*spoilers* ...
but that crazy ending paired with the skeptic proving that hypnosis can make you see things that aren't necessarily there i think lends credence to the idea that much of what we saw may have been an illusion created by the demon, with the whole halloween episode itself being an elaborate ritual started way back when Jack Delroy made the pact in the grove. i think the first signs of this actually start with the man in the skeleton costume sitting in the audience that refuses to speak, who then later shows up in the "ritual" part at the very end. We see all kinds of bizarre things right up until the part when we the audience and Jack "snap" out of it at the same time, thus releasing the demon into the world through our tv sets. Jack wished for nothing more than to be famous... but always be careful what you wish for. Just my tinfoil hat theory!!
