Oz - a real psychopath! If Vic played dead- wouldn’t be surprised - his storyline from the cop onward- he learned the game.
I just realized his mom made him promise he would let her die if she couldn’t take care of her self and anymore and he didn’t fulfill that promise. A cold piece.
Yep, that one tear rolling down her face wasn't for her seeing Oz finally make it. It was because he didn't keep that promise.

This. I’m so tired of the same ol sympathetic villain thing.
To be fair, Transformers One still keeps that sympathetic tradition with Megatron
Right, I was glad they kept letting us know he’s a piece of sh*t
Mmm but they added traits that gave us some empathy moments, so yeah, its a villain but a human demented and kinda scary one
@@nont18411yeah but Megatron has always been written as a good guy turned bad so that sympathetic writing makes sense. He wasn’t always evil and he doesn’t see himself as evil. I want the first minute of the Batman 2 to be Batman giving penguin that 4 piece combo for my boi Vic
The Penguin is gonna absolutely obliterate The Batman at the start of the movie though, trust me. That's how good storytelling works.
Penguin won’t be Batmans main adversary in part 2. He will be a side character. The main villain is undecided.
@@マウニ96 well nobody really knows that for sure, cuz the writers are still working on the script for The Batman Part II

I love how this show constantly gives you new bits and pieces of information that recontextualize what you've already seen. We think that Oz is a guy who looks out for the underdogs because that's how he wants to be seen and probably what he believes himself. By the end of Episode 8 we know he's got a twisted view of reality, is probably psychotic and most definitely only looks after himself. Great villain. I feel bad for Sophia though.
Right, he's basically the worst scumbag you could ever run across. You'd be better off running into the Riddler and that's wild
I disagree actually. I already knew he was bad news and I'm not talking normal bad news. He had no code of honor. Just pure narcissistic selfish desire.
I remember when Vic decided to stick with him I was like fuck, this guy is not gonna have a happy ending... although to the shows credit, I didn't think he was gonna off him in the first season.
Nah, Sophia is very similar to Penguin: she was created by her enviroment. They both went through somw unpleasant shit but it's the excuse that they used to become monsters
@@sathrielsatanson666 Nah.
Sophia was wronged ten ways to Sunday. Betrayed by her family. Accused of and tried for murders she had nothing to do with.
Sentenced to live in an insane asylum. Getting regular shock therapy for those ten years she was locked away.
Sophia was created. I was rooting for her get back. She didn’t disappoint.
Oz Cobb on the other hand had no origin story. No trauma to blame.
He was just a monster from the get go. Ask his brothers.
Ask Vic.
God, Cristin Milioti as Sophia Falcone was incredible. I wish Jeremy would have touched on her character and arc more. I found myself rooting the most for her towards the end and Oz's choice to frame and cage her in Arkham was up there with the coldest actions he took; a real one-two gut punch with the Vic scene coming straight after
I was rooting for Sophia the entire time since EP 2. Obviously knew Oz would come out on top in the end. Hopefully they do more with her character she was a surprise standout.
Their definitely setting something up seeing as she got a letter from catwoman.
Ironically I was rooting for her to lose since ep2. What kept me into the show was seeing penguin take her down and become the top boss.
Me toO For episode 4 Sofia became my favorite character .
And they might be setting up Dr. Rush to be The Scarecrow. In one of the scenes where he and Sophia are in his office, you can see the mask and glove on his desk.
Not seeing enough comments about Sofia falcone. Her character and the actress my favourite part of the series, fucking incredible, episode 4 one of the best episodes ever.
💯!!! The series didn't fully catch my attention until that 4th episode that showed Sophia's back story. After that episode I was all in and couldn't wait for the next episodes after each. The actress that played Sophia deserves an Emmy IMO.
She literally made the series for me. Episode 4 was my favorite episode.
She is amazing
Couldn't agree more.. Episodes 3 & 4 where the highlight of the show for me! Absolutely elite, 10/10 masterpiece level work there. There rest was great to good, but for me the show peaked at episode 4!
That's interesting. Episode 4 was the weakest for me. By weakest I mean like a 9/10 in a string of 10/10's, so not that weak lol.
rewatching the Batman after seeing this show gives you a bigger appreciation for the movie. I was one of the ones not too thrilled with it but after watching it again after watching the Penguin. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the 2nd film.

Collin Farrell absolutely crushed as the Penguin .👏
He had fun here for sure. He pulls no punches,he did similar work in "The North Water" tho.Dirty, gritty, nasty villain looks good on him.
I knew Vic wasn't going to make it out of the series, but I didn't know it was going to be in such a straight up cold and savage way. Like, Penguin couldn't even leave Vic's ID on him. Brutal. Vic was set up too much like Jason Todd for him to live but I'm really hoping that he'll be back. Justice for Vic!
I think he took his ID and money to make his death look like a robbery
I wasn't shocked by his death because I kept on thinking throughout the entire show "There's no way Oz, Vic and Sophia are all gonna make it out alive. And I hope they're not killing off Oz."
Brutal scene though. The way he's so nonchalant about it.
I think the point of Vic's death is to show just how meaningless it all can be, Vic did all of this yet his biggest mistake was completely trusting Oz. He goes from being nothing to being something than dying as another meaningless nobody even with all he accomplished. Unless they go full court of owls and have them scoop up Vic to use against the penguin he's not meant to return
There was something about the way Colin Farrel started acting after Vic said he saw him as family that made me start going "oh no; oh no oh no oh no"
Great show.
Yeah, you could see his entire demeanour change once Vic blurted out that Oz was like family to him. I mean, Oz fucking hates his family, yet desperately needs them.
Makes me wonder this, would Oz still kill Vic if he said "mentor" instead of "family"?
I know right. Oz said something like “fuck, Vic…” so I thought the same thing. Like “Oh fuck, you shouldn’t have said that”
@@HellJumper99 Oz does this for the love of the game and mostly, what comes with it. Thats what Sofia Flacone figured out when she captured Oz and his mom. I think Vic missed the opportunity to realize this when the bomb went off and the other gangs told him we are here for Bliss, not Oz
@@HellJumper99 I think sadly that it won't have mattered in the end. The family angle was only one reason that he killed him, but I think the fact that Vic knew where all the skeletons are buried, made him a danger to him. He knews too much to let be alive and could then be a problem in the future for the new "respectable" Oz. Also, the first thing he said that made me fell real worry for Vic (before the family thing) was when Oz said to him that he would never had though of bringing Link into the flod, that was a smart move he wouldn't even thinked of... For me, that also mean for Oz to think that Vic could be a treat for him in the future since he learned pretty good and maybe take is place as the boss in the future, wich is a no-no for Oz. Well, we can see that Oz had a lot of reasons to kill Vic in the end, he had to ties all the looses end...
That ending had me devastated but hyped. Unfortunately we got to wait *TWO* more years for The Batman Part II.

Watching this series the second time around, you really get to appreciate the writing on a whole other level. I think it's in my top ten of all time.
The final scene with Oz and Vic was top-tier drama and really brought me back into the "penguin IS A bad guy" mentality.
in feel all the characters are so incredibly well written. their motives are clear, their humanity is present, the struggle is shown instead of just told...ah. I loved this show.
As much as i would want to see a 2nd season, i believe it works better as a limited series, with the characters here helping to further the narrative of the next Batman movies. I would love to see Sophia's dynamic with Selina and Bruce, also Oz plotting with other canon villains. I just think if they made another whole season it would be hard to explain where the hell is Batman while everything happens....
10 out of 10 show. That said, even I thought it was a bit weird to not have Batman even make a brief cameo in season 1, but they pulled it off. However, if this show went to a season 2, Pattinson would have to join as a series regular. You couldn’t have Penguin causing as much trouble for multiple seasons and still never have Batman appear. One season was perfect.
@@Linklex7 rewatch the movie. Batman is healing lol
@@Linklex7 exactly... They should have adressed Batman from time to time, and give a reason why he's not there, that would add some tension, like he could show up at any moment, raising the stakes. The events of this season should serve as a set up for Batman 2 and not a 2nd season, i enjoyed The Penguin, but it's Batman's universe, there's only so much they can do with side characters...
@@disguisedcentennial835 that does not change the fact that it was like he did not even existed lol... He could still do something while healing, hard to believe all those things happened and he and Selina did nothing, Batman's whole thing, his "aura" is that he's omnipresent, a vigilante, crime never sleeps in Gotham, he always knows whats up, always on top of things, investigating.
You can pull off a season 2 because Penguin has enemies...All villains have enemies.
It was honestly great, way better than I was expecting. I hope they dont overdo it though. We dont need a 5 season show about the penguin. What they should do is, make these limited series, but have 1 season per villian, so the next one could the riddler, then maybe the joker etc.. and have the previous villians show up and have cameos in the future seasons.
Yoooo The Penguin is 10/10. The last episode caught me sooo off guard. It’s been a long time since a HBO show has me feeling different emotions in a good way. This was one of the darkest endings to a show i've ever seen in a long time, they did a perfect job of depicting just how scary human psychopathy really is. The writing in this show was just chef kiss.
As a season of TV the show had great writing and pacing, but as a DC fan it was truly awesome to see Colin Farrell's version of the Penguin executed so flawlessly. Big props to Cristin Milioti as well, she was brilliant as Sophia Falcone.
Gigante
Yeah, the ending was a shock, but when it's happening and you think about everything else he did in the show, it's like... yeah... and this is why he's a villain.
YES! It wasn’t some surprise twist out of left field. They laid all the groundwork and they did it beautifully ❤
Sofia could’ve easily been a character who exists to be in another bait and switch show by overshadowing Oz, but they included her the best way possible by having her be Oz’s antithesis in the criminal underworld. She has a sympathetic background, Oz doesn’t. She’s a woman of her word, Oz is manipulative. However, they both start from the bottom and have similar senses of ambition. Neither are good people, but compelling villains in their own right. Who should be rooted for is entirely up to you.
She’s a woman of her word?
Then why did she burn down her mansion after she promised to give it to the person who killed Oz?
The show was phenomenal. The writing was so good that nobody even needs to care about it being set in Batman world and its reference, Its enough on its own. Marvel and DC should aim to continue the same instead of focusing on amalgamation of superheroes.
Colin Farrel and Cristina Milioti are brilliant, really nailed their roles
Is there anything scarier than a psychopathic penguin? Well yes, obviously, but Farrell’s performance is a tour de force.
ya know the show is good, a bit slow paced but acting is top notch
but the best show for me this year is the day of the jackal no competition bro
The show has this ability to make to forgot all the chekov’s guns that are laid throughout the series, including the fact that Vic was going to 100% die and I knew this from episode 1. 10/10 show
In my opinion, I believe the show didn't have chekov's gun because the way the story is told, is with unreliable information and narration. Once you get to the end, that's when you realise that there was chekov's gun from episode 1. And that is a first for me - to realise that there was chekov's gun at the end of the story, instead of the typical beginning... Brilliant!
the ending still haunts me to this day.
that’s the highest form of compliment to the impact this show has.
Didn’t see this coming. I’m glad Jeremy dropped a review for this after his teaser 1st episode lol. This has been one of my fav shows of all time it deserves all the awards
I’ve heard reports the Batman 2 might be delayed until 2027 or 2028. That’s terrible news for me because right now this is the only superhero thing I care about!
the fact that Oz kept his mother alive, even though she asked (and Oz agreed) to not let her in vegetative state, is actually showing that Oz doesn't really love her.
he only wanted to do whatever he thinks will make her happy, whether it's right or not, including killing his two brothers so she doesn't need to worry financially.

From the first episode, I knew Vic won't make it out alive and that it will be Penguin who is going to end him. But I was shocked the way how Vic died. Penguin, that is cold blooded.
I hope the beginning of The Batman 2, Bruce sees the bat-signal, gears up, drives high speed to Penguin's penthouse, and beats him! Arkham video game style.

This is the one I wanted ya to do a weekly review on, but I’m glad we got this vid in the end, love hearing your thoughts
Remember the line from Francis Cobb in Ep 7: "Yeah. Well, some people are easy marks"
That perfectly alludes to a lot of the audience falling for the penguin's "underdog" facade. Many excused all of the heinous shit he did throughout the series right up until he killed Vic and were like "Wow. Fuck Oz!" Even though there are plenty of examples prior (gutting Ervad, ratting on Sofia which gets her sent to Arkham, burning Sal's wife and son alive and smiling about it, letting his brothers drown in the tunnels and protecting himself in that very spot from Sofia's bomb while not warning any of his men) so many people still acted so surprised Penguin mercilessly killed Victor. He played so many of us like a fiddle throughout which is what makes a man like him so dangerous. I personally switched sides by Episode 4, but I believed there was still some redeeming qualities about Oz, but by the end of the series, any sense of humanity in the Penguin is gone and we will root for him getting a can of whoop-ass by The Batman.
because nothing says "good person" like bombing the city and doing to some innocent girl the same your family did to you, which was the reason you used to kill all of them, even the ones that didn't sign anything.

As crazy as it sounds, I think Oz did care about Vic. But when Oz realized family is a weakness, he decided to cut all ties. I think he made up his mind to kill Vic when Oz broke down in the hospital and Vic "overstepped" by placing his hand on Oz's back in an attempt to console him. Damn. Chef's kiss. 😘

I saw the ending coming, as far as how Oz's mother and Vic went, but it was still a true pleasure to watch both those scenes! After having sacrificed his own brothers as a child we saw that he would eventually destroy any "family" that genuinely cared for him. That show wasn't perfect, but damn it was great to watch!
I enjoyed watching the penguin win, but I wouldn't say i was cheering for him, in fact I loved seeing pay offs on both ends of things. seeing him get what he has coming but also seeing things that he set in motion pay off for him later. Really satisfying to watch.
I've been waiting for this for soo long! Thank you!
My husband and I were watching, and … that ending … my husband suddenly said “I don’t like him anymore,” about Oz.
Perfect anti-hero to villain moment.
Our goodwill perfectly, dramatically …. spoiled
