You'll do all that stuff regardless of whom you choose XD I try to find something similar in GW2 but... nothing comes to mind... Like... maybe this: regardless of which order you pick in GW2 base campaign, the following story and content will be the same regardless of what you've picked. Grand Companies in FF14 are similar to GW2's orders (you know... the Vigil, the Order of Whispers and the Priory), but the only thing that *actually* matters... is glamour - same as in GW2 :D As for the twins... yes, they are beloved characters... but, also yes, at this particular moment in time, everyone hates them, so you're in good company XD 11:35 --- Correct. Alphianaud is a very well meaning young man, and also kind of a genius who has the equivalent of a grad school education at age 15, but he's got very little real experience, and has to mature over time, making mistakes and becoming a better person from learning from them. Kind of like how in real life when extremely educated people with no real experience try to solve problems... it usually makes it worse, even if they are well meaning. (sadly in real life very few are lol)
tin can unlocked! edit: OMG I forgot how Alphinaud's original voice actor sounded. He did a fantastic job of making Alphinaud the most hateable child. I wonder if that was his instruction for the performance. "Just be a smug rich brat."
I love the twins a lot, but Alphinaud IS kind of pompous in the beginning, and his voice is grating. But the VAs change for everyone in Heavensward because they switched studios, and the new voices are so much better honestly. Alphinaud sounds less pompous and full of himself.
I like how Alisaie kicks herself out until the Coils of Bahamut, so if you ignore that she does not appear until 3.4, so the fact that she was prickly before never registers and she is just a healthy, well-rounded person who teases Alphinaud and is also compassionate in her own way.
Awe Lil Espresso is such a cute story! Love watching your videos! Curious Gorge is a great name! and.. lore accurate... I was also disappointed that my Encyclopedia Eorzea.. didn't list Lalafell average weight, average height is 35 ilms though...! Dang it you made me look it up!
Yep I just started on Marauder/Warrior a week ago as my first foray into tanking and so far I’m having a great time. Once you get past the final boss of Realm Reborn, you should check out Blue Mage. Trust me, it is worth it.
The path to Blue Mage is one of suffering, but with the power of friendship you will unlock a class so obscenely broken that you will understand why it is restricted.
I love this series :) Your editing and sound clips are great. Something that may have already been mentioned: 1) If you're in a party with galactic, you're not getting xp from monster kills outside. 2) The mobs with the 'double-c' icon over their heads are on your hunting log :) Huge chunks of XP for killing those (unique to every base class!)
I remember trying this game, couldnt play more than 3 days got 40 lvl on warrior and then just dipped...It was giga boring. On the contrary GW 2 hooked me for good 5 months and I spent 700 hours before burning out.tldr GW2 One of the best mmos out there for sure.
I was there! But one thing to note: "Fell Demon" and Curious Gorge are not the same person. That'll be important later. And lore wise the reason it was kinda easy to begin learning Warrior is twofold. A: technically your character already had the capability in the first place. Always had the Inner Beast, just needed someone to teach you how to let it out of its cage. B: The soulstone is a powerful artifact, of which many exist, that starts off empty. They're kinda like heirlooms, except as they're passed from warrior to warrior (in this case), they absorb the memories and skills of all that have carried them before. So all that is really needed for you to draw those memories out, is to continually face challenges, that certain skills from wielders past would allow you to overcome. Kinda like a slow burn object version of the Avatar State from ATLA. Now... Not everyone can use these soulstones. Most only grant their knowledge to individuals that the memories locked inside deem worthy. There are a few exceptions, and not all work in the exact same way, but that's the basic gyst of it. Tl:dr all you need to do for a soulstone to teach you is continue to fight progressively more challenging foes. In other words, lore accurate leveling up!
I see you made the same mistake I did when it came to getting your chocobo mount. The very next MSQ would have given you the GC seals you needed to get your mount without having to go out of your way for it.
Honestly aside from the reading mixed with the occasional voice acted cut scene it hasn't been bad but I suppose that sets the stage for whats coming up soon!
Yeah, Alphinaud starts off a bit insuferable, but he gets MUCH better. Also, all the voice actors, and voice actING, change once Heavenward starts, basically all for the better.
It used to be much more involved to unlock your job. You had to be at level 30 on the ‘main’ part of the job and level 15 on another job. I believe WAR required MRD 30/LNC 15. Jobs also shared more skills with each other via the old Cross Class system. MRD had a DoT skill called Fracture, which LNC could use as well. They streamlined the whole system in I believe Stormblood, removing the cross class skills and the secondary class level requirements to unlock jobs. Things must seem a lot faster to newer players on that front.
On Classes upgrading into Jobs; originally it was intended for each class to branch off into multiple jobs, for example, the Archer becomes a Bard, but would have also branched off to Ranger. Unfortunately that idea was scrapped sometime between 2010 and 2013 and the only class to actually branch off to multiple jobs is the Arcanist which can become a Summoner or a Scholar.
For what it's worth, two things. 1 It's Merl-web, though no one cares if you get sea wolf names wrong. It's try your best and pray. 2 More a point for your last video, but FFXIV is 100% an action comedy. It is also a political thriller, and has some genuine pathos, but when it's fooling around it's fooling around. The characters might be taking it seriously, but that's just part of the joke.
Fun thing on Curious Gorge: His name makes sense lore-wise for the Roegadyn race. From the character select screen, you can chose between two types of Reogadyn, which are the Sea Wolves and the Hellsguard. The Sea Wolves are the mashing letters together people that you see in Limsa. Their names are two words put together as one. So Myrlwyb, the white fem-Roe boss of Limsa, is Myrl (which means sea) + wyb (means woman). The Hellsguard follow a similar convention, using two words to make their names, but are more tied to the modern FF14 norms on language. So, just about everyone's name is going to be a combination of an adjective + a place in nature, in this case, Curious Gorge. Koji Fox, a man who never met a pun he couldn't make, obviously took advantage of the naming conventions for all our amusement, but it makes sense lore-wise.
Seeing as multiple people are bringing up Koji Fox, you should watch the documentary of this game's 1.0 by No Clip. Be sure to have some tissues handy, though.
The voice actor's name is Sam Riegel. He plays Scanlan in both the Vox Machina campaign in Critical Role and in it's own show. And yes, he's VERY good at voicing people who you just want to punch in the face.
I'll just say "Welcome to Eorzia". You are starting out of a journey which has taken 10 years to evolve. The start is, admittedly, a bit rocky in places. To find out why that is, I recommend watching the NoClip documentary on the disastrous start and miraculous recovery of this game. In this first, base game, you might find it sometimes a bit hard to progress, but it seems you have a great commmunity forming already which will helpimmesely. We who walk before pave the way for those who come after. You're in for a wild ride.
20:31 Don't blame Yoshi-P for this one. Blame the guy who translated it and localized it, Koji Fox. In all seriousness, Koji is awesome and really brought life to the game with the localization, side elements, and local English speaking references thought the game. Plus, he contributes in other ways that you haven't seen quite yet. "Please look forward to it."
Again, loved the video. Very entertaining! A quick sidenote for the livestreams, cause I have seen it with other msq streamer: People get very excited walking beside/crowding around a streamer while they are doing msq. If you don't want this or it gets a bit too much, ask them to make a little space. Usually people are respecting this. Right now it may not seem much, but if you decide to continue down the msq road (which I hope you do *wink wink nudge nudge*) it may get overwhelming. Anyway, please more of this! :D
Please continue with the jokes, I've played this game for years and I absolutely love them. P. S. It's really cool to see people from Guild Wars 2 play the game. 😊
Ah yes, the Marauder quests are pretty silly like that and the Warrior ones in Stormblood are just hilarious! Are you planning on taking on any new jobs? With the ARR experience curve you're going to be super overlevelled by endgame. (Although I will say the level sync does stop that being too much of a problem.)
9:01 Alphinaud is a good character, but I think most people agree his original voice actor's portrayal is very punchable. I myself didn't care for Alphinaud until his VA was replaced at the start of Heavensward. It's really too bad, Sam Riegel isn't a bad voice actor and is pretty great on Critical Role, he just wasn't good as Alphinaud.
Look, hating Alphi is part of the ARR experience, he is in the middle of his "just graduated at the top of my class, im smarter than you" phase...no spoils, but the humbling of Alphinaud will happen, and he will instantly be a much more likeable character (the VA change at Heavensward also helps him seem less insufferable too)
don't worry, literally everyone hates alphinaud at the start and especially his voice, there's a voice actor overhaul starting heavensward since they changed studios from la(?) to the uk and the new voices are INFINITELY better
A very good note....always take the Allag pieces as they are worth a bit of gil. You can buy better armor and you get better armor through dungeons. Especially as you level up you'll find out that High Quality armor pieces are inexpensive.
You got to pronunciation right! FFXIV is unusual in that they have the writers and translators work together to create the story instead of just dumping a pile of text on the translators and saying 'make sense of this'. This lets the German translators suggest fantasy German names. The game is written simultaneously in German, French, English and Japanese. Everyone gets something familiar and something peculiar. French pronunciations await!
If it's for the bit, all well and good, but if not... There's a quest in Vesper Bay near the Rising Stones that will let you unlock the Glamour system. You can make your combined armor look like a normal chestplate and still see your face.
Weeeeell some of them sure are. Some of them could use a little work. I'm really frustrated by how easily they could have done some fantastic ludonarrative integration tutorializing in the Black Mage job questline but... that's a very long and incoherent rant for another time.
Because you mentioned the voice of the smug kid, I just wanted to point out seeing that you came from GW2 that you may recognize that voice. It is the same the voice actor as Braham's aka Sam Riegel.
Honestly hearing you hate on Alphinaud for being a pompous little prick is very funny because yes he is one of my favorites now but boy does he deserve to be punted in his first appearance. He becomes a LOT more likeable in Heavensward-onwards.
9:10 Does someone want to tell him or do we just let him find out alone? Edit: also, if you wanted a greater challenge for unlocking stuff, the original game evidently had a lot of gates around classes and abilities. It is wild to hear at from someone who started in Shadowbringers.
9:10 don't worry too much, hating him is part of the journey

There's a list of ancient Reogadyn words and their English meaning on the wiki.
3:07 --- Raptor kittens" - noted. This is gold XD
10:25 --- Someone probably already said this: no, the speaches are no indication of what the Grand Companies ask of you if you join either of them. You'll do all that stuff regardless of whom you choose XD I try to find something similar in GW2 but... nothing comes to mind... Like... maybe this: regardless of which order you pick in GW2 base campaign, the following story and content will be the same regardless of what you've picked. Grand Companies in FF14 are similar to GW2's orders (you know... the Vigil, the Order of Whispers and the Priory), but the only thing that *actually* matters... is glamour - same as in GW2 :D
As for the twins... yes, they are beloved characters... but, also yes, at this particular moment in time, everyone hates them, so you're in good company XD
11:35 --- Correct. And you'll worship her accordingly, mark my words! XD XD XD
12:35 --- I didnt pick up on that -.- Took me ages to figure it out >.<
19:25 --- "We arived at Costa del Sol..." - me: thats Wineport... XD
21:08 --- And Gorge isnt even a pirate ^^°
21:30 --- XD XD XD XD Accurate! XD Gold and accurate! XD
As I said: just as in GW2, the Grand Companies... its all about which glamour you like best :D
every time alphinaud speaks in the english ARR voice I can only think "Thank you Sam Riegel."
Legit that was my sentiment! His voice just annoyed me! Felt like he was saying "pathetic !" With each conversation
@CaffeinatedDad to be fair...he basically was haha. He's got the biggest character arc coming.
I love the twins a lot, but Alphinaud IS kind of pompous in the beginning, and his voice is grating. But the VAs change for everyone in Heavensward because they switched studios, and the new voices are so much better honestly. Alphinaud sounds less pompous and full of himself.
It’s funny because Alphinaud in AAR is voiced by Sam Riegel, aka. Scanlan from Vox Machina.
Don’t worry, you’ll like Alphie and his sister eventually. They grow up a lot in the course of the game.
But yeah, serious nepo-baby energy rn.
I like how Alisaie kicks herself out until the Coils of Bahamut, so if you ignore that she does not appear until 3.4, so the fact that she was prickly before never registers and she is just a healthy, well-rounded person who teases Alphinaud and is also compassionate in her own way.
I have actually enjoyed picking on him lol I know even less of his sister who straight up dipped!
Don't like a pun in FF14, blame Koji Fox. Thal's Balls!
Not mad. Not at all. This is golden and Alphinaud is such a punchable butt in ARR
Welcome! Looking forward to you crying at some point!
W-what if we kissed under the freezing waterfall? 😳👉👈
ACCURATE REACTION TO ANY CHARACTER SAM RIEGAL VOICES! XD
I was just guestimating! And I appreciate the kind words!
Ngl if u do the whole story with this energy I'll watch it all
I would love to be conquered by the Garlic Bread Empire tbh. 😂
Yo there are worse things..
Yep I just started on Marauder/Warrior a week ago as my first foray into tanking and so far I’m having a great time. Once you get past the final boss of Realm Reborn, you should check out Blue Mage. Trust me, it is worth it.
I actually am curious of blue mage because it does look interesting. Maybe something I will do in the future!
The path to Blue Mage is one of suffering, but with the power of friendship you will unlock a class so obscenely broken that you will understand why it is restricted.
Man your video editing, commentary and quips are great. Really enjoying this
Tbh, it's really entertaining to hear your version side of story telling. 😅
Hey I'm glad! I have been really enjoying making these videos!
Iirc, ARR Alphinaud is Sam Riegel!
I don't know wny people told you to pronounce Merlwyb with a "v", voice acted scenes clearly say "Muhrl-web" countless times throughout the game
I have said Meryl Street, and Meryl Webster dictonary... I can't help it!
@@CaffeinatedDad I can't even lie I just call her "the admiral" lmao
Try not to get attached to the voices in a realm reborn, they change in the first expansion and stay like that from then on
Yes I love how everything in this game is tied to quests and story from all the side content to blue content unlock quests to endgame content
I love this series :) Your editing and sound clips are great.
Something that may have already been mentioned:
1) If you're in a party with galactic, you're not getting xp from monster kills outside.
Class quests stop by lvl 70, but they kinda go like that, a couple of quests capping at level cap
I see you made the same mistake I did when it came to getting your chocobo mount. The very next MSQ would have given you the GC seals you needed to get your mount without having to go out of your way for it.
the voice acting in this part of the game is... less than ideal. it gets better
Honestly aside from the reading mixed with the occasional voice acted cut scene it hasn't been bad but I suppose that sets the stage for whats coming up soon!
@18:35 I just noticed you’ve been calling Papalymo “Baba Meow”. Is this a Sagwa reference?
"but i auto corrected his name" and I do not dislike this at all.
It made sense to me!
If Curious Gorge already kills you, you should check out the names of the Achievements and FATEs all over the place XD
Alphinaud’s VA in ARR is Sam Riegel. He’s in GW2 all over the place, but you would know him as Braham.
Seeing as multiple people are bringing up Koji Fox, you should watch the documentary of this game's 1.0 by No Clip. Be sure to have some tissues handy, though.
Worst of the big MMOs out there. Even MMORPG for mobile phones are way interesting and well executed than that pile of mediocrity.
Nah, his name is Kyuriasu Gooji in the Japanese too. This isn't just in localisation lmfao
Look, hating Alphi is part of the ARR experience, he is in the middle of his "just graduated at the top of my class, im smarter than you" phase...no spoils, but the humbling of Alphinaud will happen, and he will instantly be a much more likeable character (the VA change at Heavensward also helps him seem less insufferable too)
ARR voice actors were so off XD But Alphinaud was voiced by Sam from Critical Role. He's had better roles than this one XD
don't worry, literally everyone hates alphinaud at the start and especially his voice, there's a voice actor overhaul starting heavensward since they changed studios from la(?) to the uk and the new voices are INFINITELY better
Him running past the hunting log mark at 1:28 *[physically]* hurt me ><
But glad you're having fun with XIV!! :D
If you spam through your quest too fast again and want to read what you missed, you can click "Event" in your bottom-left chat box to read it again.
Ah time for the FFXIV UA-cam commenter backseat gamers try not to spoil the whole game challenge *impossible*
Honestly hearing you hate on Alphinaud for being a pompous little prick is very funny because yes he is one of my favorites now but boy does he deserve to be punted in his first appearance. He becomes a LOT more likeable in Heavensward-onwards.
oh I realized you play on goblin, welcome lol
Yup. Elf is plenty of people's favorite character.
And yes, everyone hates his guts at first.
You do understand the irony of your Darth Vader squad comments while doing missions with Biggs and Wedge, right?
9:10 Does someone want to tell him or do we just let him find out alone?
Edit: also, if you wanted a greater challenge for unlocking stuff, the original game evidently had a lot of gates around classes and abilities. It is wild to hear at from someone who started in Shadowbringers.
Alphinaud gets better eventually, but this is absolutely peak "want to punch him in the face until he stops talking" time
Naw, even Alphinaud stans hate his ARR voice. It changes for the better in the first expansion.
Everyone hates early EN Alphi voice, the character being a know it all brat doesn't help much either
