As such, if G'alactica had not been in your group you would not have pulled all those mobs as a group and wouldn't have died. 😅You usually only pull one mob if they are the same level as you.

FATES used to be so great when there were large crowds of players all on the same content. It made leveling so dynamic, as you would constantly be switching between MSQ, and hunting down FATES that either crossed your path, or were high reward. Large groups clearing FATES is something I really miss from the ARR era
@@CaffeinatedDad yes and know...starting in shadowbringers they introduced the shared fate system which incentivizes doing them at the begining of an expansion but once everyone has maxed out the rank in each zone there is not much reason to do them after that because there are better ways to level up

If you flat out don't like FFXIV, I actually wouldn't recommend continuing, but if it's at least tolerable then keep giving it a try! Even today, the base game is a real patchwork; classes and their jobs for example started life as either playing the base version and having access to more abilities from other classes or playing the (flat out better) advanced version with less "cross-class" access. Now it's basically vestigial, but it's still here because mechanically and lore-wise it's part of the foundation
2 things. 1: there is a flying pig mount, unfortunately its in shadow bringer and not part of the trial. 2: Learning skills. They have gona back and forward with learning skills . For marauder and all other base classes you learn them as you level to 50. But jobs (Warrior, white mage etc) only learn skills through the job quests from 30 -70. After that they just learn them from leveling up. So after 30 you really want to keep up with the job quests as you level.

Glad you picked Limsa first. I love ybr opening dialog at the Adventure's guild. Another popular kone you miss out on is if you start in Ul'Dah. And the NPC thanks you and exolaons the best purpose of your task, "i find a nice treat helps a lot when you want to kill yourself." Or something along those.lones.
I just recently started this game again and man this gave me such a good laugh when I realize how goofy stuff can be in this game thanks for the good laugh man hope you're still playing!
experience was harder to come by back when the game launched, and the story is paced to match that. Getting to level 15 and related quests took a lot longer, and involved clearing out at least half the sidequests on a given map in order to hit the required level-- and that's even when taking into account the higher number of quests the base game used to have. That's why they treat you like a hero-- at that point in the OG game you'd have been going out of your way to help and protect the populace for a significant amount of time; you'd be popular.
Love the view of a sprout's expierence like this! The mispronounciations are having me in stitches! I've been playing 2015 so it's nice to see the changes made to MSQ in ARR since then. You will eventually get the ability to ride a mount yourself, also like a typical JRPG you were essentially in the tutorial phase of the game until you finished the first 3 dungeons. So you'll find that it will start being more interesting! Also I suggest going to Western Thanalan to unlock Glamour if you haven't already.
I'm sure someone told you already but basically all you did in Limsa before becoming an envoy is specific to starting in that city. If you start in Gridania Y'Shtola is replaced by Papalymo and Ilda while in Uldah you get to meet Thankred instead. I'm glad you got a kick out of how goofy and cheesy the beginning of the game is because that's supposed to be the part that makes people quit early.
About character creation affecting the story. There are tiny changes in dialogue sometimes depending on race and gender, and the class you pick decides your starting town. The rest is completely irrelevant to the story and only there for looks and RP. The guardian deity used to give you elemental stat buffs, but elemental damage was removed a few years ago so now it's just for RP purposes. So people can just go with whatever they like best. (Technically there are miniscule stat differences between races but they basically only effect .01% of your DPS at higher levels at most and if you really really want to you can adjust your BIS to mitigate the racial stat differences)
Glad you liked it! Come swing on by Balmung sometime. Limsa is... different. 8:30 Really nailed it about the accent. 13:40 Should see Ninja sprint :D 14:20
12:59 Fun fact: G'alactica was responsible for your aggro problem. They were linked because you were in the same party and normally they don't aggro at level 1 but because G'alactica was 90, you got additional mobs. 19:09 Again, G'alactica's fault for screwing you over. 21:03 I'm suprised you didn't get a lift from G'alactica -- there are mounts that allow 2, 4 and 8 people
It's fun to watch this. I started this game 3 days ago. I've chosen an archer as I do enjoy playing support classes. It's been such a unique experience so far. I'm completely loving it! Plus I like how I don't have to create a separate character and that everything can be done on one. I've come from GW2, SWTOR and LOTRO (LOTRO I think is a similar journey). This Is just a breath of fresh air. The content is really enjoyable and it's a lot of fun to just explore and experience. I've never been a Final Fantasy fan, I've played a couple of the games in the past but I think I'll have to take a further look into the franchise. Great music too 😊
Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself! I found it a perfectly serviceable MMO when I started and had a lot of fun. It also has the best crafting system I've ever seen in an MMO. Using the same multi-class job system for crafting is fantastic; you get gear and stats for crafting and gathering, there's a decent little mini-game for crafting, and it allows quests to give crafting XP so it's not just "Buy a stack of copper and make 50 useless belts". The crafting gear is also completely competitive with end-game progression gear, giving people options for end-game content.
You're forgetting the MOST vital part about crafting my good sir or madam. That which is a pillar of this game, one that is so important the game might well not survive. You have forgotten about the FASHION!!! ...and all the furniture for housing I guess, but regardless!
@@davidcollins9213 True, but honestly, the number of non-progression rewards in the game is a major part of keeping old content relevant. Fashion, furniture, Triple Triad cards, crafting mats, Orchestrions, Chocobo barding, mounts, emotes, titles and effects are all timeless rewards. Along with level synched combat, duty roulettes and the job system, there's always people willing to run old dungeons, trials and raids.
Not related to the story but just wanted to share some knowledge as a sea-faring girl! Dry docks are where you remove boats from the water and complete repairs (or weatherize/winter storage, where applicable). They are dry purposefully. It seems really strange I know but they have an essential purpose. :)
I'm happy that you ended up liking the story considering it'll just get better and better! Hope you'll keep playing to get to those really amazing stories and group raids!

"Every mount can fly." The best mount by far, in my opinion, is the fat chocobo. It's a, well... a fat chocobo. You ride on its back and control where it goes by dangling a cabbage from a string in front of its face. Once you gain the ability to fly, though, you get it to fly (with its little tiny wings) by replacing the cabbage with a piece of cake.
Originally, they had separate categories for flying and non-flying mounts. But then they realized nobody ever used the non-flying mounts, so they just made all of them fly.
Welcome to Final Fantasy XIV ^^ There's a lot of things I could comment and say about your experience, my experience, and everything in between, but I wi ll only say this: If you are having fun, the game is doing its job, because that is what a game should be all about: Having fun. So, I hope you keep playing Final Fantasy XIV, as the game is pretty good in my opinion, but most importantly, I hope you keep having fun XD
Oh it's really nice to see you giving this game a try, the story in Realm Reborn is actually just a lot of information about the world and a big build up for the long "acutel story" to come, unfortunately it might not keep you on the same level of entertainment of you start skipping, but just know that these are 10+ years old writing, and the newer expansions are much much well made and written. I hope to see more of your journey, and I hope you fully enjoy it as well!

Race pronunciations if you care to know them: 1) HYUR! (exactly as it's written, but you gotta shout it!) 2) Elezen, pretty much as written on the tin 3) lah-lah-fell, again pretty much as written on the tin 4) me-co-tay 5) row-guh-den 6) awe-rah But, of course, Final Fantasy 14 is all about having fun your way, so if you want to pronounce them however you want, go for it! Good video.
One small little note, the way those initial few enemies were "linked" together is actually because you were grouped with Galactic. That kind of mob-link doesn't happen for the first few levels, so that the Goobue incident you had to be rescued from doesn't happen.
If you want funny and relaxed experiance you made the perfect choice in marauder. Their quest line is insanely funny and its the most chill tank in the game. Few fun facts/tips: - basically every Roegadyn name is a pun or joke and weirdly easier to read if you have dyslexia - teleporting is expensive at the start, but becomes cheap very quickly (plus you dont need gil for much during leveling or at all if you willing to craft), you can also take ships between maps not only taxi chocobos - Mamool Ja are chameleon people, Sahagin are fish people - you have found HUD layout options but bunch of HUD options are hidden in settings, you can hide empty slots on hot bars or the arrows for switching hotbars, make nameplates display differently based on instance/group/combat, displaying job icons on plates, colors based on roles... there is a lot of customization you can do (sadly) hidden like 15 menus deep into settings gl hf
It bodes extremely well if you already like the story. Each expansion gets better with its own focuses and themes while continuing one large story. The next expansion, Dawntrail, is set to mark the beginning of a brand new story to be told as Endwalker ends the story you're currently experiencing.
Oooo that's exciting! It is quite a bit of reading as I mentioned but it I'd great to see the development of me being kinda of a nobody into a warrior of light
I hope you make more of these vids on 14, this is so funny and it’s been a bit since I’ve seen someone enjoy the opening so much! (Not that it’s bad it’s just everything afterwards is just so much better) and I’m excited to see your reactions to everything else if you do continue!
This video was hilarous, and I loved it! Something that might not have been noted. The reason that high lvl mob aggroed you was because you were in a group with your high lvl friend. If you're higher level than the mobs, they'll start linking together. If you were solo, they wouldn't link.
Also, all mounts can fly, because Square Enix doesn't want you to have to shelf "beloved" mounts, because they can't fly. Warcraft had a problem like this with a lot of people's favorite mounts being ground only, like the Spectral Tiger. I have noticed that a lot of the newer mounts, like the Valetine's day one gives them wings and allows them to fly. It's a nice QoL touch. Another example of Square's silly QoL is that there's no breath meter for swimming. If you're diving underwater, you simply breathe through magical means. So it's impossible to drown outside of combat mechanics.
Watching you aggro the whole pirate camp because your friend was in your party, but not helping was either intentional trolling, or incompetence, lol. Again, they wouldn't have aggroed if he wasn't literally in your party. Him being in your group is intentionally making combat more challenging.
not sure why I'm watching this as a person who's played this game religiously for three years, but I'm always glad to see new sprouts getting into the game. :) And yes- the game (at least the Main Scenario Quest anyway) is VERY story focused and requires a ton of reading. like, it's a borderline visual novel at times. but then when you're done with the novel you get to hang out with your friends in the cool world you've been reading about.
I've been playing since 2016, it's my home mmo, it's my main, I love it. I met so many wonderful amazing people in the game. The story really is amazing.
The overworld enemies are ganging up on you because you're in a party with a higher level player! They start doing that when someone, you or another player, in the party exceeds their levels by a certain amount
Right. A few things-you will be considered a sprout until you reach the current expansion (it’s actually current expansion + 200 hours, but it takes well over 200 hours of playtime to reach the current expansion unless you buy a story skip; people can actually tell if you bought a story skip because you would have a sprout symbol on current expansion content). Second-the vast majority of dungeons (and trials, which are boss fights) are tied to the main story quest. There are some that are not, which are all technically optional but even some of the technically optional dungeons are important for game progression reasons. During the postgames of ARR and each expansion, there are several TRULY optional dungeons. The truly optional dungeons in the ARR postgame have some of the most unique boss mechanics in the entire game; the developers were experimenting a bit when they drew up the dungeons, and unlike the required dungeons, the optional dungeons were never revamped to match current dungeon design. Third-if you’re running dungeons for the first time (or even the first time on a given class/job/role), let the rest of your party know. They’ll usually be extremely willing to give you pointers on boss mechanics and/or job mechanics.
Great timing! I've only recently watch you through your path of exile playthrough and now you're playing my all time favorite MMO. I'm excited for your next video of this game!
Definitely gained a sup. The video was super funny but what grabbed me in was the fact that you tried my favorite game honestly and fairly. Thank you for playing ff14 and welcome
Fun fact: there’s an item that can change your character’s race, gender and whole appearance that you can earn a couple of in ARR as well as buy from the cash shop.
You will notice at the start there's more reading, but as you get into the DLCs, there's more cutscenes and voice acting compared to the start. And genuinely the experience just get better and better for each DLC you go through.

As such, if G'alactica had not been in your group you would not have pulled all those mobs as a group and wouldn't have died. 😅You usually only pull one mob if they are the same level as you.
well according to all the comments here its commen knowledge, and the one piece of commen knowledge that has escaped me for 4 years it seems 💀
Gotta get that challenging experience! Lol Galactic has been a huge help!
@@GalacticW I learned this the hard way when a friend of mine got eviscerated 3 times in a row in central shroud by a giant bird that jumped down a cliff to get to them
It baffles me that the only name you got right was Merlwyb's. The single one that I still can't pronounce right a decade later.
FATES used to be so great when there were large crowds of players all on the same content. It made leveling so dynamic, as you would constantly be switching between MSQ, and hunting down FATES that either crossed your path, or were high reward. Large groups clearing FATES is something I really miss from the ARR era
I'm guessing based off of that it isn't as prevalent in later expansions?
@@CaffeinatedDad yes and know...starting in shadowbringers they introduced the shared fate system which incentivizes doing them at the begining of an expansion but once everyone has maxed out the rank in each zone there is not much reason to do them after that because there are better ways to level up
@@CaffeinatedDad They never stopped making FATEs, and they actually have gone out of their way to give more incentives to actually do them. Later expansions are more likely to have people doing FATEs in their zones. That being said, they're still not super popular and you're not likely to find a big group of people doing them unless they're trying to get one of the rare Achievement FATEs to spawn.
People still group to do them, but it's most coordinated through discord. I do some sometimes.

you not knowing the Elezens nickname is giraffe makes this even better
Even on the free trial, there's a TON of great story and group content available. If you're already into the story thus far, you are in for a TREAT. It literally only gets better and better. Regularly regarded as some of the best writing in any game, mmo or not.
This was an absolute joy to watch! I really love your take on the game so far and am very much hoping you continue along. It's a long journey, but one that is absolutely worth taking.
I plan on putting a few adventures in moving forward! It's been fun thus far!
I'm taking "M Kote" as my prefered way of saying that now. XD
It's even funnier when "kot" means "cat" in your native tongue.
Heads up: The Further you get into the game, the more (and better) Voice Acting the game provides!
By the time you are in Endwalker, it has 16 HOURS of Voiced Cutscenes in the Base Expansion alone!
I believe Excluding the Raids & Side Content, there is about 70 Hours of Voiced Cutscenes alone in the MSQ up to 6.55.
Someone told me that it is basically a video game novel that you live within. Honestly thats exciting to look forward to!
all the mounts fly bc back in the day they didn't, only mounts for whom it made sense to fly could fly, which also meant if your favourite mount was like, a horse or something you could go pound sand bc it couldn't fly and it sucked 💀 also some mounts that SHOULD have been able to fly for some reason couldn't, like the swing that was suspended with balloons. anyway they made it so all mounts could fly even though sometimes it's silly
Galactic said it was integrated into the story just like, "we don't know why but everything can fly now "
@@CaffeinatedDadthey attempt to explain it by saying it can fly because you've "attuned to the aetherial winds" in an area. But it really just isn't worth thinking too hard about.
As a player, I'm glad you at least gave it a shot. If you continue to play, I hope you enjoy yourself!
Can't honestly critique a game if I haven't played it! I am going to put some more time in however!
Kan-E-Senna is a padjal, a very rare race of goat horned ageless beings who are only born from other races when the Elementals decide to make that happen.
Padjals serve as spiritual leaders of gridania, communicate with the Elementals, and are also the guardians of White Magic, which is considered just as dangerous as Black Magic
I hope there will be more videos of this game on your channel!
I'm planning on putting a couple more!
@@CaffeinatedDad Only a couple? :(
@Toksyuryel well to be honest it depends of this series gets traction. My goal is to be a full time content creator!
@@CaffeinatedDad the FF14 community loves new player reactions to the story it will get some traction but be aware that most won’t stay once you are done with the story if you decide to stay that long. But I hope you have a fun experience nonetheless
@@CaffeinatedDadI'm sure it will, your general innocence of the final fantasy universe and unique take on the story will definitely grab the attention of people.
i was not ready to see you were located on Goblin because i recognized everyone who was idle near the Aetherites
Ha! Yeah I'm on goblin because that's where Galactic told me to go!
i'm glad to hear you're enjoying it! new players are always fun to see experiencing the game, and it's always funny to see their perspective on things; i hope you keep progressing and enjoying it! as a note, as you get higher levels and unlock more dungeons, you're able to replay dungeons unsynced which lets you play through dungeons without being level synced which lets you farm trials and such for mounts later on once you unlock them. it's worth doing with friends, i find. lot of fun.
Galactic explained that a bit to me, but I actually missed doing group content, honestly. Gw2 didn't really intrigue me in that way
I'm glad you had such a good time! I'm a fairly recent convert to FFXIV myself and I've been enjoying it thoroughly. It's the first time I've played a tank or healer where it really FELT like I was tanking and healing as my main role.
I actually like the idea of this being a locked role like this is your job and your job only. Good feeling!
@@CaffeinatedDad It's very satisfying! I came off a couple of MMOs where the differences between jobs were fairly minimal and having my healer actually BE A HEALER is just the best feeling!
If you liked the story at the beginning -which is not far from its lowest- then oh boi you are in for a ride because it gets SPICY

Glad you're trying out my favorite mmo! The game gradually gets better and better over 200 solid hours. It's very different than GW2 but I always keep coming back to this game.
Great thing about the "Warrior[s] of Light" of old: They are 1.0 Players before Square nuked it so ARR could be made from a mostly clean slate.
I’m a veteran player from 1.0 beta and absolutely love watching new players give 14 a go. Stay on the free trail for as long as you can muster but honestly, i love the way new players pronounce things. 😂 genuinely gives me a giggle. Enjoy the game and welcome to Eorzea
There's more and more voice acted cutscenes with each additional expansion.
Ooo that's great! I liked the voice acted cut scenes probably the most!

Ha! Galactic has been trying to convert me to FF14 for years now and I only just conceded!
I started back in September. I'm now about to start EndWalker. 355 hours so far.
This game is easily one of my favorite of all time as of now. And probably has my favorite story of the series.
Also RIP papa meow. Those who know, well.... Know lol
Lol it's like papmylo or something close I couldn't quite remember
Glad you picked Limsa first. I love ybr opening dialog at the Adventure's guild.
Another popular kone you miss out on is if you start in Ul'Dah. An NPC asks you to give out cookies to some bored and tired soldiers who are stationed nearby on lookout.
Almost 1400 hours in, I can tell you the game only gets better the longer you play.
I put another 5 hours in and it has Been great!
experience was harder to come by back when the game launched, and the story is paced to match that.
Also I suggest going to Western Thanalan to unlock Glamour if you haven't already.
.-.. ... I had completely blanked on that Alphi arrived on the same boat as us. Neat.
Glad to see you enjoyed it, and I look forward to a sequel video!
Coming soon! It's been good fun thus far!
Goblin is my home world! Glad you enjoyed playing...hope you keep at it!
That's the plan! Next journey episode is out next week!
13:40 Should see Ninja sprint :D

As someone whos name is memorialized in the credits, welcome to ff14. Beautiful journey.
I'm looking forward to it! Thank you!
12:59 Fun fact: G'alactica was responsible for your aggro problem. They were linked because you were in the same party and normally they don't aggro at level 1 but because G'alactica was 90, you got additional mobs.
19:09 Again, G'alactica's fault for screwing you over.
21:03 I'm suprised you didn't get a lift from G'alactica -- there are mounts that allow 2, 4 and 8 people
Galactic is there to be my guide! Whether or not he was helpful remains to be seen lol
@@CaffeinatedDad Have G'alactica make a Cross World Party. All the benefits of being in chat but no group aggro problems.
Great music too 😊
Wait until you get to the Manderville questline once you hit lvl 50. Some of the funniest content I've seen in a game in a long time. A+
Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself!
I want more of these videos! I thoroughly enjoy watching you play and hearing your perspective 😊
Not related to the story but just wanted to share some knowledge as a sea-faring girl! Dry docks are where you remove boats from the water and complete repairs (or weatherize/winter storage, where applicable). They are dry purposefully. It seems really strange I know but they have an essential purpose. :)

So cool to see someone else's first steps through FF14. Makes me feel super nostalgic lol. Trust me, you'll love this game! And if laughs are what you're after, just wait until you get some of the later quests.
The Manderville quest line is an absolute treat lol.
I had the same reaction to the "Lesser" gargoyle as you did back when I first played.
Dude was huge for a lesser.. geez!
"Every mount can fly."
The best mount by far, in my opinion, is the fat chocobo. It's a, well... a fat chocobo. You ride on its back and control where it goes by dangling a cabbage from a string in front of its face. Once you gain the ability to fly, though, you get it to fly (with its little tiny wings) by replacing the cabbage with a piece of cake.
It's these details that are incredible lol
Longtime FFXIV player, loved your take on it. Hope you keep playing and keep enjoying!
Hey, thanks! I had a great time stepping into this game!
Originally, they had separate categories for flying and non-flying mounts. But then they realized nobody ever used the non-flying mounts, so they just made all of them fly.
And then built it into the lore! That's so damn cool!
Welcome to Final Fantasy XIV ^^
There's a lot of things I could comment and say about your experience, my experience, and everything in between, but I wi ll only say this: If you are having fun, the game is doing its job, because that is what a game should be all about: Having fun. So, I hope you keep playing Final Fantasy XIV, as the game is pretty good in my opinion, but most importantly, I hope you keep having fun XD
Thus far totally enjoying myself! It's been. Alot of fun!
Love your commentary and little pop up texts (yes I read them all :P). Welcome, enjoy your stay!
Only your starting class will determine starting town. you begin the game arriving at said town on a cart, so you might not even live there anyway.
oh god i remember when selecting the god you follow the closest *actually* had an effect on your elemental affinity. Now I feel old.
You, my good sir, are friggin hilarious. This vid was a treat.
I'm looking forward to your next videos. ;)
Unironically, if you got a controller lying around I'd 100% recommend checking out the game's controller support.
9:00 Lol gotta love the friends that stalk you and fly around to follow you as you do your MSQ. I do it to my friends too and now fly them around when needed with the FFXV car mount.

Race pronunciations if you care to know them:
1) HYUR! (exactly as it's written, but you gotta shout it!)
2) Elezen, pretty much as written on the tin
3) lah-lah-fell, again pretty much as written on the tin
4) me-co-tay
5) row-guh-den
6) awe-rah
But, of course, Final Fantasy 14 is all about having fun your way, so if you want to pronounce them however you want, go for it! Good video.
One small little note, the way those initial few enemies were "linked" together is actually because you were grouped with Galactic. That kind of mob-link doesn't happen for the first few levels, so that the Goobue incident you had to be rescued from doesn't happen.
"My Christian eyes!" 😂
Just spend a bit of time around Limsa Lominsa's main aetheryte.
Oh... I know what you mean... lol
If you want funny and relaxed experiance you made the perfect choice in marauder. Their quest line is insanely funny and its the most chill tank in the game.
Few fun facts/tips:
- basically every Roegadyn name is a pun or joke and weirdly easier to read if you have dyslexia
- teleporting is expensive at the start, but becomes cheap very quickly (plus you dont need gil for much during leveling or at all if you willing to craft), you can also take ships between maps not only taxi chocobos
- Mamool Ja are chameleon people, Sahagin are fish people
- you have found HUD layout options but bunch of HUD options are hidden in settings, you can hide empty slots on hot bars or the arrows for switching hotbars, make nameplates display differently based on instance/group/combat, displaying job icons on plates, colors based on roles... there is a lot of customization you can do (sadly) hidden like 15 menus deep into settings
gl hf
My partner still uses chocobos in Endwalker as a nice way to take a quick break instead of going AFK. So much laundry has been folded to that music.
@@CaffeinatedDad Fortunately, the game's success with each expansion has allowed them to include more and more voicework into the main story.
Can't wait to see what you report back with your next vid! Hope you have fun!
Can't wait! I've been enjoying myself quite a bit!
I have seen that! Quite often it seems like the more Galactic is with me the more pain I am in...
IM digging your channel and Id love to watch more vids about your experience in the game
not sure why I'm watching this as a person who's played this game religiously for three years, but I'm always glad to see new sprouts getting into the game. :)
And yes- the game (at least the Main Scenario Quest anyway) is VERY story focused and requires a ton of reading. like, it's a borderline visual novel at times. but then when you're done with the novel you get to hang out with your friends in the cool world you've been reading about.
As a veteran of the game, this was really fun to watch. Thank you
I've been playing since 2016, it's my home mmo, it's my main, I love it. I met so many wonderful amazing people in the game. The story really is amazing.
I've heard that tons of times so it makes me all the more interested!
The overworld enemies are ganging up on you because you're in a party with a higher level player! They start doing that when someone, you or another player, in the party exceeds their levels by a certain amount
Thanks Galactic for making me suffer!
