The cool thing about new jobs in FF14 is that there's a passive exp boost for any job you have whose level is lower than the highest level job you have. It's called an Armory Bonus and it's a 100% boost until you hit level 80 at which point it's 50%. It's their way of encouraging people to try different jobs and not feel like they have to stick to one class because it'll take too long to catch up with another.

With a new expansion coming up, this is actually relevant info for everyone who has already leveled everything again and a reminder to TAKE ONE JOB THROUGH MSQ FIRST TO 100 and then go back and do the rest after that.

Ironically, you're following the 'official' jobs so far. Each expansion has it's 'canon' Warrior of Light job, shown in the trailer. ARR is Warrior, Heavensward is Dragoon, Stormblood gets two, Monk and Samurai, Shadowbringers is Dark Knight, and Endwalker is Paladin. Dawntrail is going to be one of the new classes, Viper.
You don't usually get anything special from actually playing one of those classes, but Heavensward is a little unique, in that you'll get some MAJOR lore in your class quests that's going to be big for the story. If I was able to have a do-over, I'd definitely do the Dragoon class quests before starting HW, and I'm eager to see how different it plays out starting out experiencing all that, instead of just getting generic cliffnotes that you get with other classes.
As an aside, starting in Shadowbringers, and continued onwards from there, they no longer do class quests, and instead have 'Role' quests. Shadowbringers has Tank, Healer, Physical DPS, and Magical DPS role quests, while Endwalker has Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, and Magical DPS. They are, for the most part, optional, but you do unlock a whole extra questline if you do all four/five of them.

There are so many things to unlock! Galactic told me about the "main jobs" for each of the expansions, and I'm excited to see how they all fit out!

HW also gives you specific dialogue acknowledging you as an Azure Dragoon during the main story if you’ve leveled DRG. I always make sure I’ve done the level 50 job quest on DRG before going in to HW.

    • @Shiirow
      @Shiirow 5 місяців тому +1

@@CaffeinatedDad most of them are just thematic, like Endwalker is Paladin because it was inspired in part by FF4 where the main character becomes a Paladin. While HW they did have some minor MSQ dialogue changes and a few characters who would normally call you Warrior of Light, actually call you Azure Dragoon instead, if you finished the lv 50 DRG job quest before entering HW.

Then again, I am always excited when someone picks up dragoon because it is my favorite class, and has one of the best characters in the job quests (caution: VERY biased opinion) 😁
I really hope you will enjoy the class!

If you keep this trend, going through each expansion with it's 'Box Cover' job, you might really enjoy that.
Especially because with Dark Knight being the job for Shadow Bringers, you'll get a taste for the shift in writing before you hop into the expansion

Eyyy dragoon is one of my favorites.
A tip: if you have all the expansions, you can unlock any job whose quest you have access to as soon as you reach their starting level. This means that when you hit level 50 you could get red mage and samurai, which *start* at level 50. The same is true for gunbreaker and dancer at 60, and sage/reaper at 70. It's a good way to see some other jobs without committing really any time to them.

    • @CaffeinatedDad

@@CaffeinatedDad Iirc since you're still on the free trial which now includes the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions, you can already unlock Red Mage and Samurai since you already have a job at lvl 50 via Warrior.
Unfortunately with how Heavensward was initially designed, you still won't be able to unlock Machinist, Astralogian, and Dark Knight until you actually reach that expansion's city. Stormblood onwards, the new job trainers are placed in the ARR cities such as both Red Mage and Samurai starting in U'ldah.

Going through FF I usually have at least 2 classes at the same time through every expansion if only to spread out all the exp I get from MSQ. Back then the level cap is lower and you just lose lots of experience by reaching max level.
Enjoy floor tank- I mean Dragoon :D. I find it pretty slow at first but then more buttons woo. Just remember you're not a tank or else you'll be floor tank lmao.
If you're playing classes that start at level 50+ I recommend you at least try a similar class that start at level 1 so you already have a foundation. For example if trying Red mage be sure to play a bit of BLM first.

I played as dragoon for almost the entirety of Heavensward. It just felt so right, given what goes on in that expansion and what we fight. Although after a very specific moment, other players may get what I'm alluding to, I chose to swap to dark knight for the remainder of the expansion. Although then after clearing Heavensward proper I swapped back to dragoon for the patch quests. Currently I'm at the very first quest in the Stormblood MSQ, and I'm still trying to decide which class I wanna main for it, being tied between monk, samurai, and red mage.

"Giant Swinging Axe" This is valid.
Most of the "lifers" in XIV eventually level all classes to 90, if only for the storylines, but also because you might unexpectedly fall in love with how a job plays.
Once we emerge on the other side with everything at max level, we settle back down into a handful of favorites. I main warrior with my raid static and in mentor roulette, but I play scholar or summoner with most other random pickup content like alliance raids or Expert roulette because I like how those jobs play in that content. I also prefer warrior for solo content because it becomes basically immortal when you know how to play it correctly.
The OTHER other reason to have more than one job leveled in XIV is because starting at level 80, job quests morph into "role quests" and there is a united questline that requires you to have leveled a job of each type - a tank, a healer, a melee DPS, a ranged DPS, and a magical DPS. So most of us end up with at least one of each of those roles.
Finally, there's a unique mount for getting every job to max level each expansion. So we'll grind our way through until they're all done, even if we are quite bad at some of them.
Anyway, what I'm saying is you can't run from healers/casters forever, so start with an arcanist, and you can knock out two birds with one stone at least until level 30.

the good thing about the job system is that having one very high leveled job, every job thats lower than it gets an XP boost, along with the hunting log, its not very hard to play catch up to your highest leveled job. of course the hunting log only is in ARR where it was replaced with "The Hunt" which is a repeatable version of it with daily one to three star ranked mobs which ended up being a good upgrade, because the Hunting Log is finite while The Hunt isnt.

I play all the jobs, cos there's times when I feel like playing any of them. What surprised me was I learned that apparently it isn't common across mmos to allow people to have multiple jobs on one character. So, I guess its a weird thing for FFXIV, but a huge pro. You can play all the jobs if you want, or just one if you want. But I do recommend playing several, especially before you get to endwalker since there's payoff (even if small, I still absolutely lost my mind with joy anyway) in endwalker. Endwalker rewards doing a lot of side content at a couple points, and I deeply appreciate it doing that.

I played Monk in ARR, Ninja in HW, and then when Stormblood released I changed to Samurai and stayed with it until Endwalker, when I went back to Monk. I enjoyed the symmetry of closing the story out on the same job I started it with.

one of us, one of us -- after I've gotten disappointed with the SMN, I main DRG as physical DPS and never looked back. I tried other jobs and here's my pick: Phs.DPS - DGN, Mag.DPS - RDM, Tank - DRK, Heal - SCH. I have my DGN, RDM, and SCH maxed -- I'm currently working on getting my DRK maxed. I have my PLD maxed, but I don't like the recent changes they made to the job, so I'm switching to DRK.

Dragoon is SUCH a good job thematically for Heavensward, and the job quests introduce you to a lot of really important concepts! On my second character I've been levelling everything and doing the DRG quests make the main story even better. Honestly I second the suggestion of playing the 'official' jobs for each expansion, it's a fun way to play and gets you used to every role but Healer.
Edit: Probably said this before, but I am loving watching you fall in love with this game from a completely different perspective to my own journey. This game has such a great community that's welcomed me and you and many others in with open arms and good advice. It's glorious.

Uhh are you sure about that? CBU3's class reworks are sometimes pruning a bonsai tree with a chainsaw. See summoner, the tanks, machinist and the healers. It may play somewhat like it did before the rework and be good (Ninja/Monk). But it's best to not get attached to a class that may no longer exist come 7.0.

Bit of a shame that doing the dark knight quests is delayed, but fair, figures if you try something new it'd be in a different role.
That said, I'd like to point out that you needn't worry about "changing it up". most of the jobs change *significantly* across one expansion's worth of skills; warrior at 70 is a completely different beast to warrior at 50, so you most absolutely can enjoy the story while sticking to one "main" job.
Though, it is generally reccomended to try out all the roles, as knowing the gameplay needs of each first-hand makes you better at coordinating with the team.

    • @Kassilphe
      @Kassilphe 4 місяці тому

the first levels are actually quite easy to get. Like said in the video the hunting log is a good source of EXP especially in combination with the 100%armory bonus and the 30% bonus from the brand new ring (you get from the hall of novice and works till lv30). In addition I would recommend battle leves up to around lv20 and then dungeons. Not even the roulette as this is actually kinda wasting exp you could use on classes of higher level (as they give exp in relation to your exp bar, like around 24% for leveling roulette) but just queue for the highest dungeon you can get into (if you are DPS you might want to ask a T/H friend to cut queue times though). Most of the time that is enough for 1.5 levels on it's own.
I leveled all jobs now and for me personally the slowest slug is 60-70 because till late 50s you still get a lot of EXP for Dungeons aorund you level - no longer whole levels but a decent chunk - so roulette it is and the other source would be tribe quest. Which are getting more rewarding in ShB so this in-between slot felt a bit slow the me.
