When I was younger my dad showed me this video because I downloaded a virus called how to mine faster, it deleted thousands of photos, (my dad was a photographer) and up to this day, I never installed anything dodgy again.

When I was a teenager, I got a virus that would cause a bunch of white stars to appear on my task bar and then a few moments later the computer would shut down. The people at Best Buy said it was a lost cause. I ended up staying up all night one night trying to fix it. I’d only get from around 5 seconds to 3 minutes of work time each time as the computer would randomly shut down (especially when you’d actually try to remove the virus). To this day I don’t know exactly what it was or where it came from but one of the proudest things is that I was actually able to fix it. Mind you, it took like 11 hours straight...

What I also always do is turn on the "I get to choose where I save my files", this way I need to confirm the download. (But still I don't know how web companion got installed.)

I was working in tech as an assistant sysadmin when the I love you worm hit. Frankly, it was the highlight of my career. I got to see our team break down the problem and come up with a fix in real-time. Our team of eight cleaned and repaired 500 desktops and were done by 6 PM. We were one of the few agencies in our state that was back in business 100% the next day.

I have never had a suspicious e-mail on gmail since like 3 years. It filters spam really well
Modern email has a built-in virus scanner so email isn't really used for viruses as much as it used to be. Once Google/Microsoft detect malware they start marking those emails as spam for everyone within minutes.
I never, ever had a suspicious link on Gmail.

You can delete anything on Windows, aslong as it isn't a corrupted or damaged file. If you know coding fairly well, you can practically delete System 32 using the CMD while running it as an adminstrator. Running CMD as an adminstrator gives you the entire power of the computer and nothing can stop you, almost comparable to an Emperor, yea, you get the same amount of power as an Emperor has over his people, over your computer.

I got the FBI virus once on my tablet, completely locked my screen disabling any functions, however I did find something strange. every time I would restart the tablet,, it would take about 8-10 seconds for the virus to load up and lock my screen, leaving only the FBI screen up telling me to pay $500. So I decided to restart it once more, and quickly flew into settings, reset, and decided to factory reset the whole things, hence deleting the malware. I am not sure how to fix the issue on a laptop, chances are you can just hard reset it, you will lose everything but its a good price to pay to recover your device. But as for the tablet, just scroll into settings and factory reset the device...but make sure you have fingers as fast as lighting because if you don't, than you have to start the process all over again.
On an Android device, a little trick will help. You can do a factory reset from a powered off device, if you press power and volume down (or up, depends on device). The key is to get into restore menu. You have to then select factory reset option via volume buttons, which work like arrows up and down now. Power runs selected option. If the device speaks Chinese to you, select the option that has eMMC in it. It will perform a factory reset and you can use the device again, and install anything you want again. Just beware of malware, which sometimes slips through security checks run on Google Play, so you can find a malicious app sitting right in Google Play Store. Pay attention to the permissions that app requires.

Collin Emery I got a popup similar to that, but nothing to do with FBI. In my old laptop I was trying to download geometry dash for free, and I stumbled upon a popup saying I have the Zeus virus. I tried to close but it didn't work bc it locked me up. I found something shocking, it's trying to get my password and username. I managed to close that window and anyways got the popup off.

***** baloney. I had a new gaming computer that was completely bricked by it when i updated to windows ten. It would start up maybe 1 out of 10 times i tried to start it up. It was ridiculously slow and unusable. That is, when it would start.
Only malware downloads when you press the close button and that is exactly what windows 10 does.

If the iloveyou virus caused so mush trouble by having a hidden file extension, then why are file extensions still hidden by default?

Emails display file extentions by default (at least gmail and outlook), which is where the issue lies.
because people don't want security and usability, they want things to look pretty and not have old fashioned file extensions.
My guess is that most users aren't very smart and would accidentally remove the file extension when renaming it. I personally keep the extensions visible.

I want to document a accident that happened once in minecraft. 3 skins (its already removed) had viruses that corrupted thousands of computers but the viruses were point out by avast and got removed. The viruses were easy to destroy and a simple antivirus scan deleted it. Probaly was made by someone who used tutorials of how to make a virus on noteblock.

Back in high school I took SciShow as a channel made for high schoolers because it reminded me of the Crash Course channel. Though as an adult I watch far more SciShow than I would have imagined.
Hey! I have been using computers when M$ was just a gleam in Gates eye. Meaning IBM DOS, FORTRAN, COBOL and "No internet". Viruses were just badly coded programs that could not complete. Written on 5 1/4" floppy disk(640kb) So JUNK. Computer was a NEW word to the dictionary. So, not in school curriculum. Each computer took up a ROOM as it was all vacuum tubes & not accessible except by the technician and cost about $10,000.00 in 1975 money. So only SOME EDUCATIONAL institutes or big business could afford to have it. You needed Grade 12 Math with straight A's to attend and many of them did not understand it & pass the course. I could write programs but many of them had "Loops" so did not complete the assignment...after 2 years.
. Virus writing was a slow process. Spreading it was restricted to the distance the physical floppy disc could travel. Most times it was kept in the ROUND STORAGE CONTAINER at the teacher's desk...or the waste-bin outside.
. Slowly computers got smaller and more affordable (still no internet) and finally internet which took you to a limited supply of text documents(mostly scientific school stuff) and no color screen.
. Basically a computer was a glorified electric typewriter.(that was my initial impression)
So, for us old pharts this is INFORMATIVE.

There was a virus in the early 2000's that my ex is sure was on his computer. He reformatted his computer and it seemed to go away. There was 11 main computers and thousands infected botnet type computers. He was sure his was one of the 11 main computers. 10 were found. The 11th never was.
