    I like how this movie shows how sexist the police can be and how misleading the media can be. The theme of this movie (though theres more than one) is that you have to find stuff out for yourself instead of just buying into what you're told. So many good points this film made, and the ending is so thought provoking! I feel like people who hate the ending are just mentally challenged/confused by it and think it's lazy or trying to be clever but it's soo good and original. And to think there are women like that in this world that will sleep with you and claim it as rape. Women can so easily get away with shit like that, it's sickening and crazy

      No women cannot “so easily” get away with that. Women who are actually assaulted usually don’t even achieve a conviction. There’s like an 18% conviction rate for sex crimes. The real horrifying fact of our world is that r-word is actually a pretty easy crime for men to get away with and they literally constantly do. Like, _constantly._

      Dude sheriffs and police are super stupid. I think anyone who blindly follows orders instead of using logic in their decision making is a stupid waste of a human being and brain…. U have no idea how often and daily horrible crap happens where females lie to the cops or judges and they instantly believe and take their side. When I was a little kid i witnessed cops take and arrest my dad over a straight lie. I witnessed her threaten him with lying and everything

    (SPOILERS AHEAD)I thought the movie for the most part was done very well but the plot fell apart as soon as the bitch came back covered in blood. The police would not have let murder slide so easily after her story was filled with so many holes. For starters, the neil patrick harris character lived FAR AWAY. Ben affleck had to take a plane to see him. All the feds had to do was ask friends and coworkers where neil was on the day the bitch went missing and poof goes her story. I'm also not buying that she could hide out at some camper hotel and the girl she is friends with doesn't recognize her from tv because hollywood thinks if you put on glasses and dye your hair you automitcally look like a completely different person. Oh and those two that robbed her would have found out eventually come forward for an interview and said how she was not kidnapped and there goes her story again POOF! In the end I just take it as a tale of be careful who you marry.

    • @tak4e4
      @tak4e4 9 років тому +36

      Neil didn't live far away, at one point in the movie I'm pretty sure that he said that he was only a few hours away. He took a plane to see the lawyer and I guess the transition from seeing the lawyer to visiting Neil's character wasn't clear enough. Also, we don't know what happens after the movie ends. She could very well end up being investigated by the FBI and the people that robbed her at the camper place could also end up putting the pieces together and coming forward. Also, she changed her hair, put on an accent, changed her clothes, and wore glasses, which could very well be enough to fool a couple of local idiots. They expected that the girl they were seeing on tv was dead, they weren't exactly looking around for her.

      Not to tell you to read the book, but since I read the book before the movie I didn't catch that, but I see your point as to how she's going to get away with it, let me just say there's another character in the book that is not in the movie and you just know that the FBI believes her. And he didn't live far, he actually when to the search center in the beginning

    If you hated the ending because you wanted him to leave her, then it would defeat the whole purpose of what the movie was trying to illustrate. Some would argue marriage needs to be taken more seriously, as nowadays divorce is a common theme. Although, in the movie she went to the extreme to save their marriage, in my opinion, it does remind us about the passion and commitment we should have before making this commitment.

    God, that pisses me off. This is one of my biggest gripes with Jeremy, that he tends to save the awesometaculars for comic book or action movies, and not for dramatic movies. And holy shit, I don't understand your audience. "They immedietly just walked up and left the movie room" like really? That was not a movie where it ends and then you leave. That shit had me and my friend like...fuck. That was a crazy experience. I feel like you just took it lightly, like "oh, time for a drama movie I gotta go review, I just wish it was another comic or Christopher Nolan-type movie." I mean, nothing wrong with those kinds of movies, but it seems like you only sit for those types of movies, nothing real and emotional because my god, this film had me and definitely didn't let me go, and despite the length and lack of usual action (by the way, this film is so great, when someone just gets pushed down or up against a wall, you FEEL the impact of the head hitting the wall, and shit is so intense you hear gasps from everywhere) I wanted to see more and more.
    Just, PLEASE could you take these movies more seriously? Because despite it's little random flaws, it deserves an awesometacular. While I wouldn't give it a 10, I'd give it a 9.8/10.

    I'm sorry but I have to get this off my chest after watching this movie. I just finished Gone Girl and I have to tell you guys why I empathize with Nick.
    SPOILERS
    At end of the movie, I feel sympathy for Nick for now having to life with this psychotic woman for the rest of his life. She lied and set up false evidence to get revenge on two men in her life. Yes Nick cheated on her, but he didn't deserve to die for it. He even said he was going get a divorce, and they were going to live their separate lives. But Amy had to frame Nick for her murder for what he did to her. I do genuinely believe that Nick felt ashamed for having an affair with a younger woman. Also, Nick's sister really does love him. You can tell that she doesn't want her brother to have to live with a psychotic woman for the rest of her life. She breaks down at the thought of the person she cares for the most living in constant fear. It just goes to show how close she is with her brother. Nick is so lucky to have a sister who unconditionally loves him, even though he lied straight to her face about the affair. I literally cried when Margo said "I was with you before we were born." At the end of the movie, Nick now has to play along with Amy or she is going to get him arrested again. The film really made me hate Amy, because she got what she wanted. She used media bias, and societal view on men in the relationship to get even with her husband. Amy got America to view her as a sweetheart who is getting abused by her husband. To conclude, I really do sympathize with Nick, because if he doesn't go along with his wife's plans, he will go through all that again.

      I think that it would have been unrealistic for her to be caught. She had planned and executed everything so very perfectly that her being caught would been spontaneous and out of nowhere just so that she could get caught. You would have to trade realism and reason for justice, which I would not have liked.

    • @TmacAbz
      @TmacAbz 9 років тому

      Dasaun McClinton my friend you are talking about realism with knowing the fact that legally you cannot get away with murder by claiming rape. especially a rich person. there werre a lot of loopholes in this movie. Realism would be if she was trailed for it.

      @Kimmo.Laaksonen 9 років тому +1

      Dasaun McClinton For example the security tapes clearly would show that she came at her free-will at the Desi Collings house much later than she was supposedly been abducted. That would have raised some red flags.

    • @cameronsmart5203
      @cameronsmart5203 9 років тому +1

      She didn't just kill him for rape. She made it seem as though she was trapped there, that he raped her and was likely going to kill her. The setup she created was to give the illusion that murdering him was the only way to escape. And on the legal side, yes, if they believed the facts it was clean. It's called self defense. For example, a spouse is justified in killing an abusive spouse if they believe that their life is in danger, this is a common legal precedent. The scenario that Amy had setup was even more defensible than this, he had a history of stalking her and she did a believable job of creating leading evidence. Further it was believed that he seriously injured her in the past.

    The thing I absolutely love about David Fincher is that he always brings the very best out of his stars. Especially his female stars! Look at Rooney Mara for The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo, Jodie Foster for Panic Room, Taraji P. Henson for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, and now Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl. I LOVE THAT!!!!

      +Karan Vir Singh The ending was unrealistic in my opinion. No one would stay with a manipulative serial killer who literally faked her own death and kidnapping in order to ruin his life just because she got herself pregnant. I get that the ending is supposed to be frustrating but it was just unrealistic. Especially since he had already been having an affair.

    What I found so remarkable about Gone Girl was that I liked the movie despite being unsympathetic towards (and let's face it, in some cases, downright hating) some characters. It seemed like every character in this movie was an asshole for one reason or another except 'Go. Not from a performance standpoint, the performances were great, just the characters themselves.

      But I was also goint to be all movie buff and say that The Game was the first Fincher movie I saw at about... I wanna say... 15???
      And I LOVED it.
      The marketing campain was awesome for its time on the fledgling 1995ish internets, even if the pages took about an hour to load, and when I got the chance I hopped it to the nearest decent theater (an hour's train ride at the time) to see a triple, and this is the only one of the 3 that I can definatly say I saw that day... I think one of the other might have been face/off, but The Game stuck.
      I still enjoy popping in the DVD now and then.
      But then I saw the "read more" part of your comment, and saw that you also liked The Game, so, I won't... lol

    So the first time I had ever seen Fight Club it was when Cinemark's Classics were showing it on a Sunday. I thought it was just a really good movie based on what I heard and knew the classic line, "You do not talk about fight club." Little did I know that within 20 minutes in I had never loved a movie so much in my entire life. I stayed until the end of the credits and as I was walking out of the theatre I was shaking my head in disbelief. That movie changed my life. No movie has had a more giant impact on me.
    So yeah my favorite David Fincher movie is Fight Club.

    The first half of this movie was amazing in my opinion, especially the scene where the wife reveals how she set up everything, it should have ended there. The last hour imo was pointless and only got you angrier that he didn't tell anyone about the true plans and intentions of the psycho bitch. But truth be told this should have been called "Don't Ever Piss off a Woman: Hell hath no fury". Realistic or not, how Affleck responded to the situation I couldn't have kept quiet about the truth no matter what. Which frankly pissed me off and caused a 2.5 hour movie.

    Tyler Perry was solid in this, but it's not like it was a very challenging role. He didn't show up til about 3/4 of the way thru the movie and even then, he didn't have to do much. There are a lot of other actors that could've played the part. Other than that, I pretty much agree, for the most part, with the rest of Jeremy's review.

    But the ending... the ending! Argh!
    (spoilers)
    Maybe I wouldn't have minded it as much as I do if it was handled slightly differently. In the very end the guy seems... okay with it and there this twisted sense that everything that happened 'saved their marriage'. I would have preferred a greater sense of impending madness and despair on his behalf, I didn't get that from it. Probably because I thought the gimmick of having them stay together (the way she orchestrated it so he couldn't leave her) was unconvincing. He could and should have left.
    One other thing that bothered me is that none of the characters are likable. Personally, I need at least one character to like and to root for and this movie didn't provide that for me.

      As for the ending, you have to bear in mind that the movie is a satire of the romantic comedy, as well as a deconstruction of the runaway wife story, and ultimately, a movie that seriously asks questions about long term relationships.

      if he left, well..... actually its hard to guess what she'd do if he left. Thats what was so frightening about her character - it was too unpredictable.

      SPOILER ****Worst part other than the detective in the end deciding not to do her job no more is :
      No cops noticed they got an "anonymous tip from a neighbor" yet they can clearly see the call came out of state. She was like in Louisiana and called Illinois

      I just came back from watching it and I think it was awesome. There are so many plot-twists in there that it really keeps you on edge all the time. It truly puts the "psycho" in psycho-thriller. Haven't seen a movie like that for a long time. Would recommend!

    I didn't catch the same humor you did, Jeremy, but this was a super dope movie, and I ended up getting it from Google play store soon after watching it. It was all about perception, I think, and it conveyed some of the aspects of being tangled or even married with The Wrong One, which was important to me since many of my dates behaved in minor patterns, though while they were comparable to Pike's character for sure ....

      Ali oh really? why is that? is there like no traces of DNA in urine or something?

    • @theTeamSlayer353
      @theTeamSlayer353 9 років тому +8

      Axel Reigns urine is 95 percent water the other 5 percent are various minerals and inorganic compounds. If it's pure urine it should be impossible to do a DNA test if skin cells got into the urine somehow it might be possible but it would sill be extremely difficult.

    LOVED this movie.. Didnt feel long to me because I was engrossed the whole time and most amazing is how many times it couldve ended and been satisfied, the ways the story couldve gone and still been satisfied. But yes I loved it... everyone is at the top of their game in this.
    Fight Club is favorite Fincher but Se7en, The Game and Fight Club are top shelf.

    Saw the film yesterday, haven't read the book. Watched this alone and discussed it with my girlfriend who read the book. She told me that at the end, she goes back to him because she feels she does truly love him but black mails him to keep him by her side. It didn't feel like that in the movie. Would anyone who read the book care to elaborate on this?

    As an absolute raving lunatic for Fincher's work it could be hard to pin it down, but I've had my mind relatively set on Fight Club for a while now.
    His other work has impressed, but never had the oomph to push Fight Club off its pedestal. Until now.
    Yep, Gone Girl might be my new favorite Fincher movie. I'm still juggling it in my head, but it's definitely up there. So... either Fight Club or Gone Girl.

    Favorite David Fincher movie is The Social Network, though I attribute a lot of that to David Sorken's script. Damn good movie, one of my favorites.
