I read an interview that Damien Chazelle did and he explains that he likes his endings to contain as little dialogue as possible and likes to end his films with music like in Whiplash there’s a 10 minute ending of just music and La La Land there’s a 7 minute fantasy sequence. It leaves the audience in the edge of their seats when the movie ends.

DeathDealer1997 Mikael Lifeson Lucas Altmann You can copyright a string of words - you definitely can copyright a musical composition - many people claim "fair use" but they don't fully understand the fair use clause. Look at my channel, it uses fair use correctly, actual discussion (in the video, not just posting a song and then assuming the "comments" is suitable for "purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research"). Whiplash is a single word, used constantly in English for exactly the purpose the word is intended. Even as a title of a song or movie, it alone is not copyright nor a valid infringement. You seem butt hurt over Lars' attack of Napster (and such) many years ago. You seem unaware that he currently fully supports the new "streaming" media and even video phones at the Metallica concerts. You seem unaware that the non-Taylor-Swifts in the industry have fully recognized they've always made more money on tours and merchandising than they've ever made on music play and anything that encourages show attendance is a valuable industry tool.

Im stoked you liked this! This is a must-see for me as I once was a pro drummer and had a teacher in college similar to JK Simmons' character. "What good of a drummer are you if you Can't text now, driving keep time and Can't text now, driving swing!! Next drummer!!"
Fan fact: Miles Teller has been drumming since he was 15 years old and has actually performed in most parts of the movie. That dude just got a few points of respect from me.
Wesley Tomsky Watched all the films you mentioned and I like these movies though. But I still think Whiplash by far better than Interstellar, X-Men : DOFP, Under The Skin.
SPOILERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS when the girlfriend said she had a boyfriend, i thought she was gunna say jk just like how she said jk when she said , "get away from me"
Nikola2553 not really, it was her character, we barely saw her but i implied she was the joking type, so it would make sense, i don't see the point of introducing her to just break it off unless they were going for the "you better keep your relationships cuz it might be too late next time" message.
Gevoian I really think it works both ways! But i think what they had in the movie probably worked better because it was mean't illustrate and convey that idea that relationships are very meaningful and precious bonds of friendship and love, meaning that there may not be a second chance for you after you fuck all that up in pursuit of your self centered desires!
Patrick Ward they could have broke it off after that scene but i thought that would be a fun time to illustrate her personality even more since we barely see her, maybe he could have gotten really angry with her when he got hit by a car and lost the place as drummer and then could have blamed her for it since like he said he could not spend time with her if he wanted to be the best and he hits her and this can show abusive relationships then she leaves. at least that's how i'd do it, the rest of the movie was flawless though even though we don't see much of his family after the dinner table.
One of the best endings to any movie I've ever seen... hell, one of the best movies I've ever seen. There's this one shot during the climactic scene where it cuts to his dad watching from off stage.... I don't know why, but that was just really hit this movie home. I got chills. And it just speaks to the amazing editing.
Jeremy I absolutely without a doubt, 100%, balls to the wall, completely agree with you on everything you just said about this movie, it is an amazing movie and I have a problem with anyone who dislikes this movie... However I do see only one flaw with it *SPOILER ALERT* I found it pretty implausible when he got smashed by a truck and then immediately got up from said accident and went to drum, I was like, really?? Granted it was to illustrate a point but i'm just saying it was a little bit implausible, but intense nonetheless.
I found it a bit impassible that that happened in the film as well but I didn't mind it to much as it is not impossible but yeah It was a very intense film.
Cars today are super safe. Plus, I saw it as him morphed up on Adrenalin than anything. But you could see how much pain he was in when he was drumming. He probably passed the fuck out like as soon as he got to a hospital.
So... uh... I've been a guitar player for like umpteen years and my brother wanted to play drums and I basically was the asshole mentor for so long and I would work him to death. He would bleed, fall off the throne, it was intense and I'd go home and just be devasted. It hurt me to hurt him but I couldn't let it show cause he was getting to be incredible. Now we write and play music together and he's incredible at it and we finally talked about it all and he punched me in the stomach and we got drunk together lol. As mean as it may come across, it can affect both victim and tormentor but you both go through it because of your love for the hobby/art/craft. I know no one gives a shit but I wanted to share my short tale :/
Wow, cool. I know it's hard becoming good in any art. I'm actually studying art and holy shit do I love/hate my school, since it lets me do little nothing short of drawing and painting (commenting while painting) but it has helped wonders!
no but i did that matthew mconohey chest thump thing for weeks after- even before i saw the movie - especially when driving my Lincoln "I was...doin the chest thump thing as long as I've been able to breathe"
The kid in the movie reminded me of myself. When I was in high school, I got into a choir class run by a male teacher who is possibly the most hatable dick to ever walk the face of the earth. For some unanswered reason, he would verbally abuse me if I messed up a note and mocked me if I cried. On top of that, he knew how badly I wanted to join the chamber choir (a smaller choir that did songs in other languages) but twice I auditioned and he wouldn't let me join. I confronted him about it and he simply and bluntly said that I'm not and never will be good enough because my voice is too obnoxious and I sing like a man. My hatred for him sealed at that point. But the worst thing he did to me… he NEARLY made me quit what I loved to do the most, singing. He psychologically tormented me so much that I couldn't bear to look at him. Here's another fun fact about him… He HATES anything Disney-related… Also, he refused to let me play a lead role in our school musicals since he himself directed them. Yeah… that's how much of an asshole he was to me. But I wasn't gonna let him get away with it. I almost wanted to report him because my mother was furious when I explained what happened. But I knew people would say, "oh, she's a bitch who wants attention because a teacher acted cruel to her." So I just kept my mouth shut and I still put up with his shit in the choir. I finally graduated and got away from him. Thank God. I joined a new choir at my college and thankfully, the teacher is a woman, she's very helpful and sweet and was very open to me and supported me all the way through. Teachers are supposed to make you feel good and support you… NOT the opposite. There, now you guys know how my senior year in high school was a living hell and how I could relate to Miles Teller's character in this movie. This movie WAS fantastic. The ending gave me chills and goosebumps.
Whiplash was on UA-cam for about 2 days. Told my mates about it. Told them to watch it before it was taken down. They were all like, "yeah, I've got stuff to do, but if I have time..." None of them watched it and it was taken down. I now have to convince them to spend £3.49 to watch it. It needs to be seen!
Wesley Tomsky I think you're angry at something (other than what you're addressing here) and are just reaching for low hanging fruit. You don't care about video piracy. You know it's wrong, just like the rest of us, but you don't *really* care. What you're doing here is commenting on something to make you feel better about yourself because there is a subconscious part of you that thinks people will like you more for your honour. Or you might just be a self-righteous prick. Either one is good. Laters, dickwad.
The cinematography of this film was outstanding in terms of the various shots and sounds of being in the music classroom. It was just spot on with what it's like to be in band. It made me feel incredibly nostalgic of the four years of my high school music class, concert band, and jazz band.
I guess some people don't understand why would Neiman put himself trough hell just to become a great drummer. For musicians music is like a perfect thing, something that just the best of the best have really reached and it is infuriating when people tell you "you did fine" when you know it is not fine, when the perfect melody isn't fine, when you could've done even better. It is, anyway worth it in the end. When Neiman got the perfect tempo and achieved his goal he was having fun, he was enjoying himself, he was proving himself he was able to reach the melody he envied. And so, this movie is a masterpiece in showing you the struggle of a lot of people to achieve their realization of "art".
He achieved his goal but lost something important on the way. He was extreme, a fanatic, but I guess, unlike with drug addiction, it's more of an open question whether THIS kind of addiction might be worth it. Also.. There are different ways of pushing. You can tell someone to keep trying without being sadistic. Heck, even while being nice! If these are people with a lot of inner drive to start with, why would they need abuse to keep them going?? It's a logical fallacy. Finally... Sensitivity in art, that's kind of a good thing. Fletcher should be in the military, no use for sensitivity there, but if you're going to eliminate all the sensitive people from art with those kinds of methods, you'll definitely lose something.
I am shuddering like a ****ing crackhead right now. THAT WAS THE GREATEST FILM I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS. It manages to be BETTER THAN THE GREY and BETTER THAN THE DARK GODDAMN KNIGHT. HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE IS PER-FECT-TION.
I saw Whiplash at the Stockholm Film Festival a month ago and I loved it. I used to play a lot of music in school before and it really reminded me of the pressure I had when the teacher was watching. One of my best friends at that time turned into my biggest enemy, because we both wanted to be the best at our instrument (guitar). Every time the teacher was going to pick someone's song for an upcoming concert, we always tried our best and rehearsed for hours. Luckily, the hard work paid off, and my "friend" was completely teared apart so he started practicing like 6 hours a day. I don't take music that seriously anymore.
Best movie of 2014. I haven't seen Birdman yet (although I live in Australia so that will technically be a 2015 movie for me), and I've heard that's amazing, but this was close to a perfect movie.
When he mentioned Crimson Tide, I thought it was an Alabama fan joke. I am a Mississippi State fan, but I went to the Ole Miss/Alabama game with my dad. When Ole Miss took the lead late in the fourth quarter, I saw more than a few Alabama fans crying. And when Ole Miss got the interception on Alabama's next drive, the Alabama section immediately cleared. The Ole Miss fans rushed the field, and I saw them tear down a goalpost. That was a great day.
Agree with the review, and I know you don't want to play spoilers but wish you would have mentioned how genius the ending was. Imagine the end of a sports movie where the protagonist overcomes his challenges to win and we all feel happy for the protagonist. Similar situation, except we don't feel joy for the protagonist, we feel horrified, uncomfortable, disturbed or we don't know what to think. Here he accomplishes his goal, making the teacher proud, but at what cost? Everything. Giving absolutely everything up in his life just to play one perfect song, this is symbolized through his blood and sweat coming out of him and being mixed into his drumming as he plays. The teacher smiles at him at the end but it is no where near worth the effort which is why we don't feel happy or supportive of the protagonist at the end. That was the directors plan and it left me with a feeling I've never felt leaving a movie. Absolutely genius and look forward to watching this one again.
I watched this movie a year ago in the internet, but then it arrive to cinemas in my country and I had to give it another watch in the movie theater, one of the best experiences I ever had, even when I had already seen it a couple of times and where the story was going, it was so pleasent to see other people enjoyed it as well, when JK Simmons made a joke, everyone laught, when he was rude, everyone stood in silence, in the last 10-15 minutes everyone were so quiet even if there was barely any dialogue. Definitely, one of the best movies ever made.
Reminds me of my highschool band teacher, he would curse at us, insult us and calls us names, he threw his book at me once for fucking up during rehearsal, he yelled at this girl one time and she started having a panic attack. If you were a good player, he would give you hell to make you great. I am a better bass player than ever because he pushed me. But was it worth the stress i went through? Trust me guys, people like this exist.
SPOILERS. It didn't need to be longer. He got his approval and that was the whole goal. Once he got that his journey was done, so the movie was done. All the loose ends were unimportant to the protagonist we were following, therefore were unimportant for the movie.
TimStarz04 MORE SPOILERS In an interview, the director/writer Damien Chazelle said that the ending actually has... less than triumphant implications as he says that Andrew has just become a shell of himself, his efforts weren't really worth it, Fletcher will always believe he's won, and that Andrew will dies in his 30s of a drug overdose
This is the first review of yours I'd ever seen. My friend told me about Whiplash, how it was a very good film, and intense. Just to check, I looked up a review of the movie, and watched this. Basically, Jeremy said it was truly amazing and intense. I watched the movie almost immediately after. I'll just put it this way: Whiplash is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I could barely breathe by the end of it. The music was amazing, Teller's and Simmons' performances rocked me to my core. Now, I make sure to watch the show before I go to the movies, just to see if there's anything good I haven't heard of yet.
I was amazed in this movie I thought I loved the drums but that kid was living it it was his true passion he was so determined that's awesome but yes overall this movie really impacted me thanks for your reviews
I keep telling my mom to watch this movie but when I told her what it's about she gave me this look and says it sounds boring. She has no idea what she's missing out on.
Best movie ever, when I walked out of the theater I was on the verge of tears just to release all the emotion that built up in me while I was watching.
Great review! I can feel the waves of enthusiasm rolling off ya... (Seriously, I had only heard of this film in passing and didn't really care until this vid, and now I plan to see it, so thanks.)
Thank you for the warning for people with anxiety problems. My daughter has some issues with that, and it was really considerate of you to put that warning at the end.
its hilarious to think that the guy who is so intense in this movie is the same person voicing the most chill character in The Legend Of Korra .... for those of you who don't know J. K. Simmons voices Tenzin on The Legend Of Korra and from what I've heard of his character in Whiplash I can safely say that Tenzin is the POLAR opposite when it comes to being a teacher at least
Saw this yesterday... Never thought I would be sitting, clambering my face, biting my nails of excitement & intensity of a movie about a guy who wants to succeed as a drummer. Just damn. Loved it.
I'm a musician, and the thing I LOVED about this movie was how much you can tell the people making it understood music... The attention to detail was just incredible.
Jeremy's explanation for how nerve-wracking it was to watch Miles Teller under pressure from J.K. Simmons was the best selling of an entire movie based on one scene I've seen from Jeremy in recent memory. As far as actually recommending a movie alternative to simply giving an opinion this review is among Jeremy's best work.
Jeremy, I've been a huge fan of yours since 2009 and I have NEVER seen you praise a movie to the extent that you praised this. I am really excited to see this now.
"That shit was intense." I couldn't agree more. I wanted to watch this film after I watched Jack Howard review and I knew I had to watch it after this video. I want to thank both of you because this film was one of the best films I have ever seen in my life. I know 16 years aren't that long but I've seen a lot of films and this one was INCREDIBLE. I've just seen the movie and I still can feel the ADRENALINE running through my veins. As I am writing this comment I can feel my hands shaking with excitement cause this movie was THAT GOOD. Also everyone should be thankfull that JK Simmons is an actor. His performance in this movie was one of the most intense things I have ever witnessed. And Miles Teller is astonishingly great.
Watched this review, thought wow Jeremy giving very high thoughts on this movie, might be great. Watched trailer, I thought meh it looks a bit depressing, drama drama drama, might not be my thing. But I thought, what the heck, let's watch it. Watched the movie, and I'm in awe... masterpiece!
People like JK Simmons's character do exist and that's the frightening fact about this movie. They're charismatic, passionate, clever, have a shit ton of connections and being in good terms with them will practically mean that you'll have a bright future if you go through all this. But at what cost? I had two soccer/football coachs like him at some point in my life when I was about to give up everything to become a professionnal football player. They both pushed us to extremes with hardcore training session who made us puke, cry and feel like every muscle and bone of your body was on fire. Didn't had what it took to endure all of it and just called quits to go back to college and finish law school.
ds37 totally dude.. In every profession, I'm a psychologist and i had a professor that was actually like this, he was psychological and emotional abusive, he threw chairs across the room because no one could do something in Matlab.... He was insane... We were one of the best groups and he knew it and push us horribly and he made every one of us loose the course, he didn't even read the final research papers.... After that only three students including me saw the course again with him, second time the three of us where the only ones to get 5.0 in that course. To this day Im still in contact with him and not gonna lie I've never cross paths with any superior like that in my professional life... He doesn't teach anymore... Wonder why
I watched this movie on the way home from Germany on a 9 hour flight and even though I was stricken with an awful flu, I forgot about ALL of my symptoms during that time. The ending just blew me away.
Just saw this movie last night... Agreed 100% with everything Jeremy says. I was literally on my edge of my seat the entire time and J.K. Simmons performance is just mind-blowing. Probably my favourite film of the 2014 movies that are nominated for Best Picture.
I just stumbled across this movie on tv yesterday just at the moment when JK Simmons first steps in the rehearsal room. You could already feel some tension. I would have just changed the channel if it weren’t for these engaging characters who literally pulled me into the movie. Great stuff.
That last description Jeremy was spot on. I'm an anxious person right now, so seeing this film probably wasn't the best choice. But I did see it. Last night. Because I wanted to. And it was intensely good. You are scared for these musicians, you feel the pressure and agony with them. It's almost like watching and waiting for a bomb to explode. Miles Teller should've got more recognition for this, he was a good match for J.K Simmons. But Simmons own this film and rightly deserved that Oscar. Fletcher is one scary bastard.
Spoilers This movie was good at giving me a fucking heart-attack. Whoops! Late to the concert! Whoops! Forgot my drumsticks! Whoops! Got hit by a fucking truck! Whoops! Dropped my bloody ass drumsticks in the middle of the performance! Whoops! Tackled the scariest man alive, on stage!
It was my most anticipated this year and it blew my expectations out of the water. Favorite film I've seen in years. I saw it twice back to back in theaters and now watching you talk about it makes me want to go see it again!! Also, hair cut.
the only issue with the film, at least in my opinion, is that there was no reason to give the main character a love interest. they go on, what, two dates and then he breaks it off. they don't kiss, they don't follow through with any real chemistry, and they're not believable as a couple. Melissa Benoist is a good actress, but she was given virtually nothing to do in this film. pointless romance aside, the film is fantastic. Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons are beyond amazing.
Yeah, I agree. Just be bothing happened didn't make it pointless. I actually like that he summed up their future basically repeating the formula of almost all movies about greats. The choice between love and excellence has always made great cinema.
When Fletcher gave Andrew that cheeky smile at the end, that subtle sign of approval. Ah damn. Loved it!
''get the fuck out of my sight before I demolish you...I can still fucking see you Miny-me''
''
Yeah but fletcher got away with driving that other kid to kill himself?! I wanted too see him get his ass whooped cause he was totally the bad guy?
Did you even see the movie? If you did you would understand why that kid killed himself.

The ending to that movie, was the best ending I have ever seen. No joke.
What ending? All I saw was the climax and it must've skipped the extra 20 minutes of falling action and gone straight to the credits.

Because Ramsay has nothin on JK Simmons.
Gordon Ramsay is a kindergarten teacher in comparison.

Looking back almost 9 years later, this movie is still easily the best movie of 2014
Just watched it last night. Brilliant movie
How did you feel about Babylon? 🎬
Actually most people never work to their bones for greatness, this movie is a cautionary tail on the cost of greatness.
Of course most people don't... If everyone was, "great," then nobody would be considered, "great".
Hermin Hop Right, absolutely...but the reviewer of this movie said everyone has worked this hard, I was commenting towards him.
Hermin Hop I agree and I would like to quote Syndrome from the Incredibles "And when everyone's super....no one is".
"It's not fast paced" I would definitely say it is fast paced.
Jeremy I absolutely without a doubt, 100%, balls to the wall, completely agree with you on everything you just said about this movie, it is an amazing movie and I have a problem with anyone who dislikes this movie... However I do see only one flaw with it
*SPOILER ALERT*
I found it pretty implausible when he got smashed by a truck and then immediately got up from said accident and went to drum, I was like, really?? Granted it was to illustrate a point but i'm just saying it was a little bit implausible, but intense nonetheless.
I found it a bit impassible that that happened in the film as well but I didn't mind it to much as it is not impossible but yeah It was a very intense film.
I guess you don't watch LiveLeak videos.
I don't know what that is so no I don't.
Cars today are super safe. Plus, I saw it as him morphed up on Adrenalin than anything. But you could see how much pain he was in when he was drumming. He probably passed the fuck out like as soon as he got to a hospital.
mryupjup
ahem, SLIGHT concussion... it looked like his freaking head was caved in.
I just watched Whiplash for the first time. Oh my God, that was so good.
Me: finally watches movie
Me: watches Jeremy Jahns review of movie
Yassss.. That was so meee
+Collin Eichkorn me: watches Jeremy Jahns review of movie

+Errold Tumaque he he true dat
Alright...
Good comment... but....
Not quite my tempo
Me, today.
Holy fucking shit. I am so blown away right now that he was the guy in Spiderman. Totally different transformation didn't even recognize him.
eric watkins and tenzin in legend of korra.
marco maneja and DEEZ NUTS in gotem~!
+Nads I mean all he did was lose the mustache and shave his head. You seem like the type of guy who wouldn't know Clark Kent is Superman.
Chris Jones Never seen Superman.
Also omni man
No movie has ever made my heart pound like this.
So...
I'm actually studying art and holy shit do I love/hate my school, since it lets me do little nothing short of drawing and painting (commenting while painting) but it has helped wonders!
that migh be the best thing i read in this shitstorm of nonesense that we call youtube comments.
Thank you for sharing
A shit has now been given
Merry Christmas
It was a nice tale. :)
Good comments are so rare in this cesspool of shit known as the UA-cam comment section.
Here's a like and have a nice day.
Am I the only one who in the end says with Jeremy: Comment bellow, let me know! No? no one? Okay.. :(
Haha, what a loser.
Cirnan De Leon
I made You famous :3
I do it all the time
Kinda sad this is a thing...
no but i did that matthew mconohey chest thump thing for weeks after- even before i saw the movie - especially when driving my Lincoln
"I was...doin the chest thump thing as long as I've been able to breathe"
They were all like, "yeah, I've got stuff to do, but if I have time..."
None of them watched it and it was taken down. I now have to convince them to spend £3.49 to watch it. It needs to be seen!
imahelpfulperson unfortunately not. It certainly is a great film. Different. Unique.
+C Chadwick don't support illegal bullshit like that
Wesley Tomsky why?
Wesley Tomsky I think you're angry at something (other than what you're addressing here) and are just reaching for low hanging fruit. You don't care about video piracy. You know it's wrong, just like the rest of us, but you don't *really* care. What you're doing here is commenting on something to make you feel better about yourself because there is a subconscious part of you that thinks people will like you more for your honour. Or you might just be a self-righteous prick. Either one is good. Laters, dickwad.
C Chadwick or maybe I'm not a criminal piece of shit
best movie I've seen in a year. the final scene is one of the greatest things ever.
The cinematography of this film was outstanding in terms of the various shots and sounds of being in the music classroom. It was just spot on with what it's like to be in band. It made me feel incredibly nostalgic of the four years of my high school music class, concert band, and jazz band.
T0MBRA1D3RR It was the editing more than the Cinematography. Whiplash won all the editing awards, because it was so superb the editing.
Come to think of it, that makes sense. Indeed it was.
J.K. Simmons plays Tenzin on Legend of Korra and he is amazing in that role
Agreed. Damn it Australia!
Birdman didn't come out till 2015 in this country, and Whiplash is not even out here yet :(
Where are you at?
297fihsy Doesn't matter where he lives. He needs to see Whiplash. Asap. Top priority
Geaux Tigers! I love seeing bama lose.
I think he meant the Crimson Tide film with Denzel Washington.
he just wants pictures of spiderman thats why he's always angry in this movie
Jeremy I love that you're doing more indie reviews! Keep it up.
Can’t believe this film is 8 years old. Aged like wine 👌
As a drummer myself I can agree that the tension when about to perform was so accurate it gave me PTSD.
I'd say the movie did have a flaw; it was a little too short.
NOT MY LENGTH!
James Stone That implies that there was more to say, and there wasn't
Androminous Exactly. If the worse thing you can say about a movie is that you wanted it to keep going.. I mean.. come on..
i like how jeremy evolved as a reviewer im actually starting to become a bigger fan of you keep up the good work man
While this film is great, there is ONE flaw (psuedo-spoiler ahead):
THE ENDING IS ABRUPT. It just ends at the climax with no follow-through.
That's what I loved about it, actually.
SPOILERS.
It didn't need to be longer. He got his approval and that was the whole goal. Once he got that his journey was done, so the movie was done. All the loose ends were unimportant to the protagonist we were following, therefore were unimportant for the movie.
TimStarz04
MORE SPOILERS
In an interview, the director/writer Damien Chazelle said that the ending actually has... less than triumphant implications as he says that Andrew has just become a shell of himself, his efforts weren't really worth it, Fletcher will always believe he's won, and that Andrew will dies in his 30s of a drug overdose
TheKersey475 SPOILERS
I read it before that this was an open ending, so some interpretations can follow.
The ending gave me chills. xD
dont get me wrong, movie was good, but not quite my tempo......... ;-)
htflumpyfan :D
Lol I get it clever
Are you upset, yes or fucking no?
@@TheWelchProductions I am upset
I'm quite interested in this movie and plan to see it at some point. When I hear of JK Simmons I think of Cave Johnson.
Just this morning I was searching for your review of this movie, I am glad you posted it today. Great review as always.
I keep telling my mom to watch this movie but when I told her what it's about she gave me this look and says it sounds boring. She has no idea what she's missing out on.
Saw this opening weekend and I was simply fantastic.. I've been waiting for you to realease this video
Just saw it a couple hours ago....... My jaw is still hanging on the floor!
I didn't like this movie. It wasn't quite my tempo.....
I see what you did there....
**cricket chirping**
Buh dum tssss
was it dragging for you?
+Mr. Brightside nah more like rushing
Best movie ever, when I walked out of the theater I was on the verge of tears just to release all the emotion that built up in me while I was watching.
Great review!
I can feel the waves of enthusiasm rolling off ya...
(Seriously, I had only heard of this film in passing and didn't really care until this vid, and now I plan to see it, so thanks.)
this movie was the definition of a masterpiece.
Just damn. Loved it.
Whiplash and Nightcrawler got Awesometacular from Jeremy :) And both Marvel characters oh no wait :)
I'm a musician, and the thing I LOVED about this movie was how much you can tell the people making it understood music... The attention to detail was just incredible.
One of the single most intense movies I've ever seen
Jeremy's explanation for how nerve-wracking it was to watch Miles Teller under pressure from J.K. Simmons was the best selling of an entire movie based on one scene I've seen from Jeremy in recent memory. As far as actually recommending a movie alternative to simply giving an opinion this review is among Jeremy's best work.
Just saw this movie and wow one of the greatest endings of all time. Loved this film!
Jeremy, I've been a huge fan of yours since 2009 and I have NEVER seen you praise a movie to the extent that you praised this. I am really excited to see this now.
It took me so much contemplation, but I’m finally certain that this is my favorite movie of all time
J.K Simmons went from changing his voice a bit and being a kind man in Legend of Korra to this amazing performance. Bravo, sir!
This movie releases on January 16th here in the UK and I am unbelievably excited for it! I am willing to travel long distance to see this movie
I'v seen it. Wasn't as good as TLOTR of course. But it held its own. I'd give it an 8/10. That high in my opinion. Not IGN's lol.
I'm a movie fan....I don't torrent films. I pay money to see them in the best possible way
James Porter He didn't torrent it, he saw it because he lives in America probably.
It looks like he lives in the UK
Honestly the last 10/15 minutes made my heart rate want to keep up with the drumming beat rate... It was BREATHTAKING.
This movie was AMAZING. I have no other words it just was...amazing
Just saw this movie last night... Agreed 100% with everything Jeremy says. I was literally on my edge of my seat the entire time and J.K. Simmons performance is just mind-blowing. Probably my favourite film of the 2014 movies that are nominated for Best Picture.
Great review Jeremy. J.K Simmons is fucking Awesome!
Every time he talked about tempo... I remembered my music teacher... and im no where near great, but a feeling's still there.
He never practiced with a metronome of course he had tempo problems what a silly drummer!
Cause he had a shitty teacher
Issce Gonzalez dank souls!
Finally Jeremy. Been waiting for this review
Well i think we all know who's winning best supporting actor at the oscars
I saw it and liked it too. Will you not be reviewing The Pyramid or Panic 5 Bravo?
Just saw it, fanfuckingtastic!
I just stumbled across this movie on tv yesterday just at the moment when JK Simmons first steps in the rehearsal room. You could already feel some tension. I would have just changed the channel if it weren’t for these engaging characters who literally pulled me into the movie. Great stuff.
Good dammit I live in uk and I can't find this film anywhere online. It sucks!!
Yeah I live in the UK to cannot find this movie for shit :(
Toddle Loaf love you
Movie25. Should work.
Toddle Loaf it's in russian i think, did u watch it like that or is there an option to change it.
Toddle Loaf It was in fuckin russian. -_-
I'm so glad you reviewed this! Great movie, and great review. Loved your commentary, and love your work. Keep it up, J.
I watched this movie 3 times. I’ve never done that before.
YOU LISTENED!! THANK YOU FOR REVIEWING THIS:) favorite movie of 2014
The Imitation Game review?
That last description Jeremy was spot on. I'm an anxious person right now, so seeing this film probably wasn't the best choice. But I did see it. Last night. Because I wanted to. And it was intensely good. You are scared for these musicians, you feel the pressure and agony with them. It's almost like watching and waiting for a bomb to explode. Miles Teller should've got more recognition for this, he was a good match for J.K Simmons. But Simmons own this film and rightly deserved that Oscar. Fletcher is one scary bastard.
where is the hobbit rewiew?
Yeah that is what I was thinking
comes out in 3 days where jeremy lives, i saw it last thursday and it premiered between tuesday and wednesday night here in Finland
It's out on the 17th in the usa I saw it yesterday in the uk
Fjolltzu What would be your brief review of it?
It comes out in December 17th in America
That ending got me 😢. Well done to get that moment
ARE YOU DRAGGING OR RUSHING?!
I'm so glad you reviewed this film! I saw it a few months ago and I loved it! Definitely my favorite movie of this year.
Spoilers
This movie was good at giving me a fucking heart-attack.
Yep I agree. It was just a time filler. Weak part of an amazing film.
I agree..apart from this,the film was great
maybe so, but it's usually frowned upon to set up a storyline like that and not have it go anywhere.
Well Hollywood has accustomed us to the final kiss happy romantic ending thing... But this is real life here... Stuff like that happen
Yeah, I agree. Just be bothing happened didn't make it pointless. I actually like that he summed up their future basically repeating the formula of almost all movies about greats. The choice between love and excellence has always made great cinema.
