I honestly needed this rn. Been slacking with balancing a 9-5, with family, and then my own excuses for not perusing my passion. Great stuff! Hope to see more of your projects in the future!
This is wild! I’m also fundraising for a film and have been seeing you EVERYWHERE-glad I finally get to put a story to the face. Looking forward to the release of Isle Child! 🎬
This is one of those rare moments where you get to be one of someone’s first 5k Subs. You’re going to 1m+ and clearly have the persistence to pull it off. Good luck bro, not that you’ll need it
The production, music, style, visuals, and everything else about this video is just absolutely AMAZING! I’ve been feeling a bit stuck creatively lately, but this video has truly inspired me to start creating again. Thank you so much! 😌
Just by how this video was edited you know hot to tell a story and keep people engaged. You proofed with this video that you know your stuff and I have no doubt that the movie will be great.
This soo goated, i was legit thinking about this as well on how most ppl that get these big budget films it's mainly from like rich families, and that's true sometimes, but I think if you're smart enough, and good with words you can get a solid amount of work out of people im def saving this so I can come back to it later on and just go through it all in more detail also u should make more vids like these about the financial side of filmmaking since I dont see many ppl talking about that in the way you do, cus ik thats something a lot of young filmmakers struggle with and give up on like me but i appreciate it a lot wish you a good one
Wow this was actually really helpful! So often I see videos that give half baked, non-specific advice on this sort of stuff but everything in this video was so tangible. Also this video is so incredibly well made!
So glad it helped, Mitch! There's so much I've learned in my journey navigating "Hollywood", and I hope to lay out the path exactly for future filmmakers (and for my past self) :)
This is so awesome ❤❤❤ hope this blows up soon (64k views is still good tho for a new channel) Im really want to start filming videos like you and Schyguy (a cool UA-camr) and I was wondering if you could recommend a *not too expensive* camera for a 14 year old kid. Awesome video 🎉
Hey Thomas! Awesome Film! Can't wait to see Isle Child Premiere and visualize what your awesome capabilities are and how much more you could grow! What caught my attention though was that you used to live in Concord! I do not live far from there as I currently live in Nashua NH. I do not know your whereabouts now, But! Maybe we could work together sometime? Very inspirational film btw. Cheers!
Just yesterday I've fallen into a rabbit hole of cameras, short films, and emotion through those films. I've wanted to make stories for a long time now, and watching your passion for this project makes me want to create and share stories through film. I don't know if this is what I'm meant to do, but this has at least given me the enthusiasm to explore it, and maybe start writing a film. Thank you!
Very inspiring. One of the discouraging thoughts I've had is my location, but seeing how you'll be creating your film in almost the same region as me, there's no excuse for me!
Would you be open to do a masterclass on how you write direct and edit your movies ? I subscribed and immediately starting writing actors in my country Germany, beeing inspired by you. Sometimes you just have to start! I feel so inspired by you!
Dude, your video was so well shot and eye opening. I've been on the same path as you for so long and it never stops being a grind. Wish you luck on your projects!
Appreciate you watching and sharing the kind words! The journey is long and winding, but we're in it together! Excited to build out this community on YT working hard together.
I’m begging you, just continue making this videos, quality of videos, and what’s more important the quality of information that it consists just insane, pretty sure this channel will blow up
Thomas! Kicking ass per usual, We loved having you on the podcast. Let us know when you're in LA and we'd be happy to bring you back on to our in-person studio :). Continued success is coming, keep it up!
Engaging, fun and informative. I am honestly super happy that I found this video and channel. I am super excited to see Isle Child and other stuff that you have to offer! I sort of wish I had a more pertinent question to ask about but at times I feel like I'm too busy to start on any ideas I may have so I guess a question I have is how often do you work on and rework screenplays/scripts? Again, this is some amazing stuff. I love the quality of this video and the others on this channel as well as how inspiring this is for people who may feel less experienced or hopeful about their prospects in terms of funding. Keep up the great work! :)
Thanks so much for the kind words! On the first draft, I have to completely commit myself to the script until I finish. Then revisions are on and off whenever I have time and have gathered enough notes... will do a masterclass on this in the near future!
Thank you so much for the for the video. I’m in preproduction for my debut feature and was getting discouraged with how to raise the raising funds. I will definitely look into again thank you so much
Amazing video Thomas! I've been following you since NFFTY 2019 and so excited to see where ISLE CHILD goes. Always impressed with the work you do. You're such an inspiration! Thank you for this amazing information.
OK I have to say that this was one of the best videos that I have seen that didn't hold back on how to raise money for films. It wasn't vague at all and was clear. I just subscribed. I shot a feature film myself, we raised money and shot it ona micro-budget. We just had a premiere last month. Trying to raise money for the second film. It would be great to talk. Thanks again.
Congrats on your first feature! I think crowd equity could be a big asset for your 2nd... im avail in the email in description or for consultation in the first link... here if you need any help!
your work is absolutely amazing! the quality on this is insane! i was wondering if you have any advice on networking with people without film festivals and events etc
i just want to say thank you so much for the motivation to make my own films! ive always wanted to learn how to start a film project, build a film resume, and get my career started! Also congrats on the $1M Film! cant wait to see what you do in the future!
Awesome and inspirational video! This whole video is just eye candy! "That's the way the cookie crumbles" is one of my favourite quotes lol :) My question is... how do you style your hair?
This was extremely well made and definitely created a lot of intrigue in my mind - I've had a vision for creating a film along with a concept album / book (I'm a music producer / artist) so this has definitely sparked some ideas in my brain.
Well shit, I ain't got much to say except you got yourself another subscriber! The look, style, pacing, editing, information, all of it was solid. Just a great video overall my man. And thank you for some of that oh-so precious knowledge!
Ah thank you so much for enjoying my work! Looking forward to sharing more entertaining, educational vids on the "hollywood" journey in the coming years :)
THOMAS I LOVE THIS, can't wait for the next one. Question for ya, when you were first making shorts how did you come about finding actors? For example, did you post on social media? Reach out to local acting classes? Print dozens of flyers and throw them up downtown?
Thanks man!! Re actors, I reached out to notable actors directly via imdb pro for the lead roles, then reached out to local small casting directors or posted directly to websites like backstage!
Hi Thomas, this is so inspiring! I’m not going to ask a question here since I’ve already signed up for your 30-minute strategy session (Order #43), and I’m really looking forward to it. You’re truly inspiring-can’t wait to chat!
The world truly needs more artists like you. I wish you all the best in your career! I do have a question, though. I’m extremely ambitious about film, but making a feature film or something that requires a larger budget doesn’t feel right at the moment because I feel like I lack the necessary skills and knowledge. Aside from experience, where do you find the knowledge and technical skills to improve? Where should I start? When I talk about knowledge, I mean things like how to write compelling stories, the principles of cinematography so on and so on
That's a great question!! I've been getting a lot more of these types of questions to build up to a feature and will be focusing the episode after the next one more on this!
Congratulations! I know how hard it can be to make your dream come true so you have all my admiration. That being said, I wouldn't call the process easy. You clearly put in the work and shouldn't sell yourself short in that regard. I look forward to watching the finished film in the near future. Cheers
Thank you!! Yes, not "easy", but easy compared to how many hours I put in vs the output I got! Also beats waiting a decade for Hollywood studios to greenlight your movie... but I hear you man!
Thanks for sharing your journey . I am also working my sci-fi feature film with a zero budget and i am very confused sometimes how things work. Thanks for showing right direction.
Really good stuff! Both in content and production. Rare to see artists get their hands dirty with business, and super useful to watch the process with such transparency. Subscribing immediately!! Trust the algorithm cause it brought me to this. Good luck 😁
It's so refreshing to see another small time filmmaker making it big, I love your style of editing it's so refreshing, what editing software do you use, FCP,Adobe, davinci, and as a small time filmmaker, including my twin, what advice would you give.
Great video! Could you go more in depth on how you did things on the business side? Are there specific books that you read for the stuff on crowd equity and how to set things up?
Wefunder paired you with a staff member to help facilitate but I also provide all template contracts thru my consulting work linked in the description!
Re-painting the modern artist's journey man! No one talks about it in the way that I think it should be, and my goal is to build a community around all of us, empowering each other with knowledge and support!
This is the first time I’ve seen your work and I love it! The structure of the video is great and inspirational with stunning visuals. Great work and I’m excited to explore more of your work
Appreciate you checking it out! Hoping to blend the entertainment with the educational with these videos, and hopefully they'll only get better from here!
Love the investor research bit. Simple, but effective. I have a lot of questions- would love to interview you about the whole process tbh, but curious if you ended up making that money back and what type of incentives did you find most popular
I'm avail for free consultation linked in description! We have international sales team and potential distributors to sell to as we finish the film. Biggest incentive were investors who just wanted to be a part of the filmmaking/Hollywood process :)
UA-cam nailed it with this recommendation! great video, Thomas! You’ve got serious talent; I can see you making it to Hollywood in a few years. Just don’t forget to send me an invite to your first red carpet!
I was interested in film making and wanted to make a film I had a script of a movie Empty Island but I realised that I can't achieve my vision with the resources that I have then I thought what can we do with the existing resorces and decided to make a Minecraft series an uploaded the first episode (which you can watch on my UA-cam channel) but I didn't got response from and thought to give up but accidentally I click on this video and my whole prospective change. Now I will complete the Minecraft series and in future make my movie Empty Island. Thank you man By the way I am 17 And I know you didn't asked
I loved the video! I have three questions: What was your role in the movie, were you the one to direct it? How much of the money raised went to you? and how do you put a price on something like that?
I was the writer /director! And one of the producers and editors haha. I took home $0, actually negative $, bc I want to put every penny on screen... Price? Budget is made by line producer!
This video is a gem! I want to to build funds to make a video game, currently I am taking courses online and learning all of the skills required to make my Kickstarter ad. Should I go for crowd funding or crowd equity? How much equity did you have to give up to gain the investors? Thanks and I hope your movie becomes really successful! 😁
Go crowd equity only if you're able to sell the final product to make a return on investment to your investors! You can choose your valuation to set how much equity to give up :)
I’m working on accumulating short film experience, so I’m curious how was your experience with short film festivals? Did you worked having in mind that you was gonna sell the films? How many money did you spend in entry fees? How can I now if a festival is worth the effort? Any other tip for having success during this first steps in the career of a young filmmaker?
I had no idea the shorts were going to go anywhere! Most shorts don't make ROI. I only spent $ applying to the top maybe 15 festivals? Anything below top 20 or so isn't worth it. You don't know if you're gonna get in, it's a total lottery draw but worth playing if you feel you have a small chance. Sharing more soon throughout this year!
A few more questions, just out of curiosity if you have time. Genre of the film? Did you cast any notable talent? Was the production union or non union/where did you shoot/how many days? What was your above the line/below the line percentage allocation? Some of this may be too granular to answer here so I hope these questions aren't too invasive, feel free to decline answering any of them. I've optioned a few specs the last few years with myself attached to also direct and it has been a major uphill battle. Seriously considering this path now.
Np! Drama, cast kind of known talent? But not really. Non union, 25 ish days (lost a lot of time to thunderstorms), and not sure about budget allocation! It's like winning the lottery, trying to get your project made with you attached... Here in description if youre considering crowdfunding and need some guidance!
Hahaha thankfully a lot of the filmmaking skills from my narrative work translate to UA-cam... promising myself to stay at this for at least 2 years... and I keep my promises!
Got it! Here's the updated version: AMAZING VIDEO I hope one day it will be possible for me too! I have a question: how did you come up with the idea for the name of your channel? (P.S. There’s an album with this exact name. I recommend listening to it; it’s amazing!)
Oh wow I didn't know there was an album!! Listening to it now, so cool. Name implies disrupting/vandalizing the traditional gatekept methods of art-making, making the craft permissionless and more accessible!
Answering the first 1000 comments! ~TPK
How did you get in contact with that actor's agent?
What are your thoughts/opinions on making a £0 budget feature film?
@@leviteare6050 Sign up for imdb pro (trial if they still have it!) That has everyone in hollywood's emails :)
5:21 Can you explain this?
Out of private and public equity which is better for funding in your experience? What was that process like?
Its criminal to see content like this still undiscovered on UA-cam, but with this quality I feeling you're going to grow very quickly! Keep up the good work!
The "algorithm" is haunting... but hoping that just focusing on good work will the channel push through!
It’s really good

Q: What would your top 3 tips be to someone that wants to get into photography?
It's very inspiring to see such passion and hard work pay off like this, as well as fresh ideas being recognised.
I appreciate the support!

Extremely valuable stuff here. Thanks for presenting it in a way that cuts out the corporate bullshit and speaks to artists directly
There's too much gatekept knowledge! Sharing everything I know whilst on this journey...
Jim Cummings was such a welcome surprise! Easily one of the most exciting names in the industry today
Agreed! And one of the kindest, hard-working souls. :)
UA-cam nailed it with this recommendation! great video, Thomas! You’ve got serious talent; I can see you making it to Hollywood in a few years. Just don’t forget to send me an invite to your first red carpet!
Thanks sm for watching, Santi! Haha, we'll all get there together!
Thank you man
By the way I am 17
And I know you didn't asked
Hey that's awesome! Keep at it, and try to find your unique spin on the storytelling!
Thank you so much for this beautiful video and for sharing the knowledge you've gained!
So glad it was helpful!
This is one of the best video's I've seen in a while, from the start I was 100% hooked
The biggest compliment!!
Price? Budget is made by line producer!
wow! absolutely amazing quality. i'll be on the lookout for your future work :)
Aw thank you so much for watching and sharing the kind words! Looking forward to sharing much MUCH more for the next two years...
Your work is fantastic - loved this video, such an inspiring story - and made so sick! Can’t wait to see the film!
Appreciate it so much, excited to share more news about it soon!
U got insane talent
This is absolutely killer, Thomas! Amazing production quality and insights 🔥
Absolutely, thank you so much for watching/supporting!!
Did an honest double-take at the sub count
Good stuff bro this is insane!
I hope you decide to keep uploading on this channel
Hahaha thankfully a lot of the filmmaking skills from my narrative work translate to UA-cam... promising myself to stay at this for at least 2 years... and I keep my promises!
Got it! Here's the updated version:
AMAZING VIDEO
I hope one day it will be possible for me too!
This is so cool. I just had to raise tens of thousands for my NYU Senior Thesis Film so I went on Beast Games haha
Haha amazing!! Get that $
Making moves on YT now! Love to see it!🎉
Trying to make "professional filmmaking" more accessible!
