I really like this ship. It’s like the unofficial LAAT of the rebel alliance.
There is just something about that design, isn't there? Cockpit on top, troop bay slung underneath, with wide doors and turret mounts. Small enough to be in the thick of a furball, but big enough to carry the heroes where they need to go. And it always seems to have a lot of personality.
Angmor Dagnithil my thoughts exactly. Personally there’s a few things I would add to it but overall I really like it.
Remember in Battle Front 2 the Rebels would have a really out of place looking LAAT in their hangars since the films never gave them a proper troop transport.
It's the helicopter style doors on the side that remind me of the LAAT
Yeah, very similar but it is a drop ship instead of gunship
Of all the new ships introduced since Disney took over Star Wars, the U-wing is probably my favorite.
Rouge One is the single best thing to come from the Disney buy out and, barring some minor miracle for 9, I'll say that till I die
I like the Resurgeant, The Supremacy, the MC85, the imperial cargo ship, the Carrion Spike and the U-wing.
But my favourite is probably the Carrion Spike and my 2nd the MC85
@@Joesolo13 I agree - I think Rogue One is actually a good Star Wars movie, for the most part. And I liked these U-Wings right away.
But Solo was forgettable. TFA was apprehensively borderline. TLJ was utter vandalism by stupid children for stupid children.
Because it's the only ship that Disney has produced that is actually both original and functional , not to mention aesthetically pleasing unlike the absolute retardation that was the MG-100 Star Fortress.
I also love the U-Wing, I just wished I had it's Lego set to customize
A moment of silence for the brave pilots of Blue squadron. True heroes of the Rebellion.
F for the Fallen
F
@John Benjamin Tatum Bothans died for the Death Star II plans, if memory serves.
One of the few new ships that looks like it could have been from the original trilogy
If only the people doing the 7, 8, 9 series could have done as well an excellent job to make the designs of ships, gear and technology look like it belongs in the SW Universe.
Agreed. The only thing I hate is when the pylons sweep back. I prefer the long, slender look to fuckin' wide boy with long ass wings.
@@ShouldHaventJoined I mean, the ships in 7,8, and 9 don't look out of place in the starwars universe
@@ShouldHaventJoined wtf are you talking about? Half of them are the same ships from the OT
@@HiringHamblin umm most of the ships are shit designs n are completely non existent in legends
When you're a Shore-trooper on Scarif and just cleared the beach of Rebels but then another one of those pesky U-Wings lands and spits out another dozend of 'em:
*Ah shit, here we go again...*
"Alright squad, spray 'em!"
*Everyone dies*
"We need more time at the shooting range."
The Uwing is quite handedly the best vehicle to come from Rogue One. I wasn't a big fan at first but now looking at it, it's up there as one of my favorite ships in Star Wars.
I loved the role this ship served. There were transports and there were combat ships, but considering the scale of the war it was odd to not see any combat-capable transports.
Really like the U-Wing design, it feels very faithful to the design ethos of the original trilogy yet also feels fresh
The Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhaw-- er... I mean UT-60 U-Wing was a troop transport gunship used by the rebel alliance...
You're not supposed to notice that.
We weren't supposed to notice the M-60s either.
Going by that logic, the Republic's LAAT is basically an Mi-24 Hind gunship
@@isaiahlee2902 could be?
It is a drop ship tho
Admittedly, this was a ship that I didn't care much for when I first saw it, but over time it has grown on me to the point where it sits in my top five star wars strike craft list.
1. ARC-170
2. Xg-1 Star Wing
3. TIE/D Defender
4. LAAT
5. U-Wing
That's a pretty solid top 5!
I would cram a V-Wing there as well, but I love all of those ships to death!
All excellent craft, but I see that by the inclusion of the Star Wing Assault Gunboat, you too are a man of exquisite taste.
Much as I love the LAAT utilized by the Republic during the Clone Wars, I would prefer a U-Wing any day. The Hyperdrive capability makes all the difference, in my opinion.
Indeed, especially for an organisation like the ARR, who need to strike fast and hard and have to get out there again quickly.
I’d take the LAAT Just because of the Troop capacity, which is i believe double that of the u-wing
This ship is basically what you’d get if an X-wing and a LAAT had a baby.
If I find myself in the Star Wars galaxy, I'm getting myself one of these.
Reality Rejection Service Not only great for troop-transport, but also for light interplanetary shuttling/cargo transport!
I would also get one if it was commercially available to the public. It’s a solid transport ship and small enough to be maintained by one person. I like this ship a lot. 👍
Wings move on a bunch of ships in Star Wars. I always wondered why, besides the cool factor, as a kid, but the in cannon reason being heat dissipation for reactors, engines, and weapons makes actual engineering sense for the craft. The real truth from Lucas is it looks cool and makes for cool toys, but it also makes SW just so industrial and lived in instead of some overly clean, nearly sterile Sci-Fi other franchises have headed towards.
Uhm...yeah and? By the end of the day. Looking cool is all that matters. Or just be like every other Sci-Fi show out there. If Star Wars was going to be like every other Sci-Fi series. It would have been forgotten or lost in the shuffle.
The X-Wing and B-Wings S-foils widen the weapon coverage and allow for damage to be dealt over a wider area on enemy targets in addition to the heat sink functions. The U-Wings and ARC-170s are purely for heat distribution. There is also the idea that the spreading of the X-Wing's S-foils stabilize it during combat maneuvers, spreading the mass out rather than lumping it together.
just bobbed onto UA-cam and this was waiting for me, i'd say that's a cherry ontop of an already good day :)
(got a brand new keyboard! Wooting one for those wondering)
Don't know about y'all, but every time I see that U-wing door gunner firing at that AT-ACT I want to yell "Get some!!!!" ;-)
People like to compare this to the LAAT but they were each made for entirely different kinds of warfare. The U-Wing is much better for the guerrilla tactics used by the rebels. The LAAT is great for inserting large amounts of troops the rebels don’t have, supported by heavy equipment they don’t have, deployed from capital ships they can’t afford.
Absolutely loved this ship. It finally gave the Rebels canon wise their own shuttle craft and it was cool looking too. It would be cool to see what the New Republic adopted next to replace these starfighter gunships.
General Merrick's mustache was epic.
One of my favourite SW ships. Pretty sure it will crop up as the player ship somehow in the next FFG Star Wars rpg campaign I run...
It sort of looks like a snow speeder and X-wing that have been bolted together and fed a steady diet of protein powder and kreatine.
Probably the best thing added by Disney into Star Wars lore. That and Force Ghost Yoda using lightning, dont @ me
Psst. Any plans for breakdowns for the TIE Striker and TIE Reaper?
Best Sci-Fi dropship ever. It's a blasted Huey IN SPACE with all the charm that entails. Would love to see a story with one as a hero ship for the crew.
You should watch "Aliens".
@@TheGreatSteve I feel like that's more of a hybrid of the Huey and the Cobra.
I feel in love with it at first sight.
Fun fact: Blue Squadron was originally going to be part of the Deathstar run at the Battle of Yavin. The blue paint was too close to the blue screens used in 1976 and so had to be changed to Red Squadron. Blue Squadron in Rogue One was a tribute to that change.
Could you do breakdown of Raza from Dark Matter please?
Of*
@@yodaslovetoy Thanks :D
@@-skinner-6542 👍
Yes please!
One of my all time favorite StarCraft. Like, I feel as though this is the perfect size ship for someone to make into a sort of camper/mobile home.
This and the Z-95 Vid are my favorite Spacedock episodes!
Good man. Love the narrating
Strap a pair of E-webs on the sides and let them be controlled by the gunner on the inside, and you've got a makeshift gunship that can fight pretty well against TIEs and mow down infantry.
2:54 The forward gears retract into the wings
That must be hell to maintain
This is Blue Leader Standing by.
>Don't check Spacedock videos for a while
>Oh cool it's a Star Wars ship again, nice
>WHAT IS THIS NEW VOICE
New voice is cool, I was just surprised.
Probably busy with the Sojourn
The only SW ship that will allow you to blast “Fortunate Son” at full volume without looking like a dumbass.
I need more of this ship!
one of my favorite ships
Dropships have to be my favourite type of craft, even better when its a gunship that can act as a dropship, probably why the Mi-24 "Hind" is my favorite aircraft of all time
From what I saw in Rogue 1:A Star Wars Story that during the Battle of Scariff it was revealed during the ground battle when the Alliance's Blue Squadron got to the surface and opened fire with they're blasters that an X-Wing has the firepower to penetrate an At-At's armor as apparently the T65 X-Wing has stronger blasters compared to the Alliance's snowspeeders eitherthat or the armor of the At-At's seen on Scariff was weaker than the ones seen during the Battle of Hoth.
gawd I love the U-wing the type of ship that the rebels needed lorewise.
Reminds me, I have a U wing model kit I still need to put together. The U wing is probably the best thing out of the new Star Wars movies.
By far my favourite Star Wars ship. Although an ion turrent on the top and another pair of laser cannons would make it better. :)
In squadrons you can equip U-wings with tractor beams or ordnance, and ion cannons. This would make the U-wing a great police starfighter for the new republic as well.
You could almost hear the door gunner yelling "Get some!"
Finally some cred for this best troop transport
Has anyone ever read the Honor series? The writer has some good ideas on the ship designs.
A-Wing + X-Wing + Cadillac
This is honestly my favorite ship from the new movies.
Don't know if anyone's noticed, but the U-wing is based off a very old comic book design of the Mk.I Headhunter from Han Solo at Star's End, complete with variable geometry wings and shape in general.
Excellent breakdown as usual. I love how there were very few of these craft which makes their lack of presence in the latter films work for me. One slight nit pick.. you refer to the cockpit layout as 'tandem', (which is one pilot behind the other). It's actually a 'side by side' layout.
1:35 used to be my computer backround 0-o
U-Wing is probably my favorite ship besides X wing
Yay my favourite ship next to the x Wing.
I love spacedock videos. ;)
Would love to see you cover Eve Online. Great ships like Gila, Stratios, Nyx, and Succubus
You people do phenomenal work. Well done!
My all time favorite ship from the Disney era.
Is this the best troop transport in star wars, or is it trying to be too many things all at once. The first order's AAL-1971/9.1 Troop Transport was just a flying box full of stormtroopers but it did it's one task well in that it got more troops on the ground quickly, the U-wing is a good long range ship, ok fighter, ok support ship and ok troop transport.
I loved the design and capabilities of this ship, but if Incom was looking to sell these things as troop transports I've got an odd feeling they may not have been as successful as they would have hoped.
I don't feel like "Troop Transport" was really the market this would fill for any military. Covert insertion craft, on the other hand...
Remind me of the Thunderfighter from Buck Rogers of the 25th Century Television
This is my #1 favorite ship in Star Wars next to the X-Wing!
I wish there would be a Gunship U-Wing.
I don't think its a very efficient design, it seems enormous for its capacity & role, but I absolutely adore the U-Wing aesthetically. I have a Lego one!
This ship did not save the lives of its crew, they watch as the death star fired its primary weapon.
[Muffled It ain't Me in the distance]
How can it be a tandem cockpit when the pilots sit side by side? Have people already forgotten the scenes with K2SO and Cassian in the cockpit? Or the illustration in the information book showing the side by side seating? Tandem seating is one seat behind the other like, for example, in the F14, F4 or the Tornado.
Very good. Thanks
Enjoyed this video
My favorite drop ship in Star Wars.
Gonna need to update this since its now a ship in Squadrons
Favorite ship. Top 5.
Honestly I think I just found my new fav Star Wars ship.
Alistair is really getting the hang of this now, nice job.
I love u-wing new Republic use
This is one of my favorite ships
👍Thumbs Up👍 My Autistic Daughter (&I) 💯% LOVE this Video🍻&💚!!! Thanks😊
She keep pointing at this ship on our poster and I didn't know what it was so Thanks again for her birthday is next week so I'm going to try and find a toy if possible. 🤟
Hey look! Spacedock made another video!
Oh wait, it's not Stargate?
Alright. I guess I'll watch it anyway.
I love this ship.
There was U Wings in the battle over Exegol
Such a beautiful ship.
I would definitely take this ship.
@Spacedock can you break down Arcadia from Space Pirate Captain Harlock please
Love the Videos As Always keep it up
I've been waiting to see what the stats are for this ship in the starwars RPG universe but as of yet to see even a hint. If you feel so inclined to give your opinion on that. I know I'd be grateful. Though being real. Would hardly expect it. Regardless. Great video. Love your work.
Honestly this is my favorite ship in star wars, km not sure why but it's just so fuckin cool!
That ship really Fortunates my Son
When are we getting The Sojourn?
Those wings were massive. I didn’t like that while facing forward, they sweep back to *vent heat from the engines* . It doesn’t make sense to me. Should’ve kept them fixed forward and use them as sensors or targeting systems.
Still an outstanding design both as a troop carrier and a gunship.
They should have done everything they could to acquire sufficient manufacturing to be able to produce these in numbers. This ship was potentially war winning.
Can we get this voice to review all the other ship breakdowns? Original voice was great, but this one sounds better. Just my personal opinion.
Imagine the tag team this thing and the LAAT could have created.
The U-Wing ship is the MVP of Rogue One.
Dalek ship next?
I have a question,if the u-wing was barely produced, why was it used by the rebels constantly in battlefront 2 the bad version
the official production ended before the war started but the rebels secretly made more after the battle of yavin
I imagine that last shipment of U-Wings was rather large. Also, the rebel alliance definitley had more than just U-Wings acting as troop transports.
the superior version*
becaue it's a videogame you fuckk if everything was lore serious you strip prt of the fun away
I'll just say this, they say multiple times that they were barely made and the rebels only had a few,and stuff like the b wing and the x wing were directly given blueprints of by incom and stuff leading to there mass production by the rebel alliance
totally cool
think a u-wing could carry a decent size cargo crate on it's under belly? asking for a star wars FFG Campaign I'm doing
So...was the armor on the legs of an ATAT uprated before ESB? Or is this ability to shoot out their legs a continuity error? I find it hard to believe a door gun on a U-wing is more powerful than the main blasters on a snow speeder.
The walkers in Rogue One are AT-ACTs, a cargo variant of the AT-AT. Because of that they are lighter armored, but also bigger and heavier. The ion gun on the U-wing in Rogue One disabled the tensor field in the the leg joints of the walkers. Because of that the leg joints were destroyed by the walkers' own weight.
@@Luca-kd2sg Finally, someone paying attention to the fact it was an ion weapon, not a blaster.
Is there a slot for the turret near the engine?
Please, GIVE US THE SOJOURN EPISODE !!!!!!!
Could you do a video on Captain Harlock’s ship, the Arcadia?
antoc merrick the best sw character
