The design for the U-Wing just is the most classy and sleek design I've seen in ages. Whoever came up with it really knocked it out of the park; it's easily my favorite ship in Star Wars, along with that Imperial shuttle.

@@TheGrandJesterTabletop The TIE Striker, also from Rogue One was pretty cool too. Oh and cant forget the other support ship in Squadrons, the TIE Reaper, which was also introduced in Rogue One. Generally Rogue One had very good ship design.

(it was Clone Wars craft, created by company what went bankrupt long time ago and T-85 has comparable firepower). @@TheRezro if you didn't know, the y wing used in the sequels was a brand new and incredible design of Y wing, called the BTA NR2 Y-Wing. So no, it's not outdated, they managed to make something new but based off an old design heavily

It only look like Y-Wing but it is a escort fighter, what has no photon torpedoes as they are illegal in New Republic. @JB JG I'm not convinced a whole lot of post-launch content will be coming for this game, but I could see it. To fit with Disney/EA canon though, it would need to be even less agile than the Y-Wing while also less rugged, but packing the most firepower of any rebel fighter. The Empire would need a new ship as well. The TIE Striker would get my vote, but bringing the TIE Scimitar into canon would be a more appropriate counterpart, and the TIE Advanced V1 model is already in the game.
The U-wing is bar none the best ship to come into canon from Disney. Amazing how i wasn't a fan of it at first glance (cause it's Space cruising mode looked too wide for my liking) but man is it just a gorgeous ship design and a *perfect* Rebel craft. I'm so glad it's here now.

The reblion used a lot of stuff early on and even late in to the war used strange things. Even seprtist ships where used. But the U wing is closer to yavin while during jedi fallen order there where still full clone units aka purge troopers running about.
In the old Battlefront 2 (The one for the Og xbox/Ps2) game they did use the republic LAAT’s

Like during the Battle of Scariff a single U wing actually managed to take out an AT AT when one of it's gunners took aim at the legs and destroyed the knee joint causing the AT AT to crash.
After my squad got destroyed in a dog fight 8-30 because of an enemy Ace support pilot I decided to give it a try. I must say I really enjoy flying Support now. I’m now always close to the top on the scoreboard and it’s an awesome feeling helping a squad member at a critical moment.
The UWing is definitely my favorite!! Hope we get to see it more in Cassian Andor series
the U-wing doesnt have a 'tandem' cockpit.
a tandem cockpit seats the pilots one behind the other. the Arc-170 is a tandem seater as is the LAAT
the U wing features a side-by-side seating configuration
Its more of a uh1 huey (u wing) than a mi24 hind (laat) or p61 black widow (arc 170)
I love the U-wing, when its wings are folded out it reminds me of Star Fox's Arwing. Great vid Gen Tech!

This is actually a really interesting ship and I am thinking of being mainly a support player so learning its equipment before the game releases is great. I am also I excited for the tie reaper episode, I no a very limited amount about it and I have only seen it on Scarif where death troopers were deployed from it.
Back when the West End RPG was a thing. I created a similar concept by using the Star Frontier’s Assault Scout. My players were other members of the Armor and Infantry units I was stationed with. Fast forward through a lot of disappointment with the prequels and Episode VII. At that point I had sworn off the SW franchise. The trailers of Rogue 1 brought me back and when I saw the U-Wing I knew immediately what it was used for.
The U wing is probably one of the best troop transports in SW, from a practical standpoint within its own faction, its fast, which makes it pretty ideal for hot infiltration and exfiltration it isn't as heavily armed as say the LAAT, but then again it doesn't need to be, its not sticking in one place for that long, and it goes fast enough that turrets would have a hard time tracking anything that wasn't a starfighter tailing them, and it isn't really meant to be in that situation without some X-Wings or other fighters escorting it.
If SW Squadrons wanna make the U-wing more appealing, I think a heavy bomber variant could be made from it. Though most bombing runs are usually done with the Y-wings.
Is it just me or people have a special place in their heart for practical ships
Allen, tandem means a seat behind the front seat like the F-14, F-4 or a Tornado or a tandem bicycle not side by side seating as shown. This error first popped up in Rogue One paraphernalia and has been repeated numerous times.

As for the wings, things that stick out symmetricaly from a main body are referred to as wings even though they don't provide lift: The wings on an ocean going ship's bridge. A wing of a building.
The U-Wing is definitely one of my favorite ships in the Star Wars universe! Not only is it made by Incom Corporation which made the X-Wing, but I could also use it as a mobile home. It's cannons are powerful enough to damage an Imperial Light Cruiser which is a pretty impressive feat. It's rare meaning it is very valuable. Overall one of the best ships ever!
Honestly modding the U-wing and upgrading it a bit, it would be awesome to have as a personal ship to live in. Maybe give it a Lil better paint job.
LAAT is more beautiful to my mind. Unfortunately it doesn`t fit that type of war
Unshielded and much slower, but possibly more firepower. The LAAT was a good ship for its time, allowing for large amounts of units to get to the field rapidly but the rebellion didn't have so many personal.

The LAAT is much more in line with the GAR and the clone wars as a whole while the U-Wing always just seems like the quintessential "rebel" ship, from the look to the purpose the whole thing just seems made for the rebellion and their war

Yes i love the U-Wing But the Incom design i love the most is off Course the T65B X-Wing And on the Imperial Side the TIE Striker but unfortunately the TIE striker is for in atmosphere patrol only.

I think that the u wing would be an amazing bounty hunter ship it has a hyper drive shields a troop bay witch can be converted to a cargo bay with to scars doors it could use a gun package but it is fast so it might not need it if it has any other ship with it
Mr. Alan said the U wing had a tandem pilot arrangement but this is incorrect. Tandem seating denotes a 1 in front of the other, as in most common fighters of our day. As shown in the video the pilot arrangement would have been what called a side by side seating arrangement. Just thought I would make the correction.

I want to see a live action tv series about a rebel alliance or imperial infantry unit. No force sensitives, no reyd shadow legends, just average joes fighting for their beliefs. Kind of like band of brothers

Ngl, this has become one of my new favorites
so I have a question. if all of the tie fighters incorporate solar panels which convert heat back into energy to supplement their onboard power plants, why don't incom designs scrap the S foils entirely and simply use that extra heat to supplement onboard power as well? I get that this is just a retcon to explain why x wings and tie fighters got their iconic shape but seriously, you can't tell me after the z95, arc 170, xwing, and u wing that nobody said "hey guys why don't we just add a thermal energy plant to reduce profiles and reduce the necessary size of the engines".
That pad on the hull between the engines would be a perfect mounting point for rear turret... make it a proper gunship
This ship is very cool but it is very much a replacement for the LAAT gunships of the Republic army. As such I think that the main reason we would not see them much in the main media of the Star Wars universe as due to its role it would mainly be used for transporting and supporting ground troops/commando teams.
U wing with some UltraChome armor slapped onto it, class 1 hyperdrive is plenty fast, upgrade the weapons and shield generator with the best the galaxy has to offer is a nice package.
Hope they give us the B-wing as either a Hero ship/Elite ship/ Or just a DLC ship, so long those S-foils work, the Gyro would be fun too.

That would be cool, I was a bit disappointed it wasn't included in the initial release. But if they do like a dlc system they could also pair it with the TIE Defender for a new class
@@jaydenwood2591 Eghm... B-Wing isn't same class type as TIE Defender. My Guess would be TIE Defender vs T-70 (or E-Wing, but I don't like that one) and B-Wing vs TIE Aggressor.
@@TheRezro i think the B-wing and Defender are better choices to in a sense divulge the 2 sides a bit. Plus both ships are iconic and are mainstays in the lore now (in the case of the Defender) so it makes sense.
The DLC following up the B-wing and Defender could then add more obscure ships that also reverse the ship role types introduced with B-wing/Defender. Here would (probably) be E-wing (Defender contemporary) and the Aggressor/Punisher (B-wing contemporary) it would also allow for the reintroduction of these previously "non-canon" starfighters. (For the E-wing it would be the 1st operational appearance of the craft since legends)

I think when they made this ship and also did a Civilian version for rebels they used The ailing as a base To begin with if you look at its like a bulked you A-wing which makes sense to make it as such

The New Republic should have produced Republic LAAT Gunships instead of the U-Wing as a small troop transport and support vehicle. While the U-Wing was a good ship, the LAATs serve the role better due to being better weaponization and it was smaller, so more maneuverable for it’s role as a gunship. The U-Wing had a door gunner, just like a Huey did in Vietnam, but the LAAT had missiles that could take out larger targets such as the Trade Federation starships in the first battle of Geonosis. Each ship serves the infantry support and transport role great, but in my opinion the LAAT did a better job than the U-Wing.

Here from the future: it's the best ship to pilot if you're a rebel. Lots of hull points, big guns, great auxiliary system options, not at all difficult to pilot. It's literally the best.

It's unfortunate for this ship, it could of been the best drop/gun ship in starwars if it didn't have a weak ass carrying capacity of 8 people. For me the tie reaper takes the cake 🎂
Yeah max 8 people is rather a let down. But I guess it wouldn’t be as fast a craft if it carried more.
Well to the rebels, 8 soldiers is a lot of men as they had to utilize hit and run tactics along with covert missions

In those screen shots, its looking like, stat wise, that the two support crafts have basically identical stats? Did they actually figure out ways to make the ships distinct, or are they just reskins of one another, bearing the same ion weaponry too?
UT-60D U-Wing... UH-60 Blackhawk. Really subtle guys. Regardless, this ship kicks ass and blows its competition (The TIE Reaper) out of the water with how effective it is as a dropship/gunship.

Utility and support craft not a mainline star fighter I'm ok with that it's not meant to threaten superiority or win wars by itself after acquiring one they should have been able to produce more of course in secret and should've had other optional models
