Win11 on the 7800X3D with 6000mts Hynix A on the latest Agesa update is literally the snappiest and satisfying PC experience I’ve ever had.
I upgraded from a 10700k, kept every component from my 3yr old system apart from the MOBO, ram and CPU and couldn’t be happier

Yeah, the ryzen hitting same performance with lower power draw and being a year old compared to this chip was the point I made too. Wattage matters for price to me because PSU. Also brought up the new intel arc drivers with 750% performance boost and should have brought up that there's release dates and specs and everything out now on the next lineup of RDNA 4 AMD GRAPHICS cards. So as politely as possible there is new stuff to talk about despite there being a little of a lull in the industry. New threadripper consumer CPU. Intel battlemage notes and teasers, new frame generation software for high end games like cyberpunk on some cards there's now new ray tracing stuff this week. List goes ON

One thing to add. If you have the 14700k and are going to use it for gaming and rendering and so forth you can set the power limits on power limit 1 & 2 to something around 125-150w and the gaming performance take like maybe a 1-2% hit and rendering performance takes a 2-8% hit depending on the task intensity. but you get significantly lower power draw and lower temps. funny thing. even when the 14700k is limited to 125w it destroys the 7800x3d in actual productivity tasks still. goes to show that AMD only wanted to reign supreme with the 7800x3d in the gaming category and absolutely they have done it. but as an overall cpu package. I won't even consider it.

If you primarily game, the 7800X3D is a perfectly fine choice. The thing is that if you throw heavily threaded tasks around, then the I7 has 12 more E-cores to throw at the job. Also, the Intel P-cores are actually quite a bit faster than the 7800X3D cores if data sets are small enough to fit in the L1/L2 cache, but these days nothing is. That 96MB L3 cache on the X3D is the only reason AMD is winning any benchmark, getting a cache hit in L3 is way faster than waiting for data from system memory.

In my honest opinion, it is the better choice over the 7800x3d if one wants to have a balanced computer that can literally do it all. That means anyone who does an IT related job as their career while also gaming. But if you deliver pizzas at day time and just wanna game, 7800x3d is the way. But look at the difference in FPS in 1440p and 4k, it's basically nothing. That I don´t know. What I know is that it is way more optimized when it is in a range from 1-25% cpu usage which is casual browsing and maybe even in some simple games. If you utelise it more then that it swings into amd´s favour. It all comes down to what you do and what time period that is occupying. because even tho AMD uses less Power on average you can set a PL with intell that comes close without losing any performance at all. If you leave PL open as it is the MB standard then yes the Intell Cpu´ssuck you dry in gaming or other Tasks. So simply put if you like optimising your pc and you game a lot but also Idle a lot Intell is better. if you game all day and barely Idle Amd is better. If you work and time is importand Intell is hands down better. If you have spare time and get payed by Hours then AMD is the way to go.@@MomosMong

It's weird that when the 12th gen and Zen 3 CPUs came out, no one said that Intel was a better value because it has multiple generations ahead of it on the same motherboards and that AMD was a dead socket, they said Zen 3 was good upgrade value for old AMD users on 1000 and 2000 era Ryzen processors.
Then at the 14th gen, instead of saying that it's a good upgrade path value to put a 14700k in for people on 12400 and below processors, they said it's a dead socket and praised AM5 7000 series as having an upgrade path again.
The nonsensical astroturfing around "AMD Value" is a head scratcher for me. When AMD is beginning of socket, it's a good upgrade path. When Intel is beginning of socket, the dead socket on AMD gets attention. Even though, as shown here, the X3D chip has at best a 4% gaming performance advantage and like 40-50% less performance in all productivity and media editing multicore situations vs its Intel i7 counterpart.

    • @Barksyyy
      @Barksyyy 9 місяців тому +1

Intel kinda shot themselves in the foot with their 14th gen but you do make some valid points. I was impressed when they released their 13th gen and found that a 13600k was as good if not better than their previous 12700k which imo was the best all rounder at the time for price to performance, while also coming out cheaper even if it was slightly more expensive than their previous 12600k and while it did get mentioned in a number of reviews as being a great leap in performance it wasn't quite praised or emphasised as much as the AMD upgrade path but that's what happens when you try to cater to the average consumers who rarely bother to upgrade and just end up buying new. There's probably still quite a few people out there running a Ryzen 3 from 2018 for example who have little to no idea they could bring their PC specs up to date by only spending a few hundred on a new CPU and GPU, so of course most reviewers are gonna keep trying to hammer it into them if it means they save them some money and then in turn end up subscribing to their channel. Plus everyone loves an underdog and wants AMD to put pressure on Intel and Nvidia. The trouble is AMD doesn't even wanna step up to the plate half the time and are quite happy where they are. In this instance they can put in half the effort and recieve all the praise while Intel already being on top are due to recieve all the criticism whenever their products aren't up to scratch. It's a funny old game which is why I find it cringe whenever I hear all this team red, team green, team blue bs. Bottom line is they're all as bad as each other. While Nvidia may be greedy for upping their prices AMD are just as bad for helping them prop them up and reinforcing those prices by upping theirs too but oh no AMD are so kind for offering cheaper alternatives when in reality they could probably still shave another 100 or 200 off their pricing schemes and start taking a bigger share of the market by offering real value for money and producing more GPU's but that might actually require some actual effort/reinvestment and would take away money from their shareholders, so nope, continue to be greedy just don't be as greedy as Nvidia and continue to keep beating Intel at their bigger number better game but let's just ignore those 1% lows which I've seen a few reviewers mention when testing games that it can cause some noticeable stutters (maybe cos they're not all running 4090's) but again it seems to get overlooked in favor of higher benchmarking scores and lower power consumption. Either way it's all very interesting to see when you learn to read between the lines but kinda unfortunate too cos I really wanna build a new PC but just can't bring myself to do it unless I know I'm getting a good deal. Sometimes having too much knowledge tis a gift and a curse lol

I replaced the motherboard with a different manufacturer and I faced the same issues. On top of that, general computing was a pain in the ass, lots of instability on AMD, that went away the moment I went and bought an Intel machine. All those numbers became immediately meaningless for me. AMD is really good if you are a youtuber who edits these videos on a Mac, and runs the games AMD tells them to to make AMD look better to get that fat sponsorship. Oh and you need to train your ram on AMD, something that just works on Intel. On intel, go in and enable xmp. Boom done, boot and enjoy. On AMD you go in and put the numbers in by hand, and god forbid you lose power to the machine because it will lose the settings. Yeah in their infinite wisdom, decided NOT to save your tune in the BIOS. Just buy intel if you value your sanity.

I don't have necessarily an issue with the comparison, BUT in order to make a conclusion based on the price you can't exclude the price of the RAM you used to test the CPUs. Currently, AMD 7800X3D + 32 GB DDR5 6000 MHz CL30 is $450 (360+90) vs the 14700K + 32 GB DDR5 7600 MHz CL36 is $569 (404+165). So the 14700K system is 26% more expensive, and without considering you need a much more expensive CPU cooler and a more expensive PSU... making again the point of comparison a little bit silly. For gaming there is no competition, If you want the best get the 7800x3D, are you on a budget? get the 5800X3D. If you want productivity, probably you don't need any advice, because you know which CPU is faster in your workload and then maybe gaming is secondary, and in that case, the 5950x, 7950x, 75950X3D, 14700K 12900K, 13700K, and 13900K are all good options

The price comparison you did is iffy. You don't need an over-the-top cooler with the 14700k as Techdeals showcased that when testing the 13900k with a noctua-air cooler, it ran just fine.
PSU is kind of a moot point; you have RTX 4090 money (as shown in the benchmarks), you have good PSU money too. I wouldn't dare cheap out on my PSU powering my expensive rig to save $20-30. Especially if you're considering upgrading the 7800x3d to something like a 9800x3d or 8800x3d in the future which is a big selling point of am5 is the upgrade path. You don't know for certain what can happen with the tdp of these chips either staying the same or increasing beyond the capability of your PSU.
Also, aren't am5 motherboards generally more expensive than z690/z790 boards? You'd have to factor that in as well. I remember this being true in the past but not sure if it still holds today. Overall factoring in the price differences, it comes to about more or less the same. if you live near a microcenter, the motherboard/cpu/ram bundles has the 7800x3d system being $30 cheaper than the 14700k bundle, but the included ram for both bundles is average.
I agree with your overall conclusion at the end though. You know what CPU makes the most sense for you. Me personally (I have the 13900k) , I don't mind having sacrificing a few FPS for the extra cores for background tasks like Spotify, UA-cam, Discord, Wallpaper Engine, gameplay recording tools, etc.

And 7200C34 is 110$, there won't be much difference. And imo it's dumb to buy 6000 20$ cheaper anyway, you'll reuse your memory later when you upgrade. It may be not important now, but 8800X3D, for example, may have support for 7200 and benefit from it.

I feel power consumption is blown out of proportion a bit. The 14700k's max power draw is 91W higher than the 7800x3d. It's unlikely either chip will run that hard while gaming, but the electricity cost difference won't be that great if they do. A kWh costs an average of 17¢. Including the cost of air conditioning, you'd have to run both at full steam for 24 hours straight to realize a costs savings of just 50¢. If you think that's a big deal, 10 minutes in the shower cost 50¢ as well. The energy consumption difference is trivial.

Coding usually doesn't require a powerful CPU, especially if you're just starting. You can easily run editors, language runtimes, local web server, databases etc with 7800x3d. Where I live it's almost 100 euro cheaper. If gaming is going to be your primary activity it probably makes more sense to go with 7800x3d, which will work great with 50 bucks air cooler. If paying extra money for basically no benefit is Ok for you, go with 14700k. It's basically as good as 7800x3d for gaming (especially if you play at resolutions higher than 1080p) and better in everything else (You probably don't need, won't use, and wouldn't notice any difference.).

Most gamers are running well below that level of GPU, so the 7800X-3D makes sense for them _only_ if they have realistic plans to upgrade their GPU to top-tier. Im stuggling with an important "gamer" decision. Upgrade to a 14700k from a 12900k or buy a 7800x3d and a new mb. I currently have a 12900k paired with 32gb of 6200mhz DDR5 at CL36 (i know its bad)
The problem is the 12900k is giving me upwards of a 20% bottleneck at 3440x1440p with frame generation enabled.
Do you believe the 14700k paired with my current ram is worth it over spending the extra on a 7800x3d? Any advice wpuld be appreciated as my 4090 is going to waste.

It depends on what you use it for, I’ve got a 13700K system and 7800X3D system. The AMD system is a gaming powerhouse and it will have drop in CPU options for a few more years. The Intel system is on the last MB cycle, so to get newer CPU’s, I’d have to buy a new board. If you already have a Z690/Z790, I’d recommend buying the 14700K and ride it out for a few more years. You could also grab a 14900K as well if you really want to maximize the board.

I need to try and get this case apart first (Corsair 5000d) can i shyt figure out how to get the side panel off so i can put my three fans in the side. Also, for some reason my 360mm aio won't top mount as the cpu power adapter is in the way, it shouldn't be but it is.

I wouldn't say so. 14700k is on a dead platform, less power efficient, more expensive overall for very similar performance. Most of users don't do any serious work on their pc, they mostly play games and for them the 7800x3d is the clear winner. I wouldn't ever get intel cpu, unless I'd really need the extra performance to work on it. Don't forget that 7800x3d is not even that slow in applications lol. Those are 8 modern cores with like 5ghz. Probably enough for most of the regular tasks. I'm not saying that intel is bad choice here, just if someone really values his money that he spends on things, should definitely consider 7800x3d instead of a 14700k.

@@raze618 I am not saying Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a bad choice. It is clearly a better gamer but 14700K is better overall.
      Here is the problem:
if you are limited by 144Hz monitor, then basically you achieve similar performance due to your monitor refresh rate.
If you are limited by midrange or older Graphics Card, then it is also likely Core i7-14700K can achieve similar performance as Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

Kind of a ridiculous argument to say it doesnt matter if one is better because of the limitation of a monitor. Games WILL get more demanding over time and if you choose the better of 2 for gaming then it will last longer. Even if you have an older graphics card, they can upgrade it at some point and be better off. You can also have some serious heat issues with the 14700k im sure. I appreciated the comparison between the 2 chips. However you tested gaming, which was your original point. Then dismissed the upgrade path for the RyZen chip and praised the intel chip for other things you didnt even test, going as far as stating it was the better all around chip. No evidence in this video, just an opinion, or some may say bias. Ok maybe so, but what was the point in the testing to begin with when you were probably going to say the same thing before starting. Dont misunderstand, I enjoyed the gaming comparison. But it seems to me there needs to be 3 different testing scales. One for gaming, one for production, and one for doing both. Sometimes it seems there are 2 different worlds. One for the average person and one for the content creaters. Yes I do watch the creaters. Just wonder if they look too far above the average watcher.

Its pointless to buy Intel honestly. It’s a dead end platform so no upgradability and your complete build will be much more expensive. You need a z790 board that costs twice as much as a b650, you need much faster and more expensive ram (at least 7200mhz but preferably 7600 compared to the cheap 6000mhz kits for amd), you also need a much more expensive cooling and especially an AiO if you will be doing high load productivity while the 7800X3D can be cooled with a dirt cheap 30 dollar air cooler no joke (i haven’t seen it using more than 60 watts total), and also need a bigger so more expensive power supply. It just doesn’t make sense right now.
Maybe the brand new 15th gen in late 2024.

Edit: Idle power consumption might be a problem I found out.
With Intel, you have a heater included lol, so saving some money there :P unless of course you don't want to heat your room in the summers or hotter climates, then those extra few hundreds of watts that the Intel CPU needs will not just be felt due to your higher power bill. The insanely lower power consumption of the 5800x3D combined with the better upgrade path for the future also make it the much more environmentally friendly option. I don't know about you but I want to speak with my wallet and say that an offering by AMD with as crazy a power efficiency as the 5800x3D should be the future. Increasing performance of newer hardware by just forcing more watts through the part should not be the future.

Good comparison. The large improvement in AMD performance comes from the huge cache the chip has which I have to give to AMD for sure. they definitely made an amazing chip tailored towards gamers and that's where the chips really shine. As for the intel CPU's I think as developers learn to efficiently make use of the E cores, Intel CPU will see tremendous improvements in gaming performance. Intel does have to work harder to make this a real competition now because AMD has certainly taken the lead at this point in the game. its really tremendous to see the growth AMD has gone through since 2018. Kudos to them. I hope now Intel can get off their high horse and start showing some improvements. the 12th gen was a nice surprise but since then its been disappointing. 14700k might be the only cpu to go after from intel if you don't have the 1700 socket but in all honesty, wait for the 15th gen and new socket unless you really need to get a new cpu and want one that is an all around performer then I would look into the 14700k.

The worst thing about 7800X3D is idle power consumption, and if iirc it was always this bad since Zen 1. 25W is completely fucked up. 3 hours of browsing will waste all gains from 1 hour of gaming. To put it into perspective, recent mobile chips are using about 12W for almost 1/2 of 7800X3D Geekbench performance so 2 of them will have almost the same MT performance as 7800X3D while using the same power as 7800X3D is using just doing nothing.

It's not that bad considering a CPU is just a part of the total power consumption of a given system. If you look at total power consumption comparisons (there are several on the internets), Ryzen 7800X3D systems are very close in total power consumption in idle to Intel's 14700k system total power consumption in idle. A bit worse, yes, and I agree that AMD should have made a better job on that, but in general the difference is not in any way as dramatic as the difference between them under full load (where Intel is much much higher to a ridiculous degree, like more than ~100W in many instances easy).
