Yep. I bought this board months ago. Lubed browns, got those stabs, swapped to pbt key caps and added that thin white foam. Sounds fantastic. Next will be this cheap 12 key, two knob hotswappable keypad. I’m going to grab some low profile switches and keys and swap out the knobs for something shorter as well.
Warms my heart watching this. I spent about a year watching videos in this community hoping to get a mechanical board for myself, and recently purchased my first board, the RK61, deliberately with it being a budget board to get started as a complete beginner. I also swapped out the RK switches for Gateron Milky Yellows, so seeing a UA-camr with way more experience I admire doing the same thing is great! I went for some cherry profile PBT keycaps (haven't had any interference issues), a custom cable and although I have done a little modding to the case, that Kilmat mod might be worth a shout!
I... I can't believe it. Hipyo, your videos have convinced me to build my own keyboard. I've just finished purchasing the board, switches, and caps from links you've in your videos. 6 months ago I couldn't imagine myself actually being excited about purchasing a keyboard but... congrats! You did it! So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the information you provide us and thank you for all the resources you provide in your videos. Also, before anyone asks, yes I subscribed. Have a great day and an even better new year!
I've modded 4 of these now. All the wireless versions. This board is honestly great when modded. Dampened, tape modded, lubed, and stabilizers clipped and tuned. Its great, gave a pair of them away as gifts and I now have offers from other friends to mod their boards lol. The rk reds respond pretty well to lube (though I changed the springs on all the rk switches I've lubed to stock Gateron brown springs I have leftover) and the stabilizers are smoother than you expect.
So nice to see you cover RK boards! I have an RK96 and my partner an RK100 (RK is one of the few brands available in Argentina). Definitely not the best of the best, but all things considered they're amazing mechanical keyboards for the price, especially being hot swap. The stock keycaps aren't great but RK also offers custom keycap sets which improve a lot the experience as they sound a lot better without even having to open up the board.
I have a stock rk61 for past 6 months and ive always thought it sounded really good since I come from using a laptop keyboard, so i don't know much about keyboards. But when I heard the sound at the very end of the video ky jaw dropped, i didnt know it can sound that much better than what I already have which is already amazing for me
So happy you reviewed Royal Klugde! Bought the RK100 several months ago, I wanted the F row along with the numpad, and so far I'm enjoying it. I frakenstiened and lubed the switches that came with the keyboard while waiting for the Akko Star Fish to come in. The sound drastically improved after working on the switches, modding the stabilizers, placing foam (my keboard didn't come with any foam), and tape modding the pcb. It's not 100% thocc but I'm happy with it for right now. It's Bluetooth/Wireless, it comes with a dongle and you can hard wire it into your computer. The battery life is meh, not bad but not good when not hardwired in. The only issues I run it is the battery life and when switching keycaps as the second ATL, FN, CTRL keys are 1u, the second Shift is 2u and the 0 on the numpad is 1u. Not that big of an issue but it does hinder the search for 100 keycap sets that fit the RK100
My first keyboard that I purchased to mod was a cheap RK from Amazon and it was an excellent deal to try out modding and I loved it ... until I modded a slightly better keyboard...and now I know it's not the best. However, it was still the best way for me to learn about keyboard modding, leaves a lot of room for mistakes. :)
I have modded this keyboard and it's been my daily driver for a year now. Also, you get me hooked on modding, i had this board before knowing about modding xD G pro yellow switches, pudding PBT keycaps, some lube, bandit mod for stabs, foam, tape mod and so on. This sounds and feels really good and this is one budget 60% boards with a Iso-De layout which I need. Not many budget-modding-friendly boards are available with this layout. So for someone looking for a budget board and want to start modding, this is highly recommended.
RKs are actually overall pretty great for beginners. They're cheap, as you said, and they sound really good once you've modded. Would I recommend someone who just wants a keyboard to immediately type on? No. But would I recommend it to someone who wants to start modding or knows the rough idea of what they want their end game to sound like? Yes! It helps you get more comfortable with both the basic idea AND some of the skills needed. So yeah, RKs are pretty great that way. Thanks for the video. :D Side note: Boards that came out in 2022 seem to all have the foam installed by default. Mine, bought in 2021, did not. Sadge.
my rk98 has a silicone pad between the metal plate and pcb and has a foam on the bottom. it sounds great even on abs keycaps. the stabilizers are also factory lubed
I bought my rk61 about a week ago after watching this video and assumed it had the foam. I went to mod it today and it did not have the foam lol no big deal since I had some foam laying around I used just weird how they randomly put it in. Maybe if they run out in the factory they just don't use it?

I’ve only been able to make one custom keyboard and that was the rk61. With milky yellows (lubed) and stock stabilizers, it came out to 90 bucks, and it sounds and feels AMAZING
Thanks for making this. I bought the RK84 last year since I could use it out of the box but haven't had the chance to upgrade it. I was actually looking into the switches / keycaps that you used, so this is really helpful! :)
I have multiple RK96 boards I’ve made real nice. I took one to work with me. It’s a conversation starter if nothing else. I threw in milky yellows, stabs I had laying around, foam and PBT caps. These boards are a great budget canvas to mod
I’ve got an RK68 that I love typing on. New switches, caps, and a bunch of case foam and adding plate foam and it sounds brilliant personally. All the hollowness is gone.
Great timing. I just got done with my own RK61, which I built so I could type quietly later into the night without being a nuisance to my family, I used the same stabs, foam lined it , soldered in lubed gateron milky pro yellow v2 switches etc. For how little I spent on it, I love the sound.
This is the comment I was looking for 👍. I assumed by the great result of Hipyo's mod that it would be quiet enough for late night work. Just got mine a few days ago and it will be my first mod.
im from the UK so I've used ISO my whole life but since getting into the keeb hobby I've learned to live with ANSI as there are way more options especially with PCBs there are however quite a few kits that include ISO enter etc.
@@AnbuReckz also someone that grew up using ISO but this summer I started using ANSI boards and now I'm pretty comfortable with both layouts, it just takes some time to get used to
I just got into this hobby and my first mod is the RK68… I have the milk and honey key caps on it and the RGB actually doesn’t look bad! I put Akko jelly black switches and filmed those… it sounds so amazing and it’s soothing to type on 🎉
Even the most polished gem began life as a lump in the ground. Cheap doesn't always mean bad. Sometimes it just means there wasn't the appropriate amount of effort invested. This is an excellent example of what a little effort can do, and how even a modest effort can surprise you.
It wasn't a "little" effort tho, more than half of component was replaced, with what, essentially, makes its sound good-swithes and keycaps, and it costed more than keyboard itself.
Boards like these are probably made to help get people with more time than money into the mechanical keyboard hobby. If you want something really cheap and inexpensive to mod the crap out of, boards like these are good options. If you have more money than time and you want something amazing out of the box, 100% go with something else.
The RK61 is actually a very solid starter keyboard for modding. It’s cheap, great case for the price, and it’s very easy to mod making it beginner friendly. I have a modded RK84 with Akko Carolina blue keycaps, tape modded, replaced the switches with hand lubed ktt kang whites, and lubed the stock stabs (stock stabs are very good on the rk84) and it’s very creamy. The RK line of keyboards are all similar in design, except for the form factor. I really do recommend buying one of these (MAKE SURE YOU MOD IT OTHERWISE IT’S BAD).
I recently bought the rk98 for 55usd. mann!! this keyboard is a money steal. It has wireless 2.4Ghz, bluetooth, two usb port on the top, hot-swappable, fully adjustable rgb with software and finally it has a silicone pad between metal plate and pcb and a foam on the bottom. also the stabilizers are factory lubed. the sounds feel amazing even though it has abs keycaps
I actually got this keyboard for my first attempt at modding! It's not the best out there, but for a beginner it was a really easy way to get into the hobby. I enjoyed modding it and now plan to invest into better options!
NIce hair! It's funny because that was my first "moddable" keyboard, and I ended up doing pretty much what you did to it a few weeks ago. Sent it to my daughter as a Xmas present, hope she ends up liking it :)
I have this same keyboard but the version with bluetooth and it has a battery in it. Since I can't do the kilmat with this nor tape the PCB I taped the plastic case and covered every single bit of plastic (but around the battery cause safety) and it worked really well! My milky yellows and milk and honey caps come in on Sat and I am SOOO excited!! But already I hear a difference in just taping the HECK out of the inside of the case. :)
I've actually had a lot of success buying RK keyboards and modding them into something that is pretty good for cheap. I actually enjoy doing it for the challenge (sorta like sleeper PCs or cars).
Always so excited when a new video drops! You’re definitely my comfort channel. Also, I’m sure you’ve already seen it around, but you should do a review of the Nuphy Air! Seems like a good budget option and I’d love to see it what it takes to doctor it up! Much love.
Just modded my rk 68 (855). Still using stock blue switches. Just added new key caps & o rings (yes Ik o rings are controversial but I literally just use this keyboard for my PS5). Even fresh out the box, it is a great keyboard. Rgb can be better and is better if you get different key caps (that happened in my case) & o rings get rid of a majority of that hollowness sound without taking the entire thing apart
I have the wireless version of this board, black with yellow/orange led's. I love it. I have modded it pretty extensively. I have a case I designed on fusion 360 and had 3d printed. It sits neatly over my laptop's keyboard with no interference. Its a great entry modding board. Durock stabs make a huge difference. The stock stabs wouldn't fit snug in the case so the upgrade made a huge difference. I just went back to the stock switches and with a heavy lube, the brown switches are actually surprisingly good.
Been daily driving an rk61 for 2 months now. Blue switchers. I code so its loud asf and gets beat on relentlessly. Best keyboard ive ever used. If you are getting into mechanical keyboards its the best bang for the buck hands down. Better than any razor mini mech ive ever tried and half the price. Not every keyboard is a "gaming" keyboard either. Some of us just love the style and extra space but whatever lol
I started my keyboard modding journey also with this keyboard. Granted, the version I was using is soldered PCB and wireless. I also put an automotive sound dampener to it about 2-3 years ago, and it does elevate the keyboard sound, miles better than the stock pre-built keyboards from big brands even today. The keyboard was cheap, and the opportunity to improve it is BIG. It even comes with its satisfaction 😊 it helps me learn how to solder/desolder switches, lube switches and tune stabilizer, a skill I still use today when building custom keyboard. I say just try it, and as such pretty recommended.
I got the RK84 instead of RK61 and I actually mod the keyboard from one of your youtube video using foam paper, change and lube the stabilizers, lube the original switches and got myself a mario theme key caps. Really happy with how it turns out as that was my very first keyboard mod.
The rk68 comes as a kit for around the same price, it's wireless, has a dongle and is an easy choice for budget modding. Plus there are foams that you can find on the internet for cheap.
I litreally bought EPOOMAKER SK61 as my first board ,very similar to this one. Spent 3-4 hours lubbing and I thought omg.. that was lowkey worth it. I might swap the stabs and definitely swapping the keycaps but I'm satisfied with the sound NOW. Only spent 25$ on modding materials. I did the tape mod and foam mod.
I bought one of these about 8 months ago but in black for about 80 dollars and it held up very well I have put atleast 10 hours a day on it since then as a daily and it has a great build quality, I bought some lube for the switches and have used it 1 time to lube my switches, doesn't sound hollow, no ping, but my switches are starting to give out on me understandably. I found this to be a great keyboard for a daily keyboard and I have a razer black widow for when I need the extra numpad keys and it suits me very well this keyboard is great.
this is honestly a gateway keyboard for people starting out and imo i think it's one of the cheapest entry boards out there. me and two of my friends got into custom keyboards and we all bought the rk84-- and that was before RK decided they'd put in plate foam in some of their hotswap boards. my friends and i had to look for foam to put in our boards ourselves (which we would have done anyways since there's no case foam) i got an ikki68 lying around waiting for keycaps rn and my daily driver is my tm680 and my modded rk84 is just sitting on my wall. can't really get rid of it, it's just so special. and it sounds good. i still love it to bits.
AAAAHH YESS. So glad you did this one. Rewatching your womier vids as my k87 comes today and tbh, the keyboard has become my most exciting part of the whole pc build 🤣
this was the first keyboard i got. modded it with more foam, milky yellows and clear black keycaps absolutely love what ive done to it. a very satisfying and cheap build.
I just picked up the RK71 along with some Haimu Whisper Silent Tactile Switches and some custom keycaps and stabilizers from Drop. Can't wait to get it all put together.
I have modded my rk61 a fair amount, threw some browns on there and slapped some osume keycaps on it, and it's one of my favorite boards for writing scripts with its soft punchy sound. Not my fanciest board but I'd def recommend
I have the bluetooth aluminium version of the RK61 with milky yellows + Akko PBT keycaps and it sounds so much better than even the modded one in your video!
As a french guy i quickly found that to mod some cheap hotswap keyboard is the only way for me to have an ISO-FR AZERTY layout for my keyboards, by the way if you can make a video on that subject that would be really awesome ^^
I have this same keyboard in the 96% layout, and honestly a new set of keycaps and some dampener O-rings under them went a long way. For a pretty cheap (mine was around $75 iirc) keyboard with two day shipping, it's really not bad. I'm going to try different switches at some point but for now I like it well enough. Also, their software slaps very hard for a cheap keyboard - a hard requirement for me was being able to remap keys easily and this was literally the only keyboard in this price range with this layout that could do it.
I have also purchased this keyboard. I was looking for a good but at the same time not too expensive (budget) small and clean mechanical keyboard and came across the RK61 on Amazon. I have to say that I'm very satisfied with it so far. The price-performance-ratio is very good. I bought the keyboard recently and by now it is as well wireless usable and the additional functions are visible on the sides of the keycaps and not on top, which really improves it a lot visually. The lighting functions are really well customizable in the downloadable software from RK. Also, the switches are hotswappable and the keyboard is pretty well insulated. There's no rattling noticable at all while playing in my opinion. The only drawback I have is that the lighting intensity is a little weak compared to other mouse and keyboards, but not too bad (I have the black version). All in all, a really top *budget* keyboard. I highly recommend it ! :)
I just picked up the RK61 and having come from using a Red Dragon Kumara K551, the RK61 is pleasantly quieter. I had some sound deadening foam leftover from installing a speaker in my car and while I had to trim it to be thinner in order for everything to screw back together, the mod really dampened the intensity while thickening the sound. Almost like a different keyboard altogether!
This was my first mechanical keyboard and I got it for $35 on an Amazon flash sale. If it wasn’t for RK, I would’ve never gotten in the hobby and I can’t recommend the RK68 Plus enough. I still use mine when I travel.
Thanks for 550k

@@DapperMKVI I just finished my RK68 and I love it. If you haven't tried poured silicone you should definitely check it out.
@@starelikeajunkie I’d love to try silicone. For my RK68 I had a bunch of adhesive backed neoprene sheet that has done wonders for the sound of it.
Ooh nice hair, Hipyo Tech! Very good hair! Thank you for growing it out for me!
'Woo! Nice hair, Hipyo Tech! Very good hair! Thank you for growing it out for me.'
I love those keycaps, just wish someone did ones like that in an ISO layout
mhm!
im from the UK so I've used ISO my whole life but since getting into the keeb hobby I've learned to live with ANSI as there are way more options especially with PCBs there are however quite a few kits that include ISO enter etc.
@@AnbuReckz also someone that grew up using ISO but this summer I started using ANSI boards and now I'm pretty comfortable with both layouts, it just takes some time to get used to
Same, I have realised how much better ansi loooks tho
@@bear_the_pear1963 am I crazy to say I like the look of hhkb 😅
Ooh nice hair hipyo tech. Thank you for growing it out for me
Ooh nice hair hipyo tech, very good hair, thank you for growing it out for me.
The RK boards. Great coverage! There are so many of these out there!
I really do recommend buying one of these (MAKE SURE YOU MOD IT OTHERWISE IT’S BAD).
that sounded so good for the price
I recently bought the rk98 for 55usd. mann!! this keyboard is a money steal. It has wireless 2.4Ghz, bluetooth, two usb port on the top, hot-swappable, fully adjustable rgb with software and finally it has a silicone pad between metal plate and pcb and a foam on the bottom. also the stabilizers are factory lubed. the sounds feel amazing even though it has abs keycaps
Oh nice hair Hipyo Tech, very good hair, thank you for growing it out for me!
Finally ive been waiting so long for this Video
RK boards are amazing, for one reason the removable frames. It is a life saver for those with skin issues, so much easier to clean.
I actually got this keyboard for my first attempt at modding! It's not the best out there, but for a beginner it was a really easy way to get into the hobby. I enjoyed modding it and now plan to invest into better options!
Congratulations with 550K! You deserve it!
Love my Rk 68, it’s my first mechanical keyboard I’ve ever bought, and got the brown key. So smooth, highly recommend!
Should have gone with the RK61 PRO which now has a aluminum casing! also i love you :D
ooo nice hair hipyo tech, very good hair thank you for growing it out for me
nice hair hipyo, i might do the same mod to my rk61 👍
Always so excited when a new video drops! You’re definitely my comfort channel. Also, I’m sure you’ve already seen it around, but you should do a review of the Nuphy Air! Seems like a good budget option and I’d love to see it what it takes to doctor it up! Much love.
Just modded my rk 68 (855). Still using stock blue switches. Just added new key caps & o rings (yes Ik o rings are controversial but I literally just use this keyboard for my PS5). Even fresh out the box, it is a great keyboard. Rgb can be better and is better if you get different key caps (that happened in my case) & o rings get rid of a majority of that hollowness sound without taking the entire thing apart
ohh nice hair hipyo tech very good hair thank you for growing it out for me!
Ooh nice Hair Hipyo Tech! very good Hair Hipyo Tech ! Thanks for growing it out for me!
I've upgraded my RK71 on Thursday with Lavender Purples and some PBT XDA keycaps and I am supper happy with the build of my first mechanical keyboard!
Nice to see that in modern day basically all of the problems on the rk61 have been fixed. So now it's much more worth it.
The longer I watched this video the more I want the keyboard, you convinced me I'm going to buy it right now.
honestly I kinda liked how plasticy and horrible it sounded at first!! it sounded nostalgic, like the keyboard my nan used to type on!
I did the tape mod and foam mod.
this is awesome!! getting my first keyboard ever soon (rk84) and will be modding it like this (hopefully) thanks hipyo!
Ooh! Nice hair, Hipyo Tech! Thank you for growing it out for me!
oh nice hair Hipyo Tech thank you for growing it out for me
this is honestly a gateway keyboard for people starting out and imo i think it's one of the cheapest entry boards out there. me and two of my friends got into custom keyboards and we all bought the rk84-- and that was before RK decided they'd put in plate foam in some of their hotswap boards. my friends and i had to look for foam to put in our boards ourselves (which we would have done anyways since there's no case foam)
i got an ikki68 lying around waiting for keycaps rn and my daily driver is my tm680 and my modded rk84 is just sitting on my wall. can't really get rid of it, it's just so special. and it sounds good. i still love it to bits.
AAAAHH YESS. So glad you did this one. Rewatching your womier vids as my k87 comes today and tbh, the keyboard has become my most exciting part of the whole pc build 🤣
I literally buy this board just to mod it. It’s my favorite for the price. I’ve bought a few. Can’t go wrong as a beginner modder. I love it.
this was the first keyboard i got. modded it with more foam, milky yellows and clear black keycaps absolutely love what ive done to it. a very satisfying and cheap build.
oooo! Nice hair Hipyo Tech! Very good hair! Thank you for growing it out for me!
Ooo nice hair Hipyo Tech, very good hair, thank you for growing it out for me.
Ooo, nice hair HipyoTech. Very good hair. Thank you for growing it out for me!
woooh! Nice hair, Hipyo Tech! Very good hair! Thank you for growing it out for me. Go ahead.
I just picked up the RK71 along with some Haimu Whisper Silent Tactile Switches and some custom keycaps and stabilizers from Drop. Can't wait to get it all put together.
ooh nice hair hipyo tech very good hair thank you for growing it for me.
People buy it because it's cheap and white and RGB. They buy it with white Hyper X puddings. It's a cool look, tbh.
Huh, I actually didn’t know theftking is into keyboards
3:54 doshigatai (度し難い)!
I have the old non hot swappable wireless RK61. I spray lubed, tape modded, o-ring modded, and kilmatted it. I love it now!
WoO nice hair hipyo tech, thank you for growing it out for me!
About 6 months ago I modded my board (rk61 with browns) to lubed milky yellows and new stabs plus a new set of keycaps and it sounds great
I have modded my rk61 a fair amount, threw some browns on there and slapped some osume keycaps on it, and it's one of my favorite boards for writing scripts with its soft punchy sound. Not my fanciest board but I'd def recommend
I have the bluetooth aluminium version of the RK61 with milky yellows + Akko PBT keycaps and it sounds so much better than even the modded one in your video!
Oooo, Nice hair Hipyo Tech. very good hair. Thankyou for growing it out for me!
No doubt you'll hit 1 million subs by the end of 2023 brother. Thanks for the great, consistent content 🤙
Amazon's choice isn't just Amazon's choice. It's Amazon's choice for you. Based on previous purchases, searches, personal information, and meta data.
Hipyo your my favorite youtuber
As a french guy i quickly found that to mod some cheap hotswap keyboard is the only way for me to have an ISO-FR AZERTY layout for my keyboards, by the way if you can make a video on that subject that would be really awesome ^^
Thank you so much for making the video! I just bought the 65% version and wanted to get into keyboards mods but wasn't really sure what to do
I have this same keyboard in the 96% layout, and honestly a new set of keycaps and some dampener O-rings under them went a long way. For a pretty cheap (mine was around $75 iirc) keyboard with two day shipping, it's really not bad. I'm going to try different switches at some point but for now I like it well enough. Also, their software slaps very hard for a cheap keyboard - a hard requirement for me was being able to remap keys easily and this was literally the only keyboard in this price range with this layout that could do it.
this keeb is the reason why i'm in this rabbit hole of a hobby
RGB, Hotswap, end result sounded nice.
I like both sounds tbh . The before and after
I bought my rk84 and its a very beginner friendly keyboard. Ive only done a few mods on it but i love it!
Clicky is the best part common
Very satisfying
Keep up the good work hippy I’m getting some tangerines soon for my first custom idk why u need to know😊
Yooooooo another hipyo vedio let’s gooooooo
Pogers
This was my first mechanical keyboard and I got it for $35 on an Amazon flash sale. If it wasn’t for RK, I would’ve never gotten in the hobby and I can’t recommend the RK68 Plus enough. I still use mine when I travel.
