I started my way into this Hobby within the last month and I'm into it for about $1,500. This is a very expensive, and addicting Hobby. I need to slow down or I'll bankrupt myself buying trains! Ha! Thanks for your videos.
Ha, No kidding. Worse than heroin. Just walk into a hobby shop, and see if u can leave without a new S D 40-2.! At least it won't get us arrested .. good luck brother.
For those who are complaining about the sound coming from the phone and not the loco. Install a bluetooth speaker in the loco or in a sound car next to it. I like the ease and flexibility and layout. Using your phone as the controller is next gen.
Like flying cars or teleportation.... I am a programmer but to be honest imho pro applications are never run from a mobile device, the desktop versions are always superior and electronics customized for hobbyist are hard to beat, like RC cars, drones and nowadays pro toys
as is direct radio with Rail Pro, but yeah now Imagine not only HO trains doing christmas music but O trains as well, with G scale trains also doing christmas music.
Another great review James. The EZ app is cutting edge technology! Everytime I watch one of your reviews I learn something new! Thanks for all your work!
@@trainmemes9115 What happens if you run several locos in your layout and all of them have this bluetooth system, would they interfere with each others sound signals? Because of bluetooth proximity
While it looks like this has the typical Bachmann tight drive mechanism, the ID of bluetooth control of trains is pretty cool. As a concept though, the bluetooth control of trains is pretty cool. It would simplify so many aspects of the hobby if you could take directly to the equipment, and not need a command station. There is no reason a bluetooth decoder with sound on it could not be developed... and move the sound to the loco\equipment itself. I then all you need is to have track power, and pair your phone to your loco or consist. It's a cool concept.
Merry Christmas, dude. Keep up the good work. I love the Christmas graphics. When do we see a feature of your new layout? You are right about the new apps - it it's important that we get the kids involved or our hobby will fade. Take care.
I think the EZ-app is a great idea but I'm worried there will only be a small selection of locos to choose from. Hopefully they sell well enough to warrant an expansion to more locos such as the Shay, Climax, etc. I'm also hoping for a EZ-app upgrade kit for your existing collection. Thanks.
this is a great review, your right everything is going to the ap way, so us old guys better catch up. lol, was a great video James, we got to see more of your layout, very nice my friend, Merry Christmas sir, and have a great, safe, happy new year
Every steam engine I have is a AT&SF and my coaches are too, I think I’ll just make a Santa Fe layout when I get more into the hobby, would be good for saving my money lol
8:19 I've this same loco..Though the sound on mine is broken, she did have sound..Why does your's not have 'Sound on board' ? Did you buy it with DCC only ? IE. Is it that it has no sound control/speaker in it ? Waz up ?? 11:30 you need to slow down the chuff rate.
I have a question, I just purchased a Broadway Limited Paragon 3 Y6B. I read the manual and it said to add 6 to 8 drops of smoke fluid before first use. I added 6 drops of smoke fluid before I powered it on. The smoke works but instead of coming out of the smokestack, if you are facing it, in front of it, it comes out of the right side, by the front drive wheels. Would you happen to know why this is?
on my DCC layout i have 2 E-Z APP, so when company comes over they can run there own train with there phone .. and don't have to worry if they get scared of DCC controls
James from what I can see this new system has quite a few possibilities as you indicated. I bought one of the power boards that bachmann use in their EZ APP trains from the supplier - Bluerail Trains & connected the board to my track. I have 2 independently powered loops which can inter connect. My layout is DC & in this configuration I can run one loop as standard DC & the other using DC powered trains with the bluetooth board & get all it features on what ever train I uses on that loop. I was looking at going DCC but this technology might be better suited to what I want to do.
I hope not. Bluetooth 4.1 is not the technology you want to use to run a layout with. Ring Engineering makes a wireless decoder that has a lot more promise, but I'd still wait a while before jumping on the bandwagon, as it's proprietary (like the EZ app decoders).
See BlueRailtrains.com who made the EZ app and Blue Tooth receiver for Bachmann sells separate decoders. Right now they are working on full DCC sound decoder integration before any new receivers. Waiting for their smaller receiver/decoder to fit in Bachmann Vanderbilt tender. If I remember correctly they are using Bluetooth 4.1 and have built the receiver to be software upgradeable.
I just bought a bluerail power board yesterday. I have a medium sized layout which is presently DC so I connected the board to the tracks of the layout. Used an old power transformer to power it up & control it off my tablet. I had it hooked up & working within an hour. I get all the Ezy App features & so far all the DC trains I have run on the line (10 at this point) have worked perfectly. Point is you don't have to put a EZ App power board in all your locos to get the benefit of the system. I was considering converting to DCC but I'm now convinced this is the way to go.

Another option is to use ear phones from your mobile device.

Hi James, I also like the sound from the trains too,it sounds much better, you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
I own that train. It's really cool to see you doing a review on it.
Happy holidays and happy railroading
Anything that brings more people to the hobby benefits every one else
That kinda sucks about the sound only coming from your phone. I rather have the sound coming from the train it's self.
Didnt think of that! gonna add it to the loco and send the sound to speaker
@@trainmemes9115 What happens if you run several locos in your layout and all of them have this bluetooth system, would they interfere with each others sound signals? Because of bluetooth proximity
PFelipeProg they do not interfere.
Great Review, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (AT&SF) - there was a song by that name pre WWII
Man that is cool and I have been into trains for close to 30 years!

So the sounds are coming out of the phone, not a speaker in the locomotive tender?
you should do a review of the Bachmann 2-8-2 Pennsylvania.
merry Christmas James and keep doing videos

well there's time to convert other loco's with the Blue rail board for them to work with the EZ app.

I still prefer the my DCC with sound engines.
Thanks for the info
I started O gauge Blutooth wirless trains last October 2019.
I'll be adding this Bad boy for my train set by summer 🚂🚂🚂🚂👊🏽👊🏽✌🏽✌🏽
Great review awesome Lolo I like the app have a marry Christmas
great review and I gotta get one of these what's the pulling power is it like a standard Bachmann train?
Every steam engine I have is a AT&SF and my coaches are too, I think I’ll just make a Santa Fe layout when I get more into the hobby, would be good for saving my money lol
merry christmas James

Nice layout!
Are you going to do the ACS-64 when they release it?
I just want to know that if other HO engines that are not on tracks do you use a remote? If so , what kind? Happy Holidays!

Is this basically a DCC engine?
great review thanks
i wonder if there will ever be individual ez app decoders...

greenwizard88 it may not be the best for a layout with a ton of trains, but it is perfect for G scale. I will be putting it into my locomotive.

How do u synchronize the chuffing James??
How can you get the sound to come From the engine?
why didnt you get the s6 or s7? its smaller and better than the note, active version a little sturdier
you hear that hum noise when your running slow speed.. you can update that loco to get rid of the noise,,,
also with new update for the loco,, it will run even slower
I have one of these but in a different road name.
Does the sound come from your train or your phone?
from the phone or tablet
What state do you live in
Sounds better then Soundtraxx sound value!
Mine litteraly won't show up
Review Bachman. Ge 45 tonner
