    Great review James, I am torn between the 2-4-4-2 and the 2-6-6-2 though. I like them both and have seen the 2-6-6-2 in action as well!. Open to opinions and reviews on which one to purchase. Thank you, appreciate your time and input.

    I like these more unedited reviews that you are starting to do,, It adds some humor to it, and makes it much more enjoyable to watch, yet you still getting to all the important parts of the review. thanks James. I am not into the On30 stuff. but i watched this video, just for YOUR content

    John here-Well, at 4:23, you can plainly see the engineer's side front set side rod has come loose. I found this review by accident, but I was wondering what the reviewer had to say. The one I purchased 2 years ago had exactly the same problem along with gears that were not properly seated. When first placed on the rails, in moved 1/2 inch and stopped. You could tell something was stuck. Once I removed the bottom cover and wiggled the wheels and gears back into the proper position, it ran. Once repaired, it was fine. My only other complaint was that while supposed to run on regular dc power, I needed to purchase a new Model Rectifier power pack that put out more oomph than the factory supplied power pack. Out of all of my Bachmann locomotives, this one was my first disappointment.

    I have a Bachmann spectrum steam locomotive too. It's a standard gauge 4-4-0. And its lettered and numbered as Seaboard Airline #106. I plan on getting a Bachmann Spectrum On30 4-6-0 lettered and numbered as ET&WNC #12. Tweetsie Railroad in North Carolina has there #12 4-6-0 brought from the ET&WNC Railroad. ET&WNC stands for East Tennessee and West North Carolina. That soot in the box is for weathering your locomotive. My SAL 106 has that too, as well as spare domes, smoke stacks, and boogies for the tender and pilot wheel.

    This beautiful engines is so very good work of art. Id be so scared of all those little parts losing a very important screw and its comes apart. Timing gears and gear ratios kicked my butt. Finally learned it circuits that seemed impossible and was easy from there. Soon found out if your track is nice and straight and level. I built the tables and as smooth and level as I could possibly do.

    This is a nice machine. It's a little hard to tell but I think this is a 4 cylinder simple as opposed to a Mallet. In some shots the front cylinders look slightly larger than the rear but on the other hand both sets of cylinders have slide valves. If she was a Mallet, the rear cylinders would most likely have piston valves. To the best of my knowledge, there were only four 2-4-4-2 Mallet's ever built. Baldwin built three and ALCO built one. There is one Baldwin left in the States at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad but the sole ALCO survived. She was built for the Taupo Totora Timber Company who had a 52 mile private railway between Putararu and Mokai in New Zealand. She came very close to being scrapped but to cut a long story short, she was saved and is now awaiting another overhaul on the Glenbrook Vintage Railway. She looks a lot like this engine but has a much smaller tender.

    You are a role model and I’m glad I found your videos and channel. Not many people can explain so clearly like you do and have the talent you have. If you allow me to ask you a question I would like to know if the Bachman Wonderland Express 20051 is similar in size to the train you are reviewing or if it is a bit smaller in size because it is a narrow gauge. Not sure if you have a video comparing standard O and narrow gauge O scale running on HO tracks. It will be great if you help me with this. Once again thank you so much for your help. love the product but I usually deal with N gauge. Loved everything but the whistle. That whistle needs some work. I wonder if Bachman can improve the whistle. Great review. If the MSRP is $500+ then the whistle could be improved.

    I don't mean to be that guy... I watch every video that comes out and love them. But lately it's been very noticeable when a coupler is either high or low but then it's still considered dead on. I know some reviewers that even when it looks level it's still high or low too. Not trying to be rude by any means it's just something to watch for :-)

    • @jlwii2000
      @jlwii2000  7 років тому +3

      This is because my commentary is not at eye level when the camera is there. That's why I still show the coupler so you can make your own determination. What I say and what you see can be two different things from two different angles. Thanks for the input though, I'll try to improve!

    I know it's pretty much a fantasy engine, but I wonder if that boiler would be substantial enough for four cylinders? seems a little on the small side but I'm by no means an expert on steam locomotives.

    • @shayengineer10
      @shayengineer10 7 років тому +2

      If you read up on them, you'll find out that there actually are articulateds that small in boiler size, with 4 cylinders. One of the most famous, is the Little River mallet. Also, that is a mallet. The steam enters the rear cylinders and after it's used, instead of going directly to the smoke stack....it is used to power the front cylinders before exiting the loco.

    Bachmann Junk. I have been through 3 of these. First one spit drivers off, second one would not move and the third one screams of stripped gears. Very unhappy with the latest of products from them. Have shays with gears stripped and same with a Climax.

  • @genehall8895
    @genehall8895 6 років тому +1

    I'll admit my ignorance. Lol. I've been collecting model trains since I was 7 years old, well that is now over 40 years of collecting. G O gauge HO, N, Z . I probably have 4000 plus locomotives most are new in the box. Estimate I have close to 12,000 units of rolling stock. And just tons and tons of track turnouts buildings. Industrial complexes. Later couplers for every single one. The list goes on and on ,and with all that. I do not have a layout. . My question is two fold. Where is the best retailers for me to buy 2 rail O scale steam locomotives ? And I'm ashamed to say that I have absolutely no idea what This On3 or HOn3 scale is. Could you please explain it to me. Thanks GAH II

    • @officialpennsyjoe
      @officialpennsyjoe 6 років тому +1

      Gene Hall On30 stands for O-scale Narrow gauge 30". 30" represent the scale it is based off of the rail width from the other parallel rail. Basically On30 trains are narrow gauge O-scale trains that run on HO-scale (Half O) tracks.
