The first of your "honorable mentions" (David Oistrakh), should be on spot 2 of your favorites list. On No. 1: Ginette Neveu (the live concert with Isserstedt).
I don't understand why so many people like Heifetz in general. I can't stand listening to his performances. Rarely do I find his interpretations something I would want to imitate.

Interesting, I liked Hahn's rendition and Julia Fischer and Milstein and some of Handelich. However, they all more or less sound exactly the same. Hahn's and Fischer are kind of the right emotion for me and Milstein along with Garrett have a certain quality of authenticity in and of themselves and Handelich added a nuance I never heard before and it was interesting.
Indeed!!! She is the big one missing in this presentation. Best rendition of the Brahms violin concerto ever: Ginette Neveu under Isserstedt. Neveu really had everything.
Milstein and Fischer are at the top. 3rd place is hard to determine but I grew up listening to Perlman playing this, so I'll say I like him for 3rd place.
According to me (but certainly not only me), the *greatest* rendition of this concerto was by Ginette Neveu in 1948 with Isserstedt as conductor. So, a comparison without including that (even if there is no visual material to show), is imho not at all complete.
Not a fan usually of Milstein's Brahms, but the entrance sure is epic, doesn't stop and goes straight to the high c from the beginning. True fire. A lot of these are very good on the technical side but lack fire, Oistrakh as well I might say
These are all at an extremely high level. Artistically I gravitate toward Hahn 2021. But I have to agree with some others here - Milstein just stands out. That drive! That huge line! It's almost a different dimension of playing, at least in this short selection.
The ultimate horror of this opening is seen clearly in Heifetz' version. It 's like someone is hesitant to jump into the darkness and finally when he has no choice he just let it go.
Interesting to listen,it would be better to let hear more, with the strings crossing ,is more singing and not only technical..as just this introduction..
Спасибо за интересное сравнение. На мой взгляд Натан Мильштейн интеллектуально всех переиграл (как всегда). Thank you for the interesting comparison. To my mind, Natan Milshtein overplayed intellectually everybody ( as always)
Super collation of many fine performances. Jansens’ powerful “bow - forward” entrance is incomparable. However for my money it’s worth adding the full 2021 Vengerov video entrance ua-cam.com/video/9L6a-JJCCzw/v-deo.html (around 3:30) as the standard setting performance matching passion with technical prowess.
This should be comparison of them all after Heifetz who is by himself above all of them and that they all would acknowledge this fact without question if asked and many have said it on the record.
I feel like I am not sophisticated enough to appreciate or even notice the different phrasing but I really feel like I liked Oistrakh the most. Sadly, I feel like the recording quality of the Jansen version biased me against her. Not her playing but the sound quality of that recording was not as good as the rest so hard to tell.
This is really fantastic. In so many recordings you don't hear after the first entrance the doublestops are not projected going to the accented top octave. Heifetzdoesnt do it slowenoughyet i prefer him yo many others in the rest of the concerto,Milstein does it shortstaccato.Hilary improves in 2021 even moreso.JoshuaBell?Vengerov plays entire concerto differently everytime I hear him.thatgreatoldJewishwoman was one of the best. GinetteNeveu too made a great recording Zimbalist is passable no great insight,Elman,Szigeti,Szeryng very smart.Kreislers recordingdoesnt say much to me. Toscanini with crazy Italian woman is not good though she recorded better later.Perlmans is one of the best!

Hahn's and Fischer are kind of the right emotion for me and Milstein along with Garrett have a certain quality of authenticity in and of themselves and Handelich added a nuance I never heard before and it was interesting.
What about Ginette Neveu?? She made the ultimate recording of this Concerto.
Indeed!!! She is the big one missing in this presentation. Best rendition of the Brahms violin concerto ever: Ginette Neveu under Isserstedt. Neveu really had everything.
Without Christian Ferras, such a comparison panel looks missing one of the most important.
Milstein and Fischer are at the top. 3rd place is hard to determine but I grew up listening to Perlman playing this, so I'll say I like him for 3rd place.
Love this video, hearing them all back to back really puts emphasis on their individuality, great concept
Janine, maxim and Milstein have a a incredibly naturalness when they are playing. I love it! My favorites!!
Where was Isaac Stern
Very interesting to notice Dounis technique on many of them 😊
I think Julia Fischer really nailed the recitative-like character of this opening.
No Ivry Gitlis? No Zino Francescatti? Why?
According to me (but certainly not only me), the *greatest* rendition of this concerto was by Ginette Neveu in 1948 with Isserstedt as conductor. So, a comparison without including that (even if there is no visual material to show), is imho not at all complete.
Pretty cool hearing all this top level artists side by side, Lisa Batiashvili is my favorite Brahms, sadly the video is no longer on YT
Not a fan usually of Milstein's Brahms, but the entrance sure is epic, doesn't stop and goes straight to the high c from the beginning. True fire. A lot of these are very good on the technical side but lack fire, Oistrakh as well I might say
Make same video on sibelius please! !!
These are all at an extremely high level. Artistically I gravitate toward Hahn 2021. But I have to agree with some others here - Milstein just stands out. That drive! That huge line! It's almost a different dimension of playing, at least in this short selection.
Shojis interpretation isnt getting the love i think it deserves
Her full concerto, I like it. ua-cam.com/video/wbHUG6utqhs/v-deo.html
For me Nigel Kennedy (absent in this film) has the best emotional and dramatic entrance 😍😍😍
Heifetz toujours inégalé. L’humble et glorieux respect de la partition. Brahms revit.
Éxtasis!!! Thank you!!!
Конечно интересно послушать Что тебе ближе Но говорить кто лучше или хуже абсурд, тем более сравнения Титанов с Коллосами
Super collation of many fine performances. Jansens’ powerful “bow - forward” entrance is incomparable. However for my money it’s worth adding the full 2021 Vengerov video entrance ua-cam.com/video/9L6a-JJCCzw/v-deo.html (around 3:30) as the standard setting performance matching passion with technical prowess.
where is Kyung Wha Chung??
Where's Nigel Kennedy???
By the way, Josef Gingold isn't there.
Where is Szeryng ? And Grumiaux?!!
Where is Henryk Szeryng ?
Why oh why haven't you included the great Ida Haendel!

Concerto pour violon de Brahms :
Violon : Yehudi Menuhin
Direction : Kurt Masur
Leipzig 1982
This should be comparison of them all after Heifetz who is by himself above all of them and that they all would acknowledge this fact without question if asked and many have said it on the record.
Hilary Hahn, is the best. 🙌🙂↔️
I miss Francescatti, Krebbers, Grumiaux, Ferras and Szeryng!
1 Menuhin & Milstein
2 Heifetz
2 Perlman
3 Hadelich
4 Jansen
5 Vengerov
I agree. The Szeryng / Monteux Recording is unrivalled imho.
I agree with this list except Heifetz. He was at the bottom of the list for me....of them all.
Pelman play with heart 👍🏼🇲🇽
Look at henryk szeryngs performance, I think it’s one of the best
Jansen is so aggressive, in the best way
Vengerov is so good he can play without moving ❤️❤️❤️
Zimmermann and Milstein suprised me, very good.
Kyung Wha Chung+1❤❤
I feel like I am not sophisticated enough to appreciate or even notice the different phrasing but I really feel like I liked Oistrakh the most. Sadly, I feel like the recording quality of the Jansen version biased me against her. Not her playing but the sound quality of that recording was not as good as the rest so hard to tell.
Uto Ughi?
Milstein, Vengerow and Oistrakh top 3
I personally love Jansen's version the most🔥🔥
Perlman... ❤
closed eyes...
I find him cold and steely in tone. Maybe the recording
