Hey David, Jeff's mentality of putting actual knowledge ahead of a degree is pretty awesome. I was just hired by Cisco a month ago with only certifications, learned from your videos. Self education is very powerful and Cisco knows it.
Nice job! I am supposed to graduate next year with an undergrad in Computer Science. Do you mind sharing what types of certifications you obtained? Even with a CS degree, I feel like I'll need more than that if I want to break into Networking or Cyber Security.
I’m really digging these interviews, David. A lot of great stuff here and I’m happy to know that I’m not the only Poli Sci major at Cisco. One thing I would add is to be mindful of your facial expressions while doing remote interviews with video calls. I’ve interviewed people who wore chucks, jeans, a t-shirt. There’s no concern with that from myself. I’ve recommended people who did terribly in the interview based on tangible items (did they get the question right or not); however, they carried themselves well and maintained a positive attitude while displaying an ability to learn quickly.
Thank you David i have a dream to get a job in Cisco and possibly i am going to apply on Cisco in couple of months. This video really going to help me alot. Thank you once again i hope i will meet you in real in future.
As i am pursuing graduation which is non technical. By seeing this video, it made me clear that, there is no mandatory required technical graduation for networking job Or other IT helpdesk. You just need valuable knowledge and certification. Thank you @David for this video, it really motivates me for moving ahead in networking field.
Great video! Working at Cisco is the best thing in the world! I got in by doing a whole year of internship in their CX Academy and getting 3 certifications, (CCNA Data Center, R&S and CCNP R&S) also I worked as a TAC engineer in the Data Center Switching team, and I'm about to end the internship in 2 months (I started August last year) and they offer me already a full time job as an NCE (Network Consulting Engineer) for Data Center in SAN/UCS, if anyone is reading and it's about to finish college or just finished it, try to land an internship in Cisco, they'll give you everything to make you the best and probably give you a full time job just like me. BTW Cisco is my first job, I literally started in the internship the last semester of my colleague degree, so I really encourage everyone to try to land an internship in Cisco, it'll open you all the gates.
Hey Eduardo, how did you apply for the internship and what location was it... looking for such opportunity but couldn't find any on Cisco Jobs site. Would appreciate a reply. Thanks
I got job interview from Cisco for customer service representative and it was online interview for home work job, and they are sending me a check that I deposit ASAP. Would it be scammed or legit. That email was sent from hr department from Cisco
Hey I posted my resume online and they email me for interview for customer service representation and they would pay me 28 hr and it’s a work home job and they told they would send me a check that I had to deposit. I had a hangout interview. Would it be scammed??
@@rabinapoudel7693 Hangouts does seem a bit sketch - you should email a recruiter and confirm that they are doing interviews through Hangouts and that the person who contacted you for that is an employee of Cisico
Thnanks David B, Recently sent my resume to Cisco , But this tips are important to prepair if they call to me . Do you have any trainnig for the CCNP Service Provider , Guy?
Question now if you don't have a degree and and you have certs without any exp can you get a job in networking? As long as you know your stuff? And if you have experience and certs of course you should be able to get a job.
Most in my career I accepted new challenging job . Which even the Employers did know nothing. Within very short time they understood my Adaptability with new job. Then my CV/Resume became not that much Important and relevant . Resume and Interview is tiny and Joking when hiring a right Candidate.
Sir, I've around 6 years of experience in Desktop support. But dicey about the Networking field as they are considering me as a fresher. So, should I go for the fresher profile as a Network engineer or not. In fact not getting proper opening regarding network engineer as the company required similar field experience for the same.
Hello David. Many thanks for your contribution I left my country in Africa one year ago. Today I joined Cisco dreaming company. I am Very humble for your course, videos and advices. we are so lucky for everything you brought on table. WeareCisco.
I don't have a school degree and a college degree but I have cisco and microsoft vendor certifications also with few network vendor certificates. Can I apply at cisco for a job.
Hi thanks for this advices I'm 18 and I want to be a network engineer. I'm studying for the CCNA R&S, I just have a question (I came from Italy and in my country is a little bit different from USA) if I am Cisco certified can I consider myself a network engi? Thanks a lot for those tips 😁
Great video David. Do you teach on CBT Nuggets or alternative platforms? I work for Cisco but as a red badge employee in management. But I have an interest to get my CCNA and looking for the best way possible, online.

"good communication skills" Welp, time to give up on being on engineer or basically having any job. Looks like I'm going to work at a factory sweatshop on the conveyor with my lpic and ccna.
Hi David i am from Afghanistan and i'm a drop out school and now i am a CCNA certified and half way to getting my CCNP my question is should i be worried for not having any kinda degree or is it still a hope for getting a job just with certs???
I think this will depend on the company, the role and the country. In some countries like the USA, they will require a degree for some roles, but this is changing: www.cnbc.com/2018/08/16/15-companies-that-no-longer-require-employees-to-have-a-college-degree.html - in other parts of the world a certification like CCIE would be much more important for some roles than a degree. I suggest you do some market research by looking at job sites in the specific country you are applying and seeing what potential employers are looking for. The answer as always is it depends. I think certifications are very valuable.
You are in the hardest spot. Getting the first job. You can't get a job without experience and you can't get experience without a job. It wasn't easy for me and it's not for a lot of people. For those in colleges and universities, there are often opportunities, such as work on the university network or internships. Sometimes you have to take a job in a related field, like desktop support, just to get into IT. Then you can make friends with the network people and try to work your way in. Remember that the first few jobs often aren't the best, but you are working your way up. Best of luck.
you need some luck and probably wont get such a hot gig, i started my first networking job (noc tech) two months ago and am getting paid 15 an hour, but hey I have no experience and only a CCNA, cant expect too much but now that im in I have the chance to gain experience and move up either in the same company or another hopefully in the future.
