He brought up a great point at 7:30 about knowing some of the device models. I am a recent graduate and did two 6 months co-ops/internship as network engineer. During my time working, I didn't really pay attentions to switches/routers model I worked with. So fast forwarding to few weeks ago, I applied for full time position as network engineer and I had a technical interview. The exact question came up? What are some of the models of devices you have worked with? Guess what I couldn't answer. And. Didn't get the job too....
Believe me...The way you've demonstrated the true work of an Networking Engineer is simple awesome....Its good to see some one sharing true exp one posses. I am currently on hunt over Network job and you class your is a boon with additional info on what i must look into and must be prepared not only in books but also whats up/next in market for better self knowledge. Once again Thank you Jorge for sharing vital info and cheering up the techies in world who are planning to take up Networking as their carrier .
when you explain I feel like I am talking to a friend and your accent totally attract to hear what you are trying to say... thank you ... support you from india..
I graduated Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering in 2002 and passed the board examinations in the same year. However, my job field is far from ECE scope. I worked as product engineer for an automotive company, then as procurement engineer for a construction company. I feel that I have an unfinished business in my career for not having exercised by degree as an electronics or telecommunications engineer. I still hope to get a career as a telecom engineer at my age. I hope it is not too late for me. Thank you for your videos.
@@marcuslong24 If your local CC has a good IT program, then I'd say go for it. My local CC doesn't have any IT courses (unfortunately), just a few computer science classes, so I had to go to a more distant cc for my computer networking training.
I've studied network security in college few years ago and after watching this while I'm doing other units made me get back on track what I remembered, thanks :)
This is absolute GOLD! Great work explaining this! I loved the opening where you explained how a trouble call comes in, help desk vs network engineers! That really set the tone and this who video really resonated with me!
That pretty much sums up my day to day. For a moment I thought that you were not going to talk about L3 Switching and the Nexus. I'm glad you did. One thing that you might want to add though is Network Monitoring. It's a huge thing on the day to day. We use a combination of commercial and free ware for monitoring. Solarwinds is a pretty popular vendor for this. Also, configuration backups and log management are extremely important, specially for troubleshooting.
Thanks for the great content! I m going to study IT systems engineering and want to put the main focus on networks engineering (i have to decide between software and network engineering). Just subbed your channel, i learned much about the topic without even having started with the studies. Your way of presenting is extremely authentic and motivating. Thank you!

Every recruiter that hits me wants cloud only skills...they never ask about router and switching in the physical..which is weird...Where can I learn how to configure virtual routers, switches and security?
One of the best things to do is look at the list of "Course Objectives" for the exam. Read an objective, and explain it out loud like you are telling someone what it is and what it does. If you find yourself with a lack of understanding, study it until you can comfortably explain it. Studying for a test isn't about memorization, but about building a foundation of understanding. Don't memorize that 10 x 10 = 100 but instead learn the process of WHY 10 x 10 = 100, and that is studying. (Hope this helps)
