  • We thought we'd tackle the CLADDING and WINDOW FRAMING in our Campervan. As always, in this video we'll show you how we personally decided to tackle this part of our DIY budget campervan conversion, offering our unique perspective. We'll provide tips and tricks on getting a great finish with no prior experience and give the reasoning behind our decision making. Cladding on the van walls is definitely a (relatively) cheap, cheerful and easy solution for achieving an awesome looking finish!

    So WHO are WE? We’re Scarlett, Craig and Merlin and along with Helsing, form the PILGRIM PODS!
    If you enjoy this video why not check out some of our other content? Delve even deeper into our channel; we thought we’d create a series of vlogs chronicling the conversion of our old panel van HELSING (did you see what we did there?) into a weekend warrioring campervan for ADVENTURING and EXPLORING in the UK.
    Each vlog will cover a stage or smaller element of our campervan build, showing our ideas put into action and highlighting our SUCCESSES and FAILURES along the way. With no previous experience this may make for an interesting journey! Our plan is to convert a cheap van on a small budget without cutting corners and at the end, have a campervan to be proud of. We’re hoping you’d like to join us for this journey and that you find our uploads ENTERTAINING and even, INFORMATIVE!

    Hi Craig...imperfections...what imperfections. Outstanding job mate, seen a lot worse jobs done by so called professionals?? I did my cladding in a similar way, by center screwing. In hindsight (what a wonderful thing that is) I wish I had double screwed nearer the edges as most of mine has "arched" and some has even popped out the channel...very frustrating and difficult to fix, apart from taking it all off and starting again!! I even let it dry for a month before I used it...fingers crossed yours is OK. 🤞regards Mick

      Thanks Tony. It was watching similar videos 5 or 6 years ago that inspired us to make our own camper too. Originally we had our hearts set on a VW T25 but stumbled across a chap who built a camper out of a panel van and we decided that was the way to go for us. I'll up my game soon to get the van finished and the videos out along with it. Unfortunately these past two months we've had things in our life pulling us away from the van and to be honest with Covid we've pretty much written off going anywhere this year. Please let us know if you do get a van, drop us a message here or on Facebook or Instagram. 🙂🍻

      Hi Jo, thanks for choosing to stick around! We don't have a budget as such but the plan is to build our camper as cheaply as possible without cutting corners. Cheap van (£1500) and cheap materials. The only places I feel we could truly have saved some money on is the Maxxfan and 12v compressor fridge but their benefits outweighed the high price tag, at least to us anyway. 🙂

    Comin on.
    I did ldv camper on the cheap when I was 30. Now I'm 53 and gonna do a ducato or relay or boxer are they the right choices. Mercs and vw seem too expensive?
    Any hoo thanks for sharing your experiences it takes me back 20 yrs. Haha

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 роки тому

      Cheers mate. I wish I'd built a campervan 10 years earlier... I like all of those vans. My personal thoughts are the Merc and VW have a better engine but are more prone to rust and are expensive whilst the Sevel vans engines aren't as robust but they suffer less rust issues as they are galvanised. They're also a lot cheaper though Covid prices have hiked up the cost of vans across the board. I remember when looking that a five year old Relay with around 150k in tidy condition was knocking around on eBay for about £5k a couple of years ago but the same vans are now fetching £7-8k... Simple fact though is if you regularly service the Sevel van engines they'll do good miles too but they need a little more TLC than the Merc which are pretty much bulletproof. Likewise, keep on top of the rust and the Merc and VW won't have any issues in that area either. Like everything in life I say go with what you like. The big selling point for me with the Sevel vans is they're wider and you can get a larger bed in transverse like in ours to sleep widthways. If you do a build and share it on social media let us know! 😀🙌

    Why oh why are those windows so expensive? I only paid £2500 for the van so I cant really justify spending over £1200 on a few windows. I'm seriously thinking about making my own using hardwood for frame but I wont use glass I'll use acrylic, so much more secure, I'll let u know if my plan works lol.
    Bye for now
    Jack,

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  2 роки тому

      Good luck with your own windows. Pretty sure ours were less than £500 with all the fitting stuff but ours aren't the more expensive caravan style. That was £500ish for two side opening windows, a rear quarter window on the passenger side and two rear door windows too so can't complain at that. Do appreciate they're not everyone's taste but they do the job.

  • @markandrews70

    Just noticed you fridge, pls watch campervibe YT channel, they regret it being so low, otherwise nice

    • @PilgrimPods
      @PilgrimPods  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the advice! 😀🙌 Yeah, when we saw the girls put that up we pretty much watched it straight away to catch their thoughts. Scarlett is a shorty like Emily so will be crawling around on her hands and knees to get to the back of the fridge! I guess the difference between their van and ours is we have a 5.4m MWB and they have a 6m LWB meaning they have more space for options. Even before watching their video it hadn't escaped us it might be awkward getting things out of the fridge being so low down but it was one of those compromises we had to make. We're hoping to have a pretty shallow kitchenette and if we housed the fridge in it the unit would have to be around an extra 150mm deep which would impact on the living area. If we had a bigger van it would definitely be in a unit and higher up for easy access but after much thought we think we've made the best decision for our own personal requirements. Hope that makes sense, but again thanks for the kind advice! 🙂🍻
