Hoyt was honestly my favourite villain from FC3. It was fascinating to see, on an island full of people going completely mad, that the worst one was perfectly sane and organised. Just evil.

I don’t think I ever really paid enough attention to the “I’m not a solider line” consider how much you could fix by changing it to “I was a soldier” boom. Gives him character, explains why he’s duty driven and skilled, they don’t even need to say for what country he fought for!
I guess they messed up that line and meant “I’m not your soldier” or “I’m not a soldier anymore” because the reason ajay has ability without the tatau from far cry 3 is due to his previous military experience in the 82nd airborne division
Imo, I feel like knowing Ajay's backstory and him seeing the country's condition, he felt compelled to help his mother's homeland. He thought he'd be doing small things and told himself "I'm not a soldier" as reassurance but ending up becoming more involved in the politics than he was supposed to. Basically, a small form of brainwashing I would say (I haven't played this in years so please correct me if I'm wrong)
I remember maxing my wallet in Far Cry 3 and not being able to loot bodies because there was no more room for cash or really anything to spend it on, so having weapons be super pricey and having a hard time making money is honestly a plus in my eyes
It's interesting Longinus mentions Goka Falls in FarCry 4 but even in FarCry 3 there's dialogue linking the games. In Badtown you can find a women rambling about being an arms dealer betrayed by the Jackal (she's easy to spot during the mission where you tail Willis). Also in FC3 when you get to Hoyt's island, the privateers sometimes say the line "At least I ain't on the island with the dinosaurs on it" which references FarCry: Instincts.
@@kestrel1917 Ah OK, I missed that one. I think I remember a woman being abused in that village, but I must have missed the Jackal mention. @@abraxas9340 Was just about to say that you talk to Longinus in 2. I always though he was Leon Gakumba because his mission made you pick between a priest and your friends, and if I recall you can talk to that priest again later in game, and he mentions that the dude survived your attempt. Makes sense too, only way to get him easy is from 500 yards with a weak marksman rifle. But you might be right.
Sabal and Amita aren’t related, supposedly Amita is from northern Kyrat while Sabal is (possibly) from the south, perhaps that explains why they are so torn on the future direction of Kyrat, perhaps the south was more religious/traditionalist than the north, which in general seem to have fewer monuments and more industrial areas
Yeah I don't know why I always thought they were related. Though I am now wondering how dedicated the members of The Golden Path really are if they will happily flip between leaders with wildly different beliefs....
One thing that struck me as kind jarring about FC4's map is this: Where do the people of Kyrat live? Judging from the amount and size of settlements, the whole country can't have many inhabitants. Maybe a population of 1000? FC6 improved on this by having larger towns and a big city, even if those places don't feel “alive” like any GTA town, or even an AC town.
I noticed the same thing, honestly there is loads of critical infrastructure that is just straight up missing, to the point where you wonder how Kyrat is even a functioning nation. There isn’t even a capitol city! There’s no plumbing, glass on any windows, or modern military technology such as planes or tanks.
It really sucks that there was no alternative ending where Ajay becomes ruler of Kyrat and eliminates amita and sabal. It made all you did to "save" Kyrat pretty pointless and even made members of pagans army sympathetical (especially the woman on the radio tower as she was hopless after Pagan leaving). My head cannon is that Ajay became ruler of Kyrat and nuked Montana because Willis and Americas interference in Kyrat. I know it's already hinted that the nukes at montana are from Kyrat but I like to pretend its 100% true
You can get yourself that ending tho... the game has you choose to ice either Sabal or Amita depending which way you went at the temple and then you can finish off Sabal either at the temple after Bhadra's ceremony I guess where she becomes Tarun Matara or finish off Amita I think in Tirtha after the game. I always end both of them let Pagan leave in the chopper and essentially rule Kyrat🫡
I think it's been pretty much confirmed by the ending of the Far Cry 6 Pagan Min DLC "Control" in which he tells Ajay via a radio message/cassette that he has a secret nuclear weapons stash pointed at Montana ("or something " as Pagan puts it)
In modern Far Cry games money is only scares in the beginning. Later your wallet is constanly overflowing. Last time I played Far Cry 4 through I learner that most weapons are not unlocked in your travels but during story progression. Everytime you finish a milestone in the story, a new batch is unlocked to buy. In my opinion Far Cry 4 still has the best weapon roster. Attention sniper fans: Once you beat Yuma, the AS-50 is unlocked.
A super underrated use for the tokens was actually just using them as a free car delivered straight to you. I actually ended up using tokens a lot because I’d just call in a car whenever I was stranded lol.
@@borangedunn No, I'm not sure about the lower tier guns for hire, but atleast for the top upgrade one, it comes with one dude in a pickup, so you just boot him out and call it good.
Right now I'm re-playing my favorite Far Cry 3-4-5 in turn on the steam deck. After switching from 3 to 4, I was surprised at how significant the graphics leap from the ps3 generation to the ps4 was (it didn't stick in memory at all). Throughout the game, it feels like it was made under the most pleasant impression of the place of travel for the setting, I would say the game even feels "courage".
There’s a random house with no marker that has a hole in the backyard with a gold ak I found once.. never found it again but it was in the beginning of the game and I thinkkk across the water
You said no former games referenced any of the others, but there is a package-finding mission in FC3 in which you follow the blinking light on a handheld GPS, super similar to the FC2 unit. Also, Willis talks about how the synapses go wild out in the jungle and cause a person to be more feral and primal... Which is a strong nod to the original intention of the characters in Heart of Darkness (the book on which FC3 is based). ...and then Jason becomes a literary mirror of Kurtz, both in HoD and Apocalypse Now.
@@insanejugheadyou're right, I just didn't clarify what I meant. I meant more like direct mentions or characters referring to anything or anyone from the older games. For instance, as far as I'm aware, no one talks about Jack Carver or the mutants, and no one talks about the jackal or the civil war from 2. The weirdest part of this game is that ending the golden path leaders and taking over is the canon ending and pagan isn’t actually the worst person in far cry 4
6:18 Far cry 4 was my first of the series. I bought it just cause of a friend of mine who liked 3, and wanted a coop partner. I must have near 100 hours beaten the campaign 4 times, with a pseudo NG+ (giving my powerfull gear to a friend, and asking for it back once coop was unlocked). And for the core memory well. Once i was 100%ing watch dogs 1, then another friend invited me to his game, we played for 30 mins then he had to leave. And once I was back into WD my game was corrupted, I had access to open world and collectibles, but no money, gear or cars, couldnt access any main or side missions, so yeah, good times. Back when ubi games only had 1 save slot, prolly cause they got carried away with xbox one and ps4 hardware, and forgot they had to fit that in a disc (2 discs, in the case of the 1st WD) Anyhow, looking foward to your video on Far cry 5, also, please try the map editor or arcade, (200 out of mine 240 hours in that game was on arcade)
@@gabe.o.d.s227 I like your pseudo NG+ tactic! Some of the guns take so much time and effort to unlock that you barely have anything left to do once you get them, so your method lets you play with the big toys for longer!
The "different missions" for picking Sabal/Amita are always the same location with the task required inside that location different. blow up the whatever, save the whatever, go there and save the people, or let them die and then clean up the bad guys because saving them stops you doing whatever thing one of them wants.
I will say, me and my friends had a lot of fun in pvp when this game came out. I remember there being a mode where 1 player was invisible when crouched and armed with a bow and he was hunted by the other players with assault rifles. Hiding up a watch tower and choosing the correct moment to strike was very fun.
I remember playing far cry 3 multiplayer on my ps3 and it was SO MUCH FUN You could create your own tattoos the game modes were exciting the loadout system was cool. The servers were packed with players, and the fact that you could play with your friend splitscreen mode if you had 2 controllers just sold it to me. I had so much fun ❤️
On the "I'm not a soldier" bit, I think back to the Simpsons, where Bart gets sent to the military academy. "Since you attended public school, I'm going to assume that you're already proficient with small arms."
I know I'm late to the party but there is a Far Cry 1 reference in Far Cry 3 so they are connected. On the south island there's some NPC dialogue from Hoyt's men saying "At least I'm not on that dinosaur island"
The issue with most of these games after 2 is the extended gameplay not necessary to story but to leveling up/increasing your survivability which IS necessary. It really is a grind that becomes tedious and makes second playthroughs less than optimal. I was lucky to find a 'mod' which acted as a New Game Plus by having you begin (once you're turned loose) with all upgrades and unlocks. With this I was able to focus on story and enjoy the sights along the way without having to be intimately familiar with each square foot of map. NG+ is one of gaming's greatest answers to long, LONG, grindy, crafting hell holes, and skill unlocks which have escalated beyond reason.
I remember the coop was constantly getting disconnected, and it wasn’t an internet problem I was playing with my brother in the same house on a fiber optic network.
I've been really enjoying these and have been listening to them at work. I appreciate how much work seems to go into them in such a short amount of time because not many content creators can make whole hour vids so quickly with a job and without a team. Or maybe you're just good at talking and you can script an hour long video quickly because you're not a boring twat. Whatever it is, I am enjoying these a lot, even though you're objectively wrong in rating this one so low.
D/loaded FC4 from the PS Store which I subscribe to. One of the multiplicity of inclusive games. Haven’t played for 9 years, did one play through year of release 2014. As a lot of ppl have said, the radio talk show guy Rabi Rani I seem to remember, had great lines & his Easter Egg name & real life events referencing was awesome. Plus the referencing of other games. Played FC5 through twice, also a superb FC game. Never knew that Willis was referenced in 4, did however pick up that Hurk indeed was. Also never made the connection about the nuking of Montana, great to learn these kind of things 10 years on 😊
Far Cry peaked with this entry, imo. Great villain, a beautiful world to explore and all the over the top mindless fun we love Far Cry as a series for.
I recently picked up the game again and managed to platinum it(Online trophies was a pain). One of the most surprising things I enjoyed this time around was the radio. I've played this game three times since it was released, but when I was younger, I didn't pay much attention to the details. The radio in this game is just top-notch. There are so many cool details and cameo mentions, like Scarface and I think Walter White. I also appreciated how even the small side content had cutscenes and voice acting, something Far Cry 3 didn't have. Far Cry 3 is still my favorite in the series, but after platinuming Far Cry 4, I definitely have a newfound appreciation for this game. And let's not forget the biggest crime of all - not being able to romance Amita! Curse you, Ubisoft! 😢
Was there anything wrong with the PC version of FC3? It's the only version I've played (several times on different hardware, so I'm intimately familiar with it) and can't remember any weirdness or other issues. Were the console versions superior in some way?
It's no Farcry 1 but FC4 was definitely a fun entry and felt like it knew it's DNA better than any that came after it. It was a great follow-up to the madness of FC3 and FC2. The games that came afterward are so full of bullsnot and were pretty boring in my opinion.
As the farcry series went on, the gameplay got better, but the story and reason to play got worse. Farcry 3 and 4 is the best Miss the farcry 4 online mode But farcry 4 makes me wanna play farcry 5, but when I play farcry 5, it makes me wanna go back to 3 and 4
@borangedunn 3 and blood dragon had me hooked. And Farcry 4 was a must buy when I heard about it. I think the console versions of Farcry 4 had 5 or 10 keys where you could give to anybody to download and play for free for 2 hours each key. And I never used mines until I told a friend about it last year and my brother who I got into it starting with 4 using the last keys I had, then I shared my account for us to play Farcry 5 now he's into it. And brat farcry 6 before I did. He still has to help me platinum Farcry 3 through co-op story mode (separate from the single-player mode) he never played Farcry 3, so hopefully, he'll enjoy it without the nostalgia goggles
Hey! Love this video! Just played Far Cry 4 again last month thoroughly. I gotta disagree with you on money being scarce (39:20) as you progress through the game. I kept looting boxes and selling the items I found in those boxes (plus takedowns and looting).
You are right in thinking the ending was odd, the original narrative was to have Ajay realize halfway through that Amita and Sabal are as crazy as Pagen and he could choose to side with him and starting recapturing outposts for his side, but this was dropped due to time and budget constraints, that is the reason the game feels odd sometimes, despite having a great gameplay loop, it fails in the story department, because they could not finish it properly. IMHO, there are a lot of games which had amazing things about them, which were left unfinished due to time/money.
Is there an interview or anything that you heard that from? Would love to look into it, it's similar to the original concept of Far Cry 3 having been an abandoned resort that the pirates just took over as a base of operations.
And I just discovered Ubisoft Montreal developed FC3, 4 and 5... I thought their development was more akin to COD with Activision and Treyarch. Anyway, your video got me to buy FC4 the other day. Cheers!
I played it with disdain since back then I felt it was an imitation of the previous game and Vas was way more interesting as a character. I was also wrong. Far cry 4 is so impressive.
The side arm isnt a a down side because the 1 hand grenade laucher exist and if you dont like that the d2 is the strongest shotgun in the game plus the crossbow is the best cclose range stealth gun
*I like FC4, specially the freedom to fly all over the map, like FC5. But it's not like there is always something new...and the main characters suck, I just hate them. It's too easy, too, you can have an almost full skill tree in 2 hours*
I honestly really liked Pagan Min as an antagonist. He was a bad guy in many ways, possibly better replaced by one of the other two. Or not? The hero, or in this case, Sabal or Amita live long enough to become villains, and we're constantly questioning whether Pagan really is that bad. They're all related to us in some way, which I feel is motivation enough for Ajay to do what he does. Kyrat is so out of order that it seems some amount of evil needs to be used order to control it no matter what. Which is actually pretty realistic if you think about it. Not a super complex plot, and Ajay ofc could just f off instead, but definitely deep enough for a Far Cry game.
About the different outcomes of the missions depending on your choices ... couldn't have been bothered to at least look it up on the Internet, couldn't you?
Ajay Ghale was never in the military, and I'm not sure where you got the idea that he was a green beret? If you read Ajay Ghale wiki, you'll see that he was never in the military of any kind...I just like to think he knows how to use weapons and such because it's in his DNA and comes naturally to him because of his parents' background and subconsciously went back knowing that he'll find himself in danger
Back when my dad had got me my first headset. ( a one eared 1$ mic) yes… actually a single dollar but it worked and I met this other kid his name was “underseamooselk” with some numbers just an Xbox generated one. After my stepdad threw my Xbox down the stairs I lost my account and wasn’t able to ever talk to them again we used to play damn near everyday on far cry 4 taking down whole fortresses with just a bow and hunting honey badgers I miss it bro
Loved far cry 4, story in 3 was better, 5 was a mess, and 6 was overstuffed, lazily written, and unsatisfying to complete, but it was a good looking game and fun to play, but repetitive. Good job on the video though, put a little more of personality into it and it’d be a great one. Threw a like and subscribed regardless 👍 keep it up
I understand farcry 3 will always be “better” but 4 to me is so special and the environment and story is more interesting to me personally the helpless endings of the game both choices being bad the vibe of the game genuinely made me feel like I was in a North Korea type government state it felt more realistic
There should be one more plot to play from pagan min side to get the throne of kyrat they have to eradicate all golden path. That plot should be more playful and enjayable. If ubisoft made it in that two way path chose game
That part you could have ended the game. Bro i swear i almost did that without knowing it. I started the game while i was eating. I couldnt use my mouse and keyboard. I stayed there for like 8 minutes then i started moving. I remember pagan told me to wait. But i think i was too excited to play it.
You're not the first person to question me on this, so I must have worded it poorly in the video. Other than that one licensed track when you start attacking Pagan's Palace, I like the music in the game. But sometimes it plays the wrong music at the wrong time, like playing high-tempo action music when I'm sneaking around scouting a base. That's why I kept turning it off.
@@borangedunn I know which mission and music felt off. Some of them are a bit weird in terms of what sounds they use. But like 90% of the music is spot on, complimenting the action and the environment giving a majestic feeling to the vibe of the gameplay. The ambient music especially is masterpieceful. There is a reason this games music got awards.
@@borangedunn by the way the only music in the game that also bothers me is the one in the bridge to the north. After you blow up the gate, the music is just weird and I also turn it off. Everything else I'm fine with.

55:29 ain't no way be said that the music sucked and then proceeded to not show the two best times it was used (A key to the north and when you ride to Pagan's palace)
No I said I liked the music (except for that one track when you start attacking Pagan's Palace), but I did say that the game would keep playing the wrong music for what I was doing, like playing action music when I'm sneaking around and such.
Gotta say the Far Cry series is the only Ubisoft series I still actively buy and play Far Cry 3-Primal where nearly the same but it wasn't to much if the same it was okay and the setting of peimal was really cool Far Cry 2 an 1 are masterpieces like no other the stories of the games were also okay and when the series changed with Far Cry 5 it was still fun to play because the changes in the game design are actually not bad it was still fun even tho the story was a bit weaker And then came Far Cry New Dawn (which was absolute shit I don't want to talk about the game) And now we have Far Cry 6 which is still okay and fun to play gameplay wise but after playing it you won't have the motivation to play it again there is no reason to come back and play it again the story is bad and the gameplay and the things you have to do are still very similiar to Far Cry 5 and that makes it really boring when trying to start a new play through
The reason far cry 1 isn't mentioned is apparently because it was made by the same people that made crysis and was a prototype for crysis. That's why the tone feels so off from all the other games. Also are you going to review the pair of far cry one spinoffs for the xbox Instincts and Evolution?
You're right! The story behind the original Far Cry being made is pretty interesting in itself! I covered a bit of it in my video on that game a few months back, but there's plenty of other bits I missed. And no, I won't be covering the Xbox games, mainly because I don't have the means to play them.
The story of this game is so good, but totally trips at the end. The characterization of Ajay as being ‘thin’ was a total miscalculation. As such, there are many times in the story where I wish he would just say “screw you” to both Amita and Sabal. It makes the ending such a wet fart, and Bhadra’s final fate is a HUGE plot hole. (As a headcannon thing, me and my friends who were playing the game at the same time as me liked to imagine that Ishwari Ghale actually gave Ajay ghurka training as a kid-which actually would fill out some plot deets.) FAR CRY 4 also really gets on board with ‘villain affirmation.’ Sure, Vaas steals the show and the game has some sympathy for him, but it NEVER forgets that he is still a villain. But 4 doesn’t do that for Pagan Min; they really do try to make him like this sympathetic villain, and all you have to do is ‘just hear him out’… Hear him out?!! Motherfucker did blow while taking baths in yak blood while slaughtering Kyrati citizens! This really builds up to a crescendo with FAR CRY 5 where the game bizarrely is %100 on board with Joseph Seed. Infuriating. These men are NOT to be sympathized with footnotes. All a big shame, because Kyrat is by an AMAZING setting. If FAR CRY 5 can get a crappy prequel book, surely FAR CRY 4 can get a novelization. 🤩
Hi, Amita = Lakshmana; if you compare the picture in the shrine with her, you see they have the same mark on the face ;-) So yes, the whole war, everything was pointless, Lakshmana never died.
If you don't kill them, you can find them in the game's world after the campaign.

Blame Willis and their CIA
Yea most of em u just get for getting all the radio towers basically
A super underrated use for the tokens was actually just using them as a free car delivered straight to you. I actually ended up using tokens a lot because I’d just call in a car whenever I was stranded lol.
I clearly wasn't paying attention because I missed that feature completely! Do you get to choose the car or is it just a random one?

Right now I'm re-playing my favorite Far Cry 3-4-5 in turn on the steam deck. After switching from 3 to 4, I was surprised at how significant the graphics leap from the ps3 generation to the ps4 was (it didn't stick in memory at all). Throughout the game, it feels like it was made under the most pleasant impression of the place of travel for the setting, I would say the game even feels "courage".
There’s a random house with no marker that has a hole in the backyard with a gold ak I found once.. never found it again but it was in the beginning of the game and I thinkkk across the water

Glad you uploaded once more!
I'm probably wrong though, I mean I didn't play any of the DLCs and that's where we first meet Hurk, apparently!
@@borangedunn You are so right!
I figured you were meaning that, and I was half drunk and nearly asleep last night when I finally got around to finishing your wonderful video, so I should have refrained until my senses returned.
I can't remember if you had mentioned that Longinus speaks directly about surviving an attempt on his life at Goka Falls. When I first experienced that pine of dialogue, I was floored!
@@insanejughead I'll be honest it's only on this playthrough that I noticed the connection, and that's only because I've recently played FC 2. It's was a nice little detail to discover though!

Lmao facts, he didnt sound so "insane" towards the end
Back when ubi games only had 1 save slot, prolly cause they got carried away with xbox one and ps4 hardware, and forgot they had to fit that in a disc (2 discs, in the case of the 1st WD)
Anyhow, looking foward to your video on Far cry 5, also, please try the map editor or arcade, (200 out of mine 240 hours in that game was on arcade)

If I remember correctly there was a woman in some village in Far Cry 3 that mentioned Jackal and his gun running business
I’m think i remember reading on a game informer magazine that Ajay has military experience or something to that

Was there anything wrong with the PC version of FC3? It's the only version I've played (several times on different hardware, so I'm intimately familiar with it) and can't remember any weirdness or other issues. Were the console versions superior in some way?

Farcry 3 is my favorite. Ive heard fc4 is more similar to 3 than the others, it makes sense it coming after 3. But i never played 4 yet
14:26 I swear I’ve read some official stuff about how Ajay was a vet who fought in Afghanistan so that line was always so weird to me
This was the best farcry by miles.
It's no Farcry 1 but FC4 was definitely a fun entry and felt like it knew it's DNA better than any that came after it. It was a great follow-up to the madness of FC3 and FC2. The games that came afterward are so full of bullsnot and were pretty boring in my opinion.
If similar thing happens to me in real life, I'll definitely just sit, enjoy my food and wait for my captor. Hehe!
You definitely look the eating type no offense tho
As the farcry series went on, the gameplay got better, but the story and reason to play got worse. Farcry 3 and 4 is the best

54:43 Nice shot!
Is it weird that I keep being told that the protagonist of Farcry 1 is the Jackal of Farcry 2
And I just discovered Ubisoft Montreal developed FC3, 4 and 5... I thought their development was more akin to COD with Activision and Treyarch.
Anyway, your video got me to buy FC4 the other day.

You can play fc4 with no HUD and its so good
I honestly really liked Pagan Min as an antagonist.

Loved far cry 4, story in 3 was better, 5 was a mess, and 6 was overstuffed, lazily written, and unsatisfying to complete, but it was a good looking game and fun to play, but repetitive. Good job on the video though, put a little more of personality into it and it’d be a great one. Threw a like and subscribed regardless 👍 keep it up
3s story is half of what 4 was when it comes to lore and character of the location

FarCry3 multiplayer was damn good tho
That part you could have ended the game. Bro i swear i almost did that without knowing it. I started the game while i was eating. I couldnt use my mouse and keyboard. I stayed there for like 8 minutes then i started moving. I remember pagan told me to wait. But i think i was too excited to play it.
55:35 are you crazy?

Gotta say the Far Cry series is the only Ubisoft series I still actively buy and play Far Cry 3-Primal where nearly the same but it wasn't to much if the same it was okay and the setting of peimal was really cool Far Cry 2 an 1 are masterpieces like no other the stories of the games were also okay and when the series changed with Far Cry 5 it was still fun to play because the changes in the game design are actually not bad it was still fun even tho the story was a bit weaker
And then came Far Cry New Dawn (which was absolute shit I don't want to talk about the game)
And now we have Far Cry 6 which is still okay and fun to play gameplay wise but after playing it you won't have the motivation to play it again there is no reason to come back and play it again the story is bad and the gameplay and the things you have to do are still very similiar to Far Cry 5 and that makes it really boring when trying to start a new play through

far cry 4 player discovers there is a civil war after 10 years!
@@borangedunn Completely understandable not to cover the instinct games. And I will go watch your other videos now.
(As a headcannon thing, me and my friends who were playing the game at the same time as me liked to imagine that Ishwari Ghale actually gave Ajay ghurka training as a kid-which actually would fill out some plot deets.)
FAR CRY 4 also really gets on board with ‘villain affirmation.’ Sure, Vaas steals the show and the game has some sympathy for him, but it NEVER forgets that he is still a villain.
