"Red Velvet" a 6 year old keg shod standardbred mare. A freakishly fast singlefooting horse. Own, trained and loved by the Glover Family of No Mans Land Louisiana.
The first gaited horse I ever rode was a one-eyed Standardbred at a summer camp when I was a kid. Other kids didn't want to ride him because they thought his empty eye socket was scary. I didn't mind... and I was in for a treat. Not one speck of trot in that beautiful old soul. Man, how I love a good Standardbred... that mare is something else!
What a wonderful mare. Enjoy every minute with her. She reminds me of the little saddle horse mare I had years ago, who was fast, competitive, and loved to go, until you put a baby on her. She would get that same soft look in her eyes, and walk like she had precious china on her back. What a gift.
@@onlytheartofliving6936 Said by the "expert" who doesn't know the difference between a canter and a rack... Come back when you learn a little more than what you can read in a book.
My brother and I worked at a good riding stable in our teen years. It just happened to have a 17 hand singlefooting paint, and I was the one who spent most of my 'assignments' on that horse on our bridle paths through the Catskill Mountain trails. Only problem I can remember was he'd easily pass the cantering horses but at times was difficult to stop. I'm sure that was the reason he was sold to a riding stable. He wasn't a picture of loveliness but was an absolute pleasure to ride! We probably spent 4 or 5 hours a day on the trails.
I have fond memories of my first time riding a fast single footer. I got down and my right knee wasn't a study in jello! Could still walk without the wobble I had been getting!
@@43SunSon it's a breed thing, mostly. Your Racking Horses, Tennessee Walkers, Rocky Mountains, Foxtrotters, etc. They all have a 4 beat gait. It's pretty much genetics.
This video bought tears to my eyes just from being amazed by your mare, in my youth the early 80s i helped train Tennessee Walkers, that had good things and bad , im in South Western Virginia,to me it's a good thing to see younger melinated men that have horses of that QUALITY , keep up the good work!!!!
WOW! Sure wish I could watch them in person instead of watching a video. Would like to plan a trip to see some events. What's the best time(s) of year and where? Thanks in advance for answering my questions. 😁
I have watched this video many many times and this little mare never ceases to amaze me every time!!! She's BADASS!!! And like I said before YOU HAVE A GIFT with horses!!! Keep on racking!!!
Wow, wow, wow..... grew up around single footers in the fifties and sixties.... 5 black farms on a 4 mile long gravel road in sw mississippi... every farm had a at least one horse and mule... all riding horses were single footers..... was a way of life...
These horses are amazing. I once rode a Tennessee and found myself on far end of field in no time. And no bounce at all. I am so used to western gaits it was like riding air.
Literally the worst s*** I've seen all day, he is way over the 20% that you should be of your horses weight to be riding them. Looks so painful, it's just sad.
If their training is anything like charro dancing horses I feel incredibly sorry for these horses too. I mean… I already feel sorry for them with their giant pain bits, stressed body positions and movements, and clear anxiousness.
@@Sewiee These horses can "gait" yes, but they are literally trained NOT to canter/gallop. And the biomechanics of trotting super fast like this is incredibly damaging. Most all "gaited" horses end up having back or hock issues, arthritis, or lose their damn minds. Even non gaited horses can have these problems. Optimal biomechanics for horses is all the same, whether they can "gait" or not. These horses are not comfortable and they are terrified, backs hollow, heads in the air. End of story. Not good for the horse.
@@tropicaoptica If the horse wasn't comfortable then it would've made that clear and likely try to buck or rear their rider off. I've seen a bunch of videos of this horse and it's rider and it hasn't shown discomfort in a single video.
@@Sewiee you are obviously not experienced with or understand horses. Horses are forced into submission all the time. They know if they act up there will be consequences. Also, horses can be incredibly tolerant. Many put up with pain and discomfort their whole lives. You are just ignorant. It’s okay you just don’t know the realities. These are not happy horses.
@@tropicaoptica One thing surprises me, mystifies me about these gaited horse videos. I've watched this and other channels. I never see any affection shown by the riders to their horses, like a pat, rub or praise. Yet the horses are all absolutely gorgeous and healthy looking.
Not true. This breed of horse has a natural gait. I don’t see anything on her legs. I might be wrong but I think this is a standardbred pacing. I saw a comment and the owner stated the horse was bred to do this and she is not abused
On Icelan this is called flying pass.....This would have been nice to watch If the rider stopped jerking and pulling horses mouth. They have competitions with Icelandic horses in the different paces. He is abusing the horse, cantering on concrete is so damaging for the horses joints! The tack doesn't fit right and the bit is cruel! THIS IS ABUSE!!!
