This movie is about how a horse saved a boy and the incredible relationship they built. If you have not had the incredible experience of trusting a horse and of them trusting you, well, you will not understand. This boy owed the horse his life and vice versa. Such a beautiful story about the bond between a person and a horse.

@@pearlleeooo9955….books and movies are always different to each other , the book is your imagination of the story , the movie shows the story in front of you that’s the difference .
I’ll be 50 this year and this is still my favorite film of all time. Last I heard, Kelly Reno was living in Pueblo, Colorado. Wherever he is, I hope he knows just how much his portrayal means to so many people.
I read the book by Walter Farley in 1972 and fizzed so excitedly when the movie came out. Have now watched it at least 5 times and still cry every single time. The beauty, love and the force of nature of The Black, totally melt me x
This scene, this movie, moved me as a kid. I can't help but feel the same when i watch it again 40 years later. The emotional building of this film all expressed without words here.. just hoofbeats, breathing and distant cheers.
I always tear up during this scene. When Alec and Black are so in sync with each other you forget they'd are on the race track with many spectators yelling in the background. Then the music plays and all the emotions felt throughout the movie are brought up all at once and I tear up but also smile at how powerful the bond of a human and animal can be. Alec saved Black and black saved and even healed Alec. ♥️🐎🐎
This was the best movie of all time! And this race scene is beyond amazing! The photography! The sound! The love between a boy and an Arabian horse! Nothing compares to this.
And from what I understand, every modern breed of horse has arabian blood in them. The Arabian horse, I like the larger boned Polish breed mostly, are a fantastic breed of horse! You're right too... this movie on the big screen is phenomenal! Secretariat and Seabiscuit are 2 others worth noting... as racing achievements at the least... imho amongst millions...lol But, imho there IS a great comparison of LOVE to this... absolutely wonderful, COMPLETE and PURE LOVE... LIFE SAVING INDEED.
Two inspirations. First, this beautiful film. Second the 1973 Belmont where Secretariat comes down from another world. Both bring tears of joy to a horse lover’s eyes.
The books were my favourite to read. The Black was my hero. His son too but the black set loose all my dreams as a child of riding and fueled my love of horses!! It still does and I am 72 now!! Well done!!
I read that book about 8 years ago, then I gave the book to a woman who owned horses and loved them. I never knew it had been made into a movie. Glad to see this scene. Thanks for posting it.
I remember running my grandparents retired race horses along the hard packed, sandy beaches when I was a child. Nothing feels or sounds like a race horse when she opens up. Pure power! This movie is takes me back to my childhood when worries were few and the world was new
The moment when Garr as the mother has the "thank you" moment with the horse is one of the most profound, quiet and heartbreaking scenes in any film. I wish they would re release this for a new generation.
As a kid in 1972 and big horse lover, I read the book by Walter Farley in 1972 and fizzed so excitedly when the movie came out. Have now watched it at least 5 times and still cry every single time. The beauty, love and the force of nature of The Black, totally melt me x
Everything about this movie is just magnificent. The choreography, cinematography and soundtrack. It’s all about emotion and imagination. You can feel yourself there and feel the power and freedom when he’s riding Black.
One of the great editing scenes that helped get an Academy Award nomination for Best Editing. The photography during the race is exceptional, second to none!
I had the privilege of seeing this beautiful animal at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA in 1985 and my god he’s been the most beautiful horse I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen Affirmed, Spectacular Bid, Sunday Silence, John Henry, Slew O Gold, California Chrome, American Pharaoh and even Justify.
i have never been on a horse in my entire life ( i am now almost 50) i saw this movie as a kid, and many times since. ive read the book. this race scene, especially where The Black (Shitan) comes roaring up from behind, much like Secretariat did, still fills me with emotion, and i still always get teary eyed when he wins and how Alec's mother and Henry just erupt screaming "HE WON! HE WON!"...... all that strength and power..... amazing
I watch this scene whenever I want a spiritual lift. It brings me to tears of joy every time. Everything about it is magnificent -- the sounds of the hooves on the ground, the leather, the panting, the jockeys seemingly airborne on the backs of the horses, and the fact that the black stallion says: "Don't stop me! I am GOING FOR IT! And I WILL WIN!" And then the kid bends into him: "WE WILL WIN!" The incredible inter-species communication between them is so eloquently displayed here. I am sure every jockey and horseperson lives for these moments of perfect union.
Me too, I feel and think exactly the same way !!! I watch this scene , just this scene, and it brings me to tears , in a good way ,of course. I think back when I was a kid and all the challenges I went through. But I WILL WIN !!
What I love so much about this film is how it felt that it did not NEED words. Much of Alex's time on the island, this race... no words - they simply are not needed.
I once read that Coppola just told Alex to go out and start playing with the horse on the island. A lot of impromptu and undirected interaction was filmed.
I've watched the movie a number of times with my daughters (who are now 30 & 32) and it was just so inspiring. My oldest loves horses, but we could only afford the Breyers miniatures:) My sister had a Appaloosa that was a retired race horse and one day she said for me to take her out. I rode her bare back and after a few hundred yards of trotting, I gave her the click click sound and said "lets go"...fark, she shot off like a rocket. I hung on for dear life and have to say that when a horse if running full out, it's butter smooth.God what a ride with eyes watering from the speed and I have a death grip on her mane. Galloped her back (we went about a mile) and I could barely walk since my legs were shaking after that ride. I love my motorcycles, but a fast horse at full speed is scary exciting.
i remember watching this as a kid, I was an undiagnosed HF autistic, didn't really understand alot of the dialogue in the film, I was young just a tiny gaffer the first time i saw this, but for the lion's share of it, I didn't need to understand the words, the horse, the kid, the body language, the music, it did all the talking, looking back at it through memory it somehow feels like remembering a fever dream, only there's no words, just sound, music, and a story i could understand without a word needing to be spoken.
The power of this racing scene is magical and a fitting end to a wonderful movie. As a teenager I had a black Arabian stallion bred from Polish racing Arabian stock. So I know thrill when he leveled out at full speed. Coppola's film inspires me every time I see it. And I am amazed at the young actor, both for his riding ability and sensitive acting.

I remember seeing this as a child. I saw it last year on a local channel. I found myself filled with emotions, especially this ending scene. You can see after he throws his helmet and goggles off, the boy and his horse get in sync. It's almost like a train and you can hear how in tune they are. My eyes were filled with emotion and my heart was pounding. Truly a magnificent scene in cinematography history. No words or music. Just pure emotion and their reflecting on being with one another on that island. Pure joy!

This is such a beautiful film; this is such an emotionally powerful film, for kids (whether they love horses or not), and for parents. There is barely any dialogue in this film except for a few key scenes, which is remarkable to think about as most kids' films, even in the early 80s when this film came out, are filled to the brim with noises, loud dialogue, and explosions. This film is a work of poetry, and it still stands up beautifully after 35+ years. The kid actor (now a man who owns a trucking company) is also an incredible rider for his age. He did ALL of the riding in this film, except for some brief shots using a stunt double in the final race (obvious as you can't see Alex's face and the double is slightly bigger). But Alek did most of it -- including the final race. Amazing.
The best horse movie a horse-crazy little girl coulda ever asked for! I must have watched this movie a million times when I was little! It's the whole reason I started riding English!
Only American Zoetrope could create such intimate beauty. The power and speed, the connection between horse and human. Turning the sheer spectacle of a match race into a poignant and private moment. The crowd silenced in the moment, with only the sound of hoof beat and panting. The POV showing the come from behind miracle. Bringing the ethereal music in only at the end to connect us with the island that brings the story full circle. No other film about any horse - even Secretariat and Seabiscuit - can match it. What grace and majesty.
@@charlessomerset9754 Horses. Cass Ole, a champion Arabian stallion, was featured in most of the movie's scenes, with Fae Jur, another black Arabian stallion, being his main double.
Most movies based off of books are really bad or can't compare to the book, but this entire movie works so well with the book. They changed some things and added others, but the movie is really amazing and this scene makes me cry every time I see it!
Extremely moving and powerful scene; it brings tears and chills every time I watch it. The first time I saw it is when it came out in The PLITT movie theater in Century City. The theater is no longer there, but it was the perfect venue to see a movie of this caliber. Because of its breathtaking beauty, I consider it an art film.
I agree. This is my all time favorite movie. No other horse movie compares. The music, cinematography is second to none. The love between the horse and boy is magical. I always wanted to be him in the movie. Now as an adult I am blessed with many magical horses that are all so special to me. This movie was an inspiration to me. I wish they made more movie of this quality and caliber as well. :)
I saw this movie for the first time when I was like 7-9 yrs old, when I lived in Mexico. I would rent the VHS often and watch it many times. As I would watch, I would sit on the arm rest of the couch and pretend I was riding the horse. I'm 43 yrs old now and when I watch it, i sit on the edge of the couch and pretend I'm 8yrs old again 😭😭😭
The boy Kelly Reno signed books and autographs at my grand opening at my shop...My partner was good friends of his and his parents..We got to visit their ranch..What a lovely gracious family
When Walter Farley wrote the fictional book "The Black Stallion" in 1941, he probably never imagined that 32 years later, Secretariat, a real horse, would win a race almost exactly like The Black in his book (apart from the movie embellishments like the accident, the blood etc)! Secretariat's Preakness gives me similar goosebumps as when I'm watching this race! It was Secretariat, Ron Turcotte and The Black Stallion that made me want to be a jockey!💖
This film and 1994's Black Beauty were my all time favorite movies growing up. I even had the entire Black Stallion and Island Stallion books by Walter Farley. He along with Anna Sewell were great authors who were for horse lovers of all ages.
I'm not a horse person but this was probably one of the all time great scenes. The sound of that horse processing massive amounts of oxygen gave you the feeling that it was an incredible machine along with great camera work
Still getting goosebumps every time I watch it. This one and the sequel were my all time favorites to watch in the 1980s and 1990s. There are so many emotions attached... no words to describe. So beautiful...
The RACE is not for the swift nor is the battle for the strong, but for those who endures to the end. The strength in the horse and the knowledge and will power in man, accurately combined wins the great race. Magnificent. Great movie.
favorite scene of the entire movie; definitely displayed the bond between Alec and Shetan (The Black) and coming from behind to win it all due to the bond and faith in each other; this movie is tied for my all time favorite horse movie alongside The Rogue Stallion, a movie that also displays a tight bond that develops between a wild horse and a child (though a teenager in The Rogue Stallion)
Man isn't that something. I do the same thing. Very majestic. The cameras capture something I believe only God himself sees when they sre wild. Very special
I‘m 38 years old. I watched this movie multiple times since I was a little girl. It touched me so deeply, that this and some kind of fate led me to my dream horse that looks like Cass Ole. My babies first CTG sounds today made me remember the race track scene.
seen this movie in the theater I was 10 when it was released......loved it then, love it today......this clip brought tears to my eyes now I'm gonna have to watch it this weekend
My (ex) husband was a HUGE tweaker rock and rolling dude. Indignant about getting dragged off to a goody-goody G rated movie. He was moved to tears.......
One of the most BEAUTIFULLY choreographed horse race I've ever seen since seabisquit as an equine movie! Powerful and graceful is a horse. The grace and beauty of a deer and power and pull like a sports car :D I've been on a mount that galloped out of the blue! They are strong as hell and YES the word is that they PULL!! I understood now why they dub care strength as to "horse power"
Wild African Signature if you ever get the chance, please watch Secretariat. It's a beautiful made movie about the most famous race horse in history. He won the triple crown in 1973 and to this day a lot of his records haven't been beat. Including the biggest lead a no win in history. He win the Preakness, I think it was, by 32 lengths.
My favorite moment is the dreamlike, floating, camera work when the two become one at the top of the stretch and there is a background sound like subtle organ pipes at the beginning of "The Last Waltz". "Church" indeed.
Read all The Black Stallion books as a kid (and older). Each had a breathtaking race sequence and this movie did not disappoint. Thank you and thank you Walter Farley!
The movie in my head is always the best. Reading all the Farley books all summer long. The movie makes my heart race and gives the chills almost as much as the book. I have my very own "Black" now; best therapy there is in a madding world. Whew what a rush.
The mainstream? You mean modern, younger culture? They don't even know that 80% of the movies they see today are remakes of older films, better made films. Youth culture today is actually more ignorant of the recent past then youth culture before the age of the Internet.
+Aladdin Warlord And you are a jerk. Do you think that is only us , girls , that cry? I can tell you I never damn cry when something painful (like falling or getting a really bad bruise) and my dad does! Man can cry LIKE woman. Man are NOT different than woman.
I actually kinda wanna be a jockey when I'm older. Is that a weird hope?also,IM A GIRL!!!A girl jockey, how crazy is that?!It actually sounds crazy and not crazy.I love horses SO much!!!
a childhood fave that has been kept with my through adulthood it's because of this movie that i began riding and found an unbridled love for horses i love you Black and thank you so much for the life you have inspired me to have
Who else was having jitters and sitting at the edge of their seats watching The Black run, cause I can tell you this, I have sure as hell sat at the edge of my seat and had jitters racing through me.
That moment where he decides to let go of the hat... To me it represent going back to that childhood innocence. That's why it is so touching to adults all those years later. It speaks to the child in our hearts. At the end, everything blurs and he goes back to that beach where he was free of everything around him.
Ill be 33 this year, this will forever be my movie with my 7yr old son he loves horses, sold our family horse 2yrs ago ive had since i was 16yrs old,hes still alive and pushing 30yrs old❤
Interesting Fact: The actor who placed Alec, Kelly Reno, did all the riding (including this race and all the island scenes) himself. He wasn't selected for the role because he had acting experience - he was chosen because he had excellent riding skills. He also turned out to be a fantastic young actor.

The horse the boy rode in that race was a Bar Money bred Quarter Horse. They probably used a quarter horse as they are not as high strung and excitable as thoroughbreds. What is really cool, is that I have some paint horses that have Bar Money breeding a ways back.

Saw the movie and bought an Arabian. Best horse I ever bought. Kind, smart and willing to learn. Rip MY LOVE.
cheryl campbell that makes me sad, Cheryl.
4:39 I swear there is something so visually and emotionally perfect watching a horse go all-out like this.
The best horse movie a horse-crazy little girl coulda ever asked for! I must have watched this movie a million times when I was little! It's the whole reason I started riding English!
I never noticed before that they used a different horse for the race than in the rest of the film. Arabian turned thoroughbred.
Келли Рено классный 👍
Of cource they did
Somewhile The runner IS Brown.
The horse used in the movie was Cass Ole! He was a Spanish bred Arabian. (His white stockings were covered with black for the movie.)
Arabic horse duh
@@Sashikkk678 Arabic for the island scenes and sheer beauty, but American Thoroughbred for the racing.
Yes Eliana
It makes me cry, too
Very well put

Have you seen "into the west" about two small boys and a magical Horse, it's good but not as good...
Щ
I saw this movie for the first time when I was like 7-9 yrs old, when I lived in Mexico. I would rent the VHS often and watch it many times. As I would watch, I would sit on the arm rest of the couch and pretend I was riding the horse. I'm 43 yrs old now and when I watch it, i sit on the edge of the couch and pretend I'm 8yrs old again 😭😭😭
My experience exactly…except, I’m on the other side of planet.

Even though I have watched this film at least a dozen times and know how it ends, I revel in it and feel every last second in my soul. Masterpiece.
Lies again? Dallas Bull S**t
I can’t agree more.
Yes and also the cinematography is the best I’ve ever seen

The boy Kelly Reno signed books and autographs at my grand opening at my shop...My partner was good friends of his and his parents..We got to visit their ranch..What a lovely gracious family
When Walter Farley wrote the fictional book "The Black Stallion" in 1941, he probably never imagined that 32 years later, Secretariat, a real horse, would win a race almost exactly like The Black in his book (apart from the movie embellishments like the accident, the blood etc)! Secretariat's Preakness gives me similar goosebumps as when I'm watching this race! It was Secretariat, Ron Turcotte and The Black Stallion that made me want to be a jockey!💖
the black stallion is one of those movies that are unforgettable. it stirs something in the soul.
My all time favorite film. The cinematography, the actors, the horses, just everything about it. It's not just a classic, it's legendary.
Title?
@@katurapaulus9217 The Black Stallion (1979)
This film and 1994's Black Beauty were my all time favorite movies growing up. I even had the entire Black Stallion and Island Stallion books by Walter Farley. He along with Anna Sewell were great authors who were for horse lovers of all ages.
My favorite is The Black Stallion Legend.
This scene to me is how one would feel riding Secretariat, the greatest horse, ever.Forever in our hearts Big Red
The RACE is not for the swift nor is the battle for the strong, but for those who endures to the end. The strength in the horse and the knowledge and will power in man, accurately combined wins the great race. Magnificent. Great movie.
So true!!! And well said.

Alec: Stop! Stop!
The Black: Fuck that. I'm gonna run -- that's what I do!
lol
the black was pissed.
Rick Snyder
The Black will brook no insolence from a lesser horse.

OneEyedJack1970 эпэ фр
favorite scene of the entire movie; definitely displayed the bond between Alec and Shetan (The Black) and coming from behind to win it all due to the bond and faith in each other; this movie is tied for my all time favorite horse movie alongside The Rogue Stallion, a movie that also displays a tight bond that develops between a wild horse and a child (though a teenager in The Rogue Stallion)
What is it about watching a beautiful horse run it's heart out like a precision machine that makes me bawl like a baby?
Man isn't that something. I do the same thing. Very majestic. The cameras capture something I believe only God himself sees when they sre wild. Very special
Same here!
Totally! Its just amazing!
I‘m 38 years old. I watched this movie multiple times since I was a little girl. It touched me so deeply, that this and some kind of fate led me to my dream horse that looks like Cass Ole. My babies first CTG sounds today made me remember the race track scene.
This isn't actually real he diffidently isn't the fastest horse
It will and still has been secretariat
He isn't actually that fast
Just goes to show, you dont need a whip to make your horse run faster, just trust and friendship
seen this movie in the theater I was 10 when it was released......loved it then, love it today......this clip brought tears to my eyes now I'm gonna have to watch it this weekend
Dawn Quinn same
I'm 42 and the same!!! This is a great movie for boys and men to get over whelmed to!!!
My (ex) husband was a HUGE tweaker rock and rolling dude. Indignant about getting dragged off to a goody-goody G rated movie. He was moved to tears.......

the cadence of the horse's breathing and steps, indicative of his strength and character, simply amazing.....
This amazing young riders natural horsemanship is unmatched for his age. Magical and breathtaking to behold.
My favourite film of all time. So beautiful. Disgraceful that the scammers in the previous comments are trying to take advantage of viewers.

👍
Wild African Signature its Because you never see secretariat
Hello friends you like horse racing
Wild African Signature if you ever get the chance, please watch Secretariat. It's a beautiful made movie about the most famous race horse in history. He won the triple crown in 1973 and to this day a lot of his records haven't been beat. Including the biggest lead a no win in history. He win the Preakness, I think it was, by 32 lengths.
My favorite moment is the dreamlike, floating, camera work when the two become one at the top of the stretch and there is a background sound like subtle organ pipes at the beginning of "The Last Waltz". "Church" indeed.
I found it really interesting how the scene used no music other than that. There wasn't the typical "emotional" score to boost the sense of triumph.

Read all The Black Stallion books as a kid (and older). Each had a breathtaking race sequence and this movie did not disappoint. Thank you and thank you Walter Farley!
Possibly the most beautifully photographed movie. Especially the island scenes.

The movie in my head is always the best. Reading all the Farley books all summer long. The movie makes my heart race and gives the chills almost as much as the book.
I have my very own "Black" now; best therapy there is in a madding world. Whew what a rush.
Lucky you!
Is he an Arabian?
Longest racetrack ever, lol. I still love the hell out of this scene!
This is one of those films that you will never hear the Main Stream talk about or praise but everyone knows it and loves it.
Isaac White it was quite popular when it came out. One of the highest grossing “G” rated movies of all time.
It was okay. I liked the book way better.

The mainstream? You mean modern, younger culture? They don't even know that 80% of the movies they see today are remakes of older films, better made films. Youth culture today is actually more ignorant of the recent past then youth culture before the age of the Internet.
its pretty mainstream
I swear to God, I cry every time watch this. Its so beautiful
Yes me too. And brings back all the memories of my horses.
Such an amazing rider for a young man ,the island bits were my favourite
I don't know how often I watched this movie but it is so wonderful and I always have tears in my eyes while watching it ♡

The greatest movie ever. Since 1979, I have probably watched it 50 times

i love you Black

Horses are the greatest.
Francis Ford Coppola makes beautiful movies/Films. This Film captures you in a way that no other Film does. Bravo!
Beautiful scene and good movie. The horse was trucking on the track, after he got focused, he really was pushing himself to the finish line. Amazing
Who else was having jitters and sitting at the edge of their seats watching The Black run, cause I can tell you this, I have sure as hell sat at the edge of my seat and had jitters racing through me.
The flying change on the beach was always my favourite part of this scene.
I couldn't possibly tell you how many times I watched this movie as a kid, and I never once noticed that!
The announcer’s emphatic and genuinely thrilled call at the end bejewels this scene impeccably.
Another interesting fact: Kelly Reno accepted the role of Alec because he wanted to learn how to swim.

THANK YOU❤
I know how you feel. There is nothing that beat the friendship a person can have with a horse. I lost my horse in 1988 and still miss my horse everyday.
is it necessary to yell??
After watching this film, I relieved that a horse is now my new favorite animal
The horse the boy rode in that race was a Bar Money bred Quarter Horse. They probably used a quarter horse as they are not as high strung and excitable as thoroughbreds. What is really cool, is that I have some paint horses that have Bar Money breeding a ways back.
I am 40 years old, and ive whatched this movied for the last 35....dont ask how many time it was they cant be counted...
After all these years It is still my favorite movie and book.
This race scene was filmed at Fort Erie Racetrack - when I found that out I was pretty happy as I now work there!
I love that beautiful black stallion he is hurt and still wins!!!🐴🐴

The horse running it's heart out, injured and a mile away to win, absolutely brilliant xx
Impossible in real life.
As my uncle as a jockey said get a handful of mane before gates open, keep your legs pointed front with your horse
This still brings tears to my eyes. What a beautiful movie.
